Jre 1.4.1 with IE5 and Mozilla MAC OS X
Hi,
I just installed the JRE 1.4.1 on Mac OS X.
It's working fine with the apple's browser SAFARI.
But my other browsers,IE5 an Mozilla, still launch the applets in the JRE 1.3.1.
Is there a way to force IE5 and Mozilla to use the 1.4.1 jre ?
Thank you
Laurent
Hi
on Apple website, you find your answer :
Q: What J2SE version do Java applets run under inside a browser?
A: Apple's Safari browser runs all Java applets under J2SE 1.4.1 if 1.4.1 is installed. Other browsers are currently developed to specifically use our 1.3.1 implementation, and will need to be updated. If you would like to see your favorite browser use 1.4.1, please contact the vendor and ask them to adopt the newer version.

Jre plugin not working with IE5.5
System
Windows2000 version 5
IE 5.5
Netscape 4.08 & 6.1
jdk1.3.1
jre1.3.1
My applet loads fine with netscape 4.08 & 6.1, but as soon as I try it with IE 5.5 it hangs unless i put the mouse pointer over a little black square that appears on the web page. This starts a download of the plugin cab file from sun's site. Then only a little portion of my applet is displayed on the top left corner. Funny thing is it worked fine before I installed jre1.3.1. before that it would download a cab file from sun. I've checked the CLASSPATH and PATH and nothing points to anything other than 1.3.1 of jre. Plus the fact that it works with netscape, even 6.1. Generally its netscape which has the problems. any ideas? You might try the beta plugin available for download from the developer connection. It allows the Sun JRE to run in IE6 and Netscape6 with just a html page with the <APPLET> tag. So far it seems to be working okay.

Problems with SDN and Mozilla FireFox
I'm trying to acces SDN portal with Mozilla FireFox 0.9 Browser, but I can't.
Anybody could helpme? It's only a personal problem or it's a general problem?Hi
I have had the same problem, but I solved it by deleting all cookies from sdn.sap.com and then logged in again.
Hope it helps you.
<b>Update:</b>
Sorry I thought it helped - but it seems that it is necessary to delete the cookies again when the session expires...
I really think SAP and sdn should put some effort into solving such "simple" problems.

I have recently created a website for my family's business. When we bought the Macbook the guy in Apple said the best way to send an email campaign to our mailing list was to publish a hidden page, find it in the browser on Safari, then share it via email, so that is what I do. For most of my customers this works fine, however I have a number of people each month who cannot see any of the content of the email. I have added an 'If you can't see this email properly...' link at the top of the page, with no shapes or images etc near it, but even that does not appear for them.
I am a self-taught novice unfortunately, so haven't a clue what the problem is. I'm not sure of the operating system, but we bought the Macbook in May and it has all the recent updates installed. I have just had a new baby so can't get into the store fdor a one-to-one, so if anyone could explain why this happens / what I can do about it, I would be very grateful! Thanks! If you think getting your web pages to appear OK in all the major browsers is tricky then dealing with email clients is way worse. There are so many of them.
If you want to bulk email yourself, there are apps for it and their templates will work in most cases...
http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Email-Marketing/EBlast.html
This one will create the form, database and send out the emails...
http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Email-Marketing/MailShoot.html
The alternative is to use a marketing service if your business can justify the cost. Their templates are tested in all the common email clients...

Many random abrupt restarts with ML and my Mac Pro
Any help would be appreciated with this...
Ive recently clean installed Mountain Lion with only a handful of 3rd party apps on my 2009(?) Mac Pro and seem to be getting about 3-6 random Kernal Panics and/or abrupt restarts a day. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for them as they all happen when doing differant tasks. Last time it happened I was only browsing in Safari with itunes playing in the background. iTunes started to skip like a scratched record 4 or 5 times then suddenly the computer shut down and restarted itself. Below is the report that I sent to Apple. Any idea whats causing the problem or suggestions on a fix? If more info is required Id be happy to post. Thanks!

