JRE install hangs for 15 minutes

Mighty all,
We see this behaviour for already quite some time (since JRE 1.6.24 for sure). Silent installation on Win7 x32 hangs for 10-15 minutes and then continues. When digging through the install log I see this:
MSI (s) (AC:E8) [10:55:02:585]: Validating digital signature of file 'C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\jre1.6.0_25\Data1.cab'
MSI (s) (AC:E8) [10:55:15:143]: Skipping file hash comparison as no hash was provided for the comparison for file 'C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\jre1.6.0_25\Data1.cab'.
Any thoughts what might be causing this?
Many thanks in advance!
Alex

Back to this thread, we continue to see this problem every now and then, and here are more details:
It looks like the .exe wrapper does not detect completion of the MSI installer part (and the log actually reports "MainEngineThread is returning 0" and then "verbose logging stopped").
I have made a full dump of the "idle" installer after msi part is completed and have installation log too - if someone from the java team could look into it, will be greatly appreciated.
Roger, answering your question re. case: unfortunately our support contract with oracle does not cover java support, so my case opening request has not been completed.

  • CS4 randomly hangs for many minutes at a time

I've been doing a number of editing jobs on CS4 for a while now. Started out on a mac but happened to have a pretty decent Windows 7 system on hand so I decided to use that. Here are the specs:
    Windows 7 (64-bit)
    Intel quad-core i7
    6 GB RAM
    CS4 installed on 1TB C drive
Project files and scratch disk on striped volume consisting of 3 500GB SATA drives
This setup was performing spendidly on the first few projects I did, but seems to be bogging down as I work on more projects, even though the available disk space doesn't seemed to have changed much. It seems to bog down more on large projects.
What I'm noticing is that as I browse source files and try to set in/out points etc., CS4 will play for a little while and then hang for many minutes at a stretch. It will eventually come back and be usable for a short while but then hang again.
The strange thing is that when it is hung, the system resource monitor shows that the CS4 process is not responding, but it shows very low CPU usage on all cores and no surge in memory usage. Disk I/O also remains relatively low, leaving me at a loss to explain the hangs. I experienced something very similar on CS4 for mac when dealing with these same projects.
The projects have a lot of DV footage split into 2.6GB chunks that I am concatenating together. They also have some HD MJPEG AVIs that I captured using a Black Magic Intensity Pro card.
I should also add that when I finally do get the projects finished and start rendering them, the rendering is very fast overall, which confirms my theory that my machine's performance is more than adequate and these hangs are due to bugs and I/O bottlenecks in CS4 itself.
Needless to say, this is very frustrating. I have less of a problem if a program needs to do something and explains to me why I need to wait while it does it, but I don't like my programs to go away for hours without telling me where they're going.
Adobe people, if you're listening, please respond to this. I have seen a number of other complaints about similar issues. At least let us know if you're aware of these issues and what you are doing about it.
    Thanks,
    Carl

Well, any progress is good, eh? For MJPEG's, most of us will recommend either the MainConcept, or the Morgan. I wonder how the BM MJPEG CODE's would work, without the card - just thinking there? BTW - more users like the MainConcept by a few.
As far as Adobe goes, if they are going to put up a forum, in my opinion, they should be actively monitoring it and responding to issues. Otherwise it becomes more of a liability than an asset and merely serves to call attention to their own obliviousness.
You make a good point, but I feel that Adobe sees these as an asset in that the best T/S work is done by other users. I always suggest that anyone having any issue with an Adobe product, stop by the fora first. Most never need to go any farther. For tons of free T/S, Adobe pays for the servers and the administration of the fora.
Still, and this is between just you and me, I'd love to hear that there are some "monitors," who do read. As I mentioned, this forum is blessed to have the few Adobe employees, that we do. Photoshop has Chris Cox, one of the developers of PS. Even in his role, however, I believe that he only offers solutions and explanations, and does not "take notes." One exception was when he was compiling a list of "problem fonts" for PS, and asked for contributions with full details on what problems they caused.
When a new upgrade, or an update is issued, we do see more Adobe representation here. It usually starts with a post that something is coming out, and as many details, as are possible to divulge, are given. As we draw closer to the release date, more details are often forthcoming. This presence usually stays until after the release, and we get to comment from the trenches, how the update/upgrade works. Then, I know that notes are being taken. After a bit, that presence fades (as far as we can tell, but who knows?). Sometimes I wonder about those shadows on the wall in the Video Lounge... oh wait, those are just grease stains from the yoodles.
Good luck on your Project, and please keep us updated. My brain just keeps coming back to the MJPEG's, but they probably are not part of the issue.

