JS CS2 openDialog problem

Hi All,
Page 540 of the CS2 scripting guide says:
"A file or files to be preselected when the dialog opens:"
However myFile=File.openDialog("Pick me","Files : *.indd", true);
Doesn't allow multiple selections.
So is the CS2 Scripting guide wrong or am I doing something wrong?
Regards
Norbert

Norbert,
My guess is that this feature was added to the various suite applications at different times but the same documentation was used for all the applications.
Either that, or its an out-and-out error in the documentation.

  • InDesign CS2 Printing Problems

I teach in a Mac computer Lab (mac OS X) and InDesign CS2 is a huge headache for me; my students can't print their work half the time. I read online a lot of member posts about InDesign CS2 printing problems. Would a CS3 upgrade help?

CS3 upgrades are no longer available now that CS4 is out!
Perhaps if you described your particular problems, members of this forum could assist you. Note however, that CS2 was not supported on MacOS X 10.5 (Leopard).

  • Adobe Premiere CS2 Export Problem.

I'm running Adobe premiere CS2 on a windows XP machine, and I'm having trouble exporting are Sunday services. I'm encoding them into Adobe with a Matrox RT. Here's my problem, I can export the message part of the service fine which is about 20 to 30 minutes long. But one are trying to export the entire thing worship and the message. It gets to about 3000 to 4000 frames and stops. If you click cancel the whole thing locks up and you have to restart the computer. If I try rendering the same thing again it stops but it doesn't stop in the same place. I have three gigs of RAM and 2 dual Xeon 1.8 gig processors in PC. And more than enough hard drive space. Does anybody have any idea on what's going on how I can fix it.

try that. it's all most like its something in the video. is there a max time you call export?

  • Photoshop CS2 launch problem

Most of the time I attempt to launch Photoshop CS2 it fails. I have to try 2 or 3 times before it's successful.
I've put a new alias in my dock and still have the same problem. It's ok when I double click on the icon in the application folder.
I've repaired permissions and disc and it still happens.
There are some times when it works ok, but mostly it doesn't.
If any suggestion is to re-install the application, do I just install over the old app or do I have to delete the old app before the new installation?
Has anyone any advice as to what the problem could be?
    Thanks

    Hello Frank,
Sometimes preference files can get corrptped and perhaps that is the issue with your Photoshop CS 2 software. Locate this file or one that looks similar: com.adobephotoshopcs2.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Locate that file from the Preferences folder, drag it to the Desktop. Try to launch Photoshop. If it functions as it should, drag that bad .plist file to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. It's ok to delete a pref file as Photoshop will create a new clean one the next time you launch Photoshop. You will have to reset your Photoshop preferences, but that's one sure fire way to correct a bad pref file.
If that doesn't help... same path... locate this file: com.apple.recentitems.plist Same routine... see if that helps.
And, always, when applications are stubborn... run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions. Disk Utility is in your Applications/Utilities menu.

  • InDesign CS2 has problems with multiple hard drives

I have a mac pro that has two external hard drives attached to it. One is connected through usb and the other firewire. When ever I try to open an inDesign file on the hard drive that mounted second I get an error message. However I the hard drive that mounted first works just fine.
The error message is: "Cannot open the document xxx. You may not have permission or the document may be open already. For multi-user access, close the file and then lock it using the File > Get Info command in the Finder."
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've not had any such problem. It's been a while since I used CS2, but I definitely used it on computers with more than one disk attached. I don't think I had a mix of FireWire and USB drives though.

  • PhotoShop CS2 MultiMonitor Problems

Hi, I recently built my dad a new machine for his work.  The machine is set for multiple monitors (3) and to dual boot to Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and XP Pro 32bit.  I installed PhotoShop CS2 on the Win7 partition, and everything seemed to go well.  However when photoshop's main window is extended across all 3 monitors the window starts to artifact/glitch, and so does the desktop, causing many things to be unresponsive when clicking on them.  I can pull up task manager without any problem and close PhotoShop which immediately ends all problems.  This problem only occurs with photoshop's main window.  It does not occur in any other programs, nor does it occur with the photo editing window (the window the actual picture is displayed in.)  This multi-monitor setup was running on an older machine without this problem.  The problem occurs when about 2 and 2/3rds of the screens are taken up horizontally, the vertical size has no effect.  It doesn't matter which monitor is the third monitor, as soon as the main photoshop window hits a certain horizontal length the problem occurs.  If I reduce the resolution of the monitors the problem does not occur.  This leads me to believe it’s a problem photoshop’s main window is having after reaching a certain horizontal size.  Has anyone else had this problem, or know of a solution or at least a reason this is occurring if there is no solution?  I would like to get this problem fixed so my dad can take full advantage of the screen real-estate available for his work productivity.

  • CS2 InDesign problems with Snow Leopard

I recently purchased a new iMac with Snow Leopard. I installed my CS2 and everything seemed okay. Apple said I would have no trouble with CS2 on the new operating system.
InDesign is doing strange things. When I move a text box, the text disappears. I have to click the text cursor over the text and it reappears. Also, starting yesterday, when I export a file to PDF, InDesign crashes.
Other than purchasing CS4, is there a way to fix these problems?
    Thank you.

Sorry my email showing no message. What would be doing that?
I called Apple and they told me to install Rosetta, which I did. It helped for a while—I could move a text box and the text would not disappear but I still could not export to a pdf without InDesign crashing. They gave me a number to call for Adobe. I haven't called yet because I know the answer.
This is really a pain. I am working on a 32 page document with photos and lots of text. I always export to a pdf so I can send it out for proofing. I will have to transfer the files to my old computer to make pdfs.
    Thanks for all your help.

