JRE 1.4.0 not working in IE on Windows XP?

Hi,
after installing JDK 1.4.0 (which brings JRE 1.4.0) my IE 6.0 on Windows XP no longer complaints that there is no Java installed on my machine when opening a page which uses an <applet> tag. (As we all know, Microsoft does not include Java in Windows XP) But when I open http://java.sun.com, the two applets on this page load but finally fail, I get
java.net.SocketException: SOCKS: address type not supported
and later
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: jug2
If that matters, I am behind a proxy server.
The included demo applets in JDK 1.4.0 run smoothly in my browser.
Does anybody know a solution to this problem?

I have exactly the same problem:-
After installing Forte for Java 4 and JDK 1.4.0_1 (which brings JRE 1.4.0) I allowed the installation to default the JRE to load as the default on IE. My IE 6.0 settings under Tools\Internet Options\Advance has the 'Use Java 2 v1.4.0 for <applet>' box checked.
With this option checked opening a Web page which uses an <applet> tag I get: -
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: NameOfClass.class
and: -
java.net.SocketException: SOCKS: address type not supported
If I uncheck the 'Use Java 2 v1.4.0 for <applet>' box, then Web pages which use the <applet> tag work, however, pages loaded from within Forte for Java 4, for example: -

I too am behind a proxy server.
I have played with this for hours and I am getting nowhere, does anybody have any ideas?

Hi,
I am a website owner, and I have a feature on my site where users can upload large (up to 50MB) music files to my server. The feature works in Firefox on OSX & Windows platforms and it also works in Safari on OSX. The uploading feature is not working with Safari for Windows. Do you have any idea why and how to fix this? It can't be an issue with my server as it works in other browsers fine and works fine in Safari for OS X.
If you have any information on how to solve this or things for me to try to rectify this for use with Windows operating system it would be much appreciated.

I have solved this issue myself with some help from my a user on Microsoft Forums. The issue stems from the mime type of each Browser Chrome, IE, & Safari for Windows defaults as audio/wav. When the mime type is changed to audio/x-wav everything works. Firefox defaults to audio/x-wav and when changed to audio/wav it DOES NOT work.
Once I input some code in my .php upload page to change the mimetype if audio/wav is detected everything works GREAT!!!
So Here is what you need to do: Find your upload page and input this code:
echo "MIME Type: ".$_FILES["file"]["type"]."";
right before your "If/then" statement of file type. For me it was near line 30 in my upload.php page, but I'm sure this is different for everyone.
This will detect and DISPLAY the default mime type of your browser on the error page when your upload doesn't work. Once you know what mime type works for your file type then you can change your "if/then" statement for mime type upload to change your mime type to the correct one.
I don't want to give the code here, because I'm sure it's specific to your file types and your site construction, but this should lead you on the right track.
***This is the solution if you ARE NOT ABLE to upload any certain file in a certain Browser. It has to do with mime type construction***

ValentinT, welcome to the forum.
There are no drivers available for Windows 8. I suggest checking in the Control Panel/Sound/Recording to assure that your microphone is selected. It seems that the Sound is one area that gets changed when updating to Win 8.1. At least, this is what happened to me.

Hi Sameer,
There's no version of Windows Vista that is supported, regardless of service packs. You can always upgrade to Windows 7, though.
Your other option is to use Brackets, the open source editor that Edge Code is based on. It still supports Vista for now. The downside is that Brackets lacks some features of Edge Code: Kuler integration, Edge Inspect integration, and Edge Web Fonts code hints -- although all of those except Kuler are offered as optional Brackets extensions too (you just have to install them).

The FN keys are controlled by Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. I think you have forgotten to install these tools
You should check the Toshiba page again and download both tools. Start with installation of Value Added Package then restart your notebook. After this install Flash Cards Support Utility. Once again restart and all FN keys should work properly now.

Try to disable transparency in Windows, see:

What did the F5 key do before? According to your manual in the Action Keys list (page 32-33), that key wasn't tied to anything unless its just for page refresh.
If a Windows update breaks something, the best way I know to correct the problem is to uninstall that update.
OR
You can revert Windows back to an earlier state before the update with a Restore Point provided you didn't turn off that feature. If for some reason it is turned off, you will not be able to revert to that point as one was not created.
After the restore, only install one windows update at a time until you find the culprit and uninstall it. This way you have the other updates installed. YES this can be a long process.