  • Visual Studio Update 2 hangs for 13 minutes on "Creating a system restore point..."

It appears that Visual Studio 2012 Update 2 hangs for a long period of time before it tries to create a system restore point.  Should I create a Microsoft Connect issue for this?
    Here is what I did:
I created a new Windows 8 x86 Virtual Machine using VirtualBox.  I installed Visual Studio 2012 and Update 1 because Update 2 was not yet out.  I came back 1 week later and tried to install Visual Studio Update 2.
When I ran the installer on the Virtual machine, it hung for seemingly 10 minutes at "Creating a system restore point..." I powered off the virtual machine and disabled system restore.  I then ran with the /layout option on the host machine
so I could pre-download the files.  Then I tried again.
Again, it hung.  This time I let it go.  It hung for exactly 13 minutes before it gave up and continued on to the install.  The log file says this:
    [0EBC:0F90][2013-04-18T12:39:36]: Apply begin
    [0EBC:0F90][2013-04-18T12:39:36]: MUX:  Apply Phase Begin
    [0EBC:0F90][2013-04-18T12:39:36]: MUX:  -----------------
    [0EBC:0F90][2013-04-18T12:39:36]: MUX:  Metrics: ShouldSendData=False
[0EBC:0F90][2013-04-18T12:39:36]: MUX:  Free Disk Space before install:  SystemDrive C:\ 32519413760 bytes  AppDrive C:\ 32519413760 bytes
[01F4:0748][2013-04-18T12:52:34]: Creating a system restore point.
[01F4:0748][2013-04-18T12:52:34]: Could not create system restore point, error: 0x80070422. Continuing...
NOTE: Although it says "Creating a system restore point" at 12:52, it actually displayed the message on the screen at 12:39.  That indicates that it was really doing something else during those 13 minutes, not creating the restore point.
That is corroborated by the fact that it took a long time regardless of system restore being on or off.
If no one has any information or explanation, I will create an issue on Microsoft Connect.

I have the same issue. Visual Studio 2013 Professional update 2 was not installed from Web installer. Rather I downloaded a trial version and now want to uninstall it. However, I let the uninstaller try to create a Restore Point all night while I slept.
Next day, not done. So I clicked cancel, and it then commenced to create a restore point for the cancel. I did let the cancel run for awhile but I rebooted.
I then researched something on how to disable the restore point security on my drive, but that did not deter Visual Studio from trying to protect me and it TRIES to create a restore point before uninstalling. Just hangs forever. I don't need a restore point
for an eval copy of VS, thank you very much. Perhaps a simple dialog ("Do you want to create a restore point?") would be helpful?
Update: turning off Windows Defender fixed the problem.

  • SOAP requests hang for 5 minutes. Why?

As a first step in using the SOAP features integrated in Java 6 I went through the JAX-WS 2.0 tutorial at http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/J2SE/jax_ws_2/.
I created the simple webservice as well as the client (I am not using the Netbeans IDE but I did the corresponding in my IDE).
I started the service in a local VM and started the local client application as well.
What's really odd is: the service and the client worked on first attempt (and I verified this by inserting println statements into the code), but the return of the result always hangs for pretty exactly 5 minutes (by when - I guess - some timeout strikes).
I.e. the client issues the request and the server-side gets called practically immediately, but the result is passed back to the client only 5 minutes later.
At first I had thought, that things didn't work, but when I got distracted and later returned to my screen I found, that my WebService requests had actually worked as designed.
But why does the return of the response take 5 minutes? Any ideas, anybody?
    Michael

I've seen similar behavior, but not on every invocation. In my case:
    1) Nightly backups were starting at 5:30PM every day - every request then timed out;
    2) Our development servers were virtual machines - they were often slow to wake up.
Otherwise, the web services responded normally.

