Jpgs locked in bridge

I can't figure out why when I connect my camera to my computer, the jpgs are locked, with generic icons. I've read about raw files, but these are not raw files. They even have the .jpg extension. Any help?

Is this a new thing?
You should ues a card reader rather than connecting your camera.  More reliable.
If you select all and right click you should see an option to "unlock".

    From the Finder menu select 'Secure Empty Trash'. If this or the suggestion above doesn't resolve the problem take a look at the various suggestions in this link:

  • Open JPG files with Bridge RAW by double clicking?

    I am using CS4 Bridge 3.0.0.0.464
    When I double click on a JPG file it opens in Photoshop.
    I prefer to edit my JPG files with Bridge camera RAW.
    At present, I have to right-click and choose 'open in camera RAW'.
    Is there a workaround for this?

    You're all over the map with that description, perhaps assuming some things are coupled that are not, normally (Camera Raw, Smart Object, Crop).
    Start with the basics:  There is a Camera Raw preference that determines whether JPEGs and TIFFs will be opened by default through Camera Raw by default.  It's important to note that once you have opened a file with Camera Raw, metadata is stored so that it will open that same way every time, so these settings apply to JPEG or TIFF images that haven't been opened before.
    In Photoshop, click Edit - Preferences - Camera Raw...
    Note the settings below:

  • Camera Raw won't open certain JPG files from Bridge, others open in ACR with no problem.

    Edit: This was orignally posted in the Photoshop > Macintosh forum, which I failed to realize was read only. Thanks to a PM headsup, I'm reposting it here. Thanks
    I've searched the internet and the Adobe forums and cannot find a direct answer to what I'm dealing with.
    The issue I am having is that Bridge CS5 (current version 4.0.5.11) will open some JPG images in Raw with no problem and others nothing happens at all. All the images come from the same source (Fujifilm Frontier SP2000) so I really don't understand why Bridge ignores some of them as being openable in RAW. For example, say this roll of film has 36 images. If I "Select All", right click, and select "Open in Camera Raw", it will open whichever it deems acceptable in RAW and nothing happens at all to the others (The RAW dialog will, for instance, only open 10 images instead of all 36, and the remaining images are not altered in any way).
    I've made sure that Photoshop is prefering Adobe Camera Raw with Supported Raw Files and in Camera Raw Preferences I have the box ticked to Automatically open JPGs with Settings but nothing helps.
    My work around is to one file at a time in the Photoshop Open dialog, selecting an affected JPG file and have it open them as Camera Raw instead of Jpeg.
    Any ideas? It's done this for quite a while and I have no idea how to fix it.
    Thanks.

  • Images now locked, says Bridge; won't open photo

    I have a fairly new w7 64 bit HP which has been doing fine with Bridge & CS4 until recently. I can load raw photos from SD to a folder on an external HD but when I try to open a photo in Bridge, the computer tells the the photo is Locked. Use Windows Explorer to alter Permissions. In W. Explorer, I've tried to set everything to Allow - but to no avail. Bridge still declares the photos to be Locked.
    On a camera list, someone suggested that Version Cue may be interfering. I don't know, I'm the only person who uses the now Bridge-CS4-faulty computer so I don't need fancy protections with arcane switches hard to find.
    Is there a direct way to remove the Lock on all photos, on all directories on the external HD? Meanwhile, Bridge and CS4 have become useless.
    As might be surmised, I'm not a happy camper.

    I should have mentionted that the Lock message was generated by both Bridge and CS4. Apparently, this problem created by the Bridge./CS4 Windows 7 interaction has to do with scratch disks. I've for many years always used an external HD scratch disk - didn't have the Locked problem until Windows 7 running CS4 and its components.
    DPREview has a solution that worked when Bridge and when CS4 opened a file that had been locked.

  • SOLVED: inaccurate JPG previews in Bridge

    Just wanted to share my success story in case this helps somebody. I normally shoot RAW, and I convert to JPG with ACR and Photoshop. For a long time I've been aggravated that my JPG images often are incorrect in Bridge thumbnails or previews. While sometimes they are spot on, they frequently have dramatic changes in contrast or brightness. The brightness issue is particularly aggravating because the images typically get too bright, and highlights get blown out.
    Just to clarify what I mean by "incorrect", I mean that the exact same JPG files look perfect when opened in Photoshop, Windows Explorer, or any other 3rd party application. I was only seeing the shift in brightness/contrast inside Bridge. High-quality thumbnails were turned on in Preferences, too, so quality was not the problem. I basically had given up and resorted to using Photoshop, Explorer, a web browser, or other tools to judge the final quality of my JPGs.
    I knew the problem was not a figment of my imagination today when an out-of-the-camera JPG file that was HEAVILY underexposed (intentionally) appeared in Bridge looking perfectly bright.
    So that inspired me to dig deeper and solve the problem. My Bridge preferences had "Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for TIFF and JPEG Images" enabled. My ACR defaults include the "auto" setting for exposure. So ACR was actually generating the previews for my JPG files, rather than Bridge. And in the process, it was resetting the images to what it thought was the correct auto exposure!
    By disabling "Prefer Adobe Camera Raw" and clearing my cache, all my previews and thumbnails have gone back to being perfect - exactly what is contained in the JPG file. What a relief!
    By the way, this was all in CS3, but I had the same problem in the CS4 trial. Presumably the same solution works in CS4.
    Hope this helps somebody out there. I realize this issue has probably been covered in this forum before but I couldn't find it in search results.

