Jsp processing on the palm device

Is there a way to process jsp pages on the palm device? how is that?

The palm can be used as a client using a web browser application to connect to a web server that uses JSP, if that's what you mean.
I don't think that you could run a JSP/servlet web server on a palm though. Those systems are not meant for running servers, and likely there are some missing pieces of the JDK on the system if they are using J2ME, which would make it not capable of running at all.

  • Why does VZW not support Yahoo Msgr on the Palm Devices????

    Does anyone know the answer to this and/or a work around?? I love my pixi, but I truly miss my Yahoo! IM.. The Palm devices on the Sprint Network have it.. Why don't we???

    I've been reading the manual on the Pre Plus most of the day and this phone does what I need it to do for me (I definitely won't be using all the capabilities but I love the MiFi as I am paying for pay as you go broadband through another company right now to connect my netbook and the free MiFi is perfect. I'll try Mundu and see if it works for me to get to yahoo...again I don't need it to do a lot of technical stuff just chat back and forth with friends, basic stuff so maybe it will fit my needs or if I can use the Meebo site via the internet since I have unlimited data plan, at least until they come up with something, my heart is really set on this phone! I stopped at a Verizon store today and looked at the display and the saleman actually got a "real" one out so I could see the keys work better than the dummy display. I love it all ready! Or if Yahoo IM forwarding works for it (I was reading other posts that some were having problems with that too) I'll keep it and hope fixes are in the future.
    Some friends are on AIM so maybe I can talk them in to going to AIM rather than Yahoo!

  • What is the CORRECT way to sync with Palm device?

    Under Tiger, do you still need to open the iSync app before syncing with a Palm device? (mine is a Sony Clie SJ22).
    I used to have to sync in this order:
    1. open the iSync app
    2. click "Sync Now" in .Mac Sync in the menu bar
    3. press the Hotsync button on my Clie.
    It worked.
    But I just found this support doc:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302120
    which says: "To sync your Palm OS device with iSync, press the HotSync button on the Palm cradle, cable, or the device itself. Both HotSync and iSync should open during the synchronization. Note: You must initiate the sync from the Palm device or the device will be skipped during the iSync sync."
    I'm confused. I tried doing it this way and iSync does NOT open automatically when I press the Hotsync button--but the .Mac status in the Menu bar is turning to show it's syncing, and my ical items SEEM to be getting updated.
    Can someone help clarify how this is supposed to work? Is this new in Tiger 10.4.4?

    The correct way to synchronize a Palm device using iSync 2 or later is to first insure that all three options in the General section or your iSync Preferences… dialog are enabled:
    √ Enable syncing on this computer
    √  Show HotSync reminder when syncing Palm OS devices
    √ Show status in menu bar
    The each time your synchronize, you should launch iSync. [Or, alternatively, you should have it launched at login and hidden, so that it is running each time you press your HotSync button.]
    The article is mistaken about the HotSync Manager needing to be launched prior to initiating a synchronization, as that task is accomplished whenever you press the HotSync button on your cable or cradle, or otherwise initiate a synchronization event.
    It is true that you must initiate it from the Palm device, a cable or a cradle. Selecting Sync Now from beneath the Sync Status item in your menu bar will not launch the HotSync process, and your Palm device will be skipped.
    These are substantial changes to iSync, which came with the release of iSync 2 and .Mac Sync under Mac OS X 10.4 about seven months ago, and they are a giant step backward for Palm users.
    For that, and many other reasons - including the instability and lack of reliability with iSync 2 and later, I suggest that you take a look at the Missing Sync for Palm OS from Mark/Space:
    http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_palmos.php
    It goes a long way toward addressing the long-term short comings of the iSync Palm Conduit by replacing it with three Mark/Space conduits - Contacts, Events and Tasks - and make synchronization of your Palm device a single-button process once again. It circumvents iSync and deactivates the iSync Palm Conduit and the HotSync Manager, eliminating three troublesome components that are a part of your current configuration. Your SONY Clié PEG-SJ22 is one of the many models supported by this package.