  • Why does my OS X 10.6.8 have various applications hang for several minutes, then resume. This is not a startup problem.

I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.6.8 a few weeks ago. It seemed to be running OK, so we upgraded another system also. Now both machine are, from time to time, stalling whatever application is running. Everything stops or runs veeeeeeerrrrrry slowly for several minutes even including bringing other windows to the front. The disk runs almost like it is swapping a lot. Then the system frees up and runs normally for a while. This is not a startup problem. I occurrs on systems that have been running for a day or two or more. It happens on an iMac and on a MacBookPro. Neither of them had this behavior before the 10.6.8 upgrade.

    Jocke27 wrote:
What do you mean with corrupt?
Why did you suggest that I created a new profile?
There are cache files and other system files that are created every time a user account is created.  Sometimes these are corrupted in the OS and it really has no bearing on the specific application but it can lead to erratic behavior.  Creating a new user recreates all these system files and thus it's almost like starting fresh.  It's one step shy of re-installation of an OS.  So because changing the user fixed the issue, then we have eliminated the fact that the application is causing the error and we know the OS is causing the error.
I can't just go in to that profile when I want to use?
I wouldn't recommend it.  This can lead to more problems with the OS down the road with other applications and depending on where the corruption lies it can lead to issues with OS upgrades or even installing new software.  The files that are typically most critical to users are stored in the Applications folder or the Documents/Sites/Pictures folders.  You can easily drag them over to a new user account.  If you have email being backed up for a product like Thunderbird you can also bring over many of the Library items as well.

  • X-fi XtremeMusic - Full Installation Option - Windows hangs for two minutes on shutdo

I chose the full installation option for the x-fi xtrememusic soundcard, it installs fine, however after I restart my computer or shutdown, it hangs at "saving your settings" for about two minutes. I checked the "event viewer" in Windows XP Home SP2 and it has a entry stating:
Windows saved user SONY\"My User" registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.
This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
However, I then tried the minimum install, and it doesn't hang on shutdown/restart.

If I don't manage to fix this, I will reinstall windows xp but I hope I don't have to go to all that trouble.

  • JRE Install hangs Windows XP Pro!

    Sorry for being so lame.
It is the first time I'm trying to get myself started to deal with Java.
From the first approach it doesn't seem to be friendly as I was unable to even install the thing.
I'm running jre-1_5_0_06-windows-i586-p.exe and I'm ending with totaly hung Windows. It is totaly and deadly stopped. No mouse, no keyboard, no any signs of life at all.
I thought I might be doing it not in proper order, so I tried to install this jdk-1_5_0_06-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe. It seems to be installed with no problem eve though I don't see any use of it without having JRE or JVM running.
I also noticed that disclaimer note (or whatever it was) of JRE had a scrollbar at the right side. I tried to read it by scrolling it and it was just repeating the last line of text which I had already seen before scrolling.
Sorry again for being so lame, but could anyone be so kind and tell me where is that magical jawa-setup-kit to start from and have NO Windows XP hung ?

