JPGs not displayed in Properties

In the RoboHelp Project Manager (version 7.01.001), you can
double-click on an Image (or right-click and select Properties). If
the image is a BMP a preview will be displayed; if it is a PNG you
see the message "File format not supported". So far so good.
But some JPGs display OK, some give the message. A quick
check suggests that it is the presence of camera properties in the
JPG; depending on the tool used to crop and/or resize a photograph,
the camera properties may be removed or retained, and RoboHelp
seems to be unable to handle those JPGs with camera properties.
Has anyone else seen this? is it known to Adobe?

The problem seems to be related to the EXIF data, used by
digital cameras to record aperture, exposure and so on. Robohelp's
preview in Image Properties, General tab, will not display JPG
files with EXIF data.
Adobe have been notified but we do not know when a fix will
be available.
Some image manipulation programs pass the EXIF data through
untouched; some (older ones) may remove or corrupt the data.
Microsoft Photo Editor (part of Office 2000) removes EXIF, Paint
(part of Windows) passes EXIF data through, but if there is no EXIF
entry Paint adds a small one.
This means that if you use Paint on JPEG images for Robohelp
you will lose the preview facility. Also if you use any modern
image manipulation program on photos from a digital camera you will
probably have no preview.
There are tools which remove EXIF data; I did a quick test
with PureJPEG from yafla.com and results were encouraging. But I
don't intend to use freeware on a live project without further
testing. Does anyone out there have recommendations for safely
removing EXIF data?

  • MIME object/Image(JPG) not displayed in the WAD template

    Hello all,
I uploaded a .JPG file to mime repository. I used that object my WAD template. When i excute the Temapate, image file is not displayed just showing X mark.
But i am able to open/see the file from the mime repository.
What could be the problem? please let me know.

    Hi Anil,
Thanks for your reply. I have found the problem.
Imaage that i have kept in mime belongs to https protocol. BSP application with SSL, needs https to execute in the browser.
when i execute the template, by default WAD is using http protocol, so the image is not displaying, when i use https, the image is being displayed in the WAD output.

  • Png or jpg not displaying in BC email marketing

I'm dropping both pngs and jpgs into BC's email marketing tool. For some reason, they display correctly in BC, but when I send a test email out to myself, the images do not display. Help!

Spaces and funny characters in file names on the web is basically something to NOT do.
A few browsers, coding solutions, API work, Email clients can all be effected by this and cause rendering issues. Just stick to the lower case, no spaces or character rule on file names.
Also avoid scaling the images in the editor - May look good and may come out in some email clients but some like Outlook will keep the image size as its natural size and emails will come out not as you expect because of this.

  • PDF created using Java iText package - Text not editable and not displaying font properties on Acrobat

    Hi,
I have an issue in editing the text and viewing the font properties of a text region on a PDF created using Java iText package.
I use Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended and the option Tools -> Advanced Editing -> TouchUp Text Tool.
The strange behaviour is that, I have 2 PDFs created out of the same base PDF and text added via Java iText package with the same Text, Font and other properties.
One of the PDF has the text region editable on Acrobat but the other one has the text region which is not editable.
But both the PDFs are editable via Adobe Illustrator.
I have attached both the PDFs for your reference
    PDF_Editable.pdf - Editable on Acrobat
    PDF_Not Editable.pdf - Not Editable on Acrobat
Any help or insight to find out the difference/issue with the PDF which is not editable via Acrobat would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

You don't have direct control of the leading of a multiline text field. A common approach is to control the background color of the field with JavaScript since the lines are not really needed when the field is used in Reader/Acrobat. They may be useful when using the form by hand. For more information, see the posts by Max in this topic: http://acrobatusers.com/forum/forms-acrobat/how-do-i-use-multi-lined-text-fields-over-prin ted-line-area-existing-form

  • CMYK JPGs not displaying correctly?

