JQuery Cycle Plugin possible with sliced image site from Photoshop? CS5

I'm an architecture & interior design graduate.
I know not a lot about web design.
I have managed to design my website, slice it in Photoshop and link it in Dreamweaver.
I am trying to use JQuery Cycle for my slideshow here:

I am hoping someone can help me with a little programming on my current website www.ci.guilford.ct.us

Here's how all of these jQuery effects plugins work.
They need to be in a div with a particular id or class. And you tell them, "put the thing there."
I still use a really old jQuery plugin that has been more than superseeded by Cycle. After I figured it out (and that took about two weeks) these plugins became really easy to understand.
So, let's look at Nancy's example:
She establishes a class in the style section (this might also be in your style sheet. It's called cycle-slideshow. It's in her document above with a period before it (which is how you define a class in CSS).
Now, in the HTML below, she creates the div:
<div class="cycle-slideshow" ...
Then she does a couple of commands to make cycle work:
... data-cycle-pause-on-hover="true"
data-cycle-speed="2000">
Normally, I make these "pause-on-hover things "false" because, like in your own website, you simply want the images to show, one after another.
Then she does a bunch of images:
<img src= ...
Now, of course you have to call two things in your page to get everything to work. First, you need to call jQuery. I generally host my own copy of jQuery for each website, but it is perfectly fine to call one remotelly:

And you have to call the jQuery plugin, called Cycle:

Firefox 10 & jquery cycle plugin transparency issues
We have been using the jquery cycle plugin on many sites and after Firefox 10 was released we are noticing a solid black box appearing over the slides during the transitions.
What happens:
transition starts
image area turns solid black
next image fades in from black color
In other browsers (FF9.x and under, IE7+, Chrome, Safari) the transition would be from one slide to the next and not from black to the next slide.

How do I resolve issues with missing layers when opening a Tiff file from Photoshop CS5.1?
I am downloading Tiff images from a partners website. After extracting the file and opening from Photoshop CS5.1 it's only displaying one of the original image layers. For example and image with two guys shaking hands in an office is only opening the clipped two guys and not showing the backgroud. The vendor says the files open fine on their end which leads me to believe its a download or photoshop issue. Any recommendations?
Thanks Curt... I don't think my explanation was clear. I'm downloading an image from an external webiste. The image downloads in a ZIP archive. After extracting from the Zip file, I go into photoshop and do file open. Only part of the image appears. It looks as if it's the top layer of a photoshop image but since I didn't build the image, I'm not certain it was built with multiple layers. Any ideas?

Trying to update from Photoshop CS5 12.0 to 12.0.4 (only update available on Adobe site) fails
I try to manually update from Photoshop CS5 12.0 on Mac to 12.0.4 but the update fails. 12.0.4 is the only update available on the Adobe site that I can find for CS5. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Adobe Application Manger inside Illustrator says all products are up to date. "Updates" in Photoshop under the Help menu is greyed out. I can't print from Photoshop right now because it crashes. I'm assuming an update is in order. Please help!
Not sure if this is the right thing to do, but here's the entire log. I can't parse it very well. Perhaps you're able to? I read online that the 12.0 version was crashing on printing hence the attempt to upgrade.

Problems with sliced images in dreamweaver
Hi, when i uploaded a template from photoshop into dreamweaver and typed in "index" in the link box, the entire page expands a little with white spaces in between all sliced images. How do i fix it?

From the image it looks like the page is breaking due to very poorly written html. As someone pointed out, do not use an image editor to write the code for your page. Slice up the PS comp and build the page in Dreamweaver.

