JPG extract from a RAW/DNG

In LR v3.3 is there a "easy" way to "Extract"  the  JPG  as it was first generated ... after you finish importing into LRv3.3  as a DNG ?
* Can LRv3.3  do this ...  and do this easily?   (why not , if not )
Normally my workflow is to immediatly convert to DNG on import.   I also do apply a  pre-set that is by Camera/ISO.
But, every once and a while ... I want to get the original JPG that was generated out of camera ... from the DNG
* Don't want to have to  start shooting  RAW + JPG when a  JPG is already in the RAW

Rob,
Thank you.
I do rotate my CFs ... so, it depends on how quick my next job is ... I always have the NEFs on the CF for the last job.
Sometimes I know, right away  ....  I would like at least see the JPGs.
So, the NxTooey might come in handy.
Shoot RAW ,   but, I "think" I have the JPG set to sRGB.
What come out of camera as a JPG,  99% of the time mean nothing to me  ...
But, there is that 1%  ... when you liked what you saw on the LCD ,  and you want to at least see that referance point again, maybe side by side with the DNG conversion  lol
It's just a good thing  ...  when that does happen,  we are normally looking at it on camera and compariing it with what comes up as a default import in LR on computer.

  • Ordering Prints from LR Raw/DNG

I've got a boatload of raw/dng photos I need to print. What's a good workflow for ordering prints from an online service?
Say something like Shutterfly? Looks like there's a plugin for LR. I'd like to avoid mass converting to Jpeg/srgb... is there any service that takes a raw/proPhoto rgb? Or is that overkill?

JPG highest quality, full resolution with sRGB should be good enough for a place like Shutterfly, unless they gprovide formats for special paper, then you can convert to those, but be sure you specify they have a custom profile and no auto-adjustments are to be performed, otherwise things won’t look right since they’re likely to assume sRGB for the profile.
Raw cannot have ProPhotoRGB associated with it since it is raw sensor data not RGB data.  And a raw file would be interpreted by the printing company using whatever software and settings they wanted, completely ignoring whatever you’d done in Lightroom.
What gives you the idea that you need to send raw photos, or even ProPhotoRGB photos?  Is the prints going to be in glowing or fluorescent ink.  I can’t imagine any other reason to use ProPhotoRGB as an image profile desitined for printed output since paper usually has a lower gamut than your monitor, even.   You use ProPhotoRGB with 16-bit TIFs for intermedia or archival perposes.  You wouldn’t want to use ProPhotoRGB with an 8-bit format or as a final output format for printed or display purposes since the gamut of the paper or display would be much smaller than ProPhotoRGB.  Normally you use ProPhotoRGB as an intermediate format for images that will be adjusted further.

  • Prerendert mp4 replace with RAW DNG in After Effects

    Hello,
I try to replace a mp4 clip with RAW DNG. The mp4 clip was made from the RAW DNG, but when I try to replace it, the length of the clip never fits.
    Details:
    1. RAW DNG recorded with 30fps
    2. RAW DNG with Media Encoder to 30 fps mp4 rendered
    3. mp4 import to AE
    4. Replace mp4 with RAW DNG
    Result:
    mp4 clip length = 08:19:12
    DNG RAW length = 06:39:04
The info window shows bith clips with 30fps .
Both clips shows: 0000000-0011973 (frame count from dng raw )
    All Settings on 30fps:
Media Encoder: "Media / Indeterminate Media Timebase: 30fps"
After Effetcs: "Import / Sequence Footage 30 fps"
Premiere. " Media / Indeterminate Media Timebase: 30fps" (just in case  - maybe encoder reference pp..i dont think so..but..)
What can I do? Im doing something wrong, or is it a software error?
Even if I dont replace, just import the raw dng to AE it show the shorter lenght, but as well 30fps in the info window.

    I did a testfile.
I exported a clip (30fps) to png sequence (60fps) and add it to the media encoder and when I press the button "match source" Media Encoder shows me (again) 23,976fps, but when I manually put it on 30fps it really export with 30fps. So I have a mp4 with 30fps
So I import that mp4 to AE its 03:29, when I import the pngs itself directly to AE its 03:29. So my setting seems to be correct. I choose the same settings importing RAW DNG.
I recognize that Media Encoder doesn`t recognize that the RAW DNG is a picture sequence, in the import window the "import sequenze square" is grey out, but it imports it as a the picture sequence, but not with the correct fps.
Its confusing, because it shows in the the clip info, after rendering the correct fps (30fps), but its not 30fps , its more like 23,976 frames. So it really looks that its a adobe software error.
    Is it?

