JRockit GC Question

We just upgraded our WL8.1 SP4 environment from JRockit 1.4.2_05 to 1.4.2_13. I am seeing differences in how GC is listed and wondering if these are known problems or if we installed the product incorrectly.
(1) GC Algorithm is listed differently. Under version 05, the console listed our GC as: JRockit Garbage Collection System currently running strategy: Generational, concurrent mark, concurrent sweep. For version 13, it reads bea.jmapi.Garbage.CollectorImpl@786402. Our GC type is -xgc:gencon.
(2) Total GC time is measuring differently. Under version 05, it looked liked the time was listed in hh:mm:ss:ms format and we never saw values in hh or mm fields (we restart servers every morning). For version 13, I am seeing high values in hh and mm fields -- example 96446:24:46:8. Is this a bug?
Thank you for any help you can provide.

Will try to upgrade JRocket version, but OS
will be more complicated due to internal structures.
I'll get back with results later, one of the problems
is that it occasionally takes more than 6 days until
it crashes, so tests take some time.
Anyway, I'll let you know when I have tested more,
Thansk for quick reply

  • Jrockit crash question

We're testing JRockit and it crashes after a few days,
after somewhere between 2-6 days of operation.
With crash I'm referring to that the process dies
completely and a .dump-file is produced (see below)
The system is pretty heavy used on a linux box
    and memory is rather tight.
    Any ideas?
    Here is a sample dump:
    ===== BEGIN DUMP =============================================================
JRockit dump produced after 2 days, 21:58:27 on Thu Jul 13 20:42:42 2006
    Additional information is available in:
    /home/qgate/qGate/jrockit.25022.dump
No snapshot file (core dump) will be created because core dumps have been
disabled. To enable core dumping, try "ulimit -c unlimited"
    before starting JRockit again.
If you see this dump, please open a support case with BEA and
supply as much information as you can on your system setup and
the program you were running. You can also search for solutions
to your problem at http://forums.bea.com in
    the forum jrockit.developer.interest.general.

Will try to upgrade JRocket version, but OS
will be more complicated due to internal structures.
I'll get back with results later, one of the problems
is that it occasionally takes more than 6 days until
it crashes, so tests take some time.
Anyway, I'll let you know when I have tested more,

  • Coherence and JRockit

We toyed with Coherence and JRockit last Friday.
Have a look at how a simple switch of JVM to JRockit improves both the performance AND predictability.

    Hi Nick,
There is an FAQ for JRockit that should answer your questions here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/jrockit/FAQ.html
As far as I know, none of us JRockit developers are actively monitoring this forum. I stumbled across this by chance. If you have any JRockit specific questions, it would be great if you could post them in the appropriate JRockit related forums:

  • JRockit 7.0 - support of createJavaVM

    Hi,
i tried to integrate JRockit VM into an application server environment starting JVM from C-Code with createJavaVM. But the create of JVM always fails. As far as I see jvm.dll contains an entry JNI_createJavaVM and my environment settings seem to be o.k.. So I expected, createJavaVM will work. What is going wrong on my site ? Is there any difference calling createJavaVM to Microsoft's JVM ?
Has anyone an idea to get rid of the problem. Thanks in advance.
    Kind regards
    Karlheinz

    Hi,
This should work as it is specified in the JNI specification. If it does not
then there is probably some error in JRockit. Can you send us your source
code that tries to load the JVM so that we can try this out and see what the
    problem is?
BTW, please send JRockit-related questions to the
    jrockit.developer.interest.general newsgroup instead.
    Thanks,

  • Coherence and network specifications

    Hi,
We are using Coherence 3.7.1 on 2 Linux VMs in replicated mode. Ths VMs are on 2 seperated physical machines.
In order to check the network between the 2 VMs we used the datagram_test.sh script. We have the numbers but we don't know if they are good.
Are there any guideline on how to test butlenecks in Coherence performance and if they are related to the network?
Is there any benchmark that can quantify the requirments from the network vs. number of update or data size?
    Thanks

  • Question on the JRockit Heap diagnostics information

Using the JRCMD, collected the JRockit Heap diagnostics data. Below is the output:
    --------- Detailed Heap Statistics: ---------
    69.5% 1240837k 316026 +1240837k [B
    8.5% 133278k 1562216 +133278k [C
What does [B and [C stand for?
what process is occupying this much of memory? What is B and C?

