JPG files become corrupt after Exporting in LR 3

Does anyone have any idea what would cause
my JPG files to be corrupt after I export my edited Raw images in LR3?  There are no problems with the Raw file, but once I edit them, apply what ever settings to them in LR I need, I export them as JPG to the same hard drive but in a sub folder where the raw files are, they will not open in photoshop or anywhere else. They are corrupt or lacking data????   When I upload them to my proofing website, there are colored streaks all through the image.  Now, I noticed that when I go into that folder of RAW images, and delete the .xmp files, I have to start over, but it fixes the problem.  So, now, I can't use .xmp sidecar files to save my editing. I'm fairly new to LR, so any suggestions would be great. I did recently upgrade my system to OS windows 7.  Everythign was fine till I had to reinstall everything on my computer...and I also changed hard drives. I upgraded to a Terabyte drive moving all my images from a 500G to the terabyte.  Could that cause my sidecar files to be corrupted?????
Thank you!!!!!

I doubt that the XMP files have anything to do with this, as Lightroom doesn't use these files when it creates an exported file.
It sounds like your hardware may be the culprit; these types of corrupt files are often caused by a failing hard drive. Some corruption may have happened in the transfer from one hard drive to another; or the new hard drive has some sort of problem.
Can you hook up the old hard drive again and see what happens to the photos there? Open one of them and compare it to the photo on the new hard drive.

  • After upgrading to version 6 my ArcGIS files become corrupted if I save them while I have FF open (sporadic occurence, but limited to FF being open). How can I downgrade to version 5?

I am using ArcGIS 10 and Firefox 6 on Windows XP.
After upgrading to version 6 my ArcGIS files become corrupted if I save them while I have FF open (sporadic occurence, but limited to FF being open). Any ideas of what could be causing this? I have also posted on the ArcGIS forum site for input from that side.
How can I downgrade to version 5? If that is the only option available.

Thanks for the reply. It doesn't have to process the php, it just has to show the HTML content. It did that just fine before the last upgrade but won't now.
I've seen that page you referenced: http://kb.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions.
It doesn't help. The things it says to look for aren't there for me, specifically:
    browser.download.pluginOverrideTypes
    plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types
I followed the rest of the instructions but it didn't help.
I did get it to quit opening tabs, instead it prompts me what it should do with the file every time now. What it should do, and used to do, is open the php page and display the HTML content.
    Any other ideas?

  • Files get corrupted after import-export

    Hi
After exporting images from HTML DB 2.0 and importing them some of the files are corrupted after import.
This has happened with one .js file and with one .pdf file.
All the other (including some PDF-s) are correct.
The "File Character Set" specified on import is correct and there are no other parameters I can change.
If I look the contents of corrupted files it seems that another file has been pasted at the end of the original file.
    What could be wrong?

    Hello,
Any news on this ? I have the same (reproducable) problem with a .js file.
Uploading works fine, but when I try to download it again, the contents of another file seems to have been appended at the end. The file also doesn't work when I try to include it using #WORKSPACE_IMAGES#...js

  • When Password Protected - The File Becomes Corrupted and I Can Not Open It

I have password protected two files now in Excel 2007.  After opening and then saving a few times, the file becomes corrupted and I cannot open.  The following error message appears  "Excel cannot open the file"XXXX.xlsx" because
the file format or file extenson is not valid.  Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file.
The files that I created contains sensitive information and I really need to get to them.l

You can try to open these files with 'Open and Repair' .
    1.Start Excel.
2.click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Open.
3.In the Open dialog box, click to select the file that you want to open.
4.Click the down arrow on the Open button, and then click Open and Repair.
Also this issue could be  caused by malware on the affected machine
    Please see:http://blogs.technet.com/b/the_microsoft_excel_support_team_blog/archive/2013/09/07/quot-cannot-open-the-file-because-the-file-format-or-extension-is-invalid-quot-opening-office-files.aspx
Some one works out this issue with remove the xlsx entention, give it a try.
    1. rename the file and remove the .xlsx or .xls extention etc e.g. if my file is called test.xlsx I remove the '.xlsx' - you will get a warning message saying this could make the document unstable - accept it
    2. the document icon should now have turned white (the document won't look like an excel document anymore)
    3. open a blank excel document by hitting start -> all programs -> Microsoft office -> excel (this may be different if your not on windows 7)
    4. in your blank excel document hit file -> open
    5. navigate to the document you renamed above and select it, now click open