    Hello,
I receive (and send) a large number of CMYK JPGs via mail.app (OS 10.4.6) and they never seem to display correctly. I did a test with a JPG in CMYK and the same image in RGB and the RGB JPG displays fine. But the CMYK image almost looks as though it's displaying a negative image (ie. whites are black, blacks are white, etc.).
    Has anyone experienced this?
    Is there a fix?
I'm unsure why mail.app seems to have a problem with these images when Safari and Preview can handle them just fine?
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

    Hello,
This is a known, and reported bug, and is a true negative view.. However, it is only a View in Place problem, as the file will properly open with a Photo application, either from the message, or when saved to the a directory.

  • JPGs not displaying properly in pdfs

I've created a vectored oval logo in Illustrator CS3. I've made a jpg version of it for my client to insert in Word docs. It's quite large so it's completely sharp when viewed in Photoshop but they say it appears jagged and cut off at the sides and bottom when they make a pdf from the Word doc. I immediately blamed Microsoft! However, I tried it myself by placing the logo at various sizes in InDesign CS3 and making a pdf of that and I am getting the same problem too. I tried making a smaller jpg so it could be placed at 100% but still the same problem. I've made the pdfs at different qualities too and have viewed them at different sizes on screen. If I place a pdf of the logo rather than a jpg, it appears smoother in the final pdf but still looks like it has been cut off at the edges. Any ideas how I can resolve this?!

Do you have a particularly old version of Word? According to
Microsoft at least, recent versions should be able to import EPS and
    print well to any printer.
The edges cut off seems a separate issue - perhaps strokes at the edge
of the design are outside its bounding box. Try putting a white box
behind the design, just slightly larger, to encourage Illustrator to
    include the very edges.

  • JPG images not displayed correctly in Bridge and Photoshop (Mac OS)

(Note: I have copied the content of this query from the Creative Suites forum where I originally opened it.)
I am using CS4 under OSX 10.4.11 on a PowerMac G5 Quad with 23" Apple cinema display. Images which have been captured as JPG are displayed fine by Preview, but when opened in Bridge, Camera Raw or Photoshop. the colours are all "washed out". The attached screen capture should give an idea of the difference, with the upper being Camera Raw (image settings) and the lower being Preview. My monitor has been calibrated and I'm using sRGB IEC61966-2.1 colour space in Camera Raw and Photoshop. The colours displayed by Preview are pretty close to "real life". I find it virtually impossible to adjust the colours in Photoshop to get back to anything similar.
After opening the image in Photoshop without adjustment, and Save As JPEG with embedded color profile, Preview displays the new image the same as Photoshop. Save As JPEG without embedded color profile, and Preview displays this copy just like the original. It seems that Photoshop is making different (incorrect) assumptions about what color space to use when there is no embedded color profile. Shouldn't it assume sRGB like virtually everything else (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SRGB)? Or is its interpretation of sRGB incorrect? How can I fix this?