  • Problem with running a java app on a palm device

    Dear all,
    I've just downloaded a midp zip file for the palm device. I have already put the 'midp.prc' file into my palm device and have also put another prc file (java written) onto the palm device as well called 'games.prc' (which came with the zip package).
    Whenever I run the games.prc file, a screen appears saying 'loading java virtual machine'.....and all of a sudden my palm device restarts! This has happend consistently and i dont know why. Should it be doing this? does anyone know?
    Note: I have a palm treo 680 (which uses a palm OS).
    Anybody's help as to knowing why this may be happening, is much appreciated.
    Kind Regards,

    Silly question but you do have your Java ME VM installed right?
    Having the midp prc installed at the same place as your VM also can be helpful (on internal memory or external memory card).

  • Internet Sharing:  Palm Device can't find Internet via USB to Imac G5

    None of the internet-using applications on my Palm Tungsten E handheld can find the internet, via a USB connection from the Palm to my Imac G5 and its high speed internet connection.
    I have 3rd party software (The Missing Sync 5 from Mark/Space) that is supposed to enable a USB-connected Palm device to share an OS X Mac's internet connection. But I'm not getting beyond the Mac and I think either something on the Imac or perhaps my Linksys router is blocking internet communication to and from the Palm device.
    Despite turning off the Mac's firewall and enabling internet sharing in the OS X prefs panes, neither my Palm's web browser nor its mail program can get through to the internet and all I get are communications errors.
    I would greatly appreciate suggestions as to what to try next as I have done just about everything I can think of to try to get this Palm to access the internet via the Mac
    IMAC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   750 Mb RAM

    Hello Adrian - thank you for your suggestions. The USB-connected PALM does NOT show up in The Imac's "Network Ports" - - and the only thing I could add, as a port, that was not already there, was something called "6 to 4" -whatever that is.
    The Palm is supposed to be able to get its internet page requests out onto my router and DSL line via the Mac's ethernet port when: A) this Palm is connected to the Mac via USB and B) when the Internet sharing feature is enabled in a software app called - The Missing Sync, which it is, and when C) Internet Sharing is turned on in the Mac 'Sharing' pref. All these conditions are true, but sadly none of the internet apps on the Palm can find the internet .
    I suspect a DNS issue - even though my router of course knows the DNS addresses of my ISP.
    I should think that the PALM and the host Mac would have the same IP address - namely the one assigned via DHCP by my router when the Mac boots up.
    Very frustrating....
    I know nothing about Palms but I'll give it a
    shot...
    You say "Despite turning off the Mac's firewall and
    enabling internet sharing in the OS X prefs panes",
    are you seeing a USB option in the window? If so
    select it.
    If not try going to System Preferences>Network>Show:
    Network Port Configurations. (This with the Palm
    plugged in via USB).
    Is it in that window? If it is tick it and go back to
    internet sharing and select it in that window. (It
    should have now appeared).
    If it's not in System Preferences>Network>Show:
    Network Port Configurations; select 'New', and click
    'Port'. Does it appear in the drop-down list there?
    If it does, select it, name it and click OK. (Note:
    USB isn't a 'normal' option here but maybe your
    Missing Sync will have added it..?)
    That will take you back to the main Network Port
    Config window where you tick it if it isn't already.
    Then go back to Sharing>Internet to see if is
    available there. If is is, tick it.
    If it isn't, don't know. Sorry.
    Have fun!

  • HT1296 Synching Palm Device

    How do you synch an address book from a palm device to an iphone 4?

    You would have to sync the Palm device to a supported address book/contact application on the computer. From there, sync that information to the phone. I believe there is a software package that will take the Palm phonebook and from there you have to import it into something like Outlook.

  • Can two Palm devices use the same Hot Sync ID?

    Can two Palm devices share the same Hot Sync ID using the same desktop? I presently owe a Treo 700p with a lot of purchased software. I'm considering buying a Palm TX handheld and would like to use both devices using the same Hot Sync ID. Is this possible and should there be any synchronization issues if they are syncing to the same desktop?

    You will be assured of unpredictable device behavior, random crashes, spontaneous resets, and other delights described in one of the boxes in the Read This First flyer if you sync two very different device models (phone vs. PDA, different screen sizes, etc.) to the same Hotsync ID on the same computer.
    This can be done but you will have to treat each sync as an Upgrade, rename the Backup folder, and reinstall third-party applications, reset your preferences, basically the entire process involving multiple syncs every time you sync. I don't think the headache involved is worth it.
    Suggest you decide which third-party apps you want on your second device and get an additional licence and registration from the developers.