    That's a good question.
It's a user unfriendly way to say to byte and character arrays ;) It should be changed.
    From the VM spec:
    B byte
    C char
    D double
    F float
    I int
    J long

  • Question regarding JRockit

    Hi All,
    Question regarding JRockit.
I do not know this software nor am I a java developper.
What I would like to do is monitor JVM running inside OC4J in Oracle e-Business Suite.
Could this tool be use to do so?
Also, I think want I really need is JRockit Misson Control. Can I simply install JRMC or do I need to install JRockit then MC?
Thanks to share some lights :)

I am not sure if JRockit is ceritified with OC4J on EBS, but I seriously doubt it.
You could look into a utility called jvisualvm which resides in $JAVA_HOME/bin
    Documented here: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/visualvm/index.html

  • Jrockit 1.4.2_13 question, long pauses

    Hi folks,
We use Jrockit 1.4.2_13 on the coldfusion product CFMX. The version we are using requires a 1.4 JRE.
Jrockit in general works perfectly, and has far better performance for us than Sun's JRE. It will run for 7 hours processing tens of thousands of servlets without a single notable pause.
However, once or twice a day it just stops processing. For about a 2-4 minute period, Jrockit enters some sort of housekeeping mode where it stops processing templates. It halts for about 60 seconds, then processes queued templates for a split second, then goes back to being non responsive for another 60 seconds, etc. Then it jumps back to life, and processes templates for another 7 hours without any problem.
It consistently does this sort of thing day after day.
My question, can anyone suggest what may be causing these 2 minute delays? Are there any params we can pass to Jrockit to stop this?
    Params we're passing to Jrockit:
    -Xmx1000m -Xms1000m -Xgcprio:pausetime -DJINTEGRA_NATIVE_MODE -DJINTEGRA_PREFETCH_ENUMS
    System info:
    - 4 GB RAM, dedicated box to this app. JRockit can have all the memory it wants.
    - Linux ES 4
    Thanks,
    Terry
Edited by droftdroft at 06/03/2007 9:15 PM

    Two things I would investigate:
    1) Run with -Xverbose:codegc,classgc and see if these outputs correspond to the pauses.
    2) We have seen problems when using NFS shares which are broken for some reason. The JVM can pause as long as the remote share is down. Don't know if that is the case in your configuration or not.

  • Newbie JRockit/64 bit questions

    Hello,
We are developing a Java application that needs to have a large memory mapped file (total of 8-10GB). With Windows 32 / Sun JDK we can map about 1.5GB max so we are looking for other alternative such as JRockit for 64 bit architectures.
I have no experience with 64 bit architectures so any help will be greatly appreciated:
    1. What 64bit operating systems and architectures (CPU’s models) are supported by JRockit ?
    2.     Does JRockit for 64 bit architectures allow to memory map files of arbitrary size (e.g. 16GB) ?
    3. Any recommendation for hardware/operating system to use with JRockit 64 (our system is cost sensitive, so hardware/memory cost does matter )?
    4. I presume that JRockit 64 can run standard Java applications/binaries (e.g. Tomcat) with no need to recompile them, right?
    5. Anything else you can share with your experience of running JRockit 64 bit ?
    Thanks,
    Zapta

    1. What 64bit operating systems and architectures
(CPU’s models) are supported by JRockit ?See http://e-docs.bea.com/wljrockit/docs50/certif.html
    2. Does JRockit for 64 bit architectures allow to
memory map files of arbitrary size (e.g. 16GB) ?Yes.
    3. Any recommendation for hardware/operating system
to use with JRockit 64 (our system is cost sensitive,
so hardware/memory cost does matter )?Sorry, I can't make any recommendations. See the list of supported hardware above to have a starting point.
    4. I presume that JRockit 64 can run standard Java
applications/binaries (e.g. Tomcat) with no need to
recompile them, right? This is true as long as the application does not use native libraries that are compiled for 32-bit hardware.
    5. Anything else you can share with your experience of
running JRockit 64 bit ?Here is an article that might be interesting: http://dev2dev.bea.com/pub/a/2004/01/jrockit_intel.html

We will try these in test...
Initially we were experiencing JVM hangs (where the JBoss process simply stopped responding) on one of our production servers with 142_05, but no core dumps were ever produced. So we moved the application to a different server that has been running some other deployments without problems (different versions of our codebase and use cases however) to rule out hardware/external configuration issues.
On this server, we did get core dumps.
So, we're not sure if they are dying for unrelated reasons (seems unlikely) or if the _05 just did not generate core dumps properly???
    take care!