    Woohoo!
I've found the solution for blanc white screens.
But first I needed to get rid of broken JVM I had installed before. To do this I simply deleted all relevant files from my harddrive and voila! I was able to start everything again.
I disabled all hardware acceleration on my graphics card (nVidia 6800GS). It helped.
This time I installed NetBeans+JDK bundle stright away, without trying to understand the difference between SDK, JDK and "Application Server".
At least I could SEE something.
Oh yes! I saw it! It looks almost exactly as MS Visual Studio. The only disappointing thing was having NO html preview. But the good thing was that I was able to RUN Web-oriented "Hello World!"
    The story doesn't end here.
I have another tool to try "Sun Java Studio Creator". According to my expectations this one should show me the preview or some kind of Visual Design mode for html editing.
Just guess what have I done first.
Bingo! I tried to close NetBeans.
    Guess what happened...
Bingo! It HUNG MY WINDOWS AGAIN!
"Never Giveup" is one of my principles which never let me down.
So I rebooted my computer again and started installation of magical "Sun Java Studio Creator". It was going well and for my pleasure it let me have a cigarette instead of asking me a lot stupid questions. It was the goood side of it. But there was the dark side as well. Once the progress indicator reached "100%" guess what...
    IT HUNG MY WINDOWS AGAIN!
It is very good to have good principles, but I'm getting tired as it's getting late. It is almost midnight and my Java-tutorial is doing its best to turn this night into the real nightmare.
So far I'm having my computer restarted again and I've found where the magical "Sun Java Studio Creator" was hiding from me. I said hiding because I could not see anything in Start Menu. I found it and I ran it.
It worked! It has a really nice face with nice looking html-preview. I like it!
    Guess what.
Yeah! The thing doesn't really like me. I tried to run almost empty Web-project with only "Hello world!" typed in very first form. What could be the simplier task for mega-super-powerful-design-tool ?!
It failed to start Application Server and sent mr to read the log.
I have a couple of logs on my backyard, but I definetely have no idea which one to read. I also have no idea what is Application Server and where is its log. Was it that hard to say where to look for one?
Any way. This thing is really making me angry. So I'm downloading "Application Server" and trying to set it up individually, presuming it could not run because my last installation process ended with DEAD WINDOWS.
    Guess what happened this time...
Of course! You wouldn't fail to read my mind this time!
Of course it HUNG MY WIDOWS AGAIN!
What else should I turn off on my PC to be able to install whole Magical-JAVA-megapackage ?
May be I should remove my graphic card at all?
What about HDD, RAM and CPU?
    I don't know.
What I do know that this night my dreams will be kind of nightmare with JAVA-bucconeers chasing me to HANG UP MY WINDOWS again and again.
    PLEASE HELP ME!
PLEASE HURRY UP BEFORE IT STUCKED MY PC COMPLETELY!

  • Tiger Install Hangs @  "About 2 Minutes - Running iWeb Instaler Script"

...what now??? ..this happened last friday ..i forced it to powe down because it hung for alomst an hour @ "2 minutes left" ..today i started up the macbookpro and it asks for the 2nd install CD and starts intalling all over agin.. and now.. its hanging at the same spot.. any ideas on this? ..i was so excited to start using my new macbookpro

    I have the same problem:
After an update to 10.4.8 on my MacBook Pro caused Keychain access to crash, and therefore rendered Wireless Internet, Safari, Mail, and Adress Book unusable (crashed also), I tried to re-install the original software.
Now the installer hangs since a few hours with the iWeb application Installer script, "about 2 minutes" remaining.
Any ideas how to install a working system on this computer ?

  • Some applications starting slowly / hang for a minute after launching

    Hi!
For some time now, some applications are starting really slowly. The ones I could identify by now are Apple Pages, Microsoft Excel and Wofram's Mathematica. When I click the respective icon to start the application, the dock symbol jumps and everything looks fine, the system doesn't hang but when the just started application is active (its name appears on top, next to the Apple logo), the mouse cursor turns to the famous spinning beach ball when I move it to the top of the screen. The same happens when I just close an Document and create a new one (when all Pages documents are closed, the program presents all the templates; when I choose one, it hangs).
This behaviour doesn't appear everytime, but very often, so it is repeatable. I can't identify some point in time when this started, I don't think it has something to do with the 10.4.6 or 10.4.7 update. Pages is the newest version, as is Excel. Mathematica is version 5.2.0. I absolutely have no idea where to start to look for a reason for all this. I hope that someone here can help me!
    Thanks in advance,
    Marco
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi!
    Thanks for your answer too!
    1) Run Disk Utility and Repair Permissions on your hard drive.
Did that, some permissions were corrected (as always...)
    2) Boot from your Tiger install disc and run Disk Utility and use the Repair Disk option on your hard drive.
After checking the disk, the Utility said that everything is fine.
    1) You mentioned that this problem has been going on
for some time now. Can you think of any software
that you installed or software that you updated at
the time that you first noticed this behavior?
Unfotunately, I can't. This started about 3-4 weeks ago but I absolutely can't remember installing or doing something special that falls into the same region of time.
    2) Do you run any kind of system hacks/optimizing software?
No, not as far as I know. I don't think that I ever installed some piece of software that really alters something in terms of the system itself (except for TinkerTool System, but I didn't start that in months)
    3) What programs do you typically have open all of the time?
Mail and Safari are running all the times; other applications I'm using frequently are TextWrangler, X11, XCode, Terminal and World of Warcraft, among others.
(Almost) Sure Fire Solution to this problem: [...]
I knew that this was coming up
Of course, a complete reinstall is a solution I don't really like. I got my iBook last October, so this installation is running for 9 months now. But as everything else is fine, I really don't want to format my HD and do it the hard way.
By the way: I tried a few more applications and surprisingly, Apple Keynote, MS Word and MS Powerpoint don't hang after starting up. I also deleted all iWork and MS Office related stuff in ~/Library/Preferences and still no luck...

