Jpg locked in preview

jpg is locked in preview.  In Get Info it is not locked. how to unlock.

Try using the chflags in terminal.
Open terminal and type sudo chflags nouchg followed by a space.  Then drag the file into the terminal window.  You should have a line that looks something like the following:
sudo chflags nouchg /path/to/file
where /path/to/file is the pathname to the file.  Hit return.  You will be promted for your administrator password.  Type it in (it will not be echoed on the terminal).
See if the file is unlocked now.
If this works the question would be where did the file come from and how the uchg flag got set in the first place.

  • Lock Screen Preview

    Hello,
I have been trying for the past hour to change my lock screen preview. For some reason, when I turned on my laptop today, it had changed the lock screen to a picture that looks like a beehive. I want to change the lock screen to a picture that I have saved on my laptop. Every time that I try to do this under settings and change pc settings, the image never loads nor will it let me select a default theme that comes with the computer. When I try to do the picture option, it shows the pink loading dot circle thing and it never actually loads my picture into the preview. I have tried restarting my laptop, yet I still experience the same problem. Can anyone help me fix this problem? Thank you.

Can you verify for me the full product number and OS version of your notebook? Please read the following documents if you need help in finding those.
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
Normally I ask that first if someone does not include it in their original post, but it seems I must have been distracted somehow. Oh well, such is life. Anyway, once I have that info, I will be better able to target my answers for you.
A few other quick questions, when you try to make your changes are you logged in with an  account with administrator access?
Also do you have a screen shot of the exact error that you got when you tried to change the lock screen image?

  • Lock screen preview no longer working with 10.3.1

    Hi
We have updated all devices running work space only to 10.3.1 and the device no longer shows message previews in the lock screen.
    Is this a bug?
I have turned on all instant preview options on the device.
    Thanks

  • Cannot open jpg files in Preview? Error message "may be damaged or use a file format that preview does not recognize".

For some reason I cannot open jpg files from a co-worker who previosuly sent files without any problems.  I just bought a MacBook Air with OS X Lion & Preview won't open the files.  She sent the same files to another co-worker who opened without any issues?  Help!  Anyone have any suggestions after having the same or similar problem?

I don't have an answer as to why Preview doesn't want to cooperate, but if you only need to view the jpeg's and do nothing else to them, you can use two FREE applications that come already pre-installed on your Mac... Those are iPhoto and Safari. Just drag and drop over the application icon.
You can also find several FREE photo viewers in the APP STORE.

  • Jpgs opened in Preview have strange distortions

Hi. I am trying to import some jpgs from a DVD into my iPhoto library (iPhoto 6 (6.0.6). I get the "Unreadable File" error message others have reported. When I open the images in Preview (Preview 3.0.9) the images have strange pixelated distortions. If I save them from Preview, I can import them into the iPhoto library, but the pixelations remain.
    Troubleshooting things I have tried:
    1. Booting in safe mode - opening another jpg (no problem). Restarting normally and trying to open image from DVD in Preview - same pixelation problem.
    2. Opening images from DVD on another computer. The DVD would not open at all on a Windows machine - just hung. Opened FINE on another mac (iMac, with same OS, iPhoto and Preview versions - but it had Photoshop, which I do not.)
So, it appears there is a combatibility problem? What do I do now?
I wanted to attach a screenshot of what the images look like when I open them, but am not sure how to do that....

Posted an example on a webpage:
    http://home.uchicago.edu/~jltaylor/imghelp/index2.html
Burning a new DVD might be a possibility, but a little tricky. Its a public computer, so depending on how long it would take to burn the images (there are 199 of them) it could be possible. But I wonder if I would need to save them in a different format or with a different naming scheme - there are some special characters in the titles - since I can open them normally on the other computer?
I even tried importing into iPhoto on the other machine directly from the DVD with no problem. My machine is unable to read them without saving them from Preview first.

  • JPEGs locked in preview screen

I am transferring files from my PC to MacBook Pro using a seagate hard drive.  All my JPEGs are marked as locked in the preview screen.  ie the file name becomes IMG xxx - Locked, with a drop down arrow next to it which can then unlock the file.  When I `get info', the locked box is not checked and the file is read and write.  I notice that JPEGs I transferred using a USB thumb drive also show as locked.  Are JPEGs supposed to be locked?
My plan is to use iphoto for photo storage/organising and then periodically export to an external hard drive as required.  Is this hard drive suitable for storing mac files?
Am new to Mac so any help would be appreciated.  Would like to get my process correct now so that I dont have problems in thw future.
    Thanks

  • Opening multiple JPG's in Preview

I use Preview 5.0 a lot for opening everything from PDF's to JPG's and have had very few problems other than the occasional corrupted file. However, since going to SL I am unable to open multiple files at the same time consistently. I will select 5-10 JPGs, for example, and when I tell Preview to open them I will get one JPG in one frame then 2-3 in another frame, and the rest won't open at all.
I just noticed the same kind of behavior in Photoshop CS4 where I drag 3-4 JPG's to the app in order to open them and only one JPG will show up.
Very bizarre behavior. Has anyone else seen this and if so have you found a solution?
    TIA
    Nate

That was actually the first thing I checked. Making sure it was set to one of the first two options under the General section. Nothing worked until after selecting the "Open in 32-bit mode" checkbox. The only other thing that has changed was that I updated to iTunes 9.0 and my Remote Admin package. However, I do not see those as factors in this issue, currently. Though, on second thought, maybe one of those updated some library somewhere which ended up fixing the problem.
Like I said, bizarre, but at least it is working now.