  • CS2 Pixel Problems when editing

Hi, I am an amatuer Photoshop user.  I have recently had problems with editing pics either resizing or adjusting levels,  saving then trying to post to a website.  The pictures show up awfully pixeled.  I downloaded the same pics without editing and they look fine.  I have also had pics printed and I dont have the pixel problem.  I assume something is wrong with my PS CS2 software.  Is there a update to fix this problem or do I need to delete and reload my PS CS2 software program?

Further information on this problem:  It seems to be linked to the condition of the data fields in the Revise HyperTrend window.
Within this window is a box containing data lines corresponding to the items to be graphed.  The headings are:   Expression    Line Color    Min/Max/Pos/Height.
There is room in this box for 19 lines of data.  If more than 19 Items are entered, a scroll bar appears to the right.
It appears that attempting to adjust the widths of any of these fields (to view more of the data in a field, for example) triggers this problem.  It may also be triggered if the width of the data displayed is covered by the scroll bar.
Can anyone figure out why this is happening and what to do about it?

  • Font book or CS2 font problem?

I am using a mac Pro, running OS 10.4.11, w/ CS2. I am having a problem with either font book or CS2. Certain fonts are not viewing correctly when I use them in CS2 programs. I get a font error when I open the file, and when I try to fix the font by choosing the same name again, the font appears as another font entirely (in fact after I closed and reopened everything the font it substituted changed, and if I choose italic it changes fonts again). I do not know if the issue is with font book or CS2, but I have installed around 1500 fonts, and have had some other minor issues when I open files in Adobe programs, with fonts not showing up even though they are installed and enabled. I fix that problem by disabling the font and then re-enabling it and it then shows up in the font list.
So after all that, my question is what should I do? Should I reinstall CS2? Or is the problem more likely cause by font book?
    Thanks

Font Book is an inadequate font manager made by Apple for managing the few meger fonts Apple includes with the system.
FAP is a robust font manager made for professionals with thousands of fonts

  • Mac OS10.5.6 CS2 printing problems

I cannot get my documnet to print correctly( alignment on the page) using CS2 on a Mac 10.5.6. I read several posts that this is a compatibility issue between  InDesign CS and Leopard. And that there is not a fix? Is this true? And why in the world would the biggest design application company not be compatible with the latest Apple OS? It's not like Leopard came out last month? Any insight?

OK, let me try this again.
In terms of MacOS X 10.5 and all the 10.5.# double dot releases, I am sure that the compatibility problems are frustrating to you. They are just as frustrating to us. Don't you think that many of our internal +users are on Macintoshes? But even Apple admits (at least to us if not publicly), that operating system bugs were the cause of these myriads of problems that plagued not only the CS2 applications, but the CS3 applications as well. There were also issues with printer drivers and their interactions with both the application programs and the operating system. Thus, the problems had nothing to do with Apple "updating and improving" as much as Apple attempting to update and improve without quite enough concern for the ability of existing applications to continue to run unimpeded. (Years ago, I actually ran an operating system development group for a major computer company. The most important criteria ranking above that of new features was the cardinal rule that we not do any harm to existing applications or system programs. The application program vendor should not need to modify the applications to run on the new OS release. And likewise, a user should not need to buy a new application version simply to take advantage of a dot release or even a major release of an operating system.)
Quite frankly, I am actually glad that no one at Adobe promised you anything with regards to a combination of a particular printer, its driver, MacOS X 10.5.6, CS4, and particular printing settings. The combinations and permutations are mind boggling and believe it or not, we as well as our network of beta testers can only test a small subset of said combinations and permutations. If you find a problem with a current release of an Adobe application and you report it, we will attempt to track down the problem with the combination of OS vendor (Apple in this case) and printer vendor if necessary to find the cause, a temporary workaround, and hopefully a more permanent fix. Unfortunately, Adobe does not have engineers doing compatibility fixes for software that is no longer being licensed. Thus, we have some engineers working on patches and workarounds for CS4 at this time (and as necessary, collaborating with the OS vendor and printer vendors), but not CS3 or CS2. The majority of our engineers are working on the next major release of our software. Can that be that complex a fix? In terms of the misaligned page and your question "can that be that complex a fix," the answer is "yes, it could require an OS fix, a driver fix, and/or some application workaround which in total is indeed complex" requiring coordination between two or three companies and multiple development, support, and test organizations. Oh, by the way, exactly what printer were you having problems with. I checked this thread and I haven't seen you reveal that interesting little piece of information!
Going back to the Lightroom question, no, Adobe doesn't expect "everyone to fall in line with" the DNG format. But if Canon and Nikon, to mention only two of the camera manufacturers, make unannounced and/or undocumented changes to their proprietary RAW formats as part of their release of new camera models, it is very unreasonable to expect that Adobe or any other software vendor will magically have a means of decoding such formats the day such cameras are released. We deliver updates as best we can with or without the assistance of the camera companies. And if you must be the very first on your block to take delivery of a Nikon D3x or a Canon EOS 5D Mark II, you'd better expect that it may be a month or two or more before either Adobe or other vendors providing RAW format support will be able to support the new cameras. If the vendors were willing to publicly define and stick to a common RAW format, this class of problems would effectively go away. (Note that Adobe has been posting beta/pre-release versions of both Lightroom and Camera RAW Photoshop plug-ins on the AdobeLabs site to help minimize the pain to such early camera adopters using our current software versions!)

  • CS2 installation problems

Having downloaded CS2, found the correct serial number, got past the "insert disc 2" problem and finished the installation, I now get an error message on launching the application as follows:
"Your adobe photoshop user name, organisation, or serial number is missing or invalid. The application cannot continue and must now exit".
Sure enough when I click OK it closes the application.
    All suggestions welcome

Perhaps you can give a bit more information about your configuration? Which version of Windows perhaps?