  • Howto process non .jsp files wiht the jsp processor?

    I am building an application that uses a tag to include some resources to the page. This tag simple get in the context the bean assossiated with the tag and include it in its own stead.
    An engine process the request setting in the request scope a bean to be used by the tag. For the above example it would do:
    request.setAttribute( bean.getName(), bean );For example, in a given teen.jsp page I would have a tag:
    <sgc:resource name="menu" />One of the beans properties is the uri of the resource being included, this is configurable with a XML file, so that if I have the entry(it is cleaned out from non related stuff):
                <page name="teen.page"
                    wireframe="teen.jsp"
                    region="SP,RJ" >
                    <description>Descrio da pgina.</description>
                    <resource name="menu" location="menu.cnt" region="SP,RJ"/>
                    <resource name="content" location="teen1.cnt" region="SP"/>
                    <resource name="content" location="teen2.cnt" region="RJ"/>
                </page>When a request for teen.page reach the server, the engine find out the user data and create beans according to it, for example if it is from SP, the engine will populate a resource bean with the location set to teen1.cnt and will forward the request to teen.jsp. In teen.jsp there will be tag that will include teen1.cnt.
    All of this works fine as long as I don't use serverside tags in the cnt files. Yet I need the cnt files to be JSP processed.
    I searched for it in this forum and I googled for it, the closer answer I got for this was:
    http://www.jguru.com/faq/view.jsp?EID=254460
    I tryied it, but the server give me a error telling:
    javax.servlet.ServletException: Wrapper cannot find servlet class org.apache.jasper.runtime.JspServlet or a class it depends on
         org.apache.catalina.valves.ErrorReportValve.invoke(ErrorReportValve.java:118)I am using tomcat 5.0.28 and this class seem to be part of it. I didn't found any solution to this. Anyone has any sugestion?
    As a side note, if I use .jsp as an extention to my resources, everything goes fine, but I would prefer to use cnt unless I cant solve this.
    Thanks for your time,
    Notivago.
    May the code be with you.

    Hello there!!
    Thanks for the help. I assigned dukes for you both. The change in the web.xml in the tomcat's conf directory did worked well. This web.xml already has a servlet defined:
        <servlet>
            <servlet-name>jsp</servlet-name>
            <servlet-class>org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServlet</servlet-class>
            <init-param>
                <param-name>fork</param-name>
                <param-value>false</param-value>
            </init-param>
            <init-param>
                <param-name>xpoweredBy</param-name>
                <param-value>false</param-value>
            </init-param>
            <load-on-startup>3</load-on-startup>
        </servlet>and I just had to add mine:
    <servlet-mapping>
            <servlet-name>jsp</servlet-name>
            <url-pattern>*.cnt</url-pattern>
        </servlet-mapping>In my previous attempt I had to add both entries to the application web.xml, but as it was stated in the previous post it didn' t worked. I guess that diferent class loaders are used for eache one of this and the class org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServlet isn't avaiable to the deployed application.
    Thanks again,
    Notivago.
    May the code be with you.

  • Modify jsp content (before the jsp processing!)

    Hi!
    I would like to modify the jsp content before jsp processing (like at tags, but there the outgoing HTML content is modified not the clear jsp)
    So this is what is want: for example i would like to introduce a tag and this tag will modify the jsp content (it will put some jsp lines) and after the whole jsp will be processed and we get a HTML what is displayed in the client.
    for example this is the JSP:
    <html>
        <body>
            <mytags:grid data="apple,lemon" />
        </body>
    </html>it will change to this (for example):
    <html>
        <body>
            <% String data = "apple,lemon"; %>
            <jsf:grid data="<%=data%>" />
        </body>
    </html>the container will process this and generates a HTML page.
    So is there any chance to do this?
    Thanks!
    ric flair

    Here is an example:
    If you put the following in the JSP page, the JSP page will outtput one of the two html tags specified.
    Note this example uses java scriptlets (the html is sent to the client, not the scriplets).A better approach is to use JSTL.
    A book on JSP will better explain the use of JSP.
    <% if ( item.length()>0 ){%>
    <input type="text" name="firstName">
    <%}else{%>

