  • Do i need the POST-INSTALLATION configuration for linux+oracle?

    hello
i install the oracle10g on redhat9 box,JUST finish the installation,i open the Terminal windows, type ¨sqlplus¨ command, linux tell me ¨commnd not found¨. i guest the installer don´t set the env variable(in windows operating system, the installer automatically set the path variable during the install procedure).
i can SUCCESSFULLY access the browser console of em and isqlplus.
but after i restart the redhat, the browser can´t access both
em and isqlplus(connection reset).when i telnet the 5500 and 5560 port,i found that they haven´t be open.and i suspect that the oracle database haven´t been automatically started.
question 1:how can i MANUALLY start oracle after i restart the linux?
question 2:how can i config the oracle after the install to make it work perminently?or post-install configuration.
    thank you very much!

Oracle will not start automatically. You have to enter as oracle user and start the listener manually and then the database .
Command are like : lsnrctl start
Then , type svrmgrl ( the server manager console ) , connect internal , and then startup .
Later on you can write scripts for automatic startup of the database and listener .

  • J2EE installation program for Linux and tmpdir switch

    Hi !
the installation software tells me that it is short of space and i should try to use the
switch '-tmpdir' as for extracting files. i thought, well ok. no problem. so i refer the tmpdir
to a windows FAT partition. but the installation program still can't calculate the size of
newly assigned location and shows me the same error message. (it simply doesn't do the recalculation)
so i conclude that this '-tmpdir' is broken. later i tried to create a symlink and all kind of crazy tricks
but the installation program doesn't care at all. i should mention that during my installation i was operating
in a mounted FAT partition with a planty of place. the shortage of disk is constantly
reffering to my Linux partition without being aware of newly assigned location by -tmpdir.
btw, the windows partition has the ugo+rwx permission and i do everything as root.
a big thanks thanks for any help :-)

You are right - this option is broken (parameter you specify as alternative location is being disregarded). This is corresponding bug:
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4941449.html
One way you can workaround this is to unzip the distribution using unzip command into some temporary directory and then run setup command to start install wizard.

  • Informatica 8 installation procedure for linux

    Hi,
Can anybody provide me the installation procedure of informatica 8 on linux

It is essentially the same as on Windows. This release is a vast improvement over 7.1.4.
All you need is in the install guide. Even though it is not so environmentally friendly you will be well served to print the entire installation chapter.

  • Oracle 9i AS 1.0.2.2.2 for Linux - Installation Media?

    Hi all,
I am trying to locate a copy of the Oracle 9i Application Server version 1.0.2.2.2 installation media for Linux. I appreciate that it’s an ancient version but we still use 6i forms and the version of the installation media I have is corrupt and I need to do a fresh install.
I’ve tried the obvious places like Metalink / Oracle eDelivery etc to try and download a copy but it’s obviously too old to be available on there. Is there anywhere else I can source it - for example does anyone know if it is part of another Oracle suite e.g. 11i?
    Many Thanks

Oracle's Software Delivery Cloud as well as OTN tend to provide versions for which error correction support is still offerend. As error correction support is not offered for the AS 1.0.2.2.2 version anymore, it is not available through these channels anymore.
You can request a physical media shipment from Oracle, check My Oracle Support document [url https://support.us.oracle.com/oip/faces/secure/km/DocumentDisplay.jspx?id=1071023.1]1071023.1, "How to Request Physical Shipment or FTP download of Software Media" for details.

KarthikRather than paying for Red Hat, why not use Oracle Linux? You want 5.5 or 5.7. Not 6, as it is not certified with Oracle products.
Where are you going to be installing Linux? Bare metal (physical installation) or virtual, using either VMware or VirtualBox? I'm running several Oracle Linux servers under VMworksation 7.1. There are some difficulties getting VMware tools to install on Linux 5.7, so I continue to use 5.5, which is fine for my purposes, and should be for yours as well.
As for necessary steps .. the installation guide for all Oracle products is found with the rest of the doc set at tahiti.oracle.com (that is, all oracle DB and related products. I've not seen an installation guide for Linux itself, but maybe it's been so long since I needed one that I've forgotten.
As for installing linux itself, it's pretty straight forward. Since I'm installing as a server, I do NOT run the gui desktop installation. You'll also need to think how you want to handle your networking, if installing a virtual machine. You'll need to decide if you want pass-through (your virtual machine appears on the real network - probably NOT what you want), NAT (your virtual machine has an IP known only to the host os - allows you to access the internet, but other machines can't see you), or host-only. You definitely want a fixed IP. Given the way VirtualBox handles networking, I never could get it to work with NAT and and fixed IP, so I use VMware in spite of the cost.
There is a unix forum on this board which will be the place to get help installing and configuring the OS.