    Ok, lets be brief.
This problem is annoying me for years. It is totally reproducible although random. It happens when copying to external drives (mainly USB) when they are configured for "safe removal". I have had issues copying to NTFS and FAT32 partitions. I have
had issues using 4 different computers, from 7 years old to brand new ones, using AMD or intel chipsets and totally different USB controllers, and using many different USB sticks, hard disks, etc. The only common thing in those computers is Windows 7 x64 and
the external drives optimization for "safe removal". Installing Teracopy reduces the chances of data corrpution, but does not eliminate them completely. The only real workaround (tested for 2 years) is activating the write cache in the device manager
properties of the drive. In that way, windows uses the same transfer mechanisms as for the internal drives, and everything is OK.
MICROSOFT guys, there is a BIG BUG in windows 7 x64 external drives data transfer mechanism. There is a bug in the cache handling mechanism of the safe removal function. Nobody hears, I've been years talking about this in forums. It is a very dangerous bug
because it is silent, and many non professional people is experiencing random errors in their backup data. PLEASE, INVESTIGATE THIS. YOU NEED TO FIX SUCH IMPORTANT BUG. IT IS UNBELIEVABLE THAT IT IS STILL THERE SINCE 2009!!!
    Hope this helps.

  • OS X partition becomes corrupt after switching from Bootcamp

So I've had to reinstall os x 10.9.1 no less than three  times this week and multiple times before in the past after switching between os x and windows 8.1. This usually happens after I've been using windows for a prolonged period then switch back to os x but it happened today after reinstalling os x from a time machine backup just yesterday. I'll switch between the two and os x becomes corrupt and begins the loading bar sequence after selecting the os x partition via the refit boot manager. I tried repairing the partition using disk utility from the repair partition and an external installation of os x 10.9.1 but every time the disk becomes corrupt and needs to be wiped and reinstalled or install a time machine backup. I've lost count of how many times I've had to do this and to make things even worse both of my external disks have become corrupt after being disconnected for two days while I sort this mess out. Does anyone else have similar issues or can locate an issue somewhere?

Yeah I reinstalled osx 10.9.1 and installed all my apps, put everything back then used bootcamp to create a partition for windows then used wineclone to install my windows 8.1 backup. I jumped from windows > osx > windows > osx inside an hour to move around a few things and I forgot verify bootcamp after I installed the backup and that last time I booted to osx it was corrupted. I used disk utility from my external installation and the recovery partition and both times they need repaired which only came up with the backup and wipe notification window. There have been two occasions where I was able to fix the osx partition from my external osx installation and continue using osx quite perfectly but usually the partition becomes un-mountable after it fails to repair. Usually when this has happened the twenty something times before it's after a prolonged period of a few weeks using windows.
I'm using refit boot manager and paragon NTFS 11 which may be the only software I've installed that could be corrupting the boot.

  • Quicktime file becomes corrupted only after transfer from a camera

I have encountered an unusual Quicktime-related problem with a customer that I cannot solve. This has been tested on two different cameras (a Kodak Zi6 and a Casio EX-Z80) to verify it is not camera related. The customer has also tested it on his desktop and laptop computers to verify it occurs on both. It must be confined to some specific piece of software he installs, because I've never run into this problem elsewhere. His two computers both run Vista.
    1. He shoots video.
    2. Opens Quicktime.
    3. Plays the video (AVI or MOV... doesn't matter) while the video RESIDES on his camera. It plays fine.
    4. Has tried taking the SD card out of the camera, putting it into his laptop, then playing the video while it resides on the card. It plays fine.
    5. BUT... the moment he transfers the video file to his desktop and plays it in Quicktime, it becomes corrupted. It does play, but the image develops all kinds of blockyness and distorted colors. It becomes useless.
Any clues as to which software program he is installing that makes this problem occur? I have hundreds of other customers who use these same cameras and have no similar problem.
    Thanks.
    Richard

