Jpg won't open from Explorer in Photoshop

So odd...
After I deleted CS4, I can't seem to open a jpg image from Windows Explorer in Photoshop! Even if I do a "Open With", Photoshop is not an option, and even if I browse to the correct Photoshop exe (CS5 64), it will not open in Photoshop. However, .psd files will open directly into Photoshop!
Should I re-install Photoshop (ouch) or is there an easy registry hack??
thanks

You "un-associated" things when removing CS4. Since the installers don't know about each other, this happens with "ambiguous" file types that in theory could belong to different programs. PSD is unique, so it sticks. I see no problem in running the CS5 instalelr again, though. Unlike in the past, this is really a safe operation and pretty quick. Should not take more than 10 minutes for PS alone, but may of course take longer with a suite install.

  • Safari won't open from dock after upgrading to leopard

I've upgraded from OS X 10.4.11 Tiger to OS X 10.5.2 Leopard with the upgrade DVD which arrived today and all the available Software Updates (which included a Safari update). No more Software Updates are available - I've checked.
Safari and Mail will now not open from the Dock. Neither will iChat, AddressBook, iDVD (which produces a pop-up saying it "quit unexpectedly" - it didn't appear to start at all), and iCal. Safari and Mail WILL open from my Applications folder thankfully. I haven't checked the other mentioned applications, except iDVD which does the same non-opening with pop-up from Applications too.
I have run permissions verification and permissions repair from Disc Utility on the Mac HD. I have run disc verification from there too and the result said the disc appears OK. Neither solved the Dock problem.
The icons in the Dock don't bounce or anything. They remain still and un-animated. I just get a pop-up message saying "You cannot use the application "Safari.app" with this version of Mac OS X". Which surprises me as it's a native Apple Mac application isn't it? Obviously it says "Mail.app" for mail, "iChat.app" for iChat etc.
I reinserted the Leopard installation DVD and installed all the applications from the Optional Install.mpkg folder, including Safari and Mail. This has made no noticeable difference: they still won't open from the dock. I have just noticed that an additional icon for Safari appears at the far (right hand) end of the dock when I open it from Applications. But it disappears when I close Safari, so no good for opening it.
It could be worse, I can actually open some of the applications from my Applications folder. But this is inconvenient and besides, it is supposed to work from the Dock.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Can anyone help me to solve it please?
I have backed-up (not using time machine - I backed-up before I upgraded). I hope to avoid having to erase and reinstall but I will IF that will solve this problem (and not cause any others
    Help please. Thanks.

    Hi
Dock icons are simply alias. The ones on your dock may be corrupted, especially since you can open Safari from the applications folder. To remove an icon, right click on it and select "remove from dock", or simply drag it off the dock, where it will disappear in a puff of virtual smoke.
Then, go to the Finder and single-click/hold any item you want on the dock. Drag it there.
Try Safari or the other apps again.
Specific to the Leopard upgrade, important any 3rd party items installed in your system are Leopard compatible, otherwise you'll have operational problems when using them.
One other thought. It is possible the Dock is corrupted, causing the problem. If the above does not resolve the problem, go to the Finder: Your User Account>Library>Preferences folder. There, move the com.apple.dock.plist and com.apple.dock.db files to the desktop, then relaunch the Finder (hold down the option/command/esc keys to reveal the Quit Panel. Select the Finder>relaunch.

  • Elements 13 won't open from iphoto

Elements 13 won't open from iphoto. I have gone in Preferences/Advanced/ and changed the Edit photos to Elements 13.

a single user license entitles the user to install and activate on up-to two computers.  but that license doesn't really permit that 2nd installation to be used by another person.
so, if you son was the user on your computer he could sign in using his adobe id on your computer and use pse on your computer (as well as his own -  but not both computers at any one time).
if a 2nd user (you) wanted to use pse, they should purchase their own license.

  • System Prefs won't open from Apple Menu

    Ay, ay, ay.
    Gigabit G4, Tiger
I couldn't get rid of the blue label on Applications/System Preferences so I created an "archive" of it, tossed the original in the trash and opened the archive. The renewed Sys Prefs gave me permission to change the label, but now it won't open from the apple menu. I guess its an alias there. Where would it be? How to fix it?

    Hi,
In some cases "newer" version of an App will not run on Older OS software.
For instance Leopard's iChat 4 will not run in Tiger.
You say a clean install and do not say if you moved your Home Folder Contents back.
Your Mail would have been in there as would the Address Book info.
However related to the first item, you may have issues getting the older Tiger apps to read documents/Databases created by the newer Apps in Leopard.

  • Calendar won't open from dock or applications

I downloaded Mavericks--calendar won't open from dock or applications--help please

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Hi, my mail won't open from my dock on my mac and it won't quit so I can't restart. Anyone help?

Hi, my mail won't open from my dock on my mac and it won't quit so I can't restart. Anyone help?

    Hello ward886,
Thank you for the question.  It sounds like Mail is unresponsive, and you are unable to access it or restart your system.  In a situation like this, I recommend force quitting Mail and restarting your computer.
Use one of the following methods to force Mail to quit:
Using the Force Quit feature of OS X makes an application close, even when it is not responsive.
Important: Normally you should not need to force quit an app to close it. When an app is forced to quit, any unsaved changes to open documents are not saved, so try these methods to normally close the app first:
Choose Quit from the app menu. For example, in Safari, choose Safari > Quit Safari.
Choose Quit by right-clicking or control-clicking on an app's icon in the Dock.
If your app does not close using the steps above, use any of these steps to force the app to quit:
Switch to another app, such as the Finder, then choose Force Quit from the Apple menu. Select the unresponsive app in the Force Quit window, and click Force Quit.
Press Command-Option-Esc, then select the unresponsive app from the Force Quit window that appears, and click Force Quit.
Hold down the Control and Option keys on your keyboard, and click the icon of the unresponsive app in the Dock. Select Force Quit from the menu that appears.
Open Activity Monitor from the Utilities folder or the Spotlight menu. Select the unresponsive app in the Activity monitor window. Choose Quit Process from the View menu, or click the Force Quit button in the toolbar of the Activity Monitor window.
If you cannot switch from the unresponsive app, press Command-Option-Shift-Esc for three seconds to force it to quit. This key combination tells OS X to force quit the frontmost app.

