JSF 2.0: Interaction between several Java classes (get value)

Hi Everybody!
Unfortunately, I find both in the web and in books not really advice. And slowly I have the feeling that something is either really lazy or I'm just incapable! :-)
Following scenario:
Suppose I have a JSF page (.xhtml-file) that has several input fields (<h:inputText... />). For example, a field for the lastname (with the corresponding Java class: Customer.java) and a field for the ordered product (with the corresponding Java class: Shoppingcart.java). In addition, the page has a Save button to store the entered data into the database (with the corresponding Java class: Jdbc.java).
Code of JSF page:
<table>
  <tr>
    <td><h:inputText id="lastname" value="#{customer.lastname}" /></td>
  </tr>
  <tr>
    <td><h:inputText id="product" value="#{shoppingcart.product}" /></td>
  </tr>
  <tr>
    <td><h:commandButton action="#{jdbc.insertDataIntoDB}" value="Save" /></td>
  </tr>
</table>Code of Customer.java class:
@ManagedBean (name = "customer")
@SessionScoped
public class Customer
   private String lastname;
   public String getLastname()
      return lastname;
   public void setLastname(String lastname)
     this.lastname = lastname;
}Code of Shoppingcart.java class:
@ManagedBean (name = "shoppingcart")
@SessionScoped
public class Shoppingcart
   private String product;
   public String getProduct()
      return product;
   public void setProduct(String product)
     this.product = product;
}Code of Jdbc.java class:
@ManagedBean (name = "jdbc")
@SessionScoped
public class Jdbc
   public String insertDataIntoDB()
      Connection conn = null;
      Statement  stmt = null;
      try
         Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
         conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/db_xyz", "username", "pw");
         stmt = conn.createStatement();
         stmt.executeUpdate("INSERT INTO db_xyz.tbl_orders (Lastname, Product) VALUES (" + lastname + "," + product + ");");
}Please ignore the last line (stmt.executeUpdate) of my code in the jdbc class. This does not work.
And right here is just my problem!
How do I get in my Jdbc class the current values of the entered lastname and product?
I'll be very grateful if you could help me in this regard.
Many greetings and thanks in advance.

One approach is to have a backing bean for each JSF. Say you have shoppingPage.jsf, you could also have a managed bean called ShoppingPage. If this bean holds references to the other beans then it is easy to reference everything via the first bean.
class ShoppingPage {
     private DataBase db;
     private ShoppingCart sc;
     //getters and setters, etc
}The JSF can refer to the ShoppingCart via the ShoppingCart i.e. #{ shoppingPage.sc.doSomeThing() }
If both db and sc are involved then #{ shoppingPage.save() } where the save function is in the ShoppingCart object and can see both of the other objects.
Otherwise it get a bit complicated because there may be several users on your website so you need to identify the objects relating to a particular user. Take a look at http://balusc.blogspot.com/2006/06/communication-in-jsf.html

  • Accessing String variables from several JAVA classes

    Hi.
    I have several java classes that accesses the same String variables. Instead of putting the String declarations in every java files, how can I put these declarations in a single file source, and get each java class to get the variables data from this file ?
    Please advice.
    Thanks.

    hi, of course you can solve it by the following methods:
    Method 1. define a superclass including the common string variable, and extend other classes from the superclass.
    Method 2. define a class , and define your common string variable as a static variable in it. In your other classes, you can call the string variable.
    Method 3. define it at your each classes.

  • How do I interact between stage and classes?

    Hi,
    I have asked this question before, and all I got is "Go back
    to reading beginner books", so I'm hoping that someone here is
    willing to actually answer my question as opposed to brushing me
    off because they were unwilling to help...
    And yes, I have read books on the topic and gone through tons
    of the documentation and not found the answer to this. I have
    ActionScript 1 and JavaScript experience, so this whole business
    shouldn't be this hard.
    I am using ActionScript 3 in Flash CS3.
    My problem is this:
    I need to find out how to send commands between stuff on the
    stage and stuff that's defined in a class.
    I have had this issue for ages and kept trying to find ways
    around it since so far I haven't been able to find help for it.
    For example:
    When using a document class, how can I access the current
    frame number of the Stage?
    Or using a document class, how can I access any object (like
    a MovieClip with instance name) that was put on the stage using the
    IDE?
    Currently, to be more specific, I am trying to do something
    really simple:
    Make a button work on my stage that is not always visible.
    With AS3 that's not as easy anymore as it used to be.
    So what I did now is create the button in the document class,
    used addChild and set it to alpha = 0.
    Now, when the Stage reaches specific frames (i.e. ones with
    labels, and I got this part figured out), it is supposed to make
    the button visible. Then I can add event listeners and stuff, and I
    can figure that part out myself.
    I don't know how to access the stage frame number from the
    document class, so I put it into a frame script in frame 1, but now
    this script cannot access the button that is defined in the
    document class.
    It's driving me bananas...
    PLEASE, someone here, can someone please explain to me how I
    can make this work?
    I have seen plenty of diagrams of the Display List and the
    Object Hierarchy, but none of that explains how to actually USE any
    of it...
    Thanks so much in advance to anyone who is willing to spend
    some time to answer!