Setting up home network with new and old Macs and 1GBps internet connection
I have a 1 GBps internet connection and want to take advantage of it. I have three 802.11ac capable Apple products - a Macbook Air, Macbook Pro and Imac. The signal currently runs from an Aris modem into a Netgear router that maxes out at 100mbps. My Apple Extreme (not the new one with 802.11ac) is connected to the Netgear , so choked at 100mbps. Everything runs off Wifi. I have run speedtests on all my computers and nothing runs over 50mbps in the current setup. I also run some home security stuff off "DDNS" that does not work with Apple products (thus the Netgear router) so I need to consider that too. I use two 802.11n extenders around the house. I am being told I cannot use the newer 802.11ac Extemes because it would not work with the DDNS Security stuff. What do I do to maximize speeds from Wifi and keep the DDNS stuff?
What do I do to maximize speeds from Wifi and keep the DDNS stuff?
For maximum Wi-Fi speeds only, use all 802.11ac devices ... both wireless routers & wireless clients. For full DDNS support, only use routers that support this feature.
For maximum overall bandwidth Internet-to-network client, use routers that support 1Gbps WAN-to-LAN & LAN-to-WAN interfaces. There are not many on the market currently that supports this. Also these routers should provide Gigabit Ethernet on both the WAN & LAN sides.
To get an idea of what's available, please check out the SmallNetBuilder's to compare routers. -
im trying to sync notes on my iPhone and iPad with my new MacBook pro.
Although I don't see the generic "apple notes ap" on the macbookpro. Any suggestions?eww,
When I first opened the mail i didn't have the option of the "go to" and choose notes because i hadn't created the mailbox. I 've only had the mac for 3 days. None the less I created the notes mailbox which apparently falls under "Reminders".
Will this "notes mailbox" eventually sync with my ipad and iphone. I have created several notes on the ipad but still don not see them in the "notes mailbox" on my mac?
Thks very much! -
TS3988 Trouble with Syncing with iCloud and my Mac (and iPhone)
I have moved my @me.com account to iCloud. Now it doesn't sync with any my devices. I can access iCloud itself and have full view of calendars, etc. They are incorrect as they are not synced with my Mac and doesn't update my iPhone. I have tried to check my account subscription but cannot find it on iCloud.
Can anyone help?
Warm regards
JeffWelcome to the Apple community.
First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings. -
Need tablet recommendation for use with CS6 and a Mac Mini
Hello all,
I'm running CS6 on a Mac MIni with OS X 10.8.3. I want to start learning graphic design entry on Illustrator and Photoshop and all I've read indicates use of a tablet is de rigueur. Can anyone recommend a medium to top-end tablet that is compatible with the Mac Mini and CS6? Apple's site only shows the Wacom Bamboo Splash tablet but doesn't give any hint whether it would work with the Adobe tools.
Thanks,
Kevin H.Actually it depends on how you like to work and what exactly you're after.
Illustrator can be used with a mouse only when you do just construction work, like using the shape tools, the pen tool, pathfinder functions, transformations and all those other tools that serve the need for exact results.
In case you'd like to draw stuff intuitively like doing water color, calligraphy, sketching then you would definitely need a tablet.
A tablet can also replace a mouse in case you want to reduce a strain on your hand, arm and fingers. Some people prefer styluses in this case.
Is any of these the case for you? -
Airport express with Snow and wired Mac Mini?
Hi,
I am trying to help my parents set up airport express.
They have a Mac Mini with no wireless card connected by ethernet to a Snow base station. That is fine, and computer sees the base station in Airport Admin. However, when I try to go to Airport Setup Assistant to set up the Airport Express, I get a message saying that the computer doesn't have a wireless card (which I know) and doesn't allow me to continue.
Is there a known thing where you can't use Airport Express with a Snow base station without a wireless card? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!Nevermind, I guess I answered my own question.

