JPG clarity

JPG clarity seems to better when viewing the graphic from within the Email application than when viewing it using the Photos application!
Background:
I sent a JPG file to my email.  I was viewing it (zooming in, etc.) and it looked great.  From the email viewer, I copied this file to my photos.  I then viewed the file from Photos (downloads) and it looked terrible.  I thought that maybe what was saved was not the same as the original (compression, etc.).  So, I used the Photos application to email the "bad" photo again.  Using the email viewer, this photo looked terrific.
Any ideas?

You need to wait until the image has loaded before you can try to resize it in any way, though you could scale the holder ahead of time if you know the dimensions you will be working with and are consistent with them.

  • Using large loaded jpg to heighten clarity/crispness?

    Hi There,
    I have a gallery on my flash site.  The way I'm working this is as follows:
    layer 1 that runs through all frames:  var loader1:Loader = new Loader();
    when a button is clicked, the playhead goes to a certain frame and does this:
    loader1.unloadAndStop();
    holder2.addChild(loader1);
    loader1.x = 0;
    loader1.y = 0;
    loader1.alpha = 0;
    loader1.load(new URLRequest("damoimages/med.jpg"));
    As a side note, I am also using Greensock's liquid stage to scale this holder up to a certain set size.
    Now I've noticed that when I blow up the screen, my loaded jpg loses some of its crispness, which is to be expected.  I've also noticed this is remedied if I import a larger image than I need I get a nice crisp image.  For example, I have been loading in an image that is 960 x 640 into my 'holder' which is 960 x 640.  But when I load a larger image (1200 x 800 or larger) say, the image is nice and crisp.  Only problem is it fills up the whole screen until I begin to resize my browser, then it snaps into place and is scaled correctly by staying crisp.  Any way to tell this loaded image to not come in at it's big size, but to scale down appropriately w/o me scaling down my browser window?
    Phew!
    Thanks, as always.

  • Clarity into IMovie, quicktime, FCP

    Hi there:
    I've just been handed a PPT which I moved to Keynote. My task is to take the material, add a scripted voice and background music. So I thought the route would be to export the slides to Imovie or FCP. When I exported to Imovie, the text was not as clear as in Keynote.
    So to make this presentation with two sound sources, should I make a single sound track of the right length for the sldes (which means I'll need to determine each slide length toward the total project) and stay inside Keynote, or is there a way to export with more clarity (I tried the jpg,tiff and pdf, and they all had the quality loss). Or should I find some other method?
    Also, should I use IDVD to put the final product on DVD or Toast Titanium? I do not want all the themes, etc.: just the video.
    Thanks.
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1.5 mhz

    Don't need anything that complicated! To add music to
    the entire slideshow(instead of seperatly in each
    slide) just go to -->Inspector --> Document (the
    first on the left) chose Document (not Spotlight). In
    the bottom you have an Audio field. You can either
    add a song file by dragging and dropping or selecting
    it in you iTunes. You can make a song loop, only
    once, or nothing.
    I had the exact problem (music problem) but it's
    there in front of our noses...
    The thing is, when you export your keynote file to
    QuickTime, 2 files will be created: the movie, and
    the soundtrack. If you want to simplify the whole
    thing use just the movie one and add music manually
    (you must have QuickTime Pro for that) by opening the
    song file in QuickTime, selecting in the timeline
    what part of the song you want to copy, then copy,
    and paste in on the movie, placing it in the
    timeline.
    Hope that was helpfull
    Hugs and kisses
    CV
    Hey:
    thanks for the note. Soundwise, however, I still have a problem in Keynote because I need to add 2 audio tracks: one for the music and one for the narration. Keynote offers me one track.
    any thoughts?
    thanks

  • Problems with Logo exported into a jpg not viewable by Dreamweaver

    I have created several logos in CS4 Illustrator and exported them to into a jpg.  However, when I am creating my website using CS4 Dreamweaver and try and place the image, it comes up as a blank file logo.  I can load other jpgs not created by me so must be something to do with the file.
    Second question, I need to reduce the size of the logo so it may fit into a software package for billing purposes.  The size must be 325(w) x 110(h), again it won't read the jpg, but it will read a bmp.  However, the bmp is so grainy it is not worth putting on the bill it looks so bad.  How do I shrink the image down and still maintain the clarity?
    Thank you.