  • Open Letter to Palm Regarding the Palm Treo 755p

    Dear Palm,
    As a devoted Palm user for the past 15+ years, I have been praising the versatility, convenience and user friendly Palm hardware/software to my colleagues and family for as many years. As a result many have purchased Palm products and have come to rely upon them as much as I do.
    Recently I finally gave in and took the leap to consolidate my multiple media devices (laptop: email, phone: calls, Palm TX:notes,passwords,video,books,spreadsheets,contacts,calendar,etc.) into one unit with the Palm Treo 755p. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO DISAPOINTED IN A PALM PRODUCT! After transferring all of my info from my TX to my 755p, and activating the phone itself, I began the process of setting up my VersaMail account to enable me to sync my work email through the Exchange ActiveSync program. In typical Palm fashion, it was fairly easy to set up once I had obtained the necessary info from my IT department and I was soon getting my email in the Palm of my hand (pun intended). All was well! Or so it seemed...
    Shortly after getting everything set up, I contacted my Dr. to set up an appointment later this month, and, in typical fashion, I opened my Palm Desktop Manager to update my calendar with the appointment so I could sync it up with my Palm during the next HotSync. After performing the HotSync, I realized that not only did the appointment NOT transfer from the Palm Desktop, ALL of my personal contacts and calendar events had been forced into my work email account!! I immediately became alarmed because I do not want my personal life (i.e. Dr. appointments, church activities, etc.) advertised to those whom I have granted rights to work on my work email account when requested to do so. I immediately sought out help from the Palm.com help forums and found that MANY people were experiencing the same problem. I performed all of the tricks that I could find (erasing everything, reloading software, hard resets, etc.) but no luck; I could not keep my personal information (contacts & calendar) in Palm Desktop and use my VersaMail for just that - MAIL. After researching further, I found that when using either the Exchange ActiveSync setup or the GetGood program, that the user is forced to surrender all options related to how the calendar and contacts are handled - DESPITE the options built into the program that indicate otherwise. I have since removed all email synchronization accounts from my 755p and have been attempting to re-establish the ability to successfully HotSync my calendar and contact information with the Palm Desktop Manager. I am also working with my IT department to see about the possibility of establishing a POP3 account for my work email - which in my opinion is a completely inferior option; in addition to being most likely unavailable despite the fact that many in the company of 60,000 employees are now facing the same problem with their own Palm Treo devices
    - I now have a phone/PDA that does not do what it was advertised to do.
    - I have lost my confidence and faith in Palm (this did not come lightly; I have been attempting to work through this issue for the past two weeks in all of my spare time).
    - I am still unable to successfully HotSync my contact/calendar info with the Palm Desktop Manager (despite hard reset on the phone & no associated email accounts on the phone) & it does not indicate why (it does not revert to "do nothing" in the manager as it did previously).
    - I have no way to check my work email account remotely.
    - Unfortunately because of schedule limitations I do not have the time to sit on the phone with Palm Tech Support, I have been completely unsuccessful in launching the technical support chat program, and I have been unable to find any type of email address where I could express my concerns in a more professional manner, rather than airing this over a worldwide forum.
    Does anyone have any advice, knowledge, fixes, hacks, etc. that can help? I really don't want to lose the investment (time and financial) I made in this upgrade, and I REALLY do NOT want to move over to the dark side (Blackberry).
    Most of all, and scoff/call me old fashioned all you want, I do not want to give up on Palm. I still feel that they are a good company that cares about their customers and provides (for the most part) a quality product and I would prefer to give them the brand loyalty I have for the past years, and hopefully many to come.
    This is my first time using this venue to communicate with Palm, I have selected to be notified if there is a reply to this message as I prefer not to leave my personal contact information in this open forum. I am looking forward to hearing from you [Palm] to see what can be done to address my concerns.
    Sincerely,
    Chad B.
    Post relates to: Treo 755p (Sprint)