    Don - well first, just to reiterate, it was never my intent to use ACR whatsoever for processing my already-processed JPG files. As to using "auto" as a default for my RAW file processing, I do it because it minimizes the amount of tweaking I need to do subsequently. I virtually never leave the settings untouched, but I find auto is a convenient starting point.
    Exposure: auto usually agrees exactly with where I would be setting it (which is normally 0 unless I botched the exposure on the shot.. if auto doesn't say 0 I take a careful look at why).
    Contrast: I actually tend to like the auto contrast ACR comes up with and don't change it on too many of my shots.
    Black point: again, almost always ACR sets it exactly where I would have. Sometimes it is willing to clip a little more black than I would like, so I scale it back.
    Brightness: I usually hate ACR's auto brightness so I change this on virtually all of my photos and pull it down quite a bit. However, there is no "standard" setting that is correct for all my photos, so as far as I'm concerned, "Auto" is as good a bet as anything as a starting point.
    Am I working inefficiently? What would you recommend I do for my ACR defaults on that tab?
    (sorry this is getting off-topic from the original post...)

  • Nikon D80 JPGs and PS3 Bridge metadata editing

    PS3 Bridge will show thumbnails of Nikon D80 JPGs, but will not allow editing or additions to Metadata to be saved in Bridge.  PhotoShop CS3 will allow adding, editing and saving metadata in the File Info section, but I can't edit it with Bridge.
    Yeah, I need to upgrade to CS4, but can't get the bean counters to sign off on it!

    Workaround.  I created a metadata template in PS3 and Saved it.  Then created an action that applied the template to the image in PS3 and saved the action.  Then I went to Bridge and selected all the files and ran a batch on all of them that ran the action and saved the file.  Now each file has the metadata common to them all in the metadata when looking at them in Bridge AND they can all have unique metadate ID added and saved in Bridge.

  • How To Remove .jpg extensions in Bridge Galleries

    I am not sure why Adobe Bridge, which created Flash Galleries keeps .jpg extensions in the file name, but I would like to remove them.
    This was never an issue in versions prior to CS 5.5.
    When I open flash and try to remove the .jpg extension the files are not recognized by Bridge any longer.
    What's even worse, is once the Flash Gallery is created in the htm file, the .jpg extensions still remain in the name portion. Kinda dumb since the photos are now part of an htm Flash Gallery, and no longer a .jpg file.
    Is there any work around this?
    Thanks in advance.

    One way I found to remove the file extension was to modify the group.xml file located in the resources folder.  In that file you will find the folowing code for each image within the gallery:
    For each image you should get the following code similar to this:
    <item>
            <title>5 May Cruisers v Jets 2 1.JPG</title>
            <description />
            <metadata></metadata>
            <photographer></photographer>
            <copyright></copyright>
            <imageId image='' dbtype='' dbname='' />
            <mediaType category='image' format='jpeg' />
            <renditions>
                <rendition src='images/large/_4124014343.jpg' height='666' width='1000' size='large' />
                <rendition src='images/medium/_4124014343.jpg' height='666' width='1000' size='medium' />
                <rendition src='images/thumb/_4124014343.jpg' height='16' width='24' size='thumb' />
            </renditions>
        </item>
    If you  remove the .JPG extension within the <title></title> tags  the gallery will display the name without it. HOWEVER the kicker for me at the moment is that it will only display as it should when testing locally. As soon as I upload to my web page server the images will not display. All other info such as site name, gallery name, styles etc. display correctly.
    I'm at a loss as to why changing the title causes it to fail when uploaded yet works as it should locally.

  • Jpg locked in preview

    jpg is locked in preview.  In Get Info it is not locked. how to unlock.

    Try using the chflags in terminal.
    Open terminal and type sudo chflags nouchg followed by a space.  Then drag the file into the terminal window.  You should have a line that looks something like the following:
    sudo chflags nouchg /path/to/file
    where /path/to/file is the pathname to the file.  Hit return.  You will be promted for your administrator password.  Type it in (it will not be echoed on the terminal).
    See if the file is unlocked now.
    If this works the question would be where did the file come from and how the uchg flag got set in the first place.

  • Bridge corrupts jpg metadata when applying metadata template (no preview in Finder)

    Hi,
    Since a short while I found that applying one of my metadata templates (copyright etc.) to .jpgs in Adobe Bridge CC corrupts the metadata. What's seen is that the preview thumbnails in Finder disappear (change to jpg-logo), and there's no other way to get them back then by stripping all the metadata (I used ImageOptim).
    The weird thing is, it only affects jpgs that are rendered straight from Capture One Pro 8. Pics in .jpg that are rendered by Photoshop CC don't go corrupt.