  • About "kernel.exec-shield" and "because they will bring security issue" for linux ASE

In " ASE Quick Installation Guide for Linux", "kernel.exec-shield=0" and  “kernel.randomaize-va-space=0” should be set.
But SuSE engineers say that  “kernel.exec-shield=0”and “kernel.randomaize-va-space=0” will bring the OS security issue.
Customer want to know why ASE need the above parameters ?
Has anybody the idea for customer's question?

If the parameters are not set as documented, attempts to start additional engines beyond the first one will fail, generating stack traces.
ASE acts in many ways like it's own operating system, scheduling individual user connections (spids) to actively run (note that ASE was developed well before native threading was commonly available).  Each spid has it's own stack information that gets swapped in when it is set to "running" state on the engine and swapped out when it yields the engine.  The mechanics of this is not that different from the buffer overrun exploits described in the Red Hat document linked to by the
    install guide, http://www.redhat.com/f/pdf/rhel/WHP0006US_Execshield.pdf
and the exec-shield mechanics definatately interfere ASE's operations when ASE is using multiple dataserver processes (engines) that swap spids around.

  • Which version for Linux?

So I have an Acer Aspire One netbook running Linux and I want to download Flash Player but when I have to choose a version I have no idea which one I need. How can I find out which version, YUM, .tar.gz or .rpm is the right one?
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers.

    Compatible? or Certified?
    Compatible?
As long as you configure the Linux and get the right version of the supporting packages such as gcc and glibc, nearly every Fedora is 'compatible'.
The packages and the recommended versions of the packages are listed in the Oracle Installation manual for Linux available at http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/homepage
Steps for installing on many current Linux distros are at http://ivan.kartik.sk
    Certified?
    None of the Fedoras are.

  • SCEP for Linux (Redhat) and Disconnected WSUS

I operate in an environment that has an isolated network and I leverage a disconnected WSUS for updates. This works well with updating the Windows SCEP client. Can the disconnected WSUS also be used to update the SCEP running on Linux (Red Hat)? What would

    Thanks

    Hi Thomas,
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh508781.aspx
System Center 2012 includes an Endpoint Protection client for Linux and for Mac computers. These clients are not supplied with Configuration Manager; instead, you must download the following products from the
    Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center.
System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection for the Mac
System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection for Linux
    Important
You must be a Microsoft Volume License customer to download the Endpoint Protection installation files for Linux and the Mac.
These products cannot be managed from the Configuration Manager console. However, a System Center Operations Manager management pack is supplied with the installation files, which allows you to manage the client for Linux by using Operations Manager.
For more information about how to install and manage the Endpoint Protection clients for Linux and Mac computers, use the documentation that accompanies these products, which is located in the
    Documentation folder.

  • 8.0.1 Patch for Linux has no installer?

So I've downloaded the 8.0.1 update for Linux and Windows.
The windows version is an installer but the linux version is just a
zip file with no instructions?? I've been running CF on both
Windows and Linux for six years and the Linux updaters were always
executable .bin files. I've got no idea what to do with this zip
file. It has no readme, and no identifiable directory structure.
Anyone know how I can apply this to my production linux
    server? Thanks for any help.
Adobe, how about a readme or some kind of instruction for
these patches if they aren't installers?

Thanks to Jochem to answering this in another post. The .zip
    file is
actually an executable linux installer. Go figure. Thanks for
confusing the heck out of me and wasting my afternoon Adobe.
    Why didn't
you just name it .bin like you have in all the years past?!
    Sheesh!