The video file is able to be transfered to the hard drive of the computer and it does play with QT, but with blockyness and distorted colors, correct? That would suggest to me video card and\or driver. The reason being if the file was not supported by QT or WMP it would not even play. QT would produce error 2048 and WMP would inform it could not handle the file. But...
I would go to the Window menu of QT player and click on Show Movie Inspector to get some info on the video file.
salaminizer, makes a good point on the possibilty of NTFS\FAT32 file systems. Right clicking on My Computer>Manage>Disk Management will show info of HD's on the computer. Some bought computers will have a back-up Partition that uses Fat32. Which the video might be being saved to.
I'm thinking video card and drivers, but on two separate computers? So find out the video codecs. It's tough unless you have the same camera or what software came with it? Let me know how you make out.

  • Files become corrupt

    Windows 7 64-bit
    8GB Ram
    Indesign CS5.5 with all updates
    FIles:
small 20,000 word book (1 single document) with no pictures, from a Word file
500 page book (1 single document), with 20 small jpgs (about 2MB total), text generated from scans/OCR, inserted as unformatted text
various copies, new/moved, new/IDML, etc. generated as tests
    Problems
Several (all?) files created since 05/05 (the initial manifestation occurred almost instantly) have become corrupted. It either shows up immediately or takes around 6-8 hours
Things generally done with a mouse (click and drag to make a text box, resize a text box, copy or move text, placing the cursor to edit) become sluggish (reszing a text box could take 5 seconds to 17 minutes), jerky or sticky (click and drag a handle, release it, the frame edge might move (if and when it does) 0.125" or 6"
clicking and dragging text sometimes moves the wrong text or releases it in the wrong place
New text boxes have multiple columns although the columns setting is 1
Doing some things (e.g. click on export) cause InDesign to freeze
    Failed solutions
The suddenness of the problem made me think it could be a virus--tested the Word file (noted above) and my system:  found no malware of any sort
Changed the mouse: touchpad, Wacom Intuos, Logitech trackball (the Wacom tablet works 100% perfectly in Photoshop 32bit, but work only like a mouse in Photoshop 64bit--32/64 bit; drivers are current)
any attempt to go into InDesign security (as directed by a technician) fail: no permissions (my account has full administrate rights; a new admin account has full administrative rights) so whatever we could have done there, cannot be done
Exported the file as an InDesign Markup IDML, opened in InDesign
Moved content of file to new file
Creating a new file by moving or opening IDML, may not work at all, or will appear to work but the corruption re-occurs in 1-8 hours
    uninstalled and re-installed InDesign
I uploaded a file to technical support. They promised to call back three different time. They did not. When I have called, they say, "24-48 hours they will call back."
Thank you for any help you can give.