    Are you referring to the 3-letter ".jpg" extension being deleted?  You can't do that, of course!  If that is still the case, you'll have to add it manually to each JPEG file.

  • I cannot open JPG images in Camera RAW from Bridge or via "Open as" facility in Photoshop

    I am going crazy with Photoshop CC!!! I have been using Photoshop CC and Bridge CC since Feb 2014 and have a recurring problem, which comes back periodically after having been fixed with the aid of the Adobe Help Chat facility. Today the Chat facility is not on-line, so in desperation I'm hoping someone in the Community can help me.
    When I try to open a JPG file in Bridge I get the message "Bridge's parent application is not active. Bridge requires that aqualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature".
    When I try to open a JPG file in Photoshop using the "Open As" facility, I get the message "Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file".
    I am running CC on a Dell laptop under Windows 7 64-bit.
    Can anyone help me please?
    Ian McFarlane

    I should add that JPGs edited with ACR usually need to be writable for ACR to be able to store the adjustment-settings inside themselves.  RAW files typically use an XMP sidecar to store settings, but JPGs typically don't.
    If the files weren't read/write then ACR would have no way to store the adjustments in them and so is smart enough to not make them available for editing.
    The other hint is that if you copy the files to your desktop--where the permissions are likely to be more friendly, they work.
    To check the permissions, right-click on one of the files in Explorer, select Properties from the context menu and look at the Security tab.  Look at the various user-groups, like Users, Authenticated Users, Administrators, etc, and see what access each has to one oft he problem files, and then to one of the files that works ok.
    You might also check the Effective Rights of a particular user to a particular file by clicking on the Advanced button in the Security tab.  Here is an example where I show only Read + Read & Execute access to an NEF for general users, but when I check my own logged in User (steve) I have Full Control which includes all the other access privileges, and this is either because I'm in the Administrators group or I am the owner, I'm not sure.  It is possible that Bridge or Photoshop is running in a user context other than your logged in user, or it's possible that another user accessed the files and changed the permissions to them.

  • Bridge won't open JPG files in Photoshop CS3

    I changed my preferences to remove the check-box "prefer Adobe camera RAW for Jpeg and TIFF files" , restarted Bridge and tried to open a JPEG from bridge directly into photoshop. But double clicking on the image in bridge opened "paint".
    So I change the Bridge preferences back to Prefer ACR for JPEG again, restart Bridge, and then bridge tells me that it cannot find Photoshop CS2. CS2 is not even loaded on this machine anymore.
    So then I go to the file type associations preferences and "browse" to the CS3 version of photoshop, restart bridge, and double click on a JPEG and it again says that CS2 cannot be found. I change the association again using the "browse" to CS3 and then it opens the image up in "Paint" again.
    Why won't Bridge open JPEG's in ACR anymore?
    Why won't bridge open JPEG's in Photoshop CS3 anymore?

    Bill, thanks for the reply. But I do not think that the file associations is the answer here. If I am using bridge to open files in ACR or Photoshop, I do not believe that I need to change the windows file type association. I have other PC's where the file association is not photoshop and bridge works fine opening these files. In fact, when using windows explorer to navigate JPG files, I do NOT want photoshop being opened to preview these images. On my other PC's, I can both preview JPG's using windows picture viewer, and open the JPG's via bridge in ACR. Furthermore, Photoshop CS2 is NOT the application listed for JPG's in the folder options in the control panel. So the problem that I have here has something to do with Bridge or perhaps something is corrupted int he files.
    The reason why I suspect a corruption, is that not all files behave in the same manner in bridge. Some files with the same extension open as I would expect, while others do not. I did not realize this fact when I made my original post.

  • Color Cast Only On Mac Generated jpg files When Viewed In Bridge Cs3 Preview

    Hi,
    ( Issue With Cs3 Bridge Viewing Jpgs - Getting Colour Cast on the Mac Generated Jpgs Files Only When Viewed In Bridge Cs3 On PC )
    Using  CS3 creative suite Mac & PC and viewing all files on the PC.
    We have  psd files when viewing in bridge they are  ok and save jpgs via PS3 both on the Mac & PC off the same PSD file that we started with.
    But when viewing these jpg files in bridge we get a red cast only when viewing from the Mac generated files from the same PSD we started with.
    When we open the jpg files up in Photoshop all of them are ok we no issues only when viewing in bridge we get the red cast.
    All PSD files have the same information content:
    Bit depth
    Colour space
    Pixel size
    Why are we getting this happening.
    Thnx

    Thanks very much for that lead, NormanPCN. I do have Auto Tone checked, though the rendered files in the example above do not have XMP sidecars. I will try unchecking Auto Tone even so, and post back when I see what happens.
    Thanks again,
    Kieren
    EDIT: Bingo! I took Auto Tone off in ACR Preferences (in Bridge) and the non-RAW files immediately regenerated thumbs and previews. They now are indistinguishable from the PSD. There is still the very slight difference which I mentioned between the PSD and the CR2. While that seems odd, it is small enough to be relatively trivial.
    Many thanks!