    Ridius,
    Success! Wow, what an endeavor! I had already tried using the HotSync troubleshooting before I turned to the forums so as I expected, I was unable to find a resolution there. Here's what I did next:
    • Before using the Registry Fix utility, I exported all of my "good" files (memos, contacts, calendar, tasks) from my TX. I then wiped everything from the Treo 755p through another hard reset.
    • Downloaded the Registry Fix utility, erased all existing profiles on my computer, re-downloaded the Palm Desktop Manager v6.2.2 and installed it over all existing Palm software on the computer
    • Performed an initial HotSync and then tested each feature (contacts, memos, calendar, tasks) one at a time with a HotSync in between each one. Success!
    • I then went through and instead of loading the profile from my TX, I obtained the most up to date software versions of the most often used additional programs and loaded each one, one by one & performing a successful HotSync each time before moving on to the next.:
    o MegaLauncher v6.44
    o Agendus for Palm OS Standard Edition v12.04
    o Documents To Go v8.002
    o CacheMate v4.1.2
    o A new-to-me program called Passwords Plus v1.006 since my old "Secret" program was obsolete and I could not find an updated version.
    o MiniTones 0.1b (for Palm OS)- just found this a few days ago and it is the greatest for using MP3's on your SD card for ringers, plus its free!
    o I was unable to find an updated version of Big Clock and I refrained from loading the previous versions after reading that it has been known to cause crashes on newer Palm OS. (darn! The price was right; free, and it was an excellent program too!)
    So far I have been able to perform successful HotSync’s every time with only one consistent error each time (even before the additional programs were loaded):
    "Backed up some files successfully to Treo 755p's Backup folder
    •Duration: 7.6 seconds
    •Failed to backup 1 file(s)
    •PmTraceDatabase
    •Protocol Error: Handheld file could not be opened. (4004)
    •SYNCERR_FILE_NOT_OPEN"
    Any ideas here?
    I have not yet attempted to do anything with my work computer yet, it will take a while to get the IT department to update Palm Desktop Manager to v6.2.2 on the company servers and I feel this was one of many critical updates leading to the fix that ultimately resolved my problem.
    All in all, this experience & working with you has renewed much of my faith in Palm – I am only hoping that I can find similar success with the one issue that started all of this (i.e. upgrade to a all-in-one device, time/financial investment, 2+ weeks of troubleshooting & wasted effort, etc.); the need to keep my personal calendar/contact info OUT of my company email/files, while at the same time having the ability to use the Exchange ActiveSync program to view my work email only. Most likely this will require a lot more finger crossing and outcry from the public. For the sake of myself, the many other users of the Palm Treo 755p within my company of 60,000 and those going through the same issue all over the world, I hope that the wait is not too long.
    Most of all, I want to thank you for your assistance, kindness, and dedication to providing exceptional service to me and the thousands of others that you have helped directly & indirectly through this and other threads. Whether or not you are able to help me with resolving the last HotSync issue listed above or not, you have been nothing short of amazing and will have my continued vote of confidence in your abilities. I can only hope that those current leaders within the Palm organization will take the time to review this and so many other threads that you have participated in to see what a quality employee you are, so that your talents can be put to use in leading others to follow in your footsteps.
    Sincerely,
    Chad B.

  • Programming for Palm devices.

    Two simple question this time.
    1. What do I need to start developing applications for Palm devices?
    2. Does anybody know any good references for beginners in this matter.
    Kind regards and thanks in advance,
    Kurt.

    I've successfully got a java app running using the J2ME... I think there was a Palm-specific version I downloaded. Basically, it comes with a Palm micro VM, that takes up about 300K on your Palm. Then your java classes are packaged using a special utilitiy into PDB files, which you can directly run on the Palm.
    This works pretty well, as long as you stick to the basic libraries that come with the J2ME. If you try to do anything fancy, the overhead from linking in all the external Java classes (taken care of for you, mostly, by the PDB packager) becomes a little extreme.. try doing XML processing, for instance, and you'll end up with a 500K program...