…If there is someone out there who has experience of obtaining decent colour management in CS4 on a Power PC, I would really like to know how you achieved it.
That would be yours truly, and I hasten to reply because I may have some insights that can help you too.
Just get it it out of the way, here's my setup:
Photoshop 11.0.2 ("CS4"); VersionCue disabled and uninstalled.—2.5 GHz Power Mac (PPC) G5-Quad; 16GB RAM; mutant, flashed 550MHz nVidia GeForce 7800GTX 1,700MHz 512MB VRAM; ATTO ExpressPCI UL5D LP SCSI card; Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 and Leopard 10.5.8 boot drives; Spotblight, Dashboard and Time Machine permanently disabled; dual 22" CRT monitors; USB wireless 'n' available but connected to the Internet via wired Ethernet; 1 FW flatbed scanner; 2 SCSI scanners (one tabloid-size transparency scanner and a film scanner); various internal & external HDs; FW Epson 2200 and Ethernet Samsung ML-2850ND printers; 2 X Back-UPS RS 1500 XS units.
I can unambiguously and in good faith represent to you that my color management, from capture to print, is as spot-on as anyone with any kind of setup can hope to achieve.  Unequivocally and without qualifications.
Now, first things first:  Forget about trying to synchronize color management across the point applications lumped together only by Adobe marketing fiat into a variety of meaningless "creative suites".  Concentrate on Photoshop.  Do not try to use Bridge to synchronize anything.
The "suites" are a totally artificial construct created by Adobe bean counters and marketing types.  The point applications (i.e. the individual programs clumsily bundled together, e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) are developed independently by separate engineering teams that are not only not in the same building, but in different cities, different states of the American Union, and even in different countries.  They have very little communication among them, if any, as evidenced by repeated posts in these forums by Photoshop engineering staff urging us, the end users, to let the other teams know in their own forums that a given problem exists and is actually affecting our work.
Enough said about the cause of the problem.  The end result is that Color Management is at very, very different levels of progress and sophistication in each individual point application, with only Photoshop fully entitled to be considered state of the art.
Secondly, a disclaimer:  I have been hanging on to my CRT monitors and take care of them as Jascha Heifetz used to take care of his Stradivarius.  I don't know what I will do if I manage to outlive the usefulness and accuracy of my CRTs (unlikely at this point).  I have despaired in futile efforts to bring the luminosity of any LCD monitor down to where I would feel comfortable calibrating and profiling it.  I believe my monitors are the foundation of my color management efforts.
Especially if you have one of the extreme wide-gamut LCD or LED monitors, you'll face an uphill battle.
Be careful to avoid any version 4 icc profiles, whether canned or generated by your calibration software.  Stick to version2 icc profiles.  Ask the manufacturer of your calibration software/hardware if in doubt.
Here are some not-too-recent, but thoroughly representative screen shots of the calibration results I obtain with my monitors, which I calibrate and profile often and regularly (I validate the calibration at least several times per month).
In a nutshell, my color management practices and settings mirror those described by Bruce Fraser, Jeff Schewe, Andrew Rodney and Gary Ballard's site.  I have learned from all of them.
My working color space is ProPhoto RGB.  I choose to work with PSD and PSB files.  As a long-time, rabid JPEG hater, I only rarely deal with JPEGs, using them sporadically to illustrate a point in this forum or elsewhere in the web.  My main output consists of prints.
I only deal with tagged image files (files with an embedded color profile) and often recommend beating up with a baseball bat any moron that hands you an untagged file—figuratively of course, but I find the expression gets my point across unambiguously.
Following is a screen shot of some of my pertinent settings:
Note that I have never bought into the "suite" concept myself.  I do have and routinely use Adobe Illustrator 10.x, InDesign 2.x and Acrobat Professional 8.x, but they are all older, independent versions of each point application, licensed at different times.
Be further advised, that the answer to many problems offered by Adobe engineers often is not to install VersionCue, or uninstall it, or at least disable it.
Also, as outlined at the beginning of this post, concentrate on Photoshop, not on synchronizing applications that can't really communicate with each other, despite the claims of Adobe marketing hacks to the contrary.
One big caveat, do not fall into this trap:

…I believe my problem has nothing to do with my monitor profile, for several reasons, but…
…It seems extremely unlikely to me that…
You either want to learn, or you don't.  You either want to solve your problems, or you don't.
When you start arguing instead of studying, questioning advice instead of following it and detecting where you went wrong, you're on the right track to nowhere.  That attitude will get you there fast.  Remember you are the one with the problem, and only you can acquire the discipline to learn how to solve it.
Go ahead and ask me anything that is not clear, just don't argue with me please, and don't tell me why you think Fraser, Rodney, Ballard and I are wrong.  You see, I am not experiencing any problem that needs fixing.  I have an interest in helping you, but not in hearing about your speculations, theories or conclusions.
    Good luck.

  • JPG's not displaying full colour in Bridge

When I import the images from my Nikon D300s Camera into Photoshop Bridge CS4 the images seem to be a coldish blue color when browsing them, this has only happened with the newiMac 2013 that I have just purchased, it all works fine in my earlier iMac 2009 model, I have checked that the settings are the same as the earlie one and all seems to be ok, when I open them up in photoshop the color returns, I have set everything up as Adobe RGB even on the camera but still not right. I have tried Tiff's and they are fine in bridge same as the RAW files, it is just the jpgs that don't look right. has anyone got any ideas what is wrong. If I open them in Raw and touch them up then open them in photoshop and save them as PSD files they are fine. any idea's.