JRE/JDK 1.3.1_19 Not working with OS Patched Windows 2003 Server DST 2007

Hello:
We are trying to upgrade our 1.3.1_03 application with 1.3.1_19. It worked fine in a machine (WIndows Server 2003) where OS was not patched for DST. However, as far as I could see if the OS is patched the DST compliant java (1.3.1_19) is not working.
I go to the jre/bin and try to do a java -version and I see nothing from OS patched machine.
Non-OS Patched machines, it works and I could see the java version.
Has anybody faced this problem?
Really appreciate any suggestion.

Fill not working in Photoshop CC - Windows 7

Suddenly having an issue where the "Fill" command is not working. It doesn't matter if I use Shift+Backspace or Shift+F5 or by going to Edit>Fill. It goes through the motions and the Fill action is recorded in the history panel, but the layer is not filled. The only way I've successfully filled is with the Paint Bucket, and that's just not as convenient.

Flash Player Does Not Work After Installing on Windows XP

I had been playing a shockwave game for several days and had completed 19 of 35 levels. When I went to play it again, I received a message that I need to update to a newer flash player. I downloaded it successfully, but it does not work. There is no file size and I uninstalled and reinstalled it several times. I also changed the internet settings as suggested. I am also the administrator of and only user of this computer. I can also play the same game on another computer that has windows 7 and have no problems. I have completed 33 of 35 levels with no problems. The computer with XP has a 32 system.
Any help would be appreciated.

I had been playing a shockwave game for about a week . When I went to play it again, it stated that I need to upgrade to a newer adobe flash player. I have windows xp with a 32 system and explorer 8 browser. After installing the flash player, it has no file siz for the player.. After I installed it, the page says it had been installed. The game still says I need to upgrade the flash player. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, changed my internet settings as suggested, and it still does not work. I can play the same game on my other computer with windows 7 with no problems. It has a file size listed for the flash player. The computer that I am using now has windows 7 and a file size for the adobe flash player.
Any help with this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Microphone not working after upgrading to windows 7 on Compaq Mini 730EA.

My Compaq Mini 730EA came with Wins XP and I have just upgraded to Wins 7 Ultimate 32 bit. My Mic is not working with Windows 7, but it can play sound. When I roll back to Windows XP the mic works, but does not with Wins 7.
Where can I get the appropriate driver for the mic, please. Not driver? Then What should I do?

Since there isn't a driver to download the only thing you can possible do is delete the windows driver that the notebooks installs for the feature.
This is what it will look like.
Go under Human Interface Devices and delete every USB INPUT DEVICE.
Then restart the notebook and it should install the drivers back.

Keyboard wireless key not working after upgrading to windows 8.1

I am having hp pavilion dv6-6165tx notebook, where keyboard having a wireless button that turns ON and OFF all wireless devices, After upgrading to windows 8.1, HP Connection Manager is not getting installed, as well as Key is not working, key color turns red and white but no action is performed.
Kindly suggest me some solution.
Note: HP Doesn't provide drivers for windows 8/8.1 ONLY WINDOWS 7 for hp pavilion dv6-6165tx.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv6-6165tx Notebook and the Wireless keyboard not working correctly. Here is a link to troubleshoot the keyboard.
The HP Connection Manager is something that is for Windows 7 not Windows 8.1. I would uninstall this from your Notebook. Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating. It has a troubleshooting tool in this.
Make sure all your updates have been completed. I would try restarting my Notebook a few times.
If that does not help I would uninstall the keyboard from the Device manager.

Bluetooth Not Working after upgrading to Windows 8.1

That is very interesting, because I didn't know of anyone who upgraded to W8.0 with a Ralink wireless card with the BT 3.0 radio that got the BT to work at all.
We tried the W7 drivers, and they didn't work.
That is why you don't see a W8 Ralink BT driver for the bluetooth on your PC's support and driver page amongst the other 11 drivers listed.
The Ralink 3.0 version of BT is not supported in W8.
While somehow the BT has worked in W8 for you, I'm afraid your luck has run out.
Unless by some fluke, HP installed a card with the BT 4.0 radio on your model...
You can try this W8 driver for the Ralink card with the BT 4.0 radio, but don't get your hopes up.

Hp dv6t select edition headphones not working after upgrading to windows 8.1

So I upgraded to windows 8.1 from 7 and now when I plug in my earphones there is no audio. I can still hear something when I just use the laptop speakers, just not with earphones. I also don't see the beats audio program on my laptop anymore or the hp support assisstant.