    Well, first of all, I have to say that AS3 has basically been
    designed to be difficult on purpose, in that all this interaction
    between objects is purposefully very strict. For this reason, I
    still use AS2 for all my basic Flash work. AS3 is just a lot more
    involved, a lot more strict, a lot less forgiving... you need a lot
    of experience with it before it starts to make sense.
    Now, I think I might have a few specific answers to your
    questions:
    From any DisplayObject (this includes any Document class,
    which has to extend MovieClip or in some cases Sprite) you can
    access the Stage using the 'stage' property.
    However, stage is probably not exactly what you want, you
    want the main timeline, which is the child of stage. To access the
    main timeline, you can use the 'root' property of any
    DisplayObject.
    However, unless you have strict mode off, Flash won't let you
    just say "root.myMovieClip" because the root property is of the
    type DisplayObject, which is not a dynamic class (meaning you can't
    add properties to it) and it has no built in property "myMovieClip"
    so it thinks you made a mistake. So you have to "cast" the root
    property as a MovieClip, which *is* dynamic so it will let you try
    to reference anything on it (like AS1/2 did for everything.)
    So what all that means is this should work from inside you
    document class:
    (root as MovieClip).myMovieClip
    or
    MovieClip(root).myMovieClip
    Either will successfully reference a MovieClip you had put on
    the main stage in the IDE and named "myMovieClip".
    Rather than setting the alpha to 0, try setting visible to
    false. I think this will disable all interactive events, where
    simply setting alpha to 0 would make it still be interactive.

  • Putting code to my Jsf and Jsff pages and calling Java class

    I want guidance on how to write simple code on adf pages
    1. I have adf pages (.jsf and .jsff) where I have input text fields and command buttons, I want to put custom code on the command button such that when you click on any of the buttons at runtime, the code will be executed.
    2. In my application, I have a java class which I have written, I need to click on any of the buttons at runtime, the application will call the java class and execute the class. Essentially, taking parameters from my adf page(s) (.jsf and .jsff) to the java class and also returning parameters after execution.

    The version of my Jdev. is 11.1.2.3.0
    Which docs?.... I will be grateful if you can point to the particular doc fro me.
    1) Can you pls tell me in one of few sentences how to add method and set the actionListener property.
    2) in question number 2, I am totally lost... Let me explain my self again to clarify the situation. In my adf page, I have a button and three input texts,my purpose is that at runtime, when a user click on the button, the values in the first two input texts will be passed to the java class as parameters, it is expected to use these parameters to process some form of calculations and return a value which I will place on the  third input field.

  • Having problems linking two java classes getting a "deprecated API" error??

    Hi,
    I am tryin to link one page to another in my program, however i get the followin msg:-

            v.setSize(Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getScreenSize());
            v.show();
    }Im pretty sure ther is some conflict between the two classes due to the way they are called and designed?
    Hope you can help!
    Kind Regards
    Raj

    You may want to check your show() calls and see if
    they can be replaced with setVisible(). Forexample,
    in your Vowelm code, you have a static JFrame v.
    At
    the end of your main function, you use v.show().As
    of JDK1.1, this has been deprecated in favour of
    setVisible(boolean).hey show() in JFrame is from Window and in windowits
    not deprecated ..
    show is not decrecated thats for sure ... i dontknow
    y you said that ...
    you can look in docs as well..
    True - but this in turn overrides show() from
    java.awt.Component, which has been deprecated. My
    guess is that's where the problem comes from.
    Thanks for the Dukes!
    FlicAnd then again - perhaps not. After looking into this a bit more, I take back my last comment about the Component override. However, as I said in my original reply, compiling with -deprecation should tell you which show() call is flagging the error. There is definitely one somewhere that the JVM doesn't like - without seeing your complete code, it's hard to say exactly where. Based on what you've posted, my guess is that it is within the Vowelm class.
    Next time, I'll try to avoid 'shooting from the hip'.
    Again, thanks for the Dukes,
    Flic

  • Get the difference between two java.sql.Time values

    Hi, I'm developping a web application in which I need to to subtract one java.sql,Time value from another. The two values are stored in a database field of type DateTime. I used following code
    java.sql.Time start_time=resultset.getTime("startTime");
    java.sql.Time end_time=resultset.getTime("startTime");
    java.sql.Time diff=start_time-end_time;
    can u give me any comment on this code

