Jre 1.3.1_02 clown icon ?

i have jre 1.3.1_02 - installed with the opera 6 registered version browser. the java console also appears as an internet explorer plug in - the initial installation installed 2 copies of this jre into my i.e. browser and seems they are both 'damaged'. the icon in my control panel and in the system tray next to the clock is a squashed clown face. i've been having alot of problems - possibly a virus since installing the jre. and all the screen shots i've found at the sunjava site illustrate either 'duke' a penguin? or the steming java cup. is the jre supposed to have a squashed clown face icon? what is it? and if it is a virus (norton antivirus can't detect it) what should i do? please help! thanks.

also how do i add my email to my profile?
i tried settings but it doesn't seem to be an option.

  • JRE 1.3.1_02 does not work with new Nvidia drivers - HELP!

I am a user and not a developer but this problem really does bite the big one. I have had installed JRE 1.3.1 and have used it to run LimeWire file sharing program for a long time (LimeWire is a java program from www.limewire.com) and also use it to see java applets on web pages in IE 6.
I have since upgraded my Nvidia video drivers to version 2.8.3.2 which is the latest official release at this time from Nvidia. Since doing this I have no java at all anymore. Limewire refuses to run at all and there is an error report generated in it's resident directory. If I go to http://java.sun.com, IE hangs and then dissappears, leaving a bug report on my desktop. It seems that JRE does not like the new NT OpenGL dll at all in the new Nvidia drivers and will not run at all. The dll that causes the problem is:
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvoglnt.dll
I upgraded JRE to version 1.3.1_02 because Sun says this is the latest version and runs on XP which is what I have. Still java does not run at all anymore and I get the same bug reports. Has anyone found a workaround for this problem? This really stinks because now I cannot use LimeWire at all and if any web page has java on it, it dissappears right away and there is no more browser on my desktop. The only way I can even visit http://java.sun.com is if I use a Java blocking applet to filter out java applets on web pages.
Please address this issue in JRE development and release a patch for it or a workaround.
    Thank you for reading this.

    Chuck,
I stumbled in here looking for help, I am a PC user,
not a coder or developer (How sad. <g>). I checked for
updates to the Nvidia driver (none), Windows XP (not
at this time), and DirectX 8.1 (not at this time,
these come on the XP updates page so far as I know.)
    Not too suprising...
I have no idea of how to implement your suggestion on
how to disable the JMV use of DirectX overal in my XP
envornment. I guess that using Internet Explorer 6 to
see web pages with Java on them are pretty much out of
the question for now but I would be happy as a clam if
I could get my LimeWire application going again.
LimeWire is called via a desktop or Start menu
    shortcut in this fashion:
    Target Box: C:\WINDOWS\system32\javaw.exe -cp .
    RunLime
    Start In (directory): "C:\Program Files\LimeWire 1.7"
So it appears that java is called via the javaw.exe
file and passes a cp argument (whatever that is), then
there is a period separator (dunno why) and then the
"RunLime" statement that calls up the LimeWire
program.to implement the suggestion, simply add -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true between "javaw.exe" and "-cp" separating it from them by a space on each side. Your result should look something like this:
    c:\windows\system32\javaw.exe -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -cp . RunLime
    >
I cannot see any need for fancy graphic acceleration
or DirectX being called to play for this application
since it is basicly a file manager that shares.
Nothing fancy about it.It's not the application choosing to do this, but Java itself. Java GUI applications specifically those who use the Swing GUI classes (like LimeWire, if I recall) automatically leverage DirectX. This is really valuable for Swing applications since they emulate Windows (or Mac or Motif) GUI widgets rather than using them, making fast access to display buffers important to ensure best performance.
    >
Do you have any idea of how to pass your
    "-Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true" statement to disable
DirectX into the above call to start java and
    LimeWire?See above.

Hanging by the edge of my seat, waiting for more input
on this. Thank you for your time and suggestions.

  • Jre 1.4.1_02 and jre 1.4.2_05

    Help,
I have one third party application requiring jre 1.4.1_02 plug-in and another third party application requiring jre 1.4.2_05 plug-in running on a Windows 2000 Professional PC. Is there any way to get the two JAVA plug-ins to work together without requiring a re-installation of either of the plug-in?

I think you can use JRE 1.4.2_05 instead of using both. JREs there is compatibility for both JRE. Try using only one ie 1.4.2_05.

  • Does JRE 1.3.1_02 demand the latest Windows?