  • Jpgs locked in bridge

I can't figure out why when I connect my camera to my computer, the jpgs are locked, with generic icons. I've read about raw files, but these are not raw files. They even have the .jpg extension. Any help?

    Is this a new thing?
You should ues a card reader rather than connecting your camera.  More reliable.
If you select all and right click you should see an option to "unlock".

  • .jpg file size preview quit working

Using CS5 extended (v.12.0.1x32) in Windows 7 Entp (64bit): My save-as dialog has quit showing a preview of .jpg file size regardless of where the quality slider is set.  This feature was working fine, and just seemed to quit.  Now all I get is the short, horizontal line in place of a number, and no matter how long I wait, no file size number appears.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    ACB

Thank you very much for the suggestion.  Unfortunately the problem persists.
Turning PS CS5 off and back on -- problem still present
Delete preferences file (via CTRL+SHIFT+ALT at startup) -- problem still present
Delete preferences file (xx...xx.psp) via search and delete -- problem still present
Reboot of OS -- problem still present
Roboot of OS, followed by steps above, followed by Reboot -- problem still present
Excellent idea... I hadn't thought of it; I wish it had worked.  I'm open to any other suggestions.
    Thanks,

  • Preview Problem when converting .jpg to .pdf

My scanner isn't producing sharp enough images, so I am:
    1. Saving the 300 dpi scanned file in .jpg format
    2. Opening the .jpg file in Preview.
    3. Sharpening the image.
    4. Saving the .jpg file as a .pdf file.
But Preview saves the .pdf file with huge dimensions (as though it had been scanned at 72 dpi instead of 300 dpi). So when I open the file in Acrobat, to OCR it, Acrobat thinks the file is huge (over 30" wide and over 40" tall) and the OCR chokes with a message that the page dimensions are too big. Obviously I could simply resave the sharpened .jpg file in .jpg format, and use Acrobat to convert it to PDF, which gives it the correct page dimensions. But the sharpened .pdf file looks better on screen when created by Preview. Is there any way to convert the .jpg file to .pdf within Preview which will keep the correct page size information? (Or, as a last resort, is there a Mac utility which will resize PDF dimensions?)

Hi Bruce, and a warm welcome to the forums!
You can create a Colorsync Filter to save a PDF/x-3 at your chosen resolution...

  • Image preview thumbnails suddenly not displaying: just generic .jpg

I have a series of folders containign images. I surf through them all the time using the Finder in Icon mode, where I can see the image itself as the thumbnail.
For some reason now all I'm getting is the generic file format image (in this case, .jpg), with no "preview". This is happening for all images in all folders.
Can anyone explain why this might be happening? Thanks!

yea, mine doesn't show previews or let me import, it keeps crashing on import and i have not used it since before the update. i repaired permissions, dunno what that would do tho. I tried using iphoto, but i dunno if my camera imports into it. however, the previews don't show up in iphoto either. so there is definitely an issue.

  • Preview.app in Snow Leopard doesn't open some jpg files

Preview.app in Snow Leopard doesn't open some jpg files.
Preview does't issue an error message, it behaves as I did't try to open file at all.
These images could be easy opened in iPhoto, so files seem to be OK.
I couldn't attach one such example image to this message, it's exceeds 2mb limit, but courtesy to google image could be downloaded by the link https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B56gs1tsb9aNYjA2MDdmNzUtOWY3NS00ODg1LWIzZDAtYTA 5YzFjZmZjYjRh&hl=en_US.
    What's that? Should I file a bug?
    Valeriy

Unfortunately, it sounds as if your internal disk failed (hardware failure).
    Things to try:
    (1) Boot from your Apple Hardware Test CD/DVD, which sometimes is a separate disk or sometimes is on the original OS install disk. Run the tests, all of them, to see what is amiss.
    (2) Reset PRAM as described in  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 . I don't think this is likely to help because even though your startup disk is not being selected, it seems that your internal disk is simply unable to be found or mounted, implying hardware failure more than software. But it's worth a try.
Probably time to take your computer in for repairs, either at the Apple Store or to an authorized Apple repair shop. Most likely they will simply replace your drive. You could also ask them to mount the old drive in an enclosure to see if files can be copied from it if you don't have a backup.

  • Preview doesn't show JPG files

I keep having problems viewing JPG files in Preview. The image displays in the Finder, it displays in the thumbnail view for 'Downloads" and it will even appear in the sidebar for Preview if I choose to show the sidebar, but it does not appear in the Preview main window.
I tried deleting the com.apple.Preview.plist file as recommended in an old thread, but it didn't help.
    ideas?

  • AP 2 and Sony A700 embedded JPG Quick Previews?

The Sony A700 RAW and cRAW images contain an embedded high quality JPG image designed for viewing on HDTV. If the camera is set to 3:2 aspect ratio it is 1616 x 1080 pixels (and if set to 16:9 then it is 1920 x 1080).
Aperture 2.0 does not appear to make any use of these large embedded JPGs in Quick Preview even though I have selected " Use embedded JPG from camera if possible".
It is not clear if this could be forced by limiting the size of previews to either slightly smaller than or larger than the size of the embedded JPGs from the camera?

Does anyone know an answer to this question? I'm using the Aperture 2 trial and I like the software for cataloging but since I'll use Capture NX for most of my editing it would be great if I could get Aperture to display the embedded jpg in preview mode. But it doesn't. I've checked that box in the Preferences. I've deleted the previews for the project. I've made sure that Maintain Previews isn't checked. But I still don't get the embedded jpg in preview.
By the way, I know what the embedded jpg should look like since it does display properly when importing into Aperture.
    Any help appreciated.
    David