  • DVD Burn problem. "Device error - the target device isn't suitable for use"

    Hello everyone,
    I initially had a lot of problems with PE8. However the nVidia driver update solved most of them.
    Just thought it was important to report success as well as failure!
    However one problem remains. I get the following error at the 96% mark while burning. "Device error - the target device isn't suitable for use". It is always at the 96% mark and the program is "compiling [something]" when this happens.
    Having searched this site I notice that user rgferg posted a similar problem 13 days ago but was redirected to repost in a different place, but never did.
    I have tried to burn a 1hr clip 4 times and every time I have selected the slower burn speed (8MB/s) as has been suggested. It seems that inferior media is a culprit, so I have bought some [quality] Verbatim DVD-R media to try in my Phillips SATA optical drive. I am sceptical this will work, but open minded nonetheless. I will give it a whirl when my computer has stopped capturing the VHS I am working on.
    Each time the burn failed the disk was automatically ejected and the burn process had actually started and progressed perhaps ~40% or so.
    This indicates to me that it is a drive sharing issue, rather than a media issue. Somewhere on this forum it suggests that I go through a 20+ step process and delete/disable every piece of software that can compete with Premiere among other things. IF I do this what do I burn with outside of Adobe? Do I have to get imgburn or whatever it was called? What if I like Nero? Nero 6 has worked great for me for 3 years.
    So given I am willing to uninstall my old optical drive burning software, who out there can recommened commercial software that for them creates a painless Adobe burning experience with no errors or conflicts? Perhaps there is another solution that I did not see on this forum?
    I am running Windows XP SP3. I have the latest nVidia drivers for my SLI GeForce 7600 GS cards. I have 3 monitors. RAID 0 SATA, 2GB RAM, Athlon X2 5400.
    Justin.

    OK been working through the list of 20 things Adobe recommends to fix DVD burn error. No luck yet:
    system meets minimum requirements
    Project size does not exceed disk capacity
    successfully burned project to DVD folder -thus skip to step 8.
      8.   Using new blank media for burning
      9.   Try different media and DVD burners. Bought Verbatim DVD-R. Don't have another DVD burner. Adobe's supported burner list is VERY short, so of course mine is not on it.
      10.  Uninstalled Nero 6. Did NOT uninstall Acronis True Image workstation or Lightscribe. These do not access the drive unless I say so!
      11.  Have not yet disabled startup items and services. This will take a lot of work and will leave to last. Deactivated Spybot thus far.....
      12.  Disabled IMAPI CD burning COM
      13.  DMA if available already set. Haven't set this in BIOS yet. I already think it is, but will check next boot.
      14.  Updated DVD firmware
      15.  Already updated nVidia drivers
      16.  Don't have any other DVD drives to disconnect.
      17.  MPEG workaround. Will resort to if required.
      18.  Disable Autoplay? XP only has "prompt me each time to choose an action". I have set this for ALL file types.
      19.  Have NOT refreshed the DVD drivers in the registry. This step involves uninstalling PE8. Will leave this as last resort.
      20.  Visit forums to see if other have the same problem. Hi guys
    So still working through some of the items above.
    Can anyone direct me to advice on how to write the encoded files sent to the hard drive, or the VOB files that PE8 failed to burn to a disk? Will the former work with DVD menus?
    What a process.
    Stay tuned.
    Justin.

  • Published iCal will not sync with Palm device

    I had been synching my iCal to my Palm device. I recently published my iCal calendar and To Do list on .Mac. Now I can no longer make changes to my calendar on iCal, nor can I see any To Do's. When I tried to sync my Palm device, all calendar and To Do items were deleated from the Palm. Can anyone help? I have now spent several hours trying to recreate my calendar and to do list. Needless to say, I am extremely frustrated and disappointed with the way the iCal publish function works. One solution might be to 'unpublish' the calendar, so that I can manage it from iCal on my mac again, but I can't find how to do that.

    Kim or Mike,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Before you do anything else, make sure that you use the iCal>File>Back up Database... feature.
    In regard to recreating the calendar, if you open the web version of the calendar you can use the "Download" link on the web page to get the calendar on your desktop. Then use iCal to import the download: iCal>File>Import...
    Then, after clicking on the published calendar in the source window, if you wish to Unpublish, use the iCal>Calendar>Unpublish... feature.
    Since I do not use the Palm, I am unable to address that aspect of your question/problem.

  • How to sync my Zire 31 with the palm Desktop Software on a Windows 7 PC

    Hi everybody
    My notebook died (vista) so I had to buy a Windows 7 hp model.
    Now I could install the software but the PC doesn't recognize my handheld device.
    A sync is not possible.
    Can anybody tell me how I can make my device known to the system or do I have to leave the Palm world altogether an buy me an ipod?
    I would really like to keep syncing with my palm.
    Thanks in advance.
