JRE and Netscape???

Hi there
I am having quite a problem with a java chat not working with Netscape and it doesn't matter what version I try.
I am not the developer of this chat, I just design and hire out for the backend work. My programmers are telling me that this is a Netscape problem and not theirs .. I spoke with Netscape today for over an hour and they say it is not a Netscape problem but the chat programming.
Since I am not a technical person I don't know who to listen to!!
I am not even sure what info to provide you with here so that someone can give some advice .. but can get whatever answers are needed.
You can see this chat in operation at www.personalstoday.com and you can log in as user test pass 4220 into any neighbourhood.
The applet starts and works fine with IE but with Netscape it just continuously asks for the plug in and never seems to find it.
Any help would sure be appreciated!!
Have a great night
Wen

Hi,
You can see this chat in operation at
www.personalstoday.com and you can log in as user test
pass 4220 into any neighbourhood.
The applet starts and works fine with IE but with
Netscape it just continuously asks for the plug in and
never seems to find it.I tried logging into your chat using Mozilla 1.2 which is
about the same as Netscape 7. I am able to reproduce your
problem to this extent: Your page prompts me to install the
1.3 plug-in, even though I already have it installed. I
cannot get your applet to load.
I suspect that there is an error in the Javascript that
supports the plug-in. For Netscape, you should ultimately
use EMBED tags. I am not sure which set of EMBED tags
actually gets enforced in my situation. I did notice that
in one case you have
<EMBED type="application/x-java-applet;version=1.1" ...
Maybe it should be "1.3"?
Your Javascript is very complicated and I don't know how to
interpret it. The debugging approach would be to create a
set of simple versions targeted to each situation that the
Javascript is trying to distinguish. That might help isolate
which block of code is broken or is not being invoked in
the right circumstance.
I have an applet based on the 1.3 plug-in which works fine on
my system. Maybe you could see what I am doing differently?
http://www.thecia.net/users/hamilton/minemaster/
(The applet is the button "Play Minemaster" in the upper left
corner; pushing it should pop up a frame. The appearance of
the button is enough to know that the applet loaded.)
That's all I have to suggest.
Good luck!

    Dear sir,
    Well I am facing the problem regarding loading of applet in firefox,mozilla and netscape. Its working fine in IE6 I have the samplecode which asks for jdk1.4 whenever the applet gets loaded in IE6 and also it works fine for every browser but he is asking jre for every time whenever the page gets loaded even if the jre is installed. I need a code such that it should ask only if the jre is not installed. One more thing is it so that for mozilla or netscape the jre installation files are different.
    pls give the solution.

    Has anyone an idea what/why goes wrong and how the problem could be solved?Try upgrading your Java Runtime plug-in within Netscape. You're using
    1.4.0 and the latest Sun JRE version is 1.4.2
    (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html).
    Hope this works out for you.

  • Whats is difference between Java JRE  and  Java SDK

    Hi,
    what is the difference between Java JRE and Java SDK...
    i think both of them have the same set of files to be installed...
    I am not able to understand where they differ

    The JRE (Java runtime Environment) contains just the stuff necessary to run Java and the SDK (System Development Kit) contains the extra stuff necessary (and also helpful) to develop in Java.

  • My web site has a link which automatically configures an email. Doesn't work in Firefox 5.0 but OK in IE 8, Opera and Netscape. v

    My web site is generated by Second Site , author John Cardinal, and contains email links which when selected automatically createsan email which all you need to do is fill in the body and send it. This has worked in the past in Firefox and does work now using IE 8, Opera, and Netscape browsers but does not work when using my Firefox browser neither locally on my computer or in my Internet website. Firefox is my browser of choice. This has worked in the past using Firefox.
    My web site is www.schulteis.com/omnibus/. On the presentation page, on the bottom, where it identifies Genealogist: Site Administrator. Select it and it may work for you. John Cardinal tested it on his local machine and it worked for him. His response to me was,
    "It's very likely that this is some sort of browser configuration error, and it's probably related to using a web-based email client, In
    Firefox, look under Options > Applications and see how the "Mailto" Content type is configured. It should probably say "Use Yahoo Mail" [it does]. I have never configured a browser to use a web-base email client, so I can't help more than that.
    Since this works fine on my computer and on my Internet site when using browsers IE 8, Opera, and Netscape but not Firefox, and I didn't do anything special for any browser to cause it to work, don't know what I could have done wrong for Firefox.
    I am using Yahoo mail.

    I'm also running FF 36.0.4 on a Win 7 machine.  Here is what I see when I "open" the map (from the server - not inside DW):
    The map area stays white with no image even after several minutes.  The cursor does change to a hand when over the area where the map should be and if I click and drag there the cursor switches to the closed hand - so it's acting like the map is there and can be moved - but just no map shows up.
    I'll run it though the validator.  Thanks!

