Jsp into web portlet

How do i put a .jsp created whit JDeveloper into a portlet whithin Portal????

The Portal Development Kit contains all of the information for building web portlets. It is located at: http://otn.oracle.com/products/iportal/files/pdkjan/index.html
There is also another forum called Oracle Portal Development Kit (PDK) specifically for portlet development issues.

  • PUBLISHING OC4J JSP as web portlet

    I have developed a JSP page in OC4j and want to publish this page on portal 3.0.9 as web portlet. I have created web provider and registered this page as portlet. When I view the portlet it comes as a Blank Page.
    Can anyone tell me how to publish a JSP page developed in OC4J as a web portlet? Can I publish JSP web pages developed in OC4J as web portlet without modifying any JSP code?
    I have installed all JPDK samples and they are working fine.

    Here is what we are forced to do, because V2 has had a great delay in the time scheduling.
    Hope it helps. Anyone better ideas?

    1. use mod_proxy in httpd.conf

    ProxyPassReverse /pof/ http://localhost:7779/pof/

    2. create JSP under JServ, use hidden fields to transfer parameter

  • Relatiive Path problem when using JSP:include in web portlet

    Hi
    I am using Oracle Portal 9.0.2, and thus OC4J as the J2EE platform.
    I have created a JSP web portlet that is supposed to inlude a specific static html file, which name is passed to it using a portlet parameter. It works, but I had to create a symbolic link from the applicable J2EE applications's htdocs directory in order to access the content:
    /j2ee/OC4J_Portal/applications/<application>/htdocs/<portlet>/content/
    where /content/ is a symbolic link to another directory altogether.
    I can then access the content from within the portlet with a JSP include tag that looks like :
    docPath = "/htdocs/<portlet>/html/"+doc_path;
    %>
    <br>Include:
    <jsp:include page="<%=docPath%>" flush="true"/>
    I would like to access the content using the JSP include without having to use the symbolic link. Is there a way to do this. I tried using an Apache alias, but that did not work.
    Regards
    Harry

    Hi
    Thanx
    In the end we build up a static URL to the document to be included using:
    String contentLocation="content/";
    docPath = contentLocation+getAdditionalDocPath();;
    out.println("docPath="+docPath);
    String docPathAndName = portletRequest.getParameter("doc_path");
    %>
    <!--
    This java script function calls the display content page with the
    page parameter doc_path (which is in return passes it to the display
    content portlet) in order to retrieve and display specific document
    with a JSP:include tag
    -->
    <script language="JavaScript">
    function generateSectionPath(docName) {
    this.location="http://<%=portletRequest.getServerName()%>:<%=portletRequest.getServerPort()%>/pls/portal/url/page/<%=getPageGroup()%>/content?doc_path="+"<%=docPath%>"+docName;
    <script language="JavaScript">
    function generateRelativePath(docName) {
    this.location="http://<%=portletRequest.getServerName()%>:<%=portletRequest.getServerPort()%>/pls/portal/url/page/<%=getPageGroup()%>/content?doc_path="+docName;
    </script>
    <br>Include:
    <%
    if (portletRequest.getParameter("doc_path") == null) {
    out.println("Error - no doc path specified");
    } else {
    try { %>
    <jsp:include page="<%=docPathAndName%>" flush="true"/>
    <% } catch (Exception e) {
    out.println("Error retrieving document:"+e.toString());
    } // end if
    %>
    Each link from one included HTML file to another becomes a JS function that points the browser to the portal page that includes the portlet that includes thwe JSP that has the include tag to include the html document that is to be displayed.
    The current relative path the the html document (from a predefined root in the file system that is symbolically linked to the same directory as where the including JSP lives) is stored in a session variable, and appended to the document name that is passed to the page.
    If a full document path, as opposed to just the name, is stored, that no appending is done. However, the path is stripped out and stored in a session variable.
    Ths thing is, sometimes a document name, and sometimes a path is passed to the page. Therefore the requirement to know the path when it is not available. A name only will always be passed subsequent to a request for a document with the full path specified, therefore the session variable mechanism works.
    Thanx for the input

  • Publish web layout of jsp report as portlet

    Hi All:
    Please let me know how can i run web layout of jsp report and publish it as portlet?
    I have successfully deployed my jsp report(web layout),namely my_rpt.jsp, as a J2EE application and when i write URL direlctly in address bar of browser it runs successfully.
    I have also published (as portlet) successfully my_rpt.jsp, with "execute" type "servlet", and it runs paper layout of report.
    But i m unable to run the web layout of this report,with "execute" type "JSP"
    i have provided "Oracle Reports Web Gateway URL for JSP reports " = http://webserver.domain_name:port/

  • Using existing java servlet as web portlet?

    I have an existing java servlet that I am trying to use as a web portlet. When I log into portal and run the page I have placed my web portlet on, the header shows up, but not the data.

    I had to add a "doPost" to my servlet because I was getting the jserv error "Post is not supported by this URL", but that is the only thing I have changed. Do I have to use some of the "portlet" classes in my servlet? (The servlet works fine standalone in ie, just won't output anything on my portal page.)
    Any ideas will be appreciated.