Having problem with images imported from photoshop
I am totally new to Fireworks, I am redoing a site that was done using CS2, that is GoLive, Photoshop and Image Ready. I wanted to begin familiarizing myself with Fireworks by starting with using it to make all the web images for the site (jpgs, pngs, etc). It started well but after a while I started getting strange results from FW when I imported PSD files. The PSD imports fine into FW but when I want to "preview" or do a "2-UP" and see what it looks like as a jpg or png I just get a blank image where the jpg or png is supposed to be. However if I "export" the jpg it does get exported, but I would like to preview it to see what the quality is. This doesn't happen every time but at least 50% of the time in the last 2 days, and there seems to be no rhyme or reason behind why it works with some images but not others.
Another thing is that if I add a layer effect to the image such as "inner glow" to the PS image, and then flatten the image to make sure it gets exported to FW, it doesn't get exported. It is as if I never added the layer effect in PS.
Any help on these two issues would be greatly appreciated and help me to continue in perservering with FW.
VL BrankoI don't think I've cracked open Bridge since upgrading to CS5/CS6, and I'm hesitant to start today! I'm therefore kind of assuming that you're starting with PSDs and opening them up in Fireworks. (If you're not doing this, give it a try.)
Regarding the 50% failure of Preview and 2-Up modes, I was thinking that saving the PSDs as native Fireworks PNGs—within Fireworks—might eliminate that problem. It's hard to imagine Fireworks not previewing its own file format, but easier to imagine it failing to properly preview a PSD file. And again, perhaps File > Image Preview might work better for you.
As far as the "inner glow" issue: 1) Be sure to add it into the PSD before importing into Fireworks, and 2) If it doesn't show up, have a look at Filters within the Properties panel for the selected object; you could try selecting Inner Glow within ‘Photoshop Live Effects’ or try out Fireworks' own native Inner Glow filter effect.
Other than for the purpose of familiarizing yourself with Fireworks, you may want to consider why you'd use Fireworks for these graphics, if they were originally created in Photoshop. Small changes in graphic appearance are always possible when moving between applications. For example, Photoshop is color managed whereas Fireworks is not; you therefore might notice a small shift in saturation or tonality between the two applications. Whether this is a concern depends on your final output goals. -
Why do some images open in Photoshop CS5 and others not when I'm using Edit With command in InDesign
Sometimes when I try to edit images from within InDesign Photoshop says it cannot open because of a problem. I noticed that it's not with every image. But I cannot see why. Some are my own images from iPhoto, some are from the morgue files. Anyone?

Image Processor from Bridge CS5
Lately, I have been getting this error message when trying to access the Image Processor (PS CS5)from Bridge CS5: "Sorry something major happened and I can't continue". I called Adobe support and was told that it might be related to third party plugins. The puzzling part is that I have been using all of the above with no problems for over a year . . I am using a Mac Pro, OS 10.6.4, with 10 G of RAM, and have the latest updates to PS and Bridge. Any suggestions?

Using Mac Pro running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) & editing & printing from Photoshop CS 6.
Have new Canon Pixma Pro-100 printer and set it up yesterday. First thing printed was a
document from MS Word (a letter) 8.5 X 11 plain paper - this came out OK. Next I fire up
Photoshop and open a 4 X 6 inch image to do a test print. I set it up in the print dialog as
4X6 paper, Canon's Pro Glossy paper profile, rear tray, standard print quality, Photoshop
manages the color. I load the paper in the rear tray close the covers and hit print. Now, when
it starts to print the printer moves about 3.8 inches of paper out of the printer and starts printing
on the remaining 2.2 inches then spits the paper out. It does this in Photoshop (any image it doesn't
matter), and it does it printing from Capture NX. I have been able to get it to print on the paper
correctly using Apple's Preview program but that that's not going to do me any good. I was on
the phone with Canon tech support for about 2 hours and they were completely puzzled suggesting
I would have to use Canon's printing apps instead to print - that doesn't do me any good either.
I want to be able to print from Photoshop. Any one every heard of this or experienced the same

My monitor is calibrated with Spyder 3. Gamma 2.2, 6500K, 83 cd/m^2. Contrast at 50%; brightness about 52%. My monitor lets me choose blackness level - it defaults to 50%.
When I print the test image I linked to above, using Lightroom, with no adjustments, my technical output is as follows:
Middle step wedge shows twelve disticnt steps. Whitest step is color of unprinted paper.
It varies from paper to paper, but I can discerne at least the 252 step and on some papers 253 - telling me I have good highlight detail.
On the black side I discerne 8 or 10, nothing lower. (That sounds like what you are reporting).
Artistically I am very happy how my print looks - nice red strawberries, good flesh tones, etc.
One my monitor, the on-screen image is almost identical to the print. I am surprised that you can see the 2 wedge step on screen at a very similar brightness.

You are probably aware of this since you are printing with Print Studio Pro, but others may not be.
You can print a series of test images:
find the one that best suits your taste, enter the calibration values in PSP, and save them as a custom setting. Then, each time you want to print recall the setting.
You can do a similar thing in Lightroom using the printer driver and User Templates.
There would be some one-time trial and error to that approach.

Images opened in Photoshop CS5 has a blue-tinted grayscale
I was using Photoshop CS5 (64-bit) fine yesterday but today each image I open shows a loss of colour, everything looks like a blue tinted grayscale.
The same with RAW files oipened in ACR and all files opened in Bridge.
When I open a JPEG version in Microsoft Image Viewer the colour is fine.
In Windows, the thumbnails look fine with full colour in the folders.
The loss of colour only happens when the image files are opened in Photoshop, Bridge and ACR.
Anyone out there who can help?

