JRE update 7 win32 pulled?

On June 2nd, I downloaded update 7 of the JRE (5.0) for win32.
Recently, I checked this page:
http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
and now only update 6 is available. Would someone be kind enough to
tell me what happened to Update 7?
Even better, is there somewhere on the Sun site where this is noted?
Thanks much for any advice.

Thank you for the pointer to the other site. I will check there in the future.
I've been using that "strange Sun website" for a while. The update 7 I downloaded
from it matches the download from the pointer you gave. java.com is registered to
Sun, so I would guess something is simply amiss with the downloads.

  • JRE Update regarding Daylight Savings Time changes

    Hi,
Is there a JRE Update to be released anytime soon dealing with the US Daylight Savings Time changes?
A similar update was released for the DST changes in Australia (JRE 1.5.0 Update 6). The link to information page is:
    http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/Intl/AusTimeZone/
If there is an update coming for US, when would it be?
    Thanks,
    Vinay.

If you had read through the bugs related to the one
whose link was in the post just before yours, you
    would have seen this one:
    http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=639
    1777
which appears to answer your question. If I read the bug report right, a fix was made to JDK 1.3.1 to handle the Australia situation. Are you pointing me to the workaround or a potential fix for the US timezone issue?
The bug report says: "This fix is based on tzdata2006a." Does this tzdata file include an entry for the March 2007 onwards change in the US?

  • Recommended Latest JRE Update to Install

I'm aware the latest available Java JRE is [Version 6 Update 16 (6u16)|http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp], and is downloadable here.
However, if relying solely upon the target system's installed Java JRE's updater [Control Panel > "Update" tab > "Update Now" button], the latest is v1.6.0_15 (6u15). This is also corroborated when the [online web updater|http://www.java.com/en/download/dt_verify.jsp?plugin=true&latest=true&users_jre=1.6.0_15] is run, where there it states:
    Congratulations!
You have the recommended Java installed (Version 6 Update 15).
I have reviewed the [release notes|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/webnotes/6u16.html] of Version 6 Update 16 (6u16), and do see the following there:
    Bug Fixes
This feature release does not contain any new fixes for security vulnerabilities to its previous release, Java SE 6 Update 15. Users who have Java SE 6 Update 15 have the latest security fixes and do not need to upgrade to this release to be current on security fixes.
Based on all the above, I clearly get it:
    Available latest................v1.6.0_16 (6u16)
    Recommended latest.......v1.6.0_15 (6u15)
However, now my question: How strongly is recommended, recommended? The reason I ask is there's a software update monitoring tool I use (I'd rather not say which) that dispositions Java JRE as out-of-date based on the available versus the recommended version.
I'd very much appreciate hearing some qualified opinions as to which is best to base latest determination upon. I plan on suggesting to the publisher of this monitoring tool that they incorporate an additional "recommended" version distinction in order to keep ALL users fully advised, as opposed to choosing only one or the other. But absent that, and a choice had to be made, which would be advised.
Thanks in advance for your input.

  • Annoyance - latest Java JRE update too automated

I am quite annoyed that someone somewhere made a choice that took away an install option I've relied upon and has suddenly made life much more difficult. In the past, whenever I chose to or wanted to update my runtime environment, I was able to manually invoke the update (I always turn the auto-update service off!!!). Then, during the update install, there USED to exist a checkbox providing an option to install the update to a location OF MY CHOICE as opposed to the much-abused "Program Files" location. Why was this option removed from the latest version of the update? I now am forced to walk through all my registry entries and hope I find all references to this crap and change them to the location I EXPECT and INSIST on the update existing. On a number of production systems, I have chosen to uninstall or not even allow the update because I don't know what else you broke and am not willing to spend an inordinate time going through an elaborate test cycle wasting unfunded, overtaxed and much-beleagured resources.
I beseech you as a long-time Java developer, a Sun shareholder, and avid advocate of the mighty Sun - please bring me back my choice of install location for the JRE update!

In most forums that is not the case.
It has been my experience that most JRE updates are not simple in-place patches. Rather, the update is a complete self-contained install of the JRE files. I have ALWAYS used the checkmark option and place each update in a folder specific to that update. This way, I've been able to isolate JRE version compatibility in my production systems and it has allowed my staff to manage our runtime environments. This last update did not provide me with the option as all the other updates since 1.4 have.
Certainly sounds reasonable. Someone at Sun thinks it is a patch though. The bug that was opened above has been closed by specifically noting that it is a patch.
So in terms of your goal you would probably need to write a wrapper that going forward allows them to differentiate an update that allows for an alternative location and one that does not.

Thanks but i have already tried the steps you have said. It doesnt detect because the applet fails. I have tried going into Java settings and into Advanced> Applet Tag support and enabling Mozilla/Netscape. But it just brings up the error cannont detect browser settings make sure installed etc. It use to work on JRE Update 4, so i went back to that version but no luck. I only have that version of Java installed. Theres no other java versions i could find. When you go into settings on Java, and you can click java applet runtime settings, the Java runtime parameters box is empty, is that normal?

  • Can't get spreadsheet report with JRE update 27 and up

oracle forms reports 10g r2. client: IE 8, win xp sp3, jre 1.6 update 29. server: win 2003.
I have a few reports rendering spreadsheet format, I ran those reports in forms, and get the report result with web show document and getjobid, then browser window crashed, failed to show the spreadsheet report. pdf report is fine though.
worked before JRE update 25. any idea?
    much thanks.