    Remember what the Date/Time object in Java represents - a single point in time.
    Subtracting one from another gives you an amount of time elapsed between the two dates. Fine.
    Making a new Date out of that number is incorrect. The number no longer represents a point in time, but rather a duration.
    Its like saying "There is 10 seconds difference between the two times, so the time is now 1 Jan 1970, 00:00:10 GMT".
    The simple and stupid calculation is to take the milliseconds difference, and divide it to get to a more humanly readable value.
    // duration in milliseconds
    long duration = ?????
    long durationInSeconds = duration / 1000;
    long durationInMinutes = duration / (60 * 1000);
    long durationInHours = duration / (60 * 60 * 1000);
    // careful - not always true!
    long durationInDays = duration / (24 * 60 * 60 * 1000);
    NOTE: The "daysBetween" calculation is potentially complicated by Daylight Time adjustments. The simple approach does not necessarily work exactly.

    I have the same issue as stated above.
    At runtime sometimes the mapping fails however when executing the mapping from ESR (test operation mapping) with the same payload it is executed succesfully (lookup is to system that is the senderservice of the scenario).
    Anybody a clue.
    Also clearing mapping cache etc. did not solve the problem.

  • Difference between Java class and JavaBean?

    What is the difference between a Java class and a JavaBean?
    A class has variables which hold state.
    A class has methods which can do things (like change state).
    And if I understand a JavaBean it is rather like a BIG class...
    i.e.
    A JavaBean has variables which hold state.
    A JavaBean has methods which can do things (like change state).
    So, what's the difference between the two?
    And in case it helps...What is the crossover point between the two? Is there a minimalist type JavaBean which is the same as a class? What is the difference between Java beans and Enterprise Java Beans?
    Thanks.

    Introspection, as I understand it is a bunch of
    methods which allows me to ask what a class can do
    etc. right? So, if I implement a bunch of
    introspection methods for my class then my class
    becomes a JavaBean?Introspection allows a builder tool to discover a Bean's properties, methods, and events, either by:
    Following design patterns when naming Bean features which the Introspector class examines for these design patterns to discover Bean features.
    By explicitly providing the information with a related Bean Information class (which implements the BeanInfo interface).
    I understand now they are completely different.
    Thanks. Very clear.
    I do not understand how they are completely different.
    In fact I don't have a clue what the differences are
    other than to quote what you have written. In your
    own words, what is the difference? This is the "New
    to Java Technology" forum ;-) and I'm new to these
    things.In that case ejbs are way too advanced for you, so don't worry about it.

    While researching this question, I came across this answer by Kim Fowler. I think it explains it better than any other answer I have seen in the forum.
    Many thanks Kim
    Hi
    Luckily in the java world the definition of components is a little
    less severe than when using COM (I also have, and still occasionaly
    do, worked in the COM world)
    Firstly there are two definitions that need to be clarified and
    separated: JavaBean and EnterpriseJavaBean (EJB)
    EJB are the high end, enterprise level, support for distributed
    component architectures. They are roughly equivalent to the use of MTS
    components in the COM/ COM+ world. They can only run within an EJB
    server and provide support, via the server, for functionality such as
    object pooling, scalability, security, transactions etc. In order to
    hook into this ability EJB have sets of interfaces that they are
    required to support
    JavaBeans are standard Java Classes that follow a set of rules:
    a) Hava a public, no argument constructor
    b) follow a naming patterns such that all accessor and modifier
    functions begin with set/ get or is, e.g.
    public void setAge( int x)
    public int getAge()
    The system can then use a mechanism known as 'reflection/
    introspection' to determine the properties of a JavaBean, literally
    interacting with the class file to find its method and constructor
    signatures, in the example above the JavaBean would end with a single
    property named 'age' and of type 'int' The system simply drops the
    'set' 'get' or 'is' prefix, switches the first letter to lower case
    and deduces the property type via the method definition.
    Event support is handled in a similar manner, the system looks for
    methods similar to
    addFredListener(...)
    addXXXListener
    means the JavaBean supports Fred and XXX events, this information is
    particularly useful for Visual builder tools
    In addition there is the abiliity to define a "BeanInfo' class that
    explicitly defines the above information giving the capability to hide
    methods, change names etc. this can also be used in the case where you
    cannot, for one reason or another, use the naming patterns.
    Finally the JavaBean can optionally - though usually does - support
    the Serializable interface to allow persistence of state.
    As well as standard application programming, JavaBeans are regularly
    used in the interaction between Servlets and JSP giving the java
    developer the ability to ceate ojbect using standard java whilst the
    JSP developer can potentially use JSP markup tags to interact in a
    more property based mechanism. EJB are heaviliy used in Enterprise
    application to allow the robust distribution of process