  • DNG converter fails to extract embedded .cr2 raw files

I just tried to extract embedded raw files from 889 raw files from a Canon 5D3 having been converted by the DNG converter 6.7 beta - the DNG converter only succeeded with extracting three of them. I also tried with the 6.6 stable version with the same result.
If DNG converter can't easily retrieve the embedded raw files then I think this "feature" should be left out - it's misleading people into taking unwanted risks when you're better off just keeping the originals (it's a bit more messy to organise and archive two sets of files, but I'd rather do that than having to mess around with this)
So stay away from this "feature" unless you want to paint yourself into a corner.

Download and test the most recent version (final GM) of DNG Converter 6.7 and retest...might also be useful to provide a bit more info such as OS & CPU...and also whether or not the DNGs behave normally in ACR or LR. Basic troubleshooting info to test or duplicate your findings would be useful (required) before you can honestly be making such "blanket" statements about DNG Converter...

I cannot get .arw or jpeg files from my Sony A6000 to be taken into my Lightroom 4.4 via the normal "synchronise" process.  I have updated my Pc to Adobe RAW/DNG 8.4 with no improvement.  Can you help please?

With regards to your .arw files:
You need to either purchase and install Lightroom 5.4 -- OR -- download and install and use the FREE Adobe DNG Converter version 8.4, did you actually launch and use the DNG Converter?
There should be no problem importing JPG files into Lightroom from your camera, what happens when you try? Is there an error message?

  • How do I process raw .dng or .pef from pentax k20d into .tiff 's (or jpegs) in aperture 3?

    hi all my friends!
how do I process raw .dng or .pef from a pentax k20d into tiffs or jpegs in aperture 3? (i have the trial only but will buy a3 if i actually can learn how to use it in 30 days...which i've failed so far)... the raw files are taking up too much space on my HDD. i understand how to change the colors, sharpness etc of the raw files. but how do i actually turn raw files into a tiff or jpeg to just keep in the library in aperture? i have no intention of keeping the raw's.. I just shoot raw to get better jpeg or tiff results.
also I would greatly appreciate some tips how to do this in batches fast and easy. I have yet to yield images so good i will actually want to spend time perfecting them. for now i just want an easy way to turn raw files into tiffs or jpegs with some standard or completely auto mode. i can do it in camera but it is time consuming.
and you cant convert raw to jpeg or tiff in iphoto, right?
    best regards, Joakim
p.s. and thank you who will answer this...i can't find the answer anywhere...tried for a whole day... d.s.

do you know if the raw files are some way made more compact when you shut down aperture? cause i mean, +20MB for a pic is a lot of space on the hard drive vs. 5MB for a jpeg or so...of course keeping your raws would be the optimum if they simply don't take that much more space than a jpeg... how does aperture do it? are the files "zipped" when not in use?
No, the size of the files doesn't change, Aperture doesn't compress or otherwise alter the masters.
and in either case, can you put the aperture archive/library somewhere else than on your local HD, like a portable 1 TB HD? mine is only 250 Gb or so and running low...
This is doable and most people running on laptops use this method in one form or another. The best results are  obtained by keeping the library on the internal HD but storing the masters on an external HD. The masters in this case are referred to as 'referenced' (when the masters are in the actual Aperture library they are referred to as 'managed' )
By putting the masters on an external disk but keeping the library on the internal you get the best of both worlds, reduced internal disk consumption and better speed accessing the Aperture library. If the library itself was on the external HD, especially if it was USB, you could notice decreased performance.
There has been much written about this type of setup here in the discussions. Searching the list here should get many articles discussing this topic with lots of very good advice.  Also spend some tim with the User manual, Apple did a good job with it and the fist few sections really explain the various bits of the library and the different ways to set it up.
As i wrote in my first question, is there an easy way to adjust the values of a 100 raw files automatically?
To adjust a large number of images try this: Select one image and adjust  it as you like. Then select Metadata->Lift Adjustments, a HUD will open. Now select the other 99 images and in the HUD that opened select Stamp Selected Images, all those 99 images will now have the adjustments you applied to the first image.
Again this is all covered in the manual.
    Good luck

  • Import only jpg files from a camera that shoots RAW+jpg?

Is there a way to import only jpg files from a camera that shoots both RAW+jpg? I only want the small jpgs copied, not the RAW file. I have the USB adapter and am about to go on vacation and wanted to use my iPad to upload pictures to Facebook on the go so I am going to shoot on my Canon 5D in RAW+jpg. All I want to copy to the iPad are the jpg files. Is there a way to only copy one?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
I would note there is a long-standing issue between Kodaks and some versions of OS X - the workaround for that is to use a USB Card reader.