  • Question  on Insallation Approach for SOA 11.1.1.3

I would appreciate if any Fusion experts can answer this :
*Environment :OEL 5.3 64 bit, Oracle DB 11.1.0.7  , WLS 10.3.3, SOA Suite 11.1.13 and JRockit
I am setting up DEV environment
I installed Oracle DB 11.1.0.7 and RCU 11.1.1.3
I installed JRockit R27.5.0 for Java SE 6 for Linux x86-64” . While installing Web Logic Server 10.3.3 (generic) on 64 bit, I could see the Available JRockit 27.5 , I went ahead with that and I could install WLS. But while Installing SOA Suite I got this Error
java.lang.LinkageError: JAXB 2.0 API is being loaded from the bootstrap classloader, but this RI (from jar:file:/tmp/OraInstall2010-07-17_10-13-18PM/ext/jlib/glassfish.jaxb_1.2.0.0_2-1-7.jar!/com/sun/xml/bind/v2/model/impl/ModelBuilder.class) needs 2.1 API. Use the endorsed directory mechanism to place jaxb-api.jar in the bootstrap classloader. (See http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/standards/)
I think this JRockit does not support SOA Suite 11.1.1.3 Right now WLS 10.3.3 is pointing to the JRockit 27.5 (not supported for SOA Suite)
    Later I installed JRockit Mission Control 4.0.1 for Linux X86- 64. [jrmc-4.0.1-1.6.0-linux-x64.bin] in /u01/app/oracle/product
Now I went ahead with SOA Suite 11.1.1.2 runInstaller and then SOA 11.1.1.3 patch runInstaller , which worked .
But while creating SOA Domain I could only see JRockit 27.5 in Available JRockit list , so I browsed and selected jrmc-4.0.1-1.6.0 from product directory I installed and I could successfully create SOA Domain.
I can start Admin Server & Managed Server . Admin Server & SOA Server is shown up in Enterprise Manager. So far , I am assuming what I did is correct ??
    QUESTIONS: -
    1. But WLS is still pointing to JRockit 27.5 . Will there be any issues/ errors later during Deployment ?
    2. Should I change or point the WLS to JRockit Mission Control. Can I do this without UN-INSTALLING . Like changing PATH or CLASS PATH , Can anyone suggest how to do?
    3. Are they any post installation steps I need to follow?
    Thanks
    Arvind

    Hi,
As you already have the cascade setup between Country and State set the default value for the state with SQL. The way to do it is use a presentation variable for country and use that variable in the state default sql as a filter. Sort the values and pick the 1st value in the sql. This would return the 1st value in the State prompt.
Let me know if this worked.

    Jay

  • JBoss EAP 6 On JRockit - Memory Leak

    hello team.
I have memory leak problem on jboss and jrockit.
    My Environment :
    1. OS :
    CentOS release 6.4 (Final)
    2. JRockit :
    java version "1.6.0_45"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_45-b06)
Oracle JRockit(R) (build R28.2.7-7-155314-1.6.0_45-20130329-0641-linux-x86_64, compiled mode)
    3. Application Server:
    JBoss EAP 6.2.0.GA
    4. Application
Large EJB Application (100 and more EJB Beans (Stateless, Stateful,  MDB, Timers and so on)
Everything works fine on older application server versions (4.3 , 4.2)
    But now I have Problem
Of course I know that problem is new version - and i have discussion on JBoss forums.
but guys I have question about jrockit with you:
What is the option "Other" in memory ??
    [jboss@jboss-new bin]$ jrcmd 17114  print_memusage

    [jboss@jboss-new bin]$
This size increases every time - and took entire amount of RAM.
    Thank in Advance.
    Regards,
    Paata Lominadze

Not sure what the 'other' is, but it is probably best shown by using an example. By using displayMap we can display a memory map of various JVM subsystems and libraries that are loaded, including third-party libraries.