    Gregory:
    If you want to upload several Java classes in one script the solution is .sql file, for example:
    set define ?
    create or replace and compile java source named "my.Sleep" as
    package my;
    import java.lang.Thread;
    public class Sleep {
    public static void main(String []args) throws java.lang.InterruptedException {
    if (args != null && args.length>0) {
    int s = Integer.parseInt(args[0]);
    Thread.sleep(s*1000);
    } else
    Thread.sleep(1000);
    create or replace and compile java source named "my.App" as
    package my;
    public class App {
    public static void main(String []args) throws java.lang.InterruptedException {
    System.out.println(args[0]);
    exit
    Then the .sql file can be parsed using the SQLPlus, JDeveloper or SQLDeveloper tools.

  • How to call Java class from Forms 6i?

    Hi friends,
    I need to call a Java class from my Forms 6i application.
    (It runs under WIndows XP. It's a client/server application and I have only the client and the Form builder installed on my PC)
    I don't know almost anything about Java's world so your help would be very useful for me.
    Could you tell me exactly what i have to do?
    I've read in metalink several Notes, but they supposed that the Java architecture is already installed in the computer.... I only have the default installation of Developer 6i... so I would need to know:
    - How to install/configure the neccesary to execute Java classes without problem
    - How to invoke the .class from Forms 6i.
    Thanks a lot
    Jose.

    And also this one:
    Problem Description
    Installed Forms 6i Rel 2 on a MS Windows machine. When trying to Import the Java
    Classes getting the errors
    PDE-UJI0001 Failed to create the JVM
    Solution Description
    You need to to install JDK 1.2.2 to run the Java Importer. And set the PATH's
    and classpath's correctly.
    Explanation
    1. Download and install the JDK 1.2.2.
    Possibly available at: http://java.sun.com/products/archive/
    2. Assuming the JDK 1.2.2 is installed in c:\jdk1.2.2 directory and the JRE in
    C:\PROGRA~1\JAVASOFT\JRE\1.2 directory; ORACLE_HOME=C:\Dev6iR2.
    Set the PATH to
    set PATH=c:\jdk1.2.2\bin;C:\PROGRA~1\JAVASOFT\JRE\1.2\bin;C:\PROGRA~1\JAVASOFT\JRE\1.2\bin\classic;%PATH%
    ( If you are using ias9i then the JDK 1.2.2 comes with the ias installtion ,
    in this case please set the PATH to
    D:\ias9i\Apache\jdk\bin;D:\ias9i\Apache\jdk\jre\bin;D:\ias9i\Apache\jdk\jre\bin\classic;%PATH% )
    3. Set the CLASSPATH to set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;C:\Dev6iR2\TOOLS\COMMON60\JAVA\IMPORTER.JAR;.
    (If you do not set the CLASSPATH correctly you will get the error
    PDE-UJI002 Unable to find the required java importer classes)
    4. Now run the Forms Builder by using the command.
    C:\Dev6iR2\bin\ifbld60.exe
    Now the Java Importer Should Run fine.

  • Comparison insertion/search time between different Collection class

    Hi,
    Does someone know where I can find a clear an complete comparison between different JAVA class which implements interface Collection?
    I want to compare:
    - elements insertion time
    - elements search/removal time
    Thank you very much in advance
    Diego

    from wikipedia: Its purpose is to characterize a function's behavior for very large (or very small) inputs in a simple but rigorous way that enables comparison to other functions.
    meaning if I ask how quick an algorithm is you might say it completes in 10 seconds but the next time you run it it might take 8 seconds. It kind of depends on what else your computer is doing/ how fast your computer is or how much data you are putting through ie if the puter has little memory it might need to use virtual memory which will have an effect on your performance.
    Big O notation identifies how much work has to be carried out. The easiest example is a simple search of an array:
    for (int i = 0; i < array.length; i++) {
      if (array[i] == "weijewr") {
        return i;
    }Where n represents a number of elements:
    This takes O(n) (big Oh of N) as potentially you need to look at each element.
    if you were to write a standard bubble sort it would be O(n2) as potentially you need to iterate the array once for each element.

  • How do Java Class Objects get invalid?

    How do Java Classes get invalid in the database?

    What version of Oracle?
    Oracle provided or user created?
    Generally speaking if you modify the database objects a class depends on you can invalidate the object which in turn can invalidate dependend code/objects.
    More specifics are needed if you need a better response.

              System.out.println(str2.getText()); // Code required to settext in textbox of main panel
    };When i click the button in panel1 the message should be displayed in the textbox of main panel.
    Similarly the panel2 event should display a message in main panel.
    i will try with inner class, u also give me any possible solutions.