Here is a link to the site. The homepage doesn't have any
dynamic jpgs so you will have to click the '7 TranScan' button
(this is the bottom button within the menu down the right-hand
    side).
This will take you to the '7 Transcan' homepage where one of
the problem jpgs is not displaying. As you'll see it won't display
at all within Flash Player 8 but displays fine in Flash Player 9.

If you think you're insane now, try maintaining those pop up menus.
As far as I know, these menus have not been updated since FW 8, so
they are at least two versions old.
Save yourself a lot of grief by avoiding those menus. There are many
other products on the market which do a much better job of creating
and maintaining this type of navigation structure.
Read this link before you climb any higher on this slippery slope:
    http://apptools.com/rants/jsmenu.php
There was another blog post by the fellow who originally wrote the pop
up menu feature, but I can't seem to locate it. Even he says stay away
    from them.
Not the answer you probably want, but I hope it helps, nonetheless.

  • "Define query parameters" popup in Dataset properties - Refersh field, not displayed for Sps in SSDT 2010 (Works fine in BIDS)

When we upgraded our SSRs projects to 2012, we are facing an issue in Data tools environment.
When we click REFRESH FIELDS button in Dataset properties, With query type as SP (For all our sps), the "Define query parameters"  popup is not displayed.
When we checked the SQL Profiler for queries executed at back end , NULL values are used for parameters.
But when we Used the QUERY DESIGNER button, and clicked execute for sp, the popup comes.
For User defined Functions, the Popup comes correctly.
In BIDS, still we can open the RDLs and do the operations correctly
    Please advice

    Dear Wendy Fu
    My Scenario is different.
In Query Designer, Every thing is fine (Parameter Popup is coming, and fields are populated under data set)
But what we need to do is
1, Select Query Type As SP
    2, Select the required SP
    3, Click Refresh Button
    4, A "Define
    query parameters" window popsup
5, Provide values and click Ok
6, Fields will be populated under the dataset
The issue we face is that, we are not getting the  Define query parameters popup,
Hence NULL values are passed to execute the sp, to retrieve the fields set.
The Work around we are using now is editing the sp, and use
    set @Parameter = Value
for each parameters in sp, and then we get the fields populated under dataset, when we click refresh.
The issue exists in both  MSDT for
Visual studio 2010 &  MSDT for  Visual studio 2012.
But every thing is fine in BIDS with VS 2008 Shell for the same RDL

  • Some JPG images, stored in DB, do not display on screen/image item.

    Hi friends,
I have a form to save and retrieve images (JPG, GIF, TIF) to and from DB, using WEBUTIL_FILE_TRANSFER.CLIENT_TO_DB and CLIENT_IMAGE.WRITE_IMAGE_FILE respectively.
It’s working fine, but with few JPG images, it stores in DB but do not display on screen/image item.
Secondly, if I try to retrieve and write this JPG to OS (using CLIENT_IMAGE.WRITE_IMAGE_FILE), it prompts error “FRM-47101: Cannot write image file”.
    Environment:
    Forms [32 Bit] Version 10.1.2.0.2
    OS XP Pro 2002 SP3
    Oracle DB 11g Enterprise Edition Rel. 11.1.0.7.0 - 64bit
Any help will be highly appreciated.

    Hi,
I have done a workaround here, which worked for me.
My requirement is to direct save images in DB. So my system was just saving images without knowing if picture would display on form or not later.
I created a (non-DB) image item on form and added a code (CLIENT_IMAGE.READ_IMAGE_FILE) to place image in this image item, if it successfully display image then save image directly in DB using code (WEBUTIL_FILE_TRANSFER.CLIENT_TO_DB).
Note: - If CLIENT_IMAGE.READ_IMAGE_FILE fails it raises exception and it means image has invalid format/internal data header and system does not save image in DB.
Now I have a kind of a filter to stop saving pictures which do not display later on form. :)