    Greetings everybody,
Is the functioning of JRE 1.3.1_02 dependent on the version of Windows on which it is installed?
I wrote a Java program containing a main method and which uses certain helper classes. Also an applet program was written. I packed the main class file, the applet and the helper classes into a jar and uploaded the jar onto a Mandrake 7.2 system. I set up the web-server Apache on the same Mandrake system, and placed a HTML file to open the applet. This applet enables a client browser to interact with the main java program running in the Mandrake system. On the command prompt of Mandrake I typed java -jar <jar filename> <main-class file> [enter]
From Internet Explorer installed on a Windows 2000 machine I called the HTML file. The applet opened and tried to locate the background main Java program, which it did and my whole setup ran successfully.
I then tried opening the same applet from Windows NT and Windows 98 systems. But the applet failed to open. In the Java console of IE I am getting a ClassNotFoundException <applet-class-name>
I agree I did not set the Mandrake system classpath and the Apache web-server classpath, but how is it that Win2k is able to detect the jar file in which the applet is located whereas NT and 98 do not? This has definitely something to do with the functioning of the JRE (the Win2K, NT and 98 all have JRE 1.3.1_02 installed)
Maybe there is some angle which I am missing, but I am describing as much as I can understand. Any inputs would be appreciated.
    R.Srivatsan

Possibly the applet did not open on NT or 98 because it was unable to establish socket connections to your main Java program.
Maybe this has something todo with the way Socket connections are listened for. There is a difference in how Win2k listens and how NT and 98 listen.
    Check out this link:
    http://search.communities.microsoft.com/newsgroups/previewFrame.asp?ICP=msdn&sLCID=US&sgroupURL=microsoft.public.win32.programmer.networks&sMessageID=%253COZB4xO26BHA.2320@tkmsftngp04%253E
and also check the responses posted in the same newsgroup for this question.
In case it turns out that this is a socket connection problem, you need to install the latest WinSock API on your NT from the Microsoft site. This is available in the latest service pack (Service Pack 6 I think).
I am however not sure about the 98 part. 98 is still a robust OS with regard to JRE. Maybe you need to register certain ocx or dlls.
    Hope this helps.

  • Help on Linux with JRE 1.3.1_02!!!

    Well..hello.
    Here is my Problem:
I Dloaded the JRE 1.3.1_002.bin file and instaled it. No Problems, nu Errors, nothing.
But for Example, Limewire still doesn't work! It says that
"No Java Viritual Machine could be found from your Path Enviroment.
Youmust install a VM prior to use this Programm."
Well, sounds like Limewire is too stupid, I know. BUT: Other Programs like "Go ICQ"
( http://go.icq.com ) aren't working too, so there is definitivley a Prob wit my java.
There is a jre 1.3.1_02 directory in my /home directory, and I can run the Control Panel. I told him to use the RE in my /home directory...and I told Konqueror to use the Ns4 Plugin...But nothing works!
I am runing Mandrake 8.2 on a i386 class system....
Please help, I really need ICQ and Limewire...

Ok, I had the same problem! Goto settings>Configure Konqueror>Konqueror Browser>Java; and enable java globally! (however, the icq is just sooo slow and it "I don't know how to say it in english" all the time, then I have to Ctrl+Alt+Esc all the windows...)

This code works fine in PB12.0 . Note that we cant change the Java component built in JRE_1.3.1_02.
How can I make it work in PB12.6?
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Amol

    Hello Amol,
To simulate your problem, I used this excellent sample Wrap a Java bean in a COM object - Real's Java How-to to bundle a JavaBeans as an ActiveX object using the ActiveX Bridge technology
I had to install very old JDK 1.3.1_02 and Java Plugin 1.3.1 into my Windows 7 box
Here are my observations after coding below script (I also used excellent document http://scn.sap.com/community/developer-center/powerbuilder/blog/2014/09/24/how-to-capture-error-messages-from-an-activex-control from Roland Smith to create n_oleobject OLE object)
+ PowerBuilder 12.1 and 12.5.2 are working without any crashes
+ PowerBuilder 12.6 is crashing directly at line ConnectToNewObject
    My real concern is that
    * the COM object (which is in fact a Java object) is using an EOL JDK and EOL technology
    * PB 12.6 is not compatible with this JDK
I'm not sure if we can support COM objects developped with obsolete technologies.
    n_oleobject   objJava
    string    strFromjava
    integer   li_rc
    objJava = CREATE n_oleobject
    li_rc = objJava.ConnectToNewObject("JavaBeanSays.Bean")
    If li_rc = 0 Then
       try
      strFromJava = objJava.getHello()
      MessageBox("From PB via JavaCom", strFromJava)
      objJava.setHello("Bonjour le monde")
      strFromJava = objJava.getHello()
      MessageBox("From PB via JavaCom", strFromJava)