OK, so, I finally got a chance to read this through this thread. Can you post a link to one of the problem documents, or email one to me?
(Sorry, I had thought you had done so earlier, but I realized I just misinterpretted something you said).
Another thing to try, of course, is testing against CS6 (8.0.0.370). CS6 does fix a number of bugs and it's where engineers do development, so it's most likely to get easily fixed in CS6 before CS5.5, and there's a not-insignificant chance that CS6 fixes your problem already.
I think your best bet at this point is to try to isolate the problem and determine what about your documents causes this problem. While getting a new version of InDesign out that fixes your problem is not going to happen quickly (if at all), figuring out how to avoid the problem certainly is doable. After all thousands of people use ID every day and don't see this.
The best start is to get a minimal document that exhibits the problems (as few pages as possible). Once there, exporting it to IDML and opening the IDML in ID to confirm the corruption survives the IDML. If that's the case, then you can unzip the IDML and inspect it (it is human-readable XML) and try to determine what is unique/special about your document.
This might be a long odyssey. Of course, my experience is that putting in the effort is more likely to get you results than letting Adobe Support do it for you, but you might have a different scenario.
I don't want to make excuses for them, but I suspect what's going on is that the support people you are talking to are waiting for the higher-level support people, or even for Engineering, and they don't have good control over the timliness of those other people. But that's not an excuse for giving you callback estimates that are not met -- Adobe seems to have a serious problem with this and I would not give them a free pass for it. It seems to happen all too often.
If you totally get stuck you could try asking for the Noida Duty Manager and see what that gets you (Noida, UP, India is the location of Adobe's support center).
But realistically, I'm not sure that is going to make engineering work any faster. Maybe it'll just make them give you more realistic estimates for calls-back...

  • Video app becomes corrupted after streaming iTunes purchases

I wasn't sure what to use for a title here, but chose this because it captures much of what I am seeing.
    Hardware:
    3rd gen iPad, 32GB, iOS 7.0.4
    What I am doing:
I purchase TV shows and movies from the iTunes store, but as we watch them while on the home Wifi network, there is no need to download the content to a device before viewing. Once a TV show or movie is purchased, it can be viewed in the Videos app as streaming content, much the same way that it does on Apple TV (which doesn't permanently store anything).
Key observation: I usually make these purchases through the Videos app itself, rather than going explicitly to the iTunes Store app. I am not sure this makes a difference, but it may.
    What happens:
It all works well for several weeks or months. Then 3 bad things happen:
    1) During this time I observe that the available space on the iPad steadily decreases (viewed through Settings -> General -> Usage). It starts with a value of approximately 12GB free space, and then declines, despite the fact that I am not storing any media files locally. After approximately 2 months, I now have 5GB free, and cannot account for the "missing" 7GB, not even close.
While it is to be expected that any streaming device must temporarily store content, that content is usually cleared after viewing or after some predetermined time interval, etc. I do not expect this content to simply accumulate endlessly.
    2) Eventually, videos will fail to work properly. I will attempt to watch a purchased item, and it will run painfully slow, and may be missing audio. I check Usage, and my free space continues to decline. Subsequent attempts to view TV show and movies are now unreliable.
Big clue: shows that do not work properly cannot be deleted or downloaded locally.
    3) The entire iPad becomes notably slower and less responsive running all of my usual apps (Pages, Numbers, Facebook, etc.)
What I tried that was illuminating:
I noted that under Settings -> General -> Usage, it shows the Video app as containing "No data". So, I tried downloading a different purchased video in order to guarantee that there is some data. While this video plays within the Video app, I observe that Usage still shows the Video app as having "No data", which is verifiably untrue.
Conclusion: the database used by the Videos app is failing to purge old streamed content, becoming corrupted, and now failing to report data storage to iOS.
    What works:
Sadly, the only cure for this problem is a complete erase/restore of the iPad from iCloud backup. When I do this, all of my "missing" storage returns, and videos work normally. The iPad performance returns to its usual snappy self. But the cycle repeats, and I must eventually go through the 3+ hour restore process again.
This solution is 100% consistent with a corrupt database, and hence I suspect that the Video app is the culprit, consuming space until other systems are affected.
    Has anyone else seen this?

I'm experiencing this exact issue on two devices:
    iPhone 4S 32GB
    iPad Air 64 GB
Both while running iOS 7.03 and 7.04 (recently updated both devices to 7.04 hoping it would help. It didn't)
My iPhone had become nearly unusable until I found your post. It had apparently accumulated >12 GB of "temporary streamed content", as after I did a backup/wipe/restore, I had recovered to around 12 GB free space.
It's unfortunate that the fix requires a complete reset/restore cycle, as it's very time-consuming, but thanks for providing that fix! It saved my iPhone 4S. Now I can comfortable wait until the 6 comes out to get a new iPhone.
Really, though, this seems like a critical bug for iOS devices. I'll certainly not stream any iTunes content until/unless this is fixed. I found that if I turn off "Show all Videos" in the Video App settings, it doesn't show the iTunes cloud content for streaming from within the App. This forces me into iTunes to do a full download if I want to watch something. Kind of a pain, but it beats a device that's maxed out on storage and basically bricked.