    Scott,
    Thank you for the reply.  Is your suggestion for the Dreamweaver fix or the resolution problem?
    Regards,
    John
    My suggestions are related to the actual file name.. regardless of what app you are using or how the image was exported.
    It's entirely possible that a file named "This_is_My_Really_Really_Long_Superfluous_File_Name_.jpg" is the problem. When "My_File.jpg" will work just fine.
    Same holds true for "This is my file.jpg" compared to "Thisismyfile.jpg" (no spaces).
    Just rename the files and try again in Dreamweaver.

  • Help suggestions RAW JPG (noise / sharpness)

    Hi,
    Does anyone have a better suggestion for this picture to convert from RAW to JPG, particularly noise and sharpness.
    I have put the standard JPG image (from the camera) + RAW file + XMP file at the following website WETRANSFER.COM
    To download these files (12 MB) type: http://wtrns.fr/ZSrKp1UoL7P8Vw
    (files available until 10 January 2013)
    P1080056.JPG       =small JPG image from camera
    P1080056.RAW     =Original RAW file
    P1080056.XMP     =settings ACR (Noise + Sharpness + Main tabs used)
    P1080056RAWJPG=image after conversion to JPG (adobe PS)
    I use PS CS6 + ACR 7.0

    thanks you for the example YAMMER P.
    questions:
    Did you use the alt key for the BLACKS and WHITES in the main panel to see the limits for over- and underexposure?
    How do you determine the amount CALRITY in the main panel.
    How do you determine the amount DETAIL an MASKING in sharpness panel
    How do you determine the amount LUMINANCE DETAIL in NOISE panel
    Do you have any order for processing an image
    For me...I think I know not enough of sliders like: CLARITY,  DETAIL,  MASKING,  LUMINANCE DETAIL,  LUMINANCE CONTRAST  ...... especially when these are used together
    maybe there are more suggestions?

  • RAW impages lose color, clarity, detail when importing.........

    I use Canon's Professional Digital Software [OEM] to process RAW images from my 21 MP camera. Incredible color, sharpness and Clarity. Color is shot in sRGB and as part of processing, I sharpen, adjust color temperature, set exposure, etc.
    When I import into LightRoom 2.7, the photos load beautifully, then one by one the photo is rendered losing color, clarity, etc. ....... Yes I saved all RAW image adjustments to the original RAW file as part of my processing using Canon's software to my hard drive with a unique folder name, then import from that folder. I like LightRoom as I can edit muliple images rather than one by one in PhotoShop.
    I've checked all my settings, etc. so as to understand what is going on. Lightroom is incredible and I'm anxious to see 3.0. So, has anyone else experienced this? I can't help thinking that LightRoom has become corrupted or ?????
    Isn't the original *.jpg or RAW image supposed to import exactly as read? Any comments?

    Question Answered: YES and I understand the "How" this happens. Guess I'll have to import only HiResolution JPG files from this point forward.