Well, you haven't really shared enough information, so we can jus offer a guess.
    I. Did you uninstall all old JRE versions before installing the new one?
    2. How exactly are you attempting to open an Excel doc in the browser? In other words, are you just calling the Excel doc? Have you attempted to set the mime type...? Example:
    -- Send to Excel?
            If v_excel = 'yes' Then
         mimetype := '&mimetype=application/vnd.ms-excel';
            End if;
WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT('/reports/rwservlet/getjobid'||substr(v_rep,instr(v_rep,'_',-1)+1)||'?'||'server='||v_repServerName || mimetype,'_blank'); 3. Exactly which version of Forms are you using?
    4. Exactly which version of Office/Excel is installed on the client?
    5. You claimed this worked with 1.6.0_25. Have you tried to uninstall _29 and resintall _25 in order to verify your suspicion? I doubt the JRE version is the cause of the problem in this case.

  • How to keep JRE updated on clients

I deal with multiple clients, and it's a real pain trying to keep Java updated. In particular the users don't have administrative access, so they can't update directly. Those I give administrative access to updatet will usually install the various tool bars into the browser. Even if they could, users would be afraid to update when something pops up on their screen because of possibly installing something they don't want on their system. I have to find a way to automaticallly update JRE as I'm tired of dealing with malicious software getting in because of Java. Has anyone found a solution? I'd be very grateful.

You can do remote installations that utilized the silent install.

  • Does each quarterly Critical Patch Update (CPU) release has to go hand in hand (in sync) with specific desktop JRE updates in order to benefit (partially or fully) from the security fixes , or does each JRE update is independent of the CPU release?

Since the inceptions to the release dates to Java 7 posted at their website, we're curious if there is a dependency between the CPU update and the JRE client releases? Please explain and/or suggest the best practice approach to keeping both environments in sync. Thank you.

  • JRE update after sysprep fails

    Hi,
During our rollout of windows 7, we are having problems with JRE 7. We can install and update without any problems before sysprep. But after sysprep when a user tries to update it fails with "installation Interrupted". We setup logging the install and found MSI error 1603, with a reference to CustomAction InstallJava. Any1 have any experience with a situation like this?

    We found the issue!
Apparently our Symantec Endpoint Protection, anti-virus program, had a definition setting called:
"Prevent registration of new Browser Helper Objects (HIPS) [AC15]" that was causing the issue.
We disabled this and the problem completely disappeared.

  • JRE updating

We have developed a java application, at present we give the option for people to download jre 1.4.1 onto their machines. The problem is that most people don't know if they have a previous version of java running, so when they download jre 1.4.1 and over write their existing jre, they cause problems.
Is there away in which the jre install wizard can detect any previous versions and remove them befoire installing the lastest version, to prevent this over writing problem.
THANK YOU in advance for your help

    Please correct me if wrong.
There will be no problem if someone updates its JRE to latest version since each version is completely compatible with previous versions.
Old applications byte-compiled in older JRE versions still works fine, moreover, bug free in most cases. Example: an old application of mine had problems with first regular expression API appearence, in J2SE 1.4 but now with 1.4.1 the bug is gone and it works perfectly so I recommend to all people: "upgrade JRE always, as possible and without fear".
If they are in doubt about current JRE version, just need to open Java Console and check version before to run install wizard.
Regards and my apologies if wrong.

  • Handling JRE updates vs applet compatibility

    Hello,
Besides the RSS feed "http://blogs.sun.com/SDNProgramNews/feed/entries/atom?cat=%2FJava+SE+6+Update+N" is there another way to get notification of up coming release?
    Michael

Prior versions can be had by by going to java.sun.com, clicking on the J2SE (Core/Desktop) link, and scrolling to the bottom of the page.
The only automated mechanisms for installing specific JRE's (Java Plug-in) is in conjunction with the running of applets or WebStart programs. See the Java Plug-in Developer's Guide or the WebStart docs for the Java JRE version that would execute the automated installs for the details.

  • SCEP definition updates trying to pull from the Internet - poor behaviour

Most of our clients do NOT have the ability to just head out to the internet to get things (via proxy or otherwise) and as such, I have configured my Malware policy to use "Updates distributed from Configuration Manager" ONLY
I do NOT want it trying to get updates from ANYWHERE ELSE.
    Some aren't behaving. :(
I am seeing log entries that indicate that the client is trying to go out to the Internet to get the updates.

Anyone have any suggestions?  I don't want the machines to EVER try to go out to the internet when they are trying to update their SCEP defs.

Stop SCEP from downloading over the internet, uncheck the following locations:
    1. SCFEP Def Deployment (ADR if you have one) -
Download Setting: If software updates are not available on preferred distribution point or remote distribution point, download content from Microsoft Updates
    2. Client Setting (Endpoint Protection) [check your priority if you have more than 1]
Disable Alternet Sources (such as Microsoft Windows Update, ....) for the inital definition update on client computers.
    3. Asset and Compliance :Endpoint Protection, Antimalware Policies (check all that you have and priority)
Defintion Updates: If Configuration Manager is used as a source for definition update, clients will only update from alternate sources if definition is older than (hours)  Set this to 720.  This is the max, after this the machine will be forced
to pull from Microsoft to protect the machine.

  • OS X Yosemite 10.10 prompts for JRE update

I updated JRE however I still see a prompt for updating JRE, kindly help?

Which JRE? The latest is SE 8 update 25. Get it via the Java prefPane in System Preferences.
    27" i7 iMac (Mid 2011) refurb, OS X Yo (10.10), Mavs, ML & SL, G4 450 MP w/10.5 & 9.2.2

  • JRE update 6 audio

I have an applet that plays scales on various instruments and when i updated to the recent JRE (_6) there was no audio folder which is where the sound bank file is. When i copied the folder from a previous JRE over everything works fine. I have a link on my website which prompts people to download the latest JRE and my applet won't run because of the issue mentioned above. Anybody have any insights?

Look at the Supported System Configurations link in that version's Release Notes