    The problem is in the following line:
    out.print(response.getOutputStream());
    Portlets (unlike servlets) cannot output to a n OutputStream, but only to a PrintWriter.
    I had a similiar problem trying to output a chart. My solution was to output the chart to a file, then reference the chart by outputting a HTML img tag from the portlet, which referred to the file in the src attribute.

  • How do I change a WAR into a portlet?

    Hi,
    How do I change a WAR into a portlet?
    Do I just change the zone.properties, jserv.properties, and the provider.xml. In other words, do I treat it like a jar?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Wilson

    If you mean how do you get the contents of a .war file into a JServ environment, then I would advise against trying this unless really necessary. The servlets in the .war file will only work if they do not rely on any Servlet 2.2-specific features, since JServ only supports Servlet 2.0.
    Why not just plug the .war file into OC4J? You can still 'front end' it with Apache if you want by using mod_proxy.
    If you really wanted to try this, first you would need to unzip the .war file to the filesystem. Then the full path to WEB-INF/classes (if it exists) and each .jar file in WEB-INF/lib would have to be mentioned as repositories in zone.properties, as these all contain 'zone' (or 'web app') specific classes.
    WEB-INF/web.xml contains an XML description of the servlets that need mounting in zone.properties, including their init args.
    All the other files outside of WEB-INF should be treated as documents by the web server, so should either be copied into your default htdocs directory or exposed under an alias in httpd.conf.This also relies on the classes in the .war file not 'clashing' with different versions in the server's global classpath in jserv.properties.

  • Supporting web portlets on multi-web server setup

    We are in the process of setting up a system that will have 2 web servers plus a system for the portal and its backend DB. (ie, the 2 web servers will have a load balancer in front of them to spread the work.)
    My question is: how do I support our web portlets that allow the users to customize them? These portlets use the File Customization Manager and so the customization settings are manintained in files on the web server.
    Since the load balancer may send a user to either of the web servers, how do you suggest I best maintain the customization settings? Use a shared file system? Don't use a shared file sys, but sync up the customization dat files some other way? Re-write all of the web portlets to use the DB to maintain the customization data?
    Thanks for any suggestions or help for this!
    Brian Downs

    The best way to handle this would be to use the DB Customization Manager and store the customizations in the database. You could also explore the NFS/shared file system route, but we have run into significant performance issues with NFS in the past.

  • JSPs in WEB-INF

    Hi,
    i have two (basicly?) questions:
    1)
    i try to put my JSP under WEB-INF, like i am able to do in struts
    so in struts i have a URL: http://myhost/strutsApp/loadFile.do
    that triggers an action-class, doing something an returns ActionForward,
    which is my JSP under WEB-INF
    can i deal so in JSF?
    2)
    is it possible to add "actions" ?
    i need a "logical-access" before presenting my jsf-sites,
    a URL like this http://myhost/jsfApp/loadCarById?id=9876543
    so a class must load some data from database and convert it to a backbean in my jsfs
    any ideas?
    thanks for any comment!!!

    Ahh! Now I copy.
    Inside my backing bean I call java.sql based code. I got away from using jsp sql tags or the access to databases via the JNDI of tomcat. The java.sql based code I use comes from over the years and can connect to multiple databases. It is not based on javax.sql which I'm considering. I don't know if there is such an endeavor out there. Do you know of any? The javax.servlet.jsp.jstl.sql package does not look too useful. I have a sourceforge project where I could put this code if I thought it was useful.
    I do use PreparedStatement's and a parameter coming back from a component in a form could readily be set into a PreparedStatement and the result set put back into the HtmlDataTable for the table in a jsf form.
    Here is what I call during initialization and I'm trying to make the per session; just like the title is set into a PreparedStatement so can a parameter returned from a jsf form component.

    //try
    hub=(com.neuralworks.jdbc.Hub)new com.neuralworks.jdbc.Hub();//java.beans.Beans.instantiate(null,"com.neuralworks.jdbc.Hub");
    hub.setPropertyFileName("com.hypernex.jsf.bundles.databases");
    hub.connectJDBCAdapter();
    //hub.setUrl(getString("URL2"));
    //hub.setUser(getString("User"));
    //hub.setPassword(getString("Password"));
    //hub.connectJDBCAdapter();
    com.hypernex.jordbc.CrystallographyDataModel.getInstance().setHub(hub);
    com.hypernex.jordbc.CrystallographyDataModel.getInstance().initialize();
    com.hypernex.jordbc.CrystallographyDataModel crystallographyDataModel=com.hypernex.jordbc.CrystallographyDataModel.getInstance();
    title=com.hypernex.jordbc.CrystallographyDataModel.getInstance().getMapName();
    //double[] xMap=crystallographyDataModel.getXMap();
    //double[] yMap=crystallographyDataModel.getYMap();
    //String[] patternName=new String[xMap.length];
    //String[] mapID=crystallographyDataModel.getMapID();
    dataTable=new HtmlDataTable();
    //dataTable.setRows(xMap.length);
    hub.prepareStatement("select X, Y, MAP_ID from MAP_LOCATIONS, MAP where MAP_LOCATIONS.MAP_PK = MAP.MAP_PK and MAP.NAME=? ORDER BY MAP_LOCATIONS_PK");
    hub.setObjectAt(1,title);
    java.sql.ResultSet resultSet=hub.executeQuery();
    dataTable.setValue(new ResultSetDataModel(resultSet));
    //dataTable.setRows(xMap.length);
    System.out.println("title="+title+" "+dataTable.getRowData());
    hub.prepareStatement("select NAME from MAP where REMOVE=0");
    java.util.Vector v=hub.vectorizeColumnQuery(1);
    for(int i=0; i < v.size(); i++)
    String recipe=(String)v.elementAt(i);
    recipes.add(new SelectItem(recipe, recipe, recipe));