    Why did Lightroom 'ruin' my photo?
    « on: March 16, 2008, 01:27:34 PM »
    Updated August 12, 2008 to include references to DNG Profile Editor and Camera Matching profiles.
    Updated December 23, 2008 to note Lr 2.2 automatically installs the Camera Matching profiles.
    By far the most common question asked on this Forum is: "I took a beautiful picture! It was perfectly saturated and color balanced, and I loved it. When I imported the RAW file into Lightroom, I saw my beautiful picture for 5 seconds, and then Lightroom ruined it, and turned it into a bland muddy mess. Why?" The picture you see in LR is exactly the picture your camera sensor recorded. It's likely that you are used to seeing the preview on the camera display. That preview is not your RAW file, but a JPG which has been processed by the electronics inside your camera. Or, you may be using your camera manufacturer's proprietary RAW conversion software. That software has a post-processing advantage in that it can utilize  proprietary 'secret' information embedded in RAW files, which is undocumented and unavailable to third party programs such as LR and ACR. Additionally, most third party viewer/browser applications show you the embedded JPG preview rather than the actual RAW file contents. In fact, LR itself shows you that preview for a few seconds at first, until it has time to render a preview in accordance with your current develop settings. When you import your RAW file, none of that proprietary in-camera processing is applied by Lightroom. To a certain extent, you have to do it yourself. That is the purpose of Develop Presets. It takes some getting used to, and some practice, and some homework to achieve consistently good results. The amazing flexibility of Lightroom comes with some costs in terms of effort.
    Now for another slightly confusing concept.
    As part of configuring a new camera for LR or ACR, the Adobe engineers create two import profiles for daylight and tungsten lighting conditions. Your import will be treated with a mixture of those two profiles which attempts to match your lighting conditions. To take advantage of this default processing, you need to apply the default develop preset, which is unfortunately named "None". Well, not exactly, but that's the preset option you need to choose if you want the default processing. To confuse matters a little further, there is a sample preset, called "General - Zeroed", which sounds to most people as what they want. "Give me the picture my camera took, with ZERO changes!" Alas, that particular preset simply sets all of the Develop sliders to zero, which is rarely the correct choice for photo processing.
    Why would anybody choose to forego the sophisticated in-camera processing? The only way to take advantage of that is to save an RGB pixel-oriented format, typically JPG. Unfortunately, in applying that processing to the JPG, the camera makes many decisions which become 'locked-in', and unchangeable with post-processing. Fortunately, it's often possible to take advantage of both worlds. Many cameras offer a RAW+JPG save mode. Don't forget that the in-camera processing is a fundamental compromise between the manufacturer's engineering and marketing departments. Which achievable vision will sell more cameras? Your artisitic vision is what matters in the end.
    Why would anybody choose to use Lightroom for RAW conversion with its inablilty to use the proprietary data available to the camera manufacturer's software converter? Many users cite ease of use, overall sophistication, and better fit to workflow, among others. That's an individual choice. The main concept to glean from this tip is that:
    "Lightroom provides a marvelous flexibility in post-processing photos. But, akin to many tools for the dedicated craftsman, it comes with a cost in terms of learning curve, and a much broader requirement for thoughtful practiced input."
    With the advent of Lightroom 2.0, Adobe also released the DNG Profile Editor in beta, along with beta versions of the standard Adobe camera profiles. In addition the available profiles include 'camera-matching' profiles which are specifically designed to allow LR2 to match the in-camera 'picture styles' available from Nikon and Canon cameras. This capability is revolutionary in a 3rd party product, and will go a long way toward addressing the issues discussed in this article. Find further information on the product here:  Profile Editor At present, Adobe has committed to providing the beta and subsequent Version 1 as a free utility for the photographic community.
    With the advent of Lightroom 2.2, the revised Adobe standard profiles, and the camera matching profiles are automatically installed, and are available in the Camera Calibration panel, lower Right Hand Panel in the Develop module. LR = Adobe Lightroom
    ACR = Adobe Camera Raw

  • Issue with exporting JPGs

    Camera: Nikon D7100 Using 14-bit RAW   So somehow I've failed to notice that when I export after editing and using the resize option (to 2000x2000), the quality of the resulting JPEG is soft and lacking in detail/clarity that exists in the image in LR. Even when I export it without resizing, leaving it in the natively taken resolution, the clarity and sharpness is gone. I've tried using the sharpen for screen settings but it doesn't fix the basic issue of the softness/clarity. I thought it might be the JPG view I was using (the default photo viewer in windows 8), so I reimported it back into lightroom but it shows the same lack of clarity/sharpness.   Attached is a sample of the issue. One is a screenshot of how it looks in LR, the other how it exports. 100% Quality, 72 resolution (have tried the default of 240 and it didn't change anything), sRGB color space. Am I doing something wrong with exporting?

    It happens on both version 5.71 and on version 6 (CC). I'm having the issue that others have had where the develop and library module previews don't match and what is being exported is how the library module sees the edited photo. I understand that there are different preview algorithms for library/develop but that shouldn't matter when exporting.
    This post has a pretty lengthy discussion about the issue but has no resolution:
    Develop module & library module aren't matching

    Hi,
    The D7100 requires ACR 7.4 to read the NEF files.
    You would need Photoshop Elements 11 to be able to install that ACR or version 12 which has it in already
    You could get Lightroom but if you do any manipulation of images using layers and the like, you might still need an editor like the Elements editor. Lightroom doesn't have facial recognition if you use that facility.

  • Clarity slider missing

    I have opened jpg files in Camera RAW with CS3 and I don't see the Clarity slider. I only see the Vibrance and Saturation sliders. Do I need to actually open a RAW file to see the Clarity slider? I am trying to follow along with Scott Kelby's book - 7 Pt System for Photoshop CS3. He seems to be able to do it.
    Mac OS X 10.5.1
    PS CS3

    I'm trying to figure out where my clarity tool is in CS3 on mac. I've supposedly downloaded the update of at least 4.4.1 as I understand that ACR 4.0 did not have the clarity tool. What do I do after this download though? It is still nowhere to be found??