  • Mac - after updating creative cloud, all apps have disappeared from "apps" and attempts to install hang for long time.

I recently updated the Creative Cloud app, and suddenly I get a message that I have not yet downloaded any apps. They are all right there in my applications folder, but not in my CC desktop app. When I attempt to install any app, it hangs at 40 or 42% forever..... Please help.

    Thanks for your response, John,
I'm not sure what browsers and firewall have to do with this issue. I have been using Creative Cloud as a desktop app since first subscribing to the Adobe Creative Cloud, and downloaded all of the apps that I use on a daily basis way back then. The only change between seeing all of my apps and not seeing any of them was updating the actual Creative Cloud app itself. There were no other changes. Here is a screen shot of what I saw when attempting to update Acrobat. Below that are two screen shots that may be a signal that my Creative Cloud app is corrupt. Please let me know how to proceed.
This hung at 42% for about half an hour....
    This seems quite odd....
    InDesign seems normal...

Today, I was able to open the older version of the template if I only viewed the code first.  So I was able to narrow it down to one change I had made.  I had changed:
    <link href="/css/960grid.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
    to:
    <link href="http://mydomain.com/css/960grid.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
When I tried to save the document, Dreamweaver hanged.  The document opened fine with all of the other changes I had made, although it couldn't find the CSS files (I had moved the site to another root locally).
This really looks like a bug in Dreamweaver to me.  I've seen CSS links like this in other people's websites, so it does look like valid CSS to me.  Is there a workaround for this?

  • Forte hangs for several minutes

We are talking 5 minutes where my CPU is pegged at 100%.
    It happens fairly often.
Today, "runide" has consumed about *45* minutes of CPU time.
This happened before, and I cleaned up some of the files it had created, and the problem seemed to go away.
However, it is back, and I can't seem to make it go away again. :-(
    Environment:
    Intel P3 1.2GHz, 1 Gig RAM
    Windows 2000 Professional (Build 2195; SP2)
Hooking into BEA WebLogic 6.1 (w/ JDK 1.3.1)
Forte for Java 4, Community Edition (Build 020624)
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    n8

Thanks for the reply - that was an interesting link, especially the info about Linux. :-)
Unfortunately, I don't think any of that will help me. I have plenty of memory (1 Gig) and I don't think the issue is garbage collection, 'cause I reboot the machine every few days. Furthermore, when it got really bad the first time, I rebooted the machine, and the problem appeared immediately after I started everything back up. :-(
I believe there is something inherent about Forte that causes itself to slow down after continued usage.
Maybe creating and destroying breakpoints is related to the problem? That is something that increases over time, and I can't seem to find where these settings are stored.
Does anybody know where the breakpoints are stored?
    Thanks,
    Nate

Does it happen only one client or happens from all admin client?
Usually, it happens when communication is lost. It should not happen but sometimes it happen.

  • I have received numerous requests from Firefox to download security updates. In each case, I have been unable to connect to the server-it just hangs for 45 minutes or more. Any suggestions? I'm running Snow Leopard, latest update.

Macbook Pro purchased prior to Feb, 2011

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.