Best Airport Extreme Wireless Radio Mode with Old and New Macs and PC
I'm running Airport Utility 5.3.2 and am running / connecting to the Internet with a new Airport Extreme 802.11n Gigabit Ethernet (the new squared off one) with "Version 7.3.2".
In addition to my new MacBook Black (which has 802.11n, I have two other older Maxs that run 802.11b/g (and also a PC that has 802.11.b/g/n).
Currently, the Airport Extreme's "Wireless" "Radio Mode" is set to
802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)
But, reviewing the Radio Mode menu, I see there are a number of choices that seem "faster" - 802.11n only (2.4 GHz), 802.11n (802.11a compatible) and 802.11n only (5 GHz).
Can I set the Radio Mode to any of these other settings and still have my older Macs (and the PC) connect to the internet using this Airport Extreme? Or, do I have to leave my Airport Extreme Radio Mode set to what appears to be a slower speed 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible) setting to allow others to use this Airport Extreme Base Station?
FWIW, I do have an older Airport 802.11g version 5.7 still connected and set up and the older computers can / could connect through that. However, I was hoping to give that one to a friend for their use elesewhere and wanted to have only one Airport Extreme set up at my house."you'll use N+B/G at 2.4 GHZ."
I guess you means that I should continue with my current setting on the Airport Extreme - which is "802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)" - if I want all my computers to access the web via the Extreme. Correct?
I'm too much of a novice to try a "bridge" mode setup.
However, your suggestion (I think) "It would be more reliable and faster speed if you could connect both routers to using ethernet" does give me hope.
My Verizon Fios modem is actually a router. Indeed, I have my TiVo box connected to the Fios modem/router.
If I connect BOTH of my Airport Base Stations to the Fios modem/router and then do the following:
(1) set the newer "Extreme" Base Station to "802.11n only (5 GHz)" and
(2) keep the older Base Station (running 802.11g) as is
then my (and others') newer computer(s) with 802.11n can connect at high speed via the Extreme and older computers can still connect using the older Base Station.
Correct?

SG300-20 - Problems with Forwarding and Learning MACs until Write
I have an SG300-20 and started having problems a few weeks ago. Primarily the problem is related to rebooting systems, waking systems from sleep, or any other activity such as speed/duplex changes on the host that cause the host NIC to cycle. Regardless of how the host NIC "goes down", when the host NIC "turns up" it shows connected on the host and switch, but the SG300 refuses to learn the MAC. The only remedy seems to be the write command. Immediately after the write command is issued there is delay from 0 to a few seconds, then L2 connectivity returns.
Also, a new problem cropped-up during testing after changing the mode to "route." If I reload the switch it stops forwarding all traffic until a write command is issued.
Anyone see these symptoms and have a solution?
Thanks,
JeffJeff, I can't recreate this.

Form will not open with adobe reader when using chrome and mozilla
The form opens fine in internet explorer, but when opened with chrome and mozilla it says that parts of the document could not be displayed and the 'submit form' and 'print' functions do not work? how do I get it so that the forms open with adobe reader as a pdf automatically instead of opening in another search engine tab?
ThanksHi
Chrome and Firefox use their default PDF viewers instead of Adobe Acrobat / Reader and hence most PDFs will not be fully functional in those.
For that you just need to change the settings :-

Little more can be added to the above. The warning screen says, 'A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time.'
I have gone though all the libraries and preferences I can find and removed everything to do with Firefox and Mozilla - it was the first install of Firefox on this drive.Do a clean (re)install:
* Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox. -
Seekbar bug with firefox browser on Mac
hi.
i found a bug in seekbar using Mac with mozilla firefox (but not with safari who works fine and also windows pc with IE and mozilla work fine).
i tried to visit www.opensourcemediaframework.com and to drag the seekbar and with the mouse clicked i exit from the flash stage where the video is playing.
i release the mouse but the seekbar dont't receive the mouse released event (and the stop drag) and if i try to move the mouse (not clicked) into the video area the seekbar continue to follow the mouse.
thanks a lot.hi.
only with mozilla on Mac, i have this:
page: http://www.opensourcemediaframework.com/
1. click whith button left of the mouse the thumb (the arrow) of the seekbar (button left clicked)
2. the player go to pause and i start to drag (button left clicked)
3. i move right the mouse (the thumb follow the mouse and video is paused - correct) (button left clicked)
4. i move down the mouse outside the stage of the video (button left clicked)
5. i release the mouse (unclick the button left): the video don't start because dont't receive the stop drag event
6. i move the mouse on the stage area of the video and the thumb of seekbar follow the mouse (continue the drag but the button left is not clicked)
7. so, i have to click on the thumb to stop the drag and the video go to play.
i don't receive any error message, it's only a not so correct behavior of seekbar drag.
With Windows IE and mozilla works fine, also with Mac Safari.
The problem is only (i think) for Mac platform with mozilla.
Thanks.