  • Is there a way of improving print clarity in iOS7 on my iPad & iPhone?

    Since I 'upgraded' both my IPad mini & my IPhone 4S to the new operating system I've been both pleased and disappointed.
    Most displeasure is with the loss of the sharp black-on-white clarity that defined iCal in iOS6. The new half tone grey may work well for younger users but the reduction in contrast, especially on a small screen, is infuriating for an older user like me.
    As a freelance (TV director) I use iCal constantly and now find I'm wasting time peering at the screen & deploring its 'pale & fuzzy' look. And, in case you're thinking of a scornful remark about my eyesight, my Zeiss-lensed spectacles give me excellent clarity of vision, thank you.
    Please will Apple quickly introduce an upgrade to change the typeface colour?

    You didn't have a backup of your MacBook's hard drive when it had to be replaced?  If you do look in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to see if the Doman.sites2 file is there.  If it is drag it to the same folder on your new hard drive and open with iWeb.  That should give you your old sites back.
    If you don't have a backup then you'll have to do what QTKirt pointed out.  However, Chapter 2.3 on the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the existing files, image, audio, video, etc., from the published site in the creation of the new site.

  • I am suddenly having a problem when trying to open a .tif file in Adobe bridge. The picture opens in firefox. It never did this before. How do I get my .tif and .jpg files to open in bridge?

    I open Photoshop cs5 version of bridge. Go to a folder that contains photos in .tif, ljpg, etc. file types. When I click on a .tif or .jpg file that I want to open in the raw window of bridge (which it has done for the past year) in opens instead in firefox. How do I stop this from happening????

    It sounds like a problem with Photoshop rather than with Firefox. I suggest posting it on their forum @ http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop

  • How to open multiple jpgs in Adobe Camera Raw PSE 9 Mac

    I am using Adobe Elements 9 on a Mac.  I can open a single jpeg file in ACR with the file open command.  There is no "Open As" in my version, probably because this is the Mac version.  But, there is an additional dialog which allows me to open the jpeg file and select "Camera Raw" as the type.  This opens the jpg in the raw editor.
    But, when I select multiple files to open, the type dialog vanishes.  Rather than opening the files in ACR, they are stacked in the main editor.  I don't have this problem opening multiple dng files - just multiple jpg files.  Multiple jpg files will not open in ACR.
    I then went to the organizer, which replaced Bridge?  In Bridge, I read there is a command to open multiple files in ACR or use the cmd-R.  However, I am not seeing an open in ACR command in the organizer, just open in editor.  Opening multiple jpg files in the organizer stacks them into the editor, not ACR.  And, typing cmd-R brings up Red Eye reduction, not Raw Editing.
    Is there a trick to this which I am missing?

    Thanks Terry! I’ve been using this for a few years and settled on the somewhat more flexible approach… As you mentioned, Bridge offers an explicit command to open a JPEG or TIFF in Camera Raw, which I do, but then with a press of Shift I can open that JPEG as a smart object and revisit CR controls for further adjustment at any time later in the process.

  • Photoshop cs4 color changes after I save it from psd to jpg

    I have used  cs2 for years and just got cs4 and I always work on my pictures in raw then save them as psd then open them in photoshop and work on them and save as jpg for printing.
    I can't seem to be able to do how I used to.
    I open the picturte in raw and fix the color until it looks good, then open it in photoshop and it still looks good and I save it as jpg then the whole thing goes down hill here I view it in Windows live gallery and the color is all off, its way over concentrated and looks red and jsut way different then it did in photoshop and thats how it prints too.
    Any idea what it can be?
    Why soon as I save it as jpg the image looks so different.
    Please help, I'm working on clients pictures and don't seem to be able to save them so they are right.

    okay I see that this is getting little more complicated.
    So now I see it isn't anything with windows.
    I do edit the picture in raw and it looks good and save it as psd then when I open it in photoshop it looks right and if I select view-proof colors then it comes out with that crazy color as it will look after I save it.
    So going from raw where i edit it looks good then after I save it even if I save it there as jpg and open on photoshop it alway changes when it is checked on proof color.
    Is anyone on here that know whay this is happening? how do I make the pictures stay the same after I edit them in raw?