  • Set word file read only after exporting through mail merge

    Hello,
I am exporting the ALV report to word file using standard functionality using mail merge.
But my requirement is after exporting to word ,file should be protected or read only.
Plz Help me to solve this issue.
    Thanks,

  • File system corrupted *after* it was unmounted

    Hi all,
I'd be interested in any opinions on this problem.
I recently bought a 1TB Samsung Story Station 3 usb hard drive for use with Time Machine.
This model of drive has a power switch on the front. Most of the time I don't need hourly backups so my plan is to leave the drive turned off most of the time and only turn it on when I feel the need for automatic hourly backups.
A beautiful setup... except... The file system keeps getting corrupted and it is not always repairable.
    What is happening?
My procedure is to eject the disk then switch off the drive.
About half the time an immediate disk verify will report that the disk requires repair.
I have tried variations of this with very similar results. Here is a typical failure scenario:-
1 - Start Time Machine "Back Up Now"
2 - Let it copy some data then stop the backup (if necessary)
    3 - Eject the disk
4 - Switch off the drive
5 - Switch on the drive
    6 - Verify
    Variations on the theme...
I have tried the drive with and without a bootable image restored to it and therefore with and without journalling on the file system (I believe).
1, 2 - I have tried copying data using finder instead of using time machine.
3 - I have tried umount -f and diskutil unmount
Note that umount without -f reports the drive is busy but other ejection/unmount mechanisms work.
    Is this related?
The only thing that may have made a difference is that powering down the mac, instead of just the drive, after ejection has not yet resulted in a damaged file system.
The obvious conclusion to draw is that a buffer somewhere is not being flushed before I turn off the drive, but is this buffer in OS X or in the drive itself?
In either case I assume other people are having the same problem.
For now I will just leave the drive turned on all the time. Maybe this is what everyone else does so nobody else has sees the problem.

I need help with my MP3 Player. This is the second one I have bought and it keeps going to 'File System Corrupted'. Its an RCA MP3 Player. Holds 5GB's. My first one lasted about 6 months and this one only 3 months. I don't drop it. Like maybe once, but on a soft floor and its never been thrown or beaten on. No marks on it from being dropped or hit on anything. Also I can't get it to respond to my computer. I plug it in and says, 'File System Corrupted'. There needs to be like a way to fix it. Other wise the people who built it are getting money easily with a device that works only a short limited amount of time. I've pressed my power button and held it for 0 seconds. Nothing happens. I'm really annoyed with this device. I've waited much money on it. Is there at all a way to fix it. ~Dark Warrior~

  • Has anyone had a problem with CS5 files becoming corrupt?

I'm using Photoshop 5.5 and OS Lion. The Finder crashed while doing a Search. When I rebooted and opened Photoshop, every Photoshop file I had worked on that afternoon, plus two from the day before, was corrupt - nothing else was affected. Desktop preview icons and file sizes looked fine, but when I opened the files they were just bands of color and noise. All layers were gone and the size was incorrect.  The jpgs I had saved from the psd files were also corrupt. Adobe blames Apple and Apple blames Adobe. I'd like to learn why it happened, so I can make sure it won't happen again. This is my business and clients simply don't accept "the files became corrupt" as an excuse!