Just for info - the Huey Pro calibrator has worked well with this monitor (Dell U2410) for at least a couple of years now.
I tried old profiles created previously using the HueyPRO but they did not work, so I deleted them from the System32/spool/drivers/color folder.
Then a new HueyPRO-created monitor profile did not work, so I deleted that as well.
Then at start up, the HueyPRO seemed to auto-create its own monitor profile which it named: "hueyPRO Dell U2410 F525MOA70DKL.icc"
But that gave the same loss of colour when opening files in Photoshop
So I think Chris is exactly right - the problem must be with the HueyPRO "cigar" hardware, or with its software, so I may well have been bothering you all unnecessarily.
I'll try getting a new hueyPRO - but not too common in the shops here in central Africa.
In the meantime, I've uninstalled HueyPRO and I'm using a reference image to calibrate using the NVIDEA Control Panel (I'm working on a commission for two photo calendars at the moment and so have to keep it going....).
Any recommendations on a better calibrator (but a non-too technical one!)??

Problem with the Ray Tracer in Photoshop CS5
I am very new to 3D modeling but I have been fallowing online tutorials to properly set-up and use the repousse tool with ray tracing in CS5. Last night I did a very intensive Font design with great success. Just about an hour ago I got an Adobe update for CS4 which I installed. Afterwards, the ray tracing in the repousse tool would not work. It would start and I would see the render grid pop up and then it would suddenly close. I closed photoshop cs5 and reopened it and still the same problem. I then went into the performance settings and they were all set at the same settings as the previous night. I have no idea why this feature would suddenly stop working but the problem started after the adobe CS4 update. If someone can help me fix this I would be greatly appreciated.
O.K tried reinstalling the whole suite, which was really annoying because the installer is such a load of...., well let's say it's not good. After deinstalling the reinstall failed and I had to run the cleanup tool (which produced some error's, how is that even possible) and do some other stuff suggested by the support. (It's really annoying that such an expensive programm has such a bad installer - CS3/4/5, always the same problem. At least the Adobe support is really good, so that helps a bit)
After all I managed to reinstall the whole thing but this didn't help. Interesting enough it seem this has to do something with the file. If I create a simple text 3D-object it renders fine, so I guess I will start all over again and try if I get this working. This time I will save copies of every step, maybe I can figure out if this happens again.
Another strange detail: the 3D-tools have an error, too on this file. If I move the object around in space they really jump on the slightest movement of the mouse. -

How to get a BW shaped 'mask' jpg to act as a mask?
Only making slideshows.
I have tried placing an image on line V1 then the 'mask' on V2 and right clicking to make composite mode luma - sort of worked.
Tried to place the 'mask' (with no image on V2) in the filter matt section with no luck at all.
Next step is to get the mask to move across screen.
I am very confused about this so any help in plain english would be gratefully appreciated.Thanks James, that works.

Tried using the motion section but image is locked in place, I can rotate it, but not move horizontal or vertical. -

Everything looks ok at first glance, but you can see the image border in the picture, there is a jump of 1 a 2 px over the whole border of the transparent image.(transparency is more than 100px that transaprency works ok)

just transparent for the whole background, i hope you can see it in the pdf.
The effect is not visable in the illustrator artbord work enviremetn.
Wel visable in print, pdf, different pdf, print to pdf, save to adobe pdf.

I am getting errors upon use of JPG images, saved from Photoshop, in Encore.
How do I use Photoshop JPG images in Encore without errors?
When using camera jpg images, saved by Photoshop (either save, or image manipulation like autocolor then save, no other Photoshop options were tested), Encore will either :
1) generate an image import error: "The software that's used to decode the media is not available on this system. Installing the correct decoders for the files you are working with may help to correct the problem." and be unable to import the image,
2) Image import stops before completion (Encore stops responding and must be Closed by Windows Task Manager), or
3) with a number of images imported, upon attempts to create a Slideshow, Slideshow creation will stop while in progress, and Encore does not respond (Encore must be Closed by Windows Task Manager).
Import and Slideshow creation using untouched camera images is nominal and uneventful.
Import and Slideshow creation using PhotoShop(64bit) GIF (copy) images is nominal and uneventful.The common cause of this issue is still image files where the pixel size is too large. This warranted its own help page, which is now a dead link.

But I assume the pixel size is the same whether you are processing them in Photoshop or not. but the main point is that the underlying problem is not about decoders. Encore encounters a problems dealing with the file and throws the only error it (apparently) has. So you are looking for anything like that: pixel size, changes between rgb and cmyk, extra metadata in files. Maybe even filename oddities (length, special characters).
I would look in part at what versions you are using and compatibility settings.
I would save them as png or psd.