  • Photoshop won't open from develop

I have 3 catalogs and PS3 will not open from the raw files on one of them.  If I export the file as a jpg it works so ifigured itwas a memory problem but it is working from the other 2 catalogs so it seems like a bug. I am using a Mc Prp and 10.4.11OS. i was planning an upgrade to Leapord and CS4 in January if you think that might solve the problem!

If you did an update install you are missing this:
    "/Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types"
If you still have your Previous System folder around just copy the ScriptingAdditions folder and its one file into your new root Library folder. If you disposed of it you download the "AdobeUnitTypes" file from HERE. Unzip, create the folder and put the file in it.
Or you can always reinstall Photoshop....

  • Canon 7D Mark II files won't open in bridge or photoshop

I am using photoshop CS5 and purchased a canon 7D Mark II and my files won't open. I updated to the photoshop 8.7.1 and my files still won't open. How do I fix this?

Assuming you mean ACR (Adobe Camera Raw plug-in) 8.7.1, not "Photoshop" what you write makes no sense.
ACR 8.7.1 needs at least CS6 to run.  You will never be able to open your raw files from that camera directly in CS5.  There will be no further updates for the obsolete, unsupported CS5 applications.
You have to go the free, stand alone Adobe DNG Converter 8.7.1.  Locate it, download it, install it and then launch and run it on ever folder of raw files to convert them to raw DNGs you can then open in your CS5 setup.

  • Lightroom won't open an image in Photoshop CS2

I have Photoshop 1.1 on a PC running Windows XP. I can't open a Lightroom image in Photoshop CS2 through the "photo" menu because the menu selection to open an image in Photoshop is dimmed. Also in "Preferences" in the "external editors" tab it says "Photoshop not found." My Photoshop is on the same drive as Lightroom. Am I wrong in assuming LR should open an image in CS2?
In a related matter I opened a Photoshop customer support case about this, but did not receive a reply. Is this typical of Adobe? Isn't this the kind of question they should answer even without a paid support plan?

    Richard,
What I did when faced with a similar situation was to go to Control Panel, and select Add or Remove Programs, then select Uninstall or Change for Adobe Photoshop CS2, then when prompted whether to Uninstall or Repair, choose Repair. This will fixup all the registry entries that appare to be missing from your system.
    Works for me at least.

  • Flash Application for Mac won't open from DVD disc

I've created a Flash application for a Mac and I have the latest security fix/update for Flash (that was supposed to fix Flash Players and etc.). I've burned the file onto a CD and a DVD. The file plays/opens from the CD but it won't play from the DVD.
Has anyone run into this before?

Well I found some sort of solution. I was burning both discs from a PC. I finally burned the DVD from a Mac and now it works!

  • ITunes won't open from dock or apps

When I click on the iTunes icon on the dock, it bounces once (sometimes twice), then stops bouncing and nothing opens. I tried opening from the application folder and nothing. I tried downloading the most recent version, but then I can't open the .dmg file in order to install (the files flashes like usual, but then nothing opens up).
It's not just iTunes acting like this-- Safari and iChat are acting the same way. Software Update won't open either. Other programs such as Firefox, quicktime, Word, etc, are fine.
My Norton Antivirus was expired and I downloaded an upgrade today-- but that .dmg file won't open either! I ran a virus scan anyway with the old Norton, and it didn't find anything.....
Things started acting up after I did a software update the other day. Now, when I plug in a memory stick or external hard drive (Lacie), they won't show up on the desktop, but if I restart with them already plugged in, they show up. The iTunes trouble started today when I restarted in order to access my external hard drive (it was fine this morning before I restarted!)
I think I covered all bases.... Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I would first try to Repair Permissions under Disk Utility. If that doesn't help, you might to post over in the Tiger forum, as this is obviously more than an iTunes issue. You might also try logging in and launching an app *under a different user account*. That could help narrow down the cause of the problem.

  • Won't open from desktop, start menu or anywhere else since I got the newest version.

For the last few weeks, since I got the newest version of Firefox, I've been experiencing more an more problems with it. Now, I can't even get to open from the desktop or the start menu. I never had problems with it before the new version, now I've had to revert back to IE to get on the net. Any suggestions? I read thru previous comments but couldn't find anything like this.

I don't know whom to thank first-- b noir for telling me about the Lorraine fix or Lorraine for figuring out the fix. THE LORRAINE FIX WORKED FOR ME!!! (I feel a little like I am advertising "Hooked on Phonics" with that last line!)
Thank you doesn't say it strongly enough, but THANK YOU b noir and Lorraine for your help. I was to the boiling point last night and starting to get there tonight. Now I am resting easy and thankful that there is a community of computer users out there who care enough to troubleshoot problems together and work together to figure out a solution--and then to take the time to post and share information.
I would STRONGLY suggest that anyone who is having the iTunes issues where iTunes just plain won't open at all after downloading the newest version and has a pc with Norton Internet Security 2005 try the "Lorraine Method."
I am so happy I think I might sing. Or not--I will let my songs on iTunes do the singing for me now that I can again!!!!!!!
And to those still looking for answers--be patient--I now know how incredibly frustrating this can be and I hope that you all find your solutions very very soon!!