          PopulateError(objJava.ErrorCode, objJava.ErrorText)
          MessageBox("OLE Runtime Error #" + &
                String(Error.Number), Error.Text, StopSign!)
          objJava.DisconnectObject()
          Return
       end try
       objJava.DisconnectObject()

Some People claim that Norton programs might interfere, I disabled them even went as far to uninstall them which takes a long time.. to uninstall and install them back.
I even went as far as a clean systems install of windows XP sp2 Home Edition and th en tried to update to Sun Java and still got the red X basically saying something wrong with install. But nothing every says its wrong when you run the offline installation. Just when you go back to the website to veriffy jjava is installed.
To be able to use my subsciption I pay for on Pogo.com to play games that require applets I had to enable the MSJava in Internet Explorer and disable the box of the Sun Java applet version whatever you have installed to have Runtime Environment.
If you don't have the MS Java on your Internet Explorer Advanced Options you can get it at this address:
    http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/java/
Go figure. I thought Sun Java would be more better which I had working before have no clue why it stopped working and those errors come up when trying to play games that require the use of the java applet.
Was hoping other java users who have figured out why it stopped can tell me what to look for to alter so I can change back to sun Java.
The Sun Java works great with other applications just not the applets.

The same problem happened to me. When upgrading from JRE 1.5.0_5 to JRE 1.5.0_6, suddenly no applets would load, and all I could see was the little red X.
I tried to change proxysettings (I dont use a proxy, but it is told at http://www.java.com/en/download/help/redximage.xml that it is due to wrong proxy-settings). It didn't help.
I tried to turn off zonealarm. It didn't help.
I tried to clear the browsers cache. It didn't help.
I have been using both Firefox 1.5, and IE6. None would load the java-applets.
So I uninstalled all older JRE versions and installed JRE 1.4.1_02. It worked!
I then tried to upgrade to JRE 1.5.0. It didn't work.
Now I am back at JRE 1.4.1_02 without knowing why I had to downgrade through 6 versions that through the last year or so has been working fine on my machine.
I have no idea why it suddenly wouldnt work with the newer versions.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you.

  • 1.4.1_02 Upgrade To 1.4.2_06

I have upgraded JRE 1.2.1_02 to 1.4.2_06 sucessfully. Although during testing I noticed that 1.4.1_02 is still available in the preferences settings for Java Web Start. Our client would like this to be disabled. I have tried removing the check for enabling this version and capturing the setting change. Our capture software could not find where the setting was changed (registry, ini file, etc.). After stopping and re-starting Java Web Start the enable box is checked again.
Is release 1.4.1_02 required for the 1.4.2_06 installation ? Is there a way to remove/disable it ? I need a solution to this to satisfy the request of our client. Anyone have any ideas ? Thanks.

The 1.4.2_06 installation does not require any other version. It does not however un-install previous versions automatically. This needs to be done as a seperate step. It can be removed by uninstalling it (from either the Control-Panel => Add/Remove programs)
The Java Web Start will show the packages installed, but it will only use the version you specifiy, so the previous version is effectly disable because it would not be used.)

  • Applets Crashing Internet Explorer on Windows XP with JRE 1.4.0 Final

I have recently installed the 1.4.0Final JRE, and have found that upon arriving at a page with an applet on internet explorer explorer crashes. Where as under the JRE 1.3.1_02 it does not.
I am running Windows XP, and cannot remember the exact error message I get, however it is something about an error occuring within iexplorer.exe
    Any help appreciated.

I have the same symptom on Windows 2000 (SP2) using Internet Explorer 5.00. Replacing the IE JVM with J2SE 1.4 causes IE to crash when I visit java.sun.com.
I am filing a bug with the JDC Bug Parade, but I am surprised that this has not been more widely reported, since I think I have a common system configuration.

  • JRE 1.4.1_03 Plugin Security Manager

    Hi,
We have a signed applet that runs fine under previous versions (i.e. 1.4.1_02 and earlier) of the Plugin, but throws a java.security.AccessControlException when 1.4.1_03 is in use. Has anyone else seen this? To verify, I uninstalled all of the JRE's, reinstalled 1.4.1_03, retested and got the exception, uninstalled 1.4.1_03 and installed 1.4.1_02, retested with no exception thrown.
    Any ideas?
    TIA,
    David

Ok, here's the stack trace (along with some additional plugin output). The basic question is why would we be getting this exception only when JRE 1.4.1_03 is installed and not with JRE 1.4.1_02?