I don't use Carbonite nor have I read anything about it, but do they just keep one copy of the latest backed-up file?  That seems a bit short-sighted.  Are there maybe options for recovering older versions that you're not seeing?
Data can be very valuable in these modern times.
I use a number of different forms of backup, including scheduled system image backups to external USB drives, scheduled data file backups to other drives and systems in my network, and even copying critical data to BD-R discs by hand occasionally.
I'm sorry for your loss of data, mhall5553, but let this be a wake up call to all readers of this thread that you need to take the time to think about what's being backed up and whether you're protected well-enough from various different kinds of data loss.
Don't forget to think about what if you yourself screw up a file - e.g., accidentally save over one you really want to keep.
It's not necessary to get a subscription to an online service to do backup.  It may seem a bit geeky but all computer systems provide some backup capabilities (e.g., to external USB drives, to discs, to other internal drives, etc.) - even if it's just a matter of copying your critical files yourself.
Expect the worst and hope for the best.
Speaking of which, glad we're all still here on this December 21, 2012.
    -Noel
P.S., I was disappointed to learn that in Windows 8 Microsoft has deprecated the "Previous Versions" feature that was integrated with their Windows Backup tool in Windows 7.  They claim to have replaced it with something called "File Versions", I suppose to try to follow Apple's lead with Time Machine, but people are not finding File Versions to work very well.

  • Firefox has become corrupted after update

Well...the title or were the question should be says it all, it happened not to long ago like 5 min. ago after a routine up date firefox didn't open. I figured well this has happened before so I went through the usual and restarted my computer, that didn't work, I uninstalled and tried to reinstall that didn't work either afterwards every time I tried to install aftter installing, it said "windows is searching for firefox.exe, to locate this file your self click browse" when I clicked where the firefox icon should be.
I did browse and I found firefox's folder, thing is it had no executable file so I uninstalled again, every time I did so it said "an error occured while trying to uninstall mozilla firefox 13.0.1 (d86 en-US) it may have already been uninstalled" which is strange it did not tell me that the first time I tried and after many re-installations. I went through my files and found were mozillas folder was at apparently it did not install or uninstall so I proceeded to delete everything not before I backed up my profile (at least I think I did).
When I got down to the last item in the folder which was another folder it did not want to uninstall the name of that folder was "uninstall" (yes I know inception who what of guessed) turns out the file had corrupted every time I tried to delet it said "An unexpected error is keeping you from deleting the folder. If you continue to recieve this error you can use error code

  • I'm trying to export my masters to use in Lightroom, can't get the ratings to export. Tried writing the IPTC to masters and exporting with an IPTC4XMP file, no luck. These are all .jpg files. The ratings export OK if I export the versions. Any suggestions

I'm trying to export my Aperture masters to use in Lightroom, can't get the ratings to export. Tried writing the IPTC data to the masters and adding the IPTC4XMP file when exporting, neither worked. The ratings show up in Lightroom if I export the versions. These are all .jpg's that I am exporting. Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks

    There are two problems here:
    1) Aperture does not modify its "original" files on export.  Meaning with the JPEG files that Aperture will NOT modify them, and it will not write IPTC data to them.  It exports the XMP sidecar files, as you're seeing.
    2) Adobe will NOT read IPTC sidecar files for non-RAW images.  So if it sees a JPEG file, it will not look for an XMP sidecar file.  It just doesn't read them, so the data won't be imported by Lightroom.
If you are using JPEG files, then probably the solution is to check the box in Aperture to tell it to write XMP metadata to the original files.  They're not RAW files, so they're not proprietary in any way, so writing the XMP metadata to the JPEG files is probably pretty safe.

  • All my .psd files are corrupt after a pc restart...

What the hell?!?! What could have caused it and is there any chance I can restore anything ... Everything on my pc seems ok but the psd files ...

    This is what I get
I am using Photoshop CC on Windows 7

It sounds unlikely that multiple PSD files have become corrupted.  My first thought when seeing the thread title was a bad Windows FAT (File Allocation Table) but even that sounds unlikely to only affect PSD files.  So I'd be looking at the common denominator, which is Photoshop.  Have you tried creating a new document, and saving and reopening?
I think I'd try opening the files with another app like Irfanview, or just reinstalling Photoshop.  Do you have the files backed up?