    Hi,all!
    What is the difference between j2sdk1.4.1_03/jre and j2re1.4.1_03?

  • Servlet  output correct in ie and netscape, but not in portal

    I have a servlet that retrieves and xml document, applies a
    stylesheet, and uses PrintWriter to output the html.
    When I run the servlet, the output is correct in ie and netscape.
    So, I set the servlet up as a web portlet and have put it on a
    portal page.
    My problem: When I run the portal page, the mdashes and
    rsquotes, etc. show up in portal as question marks.
    I went into the provider.xml and added some information
    (contentType,charset), but that had no effect.
    Ideas appreciated.
    Thanks.

    I have been doing some research, and this appears to be some
    sort of character encoding/unicode problem.
    I have specified UTF-8 in my servlet. Does portal not work with
    UTF-8?
    Is there a setting somewhere that I can check in portal to
    verify what character encoding it is using? (ISO-8859-1, US-
    ASCII, etc?)
    This is a sample of my servlet code:
    public void DoGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServlet
    Response,response)
    throws ServletException, IOException
    DOMParser parser;
    XMLDocument xml,xsldoc;
    URL xslURL,xmlURL;
    String xmld = "";
    String xsld = "";
    response.setContentType("text/html;charset=UTF-8");
    PrintWriter out = response.getWriter();
    try
    parser = new DOMParser();
    parser.setPreserveWhitespace(true);
    xslURL = createURL(xsld);
    parser.parse(xslURL);
    xsldoc = parser.getDocument();
    xmlURL = createURL(xmld);
    parser.parse(xmlURL);
    xml = parser.getDocument();
    XSLStylesheet xsl = new XSLStylesheet(xsldoc,xslURL);
    XSLProcessor processor = new XSLProcessor();
    processor.processXSL(xsl,xml,out);
    Any advice appreciated.

  • Different result in IE and Netscape

    Hi,
    I am using JDeveloper 3.2 to create my JSP and BC4J. I deployed them into my web server, but I got different result in IE and Netscape. I amd using web bean method to create my JSP.
    When I view my JSP from IE, everything looks as expected. But when I view them from Netscape, some pages did not display correctly.
    1. For the JSTab, the Netscape displays different color(blue) in the help text area, but the IE display gray color.
    2. If I have a table with many columns (e.g.25) to be displayed and my browser is too small to display them all, the Netscape displays JSRowSetBrowser incorrectly. The top right corner, and bottom right corner did not display at the last column side, instead it displaying in the middle of my JSRowSetBrowser. It also suppressed my one button in the same page. IE displays them all properly.
    How do I fix this problem? Please help.
    I am using webapp/cabo/images/cabo_styles.css as my style sheet.

    I'm not an expert on Netscape, but I would guess that you're problems are simply caused by the differences between IE and NS.
    It is very difficult to write (functional) JS code that works perfectly between the two of them and I bet that JSTab isn't written in such a way.
    You may want to try using your own tab object, we do this by creating a page for each tab and making the actual tabs be links to each page. This avoids the use of JavaScript.
    Good Luck!!!

  • DW CS3 Display problem in Firefox and Netscape

    I have a page created using css. I have a div wrapper set at
    100% for height and width and it has a background image. It
    displays correctly in IE, but in Firefox and Netscape it has a
    white bar along the top. I don't have this online yet, so I know it
    is difficult without seeing it or seeing the css, but any ideas are
    welcome. If there is something, aside from the site being online
    that would help to identify the issue let me know. As always, I
    appreciate any and all ideas.
    Thank you.

    100% height isn't going to work, you know?

  • Install JRE and OpenJDK Side-by-Side [Unecessary - So Solved]

    As far as I know this is impossible, but if there is a way to install JRE and OpenJDK side-by-side, that would be great.
    The reason I would like this is that there is a specific webserver I access that simply will not work with OpenJDK. It's a known issue that may or may not be fixed any time soon. On the other hand, I would like to install freeCAD, but this depends on OpenJDK and not JRE.
    So as of right now, there is no way for me to have freeCAD installed and access this webserver. Now if JRE and OpenJDK were installed side by side, then this wouldn't be a problem. The other option, is letting users install freeCAD with and OpenJDK or JRE dependency, whichever best suits them.
    Is anybody else in a similar boat as this?

    Where do you see this requirement?  I don't see anything that specifically depends on openjdk6.  The only java deps I see are in opencascade.  It depends on java-runtime and makedepends on java-environment, which can be satisfied by jre + jdk.
    When I went to install, it was forcing me to install OpenJDK and uninstall JRE.