    Hi Folks,
Me again. Looks like I'm talking to myself. Well, that's ok. Us English are known to do that (but only after years of acquaintance).
I guess we're out of luck. In Java 1.4, all the Duke icons disappeared from the files mentioned above. The steaming java ones are mostly still there, but sligtly modified. And the one file (jpishare.dll) has fuzzy low-res cups in place of the Dukes!
    Ah well,

  • Installing jre plugins.....

OK, Im running RH 7.2 and i already ran the rpm and it went fine. Im trying to get the plugins to work but i cant seem to get it. I ran the command "export NPX_PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/java/jre-1.3.1_02/plugins/i386/ns4" and that seemed to go well. Now when i got to run a program (for instance, LimeWIre) it tells me that i have no VM installed.
Is this because i messed up my "export..." command? Also im using mozilla...since mozilla and netscape are closely related i thought maybe to follow the netscape instructions as well...that did no good. What am I missing?
    Thx for any help

Is this because i messed up my "export..." command?
Also im using mozilla...since mozilla and netscape

    netscape instructions as well...that did no good.ln -s /usr/java/jre-1.3.1_02/plugins/i386/ns600/libjavaplugin_oji.so <mozilla-path>/plugins
Then run mozilla. It should detect the plugin, Java, etc, and load it. (As long as you've got the jre set up correctly, it'll recognize it and load it.)
Getting the plugin to work in netscape 4 is a game of chance. :/

  • Shared JRE Environement

    Hi,
I have general Questions to JRE Environement.
We did use some different Client Applications
Each of them uses same or little different JRE Versions
    eg. JRE1.4.2_06
The Problem will be the Developping to Users Workstation requires allways eg. 25MB till 50MB more over the Network.
    approximatly
    C:\Program Files\Application1
    \JRE1.4.2_06
    C:\Program Files\Application2
    \JRE1.4.2_06
    C:\Program Files\Application3
    \JRE1.4.2_05
C:\Programm Files\ xxxxx and so on
    WE have also on Drive
    C:\Program Files\JAVASOFT\JRE\1.4.2_05
    C:\Program Files\JAVASOFT\JRE\1.4.2_06
    C:\Program Files\JAVASOFT\JRE\1.4.1_02
    THE Questions now:
    A) what will be the Risk if i configure the Application1 to use
    C:\Program Files\JAVASOFT\JRE\1.4.2_06
    as well Application2 and Application3
that means the same Environement at the Time?
    B) whats about Memory Usage if different Applications uses different -xms Parameters? -eg. Application1 -32 and Application3 -xmx256
Operating System on Desktops Windows XP Professional SP2
In this case i have only 1 time to develop the JRE to each user- will helpfull for me to save time
but depends on the answers i get (risks)
    kind regards
    Servswitch

The best way to explain this problem is JRE 1.4.0 is execting an old shared object for libstdc which had been updated in Redhat 7.2. Since, the functionality in libstdc should still exist in the newer version of libstc I simply made a symbolic link pointing to the current version of libstdc to satisfy JRE 1.4.0.
    ln -s /usr/lib/libstdc++-3-libc6.2-2-2.10.0.so /usr/lib/libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2Hope this helps.

  • Difficulty Installing the MySQL JDBC Driver

I am trying to install mySQL JDBC driver "mysql-connector-java-2.0.14.tar.gz" to link up with the mySQL server on a Windows XP OS.
    The error is:
    Cannot find database driver classes

I have read the USAGE AND INSTALLATION in the README file, but it can not seem to find these drivers still. I added the location to my PATH variable in the environment variables, and set CLASSPATH= ... as well and still can not find them
Paths i added to PATH and CLASSPATH variables
    C:\j2sdk1.4.0_01\mysqlconnector.tar

I did both methods it suggested, within the JDBC folder are the com and org folders. Anyone offer some suggestions.

  • How can i run a jar file?

    hi there
how can i run a far file on my pc. i have installed JRE 1.3.1, and set the classpath to C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.1_02\bin for the user variables, what else do i need to do to run it?

Hi everyone.. i had a funny problem. Microsoft removed from registry and system the vm and i got the problem of java.dll and the registry problem when compiling.
    How did i resolve that?
    too easy:
    1. go to the registry and search the key "JavaSoft"
    2. add a Key with the name "Java Runtime Environment"
    3. select the new key and add a alfa-numeric Value with the name "CurrentVersion"
    4. set the value c:\jdk1.4 //the place of your jdk-version
    5. insert a new Key with the name "1.4"
    6. go to the new key and add an alfanumeric value with the name "JavaHome" and put the value c:\jdk1.4\jre\lib
do this where you find the key Javasoft (in my registry was twice)
i did it and got no problems