  • Need a batch to make jpg's from raw (NEF) files

    I have a map with 100 raw/nef files.
How can I automate the process of making jpg's from them.
    I have CS3

    Here's one way:
Open them all in Camera Raw, hit the [ Select All ] button at the upper-left, then use the [ Save Files ] button at the lower-left of the dialog to save JPEGs.

  • Jpg export limited to 2000px from 4256px RAW?  Aperture 2.1.4

hi, i have the problem, that when i export from 4256px RAW (D700) files jpgs that should be in original dimensions (i choosed that in the setting), i always get jpg files with only 2000px. if i export PSD, everything is fine. is there a limitation or is it my mistake?
    thanks !

ps: sorry for my english, it was a long day....

Something is not set correctly -- it should be full pixels if you have chosen JPEG Original as the selection when Exporting. With JPEG Original chosen in the Export window, click on Edit and see what is reported.
Btw, while I do not have D700, I have some images I shot with one in a test, and thus could test with one of those to check before I posted.

  • URGENT - Extract Image Files From Long Raw Column

    Hi.
I have to extract image files (tif and wmf format) from "long raw" column and put them in a directory, using a PL/SQL procedure.
    Can anyone help me.
    Thanks

Well that is interesting, that ORA returns no records on Metalink. Anyway, that was for my own curiosity.
As you are on 10g, this is how I would write a long raw to a file if I had no choice:
    1) create a gtt with a column of type blob
    2) insert into the gtt the long raw column using the to_lob conversion function
    3) you now have a lob!
    4) open a binary file for writing using utl_file (binary mode was introduced in 10g)
    4) use dbms_lob to read through the blob and write it in chunks to the file
You will have to do this row by row. It will be painfully excrutiatingly slow.
This is basically your only choice unless you have a OCI programmer to hand. In which case I would be getting them to write the C code to read the long raw column and write it to a file. This could then be compiled into a library and called as an external procedure from PL/SQL.

  • How to create jpg's from ARW (Sony RAW)?

    Hello!
    I have Photoshop CS6 Extended.
Is it possible to create jpeg photos differing only by 1 EV basing on RAW
file automaticaly in CS6 (Camera RAW)?
I don`t want to open RAWs files every time I want to create a jpeg photo.
    I have 3 RAW files: -2 EV 0 EV +2 EV
I want to create 13 jpeg photos at one time
    - from 0 EV RAW file I want to create jpeg photos: -1 EV 0 EV and +1 EV
    - from -2 EV RAW file I want to create jpeg photos: -6 EV -5 EV -4 EV -3
    EV -2 EV
    - from +2EV RAW file I want to create jpeg photos: +2 EV +3 EV + 4 EV + 5 EV
    +6 EV
Is it possible to create such files at one time in CS6?

    Question 1
To create a multipage tiff you use the method TIFFEncodeParam#setExtraImages. The method takes an iterator. I'm not sure if there is a built in way to append pages to an already existing file, but in theory you can read from the already existing file as needed (when iterator#next is called) and write to a temporary file, before replacing the existing file with the temporary one. So you'll still have to read the existing file, but you don't have to keep all the images in memory.
If you switch to core java's ImageWriter/ImageReader api and get [JAI-Imageio|https://jai-imageio.dev.java.net/binary-builds.html] (which has a TIFF ImageWriter plugin) then you can insert images into an already existing file. Presumably the TIFF ImageWriter appends directly to the file.
    Question 2
The only thing special about a BufferedImage is that it has exactly one raster at (0,0) and it's guaranteed to have a color model. RenderedImages may have more than one raster and are not guaranteed to have a color model. But if your RenderedImage does have a color model, then you get rgb data from it the same way a BufferedImage does,
colorModel.getRGB(raster.getDataElements(x, y, null));There are other ways, but this is the most generic.

I copied jpg files from my mac book to a windows pc, however, when I go to the widows machine I can see them on the hard drive of the pc but the pc will not open them.
During the copy an added extension, a "dot" and then an underscore before each files name.  Example.  On my mac I have a jpg file named 2f.jpg and when I copied it over it appears on the windows pc as   ._2f.jpg.  Windows can not read it

    Hi Friends,
I'm forced to use a PC at work that I have the windows formatted ext hard drive connected to for backup purposes.
I connected the external drive via USB2 to my TiPB and downloaded some RAW image files.
Those image files are not recognized by my Bridge on my Mac.
Those image files are no longer recognized by my PC thru Bridge, Photoshop or Lightroom. I also see an extra file type with the name "filename.dng.mac"
Therefore, if my original file name is "_JTR0398.dng", then, after mounting the external HD on my laptop or PowerMac, I also get another file next to it named "_JTR0398.dng.mac".
    Thanks for your help!