    Here
    - thread is thread related (such as thread stacks)
    - int, internal use (such as pointer pages)
    - heap, chunk used by JRockit for the Java heap
    - os, mapped directly from the operating system, such as third party DLLs or shared objects
    - msp, memory space. a memory space is a native heap with a specific purpose, for example native memory allocation inside the JVM
    - gc, garbage collection related, for example live bits
    - code, compiled code
The 'other' memory space looks to me (from the blank entries in the above print-out) like they are a memory pages to are still not used. When the JVM starts it mappes an amount of memory. To my knowledge JRockit uses mmap (mmap(2) - Linux manual page), which creates a new mapping in the virtual address space. JRockit reserves an amount of memory (Java Heap (heap where your object instances go) + its own runtime (all the others)).
To see where the growth is in the various memory spaces, you can use 'print_memusage baseline', after which you can execute print_memusage again, for example,
    ./jrcmd 4523 print_memusage scale=M
    4523:
    Total mapped                     3896MB      +4MB (reserved=2905MB -3MB)

    -          Compiled code         1024MB           (used=14MB +1MB)
    -               Internal            1MB
    -                     OS          143MB
    -                  Other         2043MB

    -        Java class data          126MB      +4MB (malloced=125MB +4MB #93640 +2592 in 20596 classes)
    - Native memory tracking            1MB           (malloced=0MB #20 +10)
Note the additional column that prints out the difference in memory usage in relation to the baseline. You can also monitor native allocations by using trace_alloc_sites, memory allocations can then be displayed with different levels of detail using the level argument.
    ./jrcmd 4523 print_memusage trace_alloc_sites=true

Note this is more on the JVM level, in your case in might be beneficial to investigate what is happening on the java heap. By using print_object_summary you can get insight how memory on the heap is used on a per-class basis. To get to the bottom of where the memory leak is you can use the memory-leak-detector (an example of its use can be found here Middleware Snippets: Fast, Faster, JRockit). You can also obtain a heapdump that can be analyzed by using for example MAT (see for an example here Middleware Snippets: Visualizing Class Loading). To obtain a heapdump you can run the command, for example,
    [weblogic@machine1 bin]$ ./jrcmd 4523 runsystemgc full=true fullcompact=true
    4523:
    [weblogic@machine1 bin]$ ./jrcmd 4523 hprofdump filename=/home/weblogic/dump.hprof
    4523:
    Wrote dump to /home/weblogic/dump.hprof
Note that this first issues a full GC by using the runsystemgc command.

  • The Oracle JRockit JVM is not supported by SAP JCo 3.0.5.

    Hello all,
I am preparing our new Oracle Fusion Middleware platforms. So far we have been running BPEL 10.1.3.4.0 and we are going to build the 11g platform (WLS and SOA suite) in parallel.
I have already installed WLS Server 10.3.3 and then SOA Suite + the SOA patchset bu selecting always Jrockit_160_17_R28.0.0-679.
Now I am abaout to install the adapters and I red in the documentation
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/doc.1111/e17054/intro.htm
For supported JVM information that corresponds to each operating system, see the SAP Note #1077727 in the SAP Service Marketplace.
    Note:
The Oracle JRockit JVM is not supported by SAP JCo 3.0.5.
Is anybody aware of this? If it is valid, how could I achieve not to re-installa everything from scratch and select SUN JVM?
Could I for example create a new Managed Server where I will explicity select SUN JVM to be installed for this instance?
    Best Regards,
    Loukas Rougkalas

  • Steps to enable "-Xmanagement" option in JRockit JVM?

    Hello,
I am trying to enable the "-Xmanagement" option in the Jrockit JVM 1.4.2_04 to enable the management server to listen to the JVM running on our server. Therefore, we can use the JRA to profile our JVM in realtime, using the JRockit Management console.
We are running W2K3 and use the registry to pass all the necessary options (i.e. -classpath, verbose:gc, min/max heap size, -D options etc.) when starting the Weblogic service. However, when I attempt to add the -Xmanagement option to anywhere in the registry setting, the service will fail to start, regardless of where I place the option in the field.
If I cannot set this option, I recieve the below error when attempting to connect to the server via the management console ( I have tried various ports as well )

    Hi Helena,
Below are the values from the registry key we are passing to the weblogic service.
We do not use any of the "Start(WLS)(Weblogic).cmd" scripts to start the Weblogic service, only the WSM (Windows Service Manager).
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
    Thanks for the assitance.
    Regards,
    -Nader