  • Jspc jsps inside WEB-INF?

              jspc skipped jsps inside web-inf folder (eg /webapp/WEB-INF/index.jsp) if -compileAll
              is specified. Is there any way to compile all jsps in a webapp without compiling
              one by one?
              thanks

    How about a look into the doc?

  • Precompile JSP in WEB-INF

    Hi,
    We're using split-directory. Our jsps live inside of WEB-INF to protect them from
    direct accessing. Only the Servlet controller can access jsps. A few questions
    here:
    1. How can I precompile jsps at the compilation time? Appc doesn't work, since
    it assumes jsps always live outside of the WEB-INF.
    2. Where is the output directory that we should set if we can precompile. Our
    jsps are located in WEB-INF/jsps.
    3. Right now we leave the server compile them on fly. But where the compiled classes
    are stored on the server. We deploy the EAR to the server.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    1) Thanks for pointing this out. Indeed appc & jspc (8.1) don't compile jsps
    under WEB-INF and the CR associated with this bug is CR133172. Please
    contact [email protected] to obtain a patch for this issue.
    2) If appc were used on a split directory ear, the .class files for the
    jsps are copied into the destination directory of the split dir (more
    specifically into the webapp module's WEB-INF/classes being compiled)
    3) When compiled at runtime, the default outputDirectory is under the server
    temp dirs : .wlnotdelete/extract/<server-name>_<app/ear-name>_<module-name>/

  • Support for multipart forms in web portlets?

    I have to make a web portlet(in JSP) that allows the user to upload a file. But I got this error...
    [25/06/2001 18:48:27:906 PDT] page/Unexpected exception in servlet
    java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: -119
    at java.lang.String.substring(String.java, Compiled Code)
    at oracle.webdb.page.PageBuilder.parseQuery(PageB uilder.java, Compiled Code)
    at oracle.webdb.page.PageBuilder.getMetaData(Page Builder.java, Compiled Code)
    it seems to me that the Portal page is having trouble extracting the request parameters because it is assuming that the request is wwwurlencoded and not multipart...
    If that is true then there is no way for us to create a web portlet that has an upload facility...whether jsp or servlet...
    What are the possible solutions to get around this?
    null

    If you want to upload files, you cannot submit the request to the portal - it has to be submitted directly to your own web provider (or your own servlet). Once you have processed the multipart document, then the web provider or servlet should re-direct to the portal page the upload portlet is on.
    You can do the redirect by including the page_url from the upload portlet in the request to the servlet that will handle the upload.
    NOTE: the servlet that handles the upload must be accessible from the browser (ie no firewalls)

  • Jsps from pageflow portlet in navigation (or from portlet to book pages)

    Hi all,
    I'm a Weblogic newbie. I was wondering if anyone could please tell me how to get the name or title of a jsp from a pageflow portlet in navigation?
    I have page1.jsp (title: "Step 1"), page2.jsp ("Step 2") and page3.jsp ("Step 3") in a page flow that goes from page1.jsp to page2.jsp to page3.jsp. This page flow is made into a portlet. This portlet is the ONLY thing on the page in the portal book and the ONLY way to get to page3 is from page2 and to get to page2 is from page1, although you can return to page1 at any point.
    I would like my navigation programming--the single level across the top--to show the name of the jsp that is showing or the title. I've seen how to get the book and the pages of the book in the navigation, but not how to get further than that.
    Has anyone else done this?
    Thanks so much in advance.

    Have you resolved this problem? I'm stuck at the same place.

    Thnx, Rajiv

  • Can u Compile JSP into a Servlet?

    Hey,
    I've heard of 'compliling jsp into a servlet.' I'm not sure if this is just reffering to the fact that the jsp/servlet engine does this on the fly when serving a jsp request or if one can actully obtain a .java file out of the jsp without doing it by hand.
    If so, how do you do this??
    THANKS!
    THABARREN

    look in Tomcat's /bin directory for a script called jspc.bat (or jspc.sh) - this can be used from a command line to convert a JSP to a servlet and compile it.
    Alternatively, the web server will have a "working" directory where it puts the servlet files it creates from JSPs (in Tomcat's case it's the "/work" directory). - just look in there after the JSP has been requested by a client.
