JSP to Java

hi!
I'm a beginner to jsp, and want to do the following:
- Pass 2 input parameters (name and city) from test.jsp to test.java using <jsp:setproperty ....>
- Use <jsp:getproperty ....>, and get the values (name and city) from test.java
Here's test.jsp:
<%@ page import="java.io.*,testing.test" %>
<jsp:useBean id="obj" class="testing.test" scope="page">
<jsp:setProperty name="obj" property="*" /> Works fine
<jsp:setProperty name="obj" property="name" /> I get an error that "name" is not found in test.java
</jsp:useBean>
<%
String name = request.getParameter("name");
String city = request.getParameter("city");
//out.println("Name :"+ name + "<br>");
//out.println("City :"+ city + "<br>");
String message = obj.getMessage();
out.println("Message from java class :"+ message); // works fine
%>
Here's the test.java:
package testing;
public class test
private String name;
private String city;
public void setName(String name) {
     this.name = name;
public String getName() {
return name;
public void setCity(String city) {
     this.city = city;
public String getCity() {
return city;
public String getMessage()
return "hello again...........";
Please tell me where I'm going wrong.
Thanks in advance

There's nothing wrong with this code - I just tested it and it works fine. Any chance that a prior version of the bean did not have a setName() method? Try recompiling testing.test and check that the class file is located where you expect it to be and has the write timestamp.

    You need to elaborate "not working" in developer's perspective instead of in user's perspective.

  • Is it possible to call the SQL Server DB from jsp to java?

    im doing a configurable system where you can create your own table using the system. i can do the creation of table by running the statement CREATE TABLE...........(with attributes) in java.
    Let's say i have created tblST1 with attributes st_ID, st_Name, st_Description.
    My problem is i dont know if it's possible to retrieve all the attributes from jsp to java.

    jverd: i need your help. Iv read all the links u posted but im having a hard time in understanding them.
    For the site http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/sql/ResultSetMetaData.html , there's a code there which is...
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT a, b, c FROM TABLE2");
    ResultSetMetaData rsmd = rs.getMetaData();
    int numberOfColumns = rsmd.getColumnCount();
    boolean b = rsmd.isSearchable(1);
    what i did was, i inserted it in my java code which is :
    public boolean checkFieldTable2()
              boolean checked = false;
              try
                   IRMS_DBConnect db = new IRMS_DBConnect();
                   db.openCon();
                   ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT a, b, c FROM TABLE2");
              ResultSetMetaData rsmd = rs.getMetaData();
              int numberOfColumns = rsmd.getColumnCount();
              boolean b = rsmd.isSearchable(1);
                   db.closeCon();
                   checked = true;
              catch (Exception ex)
                   System.out.println("Error on Execution: " + ex);
              return checked;
    and i compiled it and there was an error that the variable stmt was not initialized. Am i doing the right way?

  • Questions/answers from jsp to java bean

    Hi
    This is what i need to do .
    I am showing some questions, say 4 of them , and radio buttons(yes/no) as answers in the JSP.
    Now how do i transfer these questions and their answers from jsp to java bean .
    I did try hashmap ,but not quite working .
    any help?
    thanks

    Name each radiobutton differently, and then provide 1 property and accessor methods for each of your four answers in the JavaBean, with the same name as specified in the HTML FORM.
    So in the HTML:
    <input type="radio" name="answerOne" value="true"...>
    and then have a property named answerOne with accessor methods in the javaBean...

  • What's the relationship between JSP and Java?

    hi,dear friends here.......^_^ I'm a graphic/web designer,
    cause the needed of internet web design, I started to learn html and Java server page.But I never have experience of JAVA programs. It's kind of hard for me to know and use JSP now.Should i need to learn Java first? Or can anyone tell me what's the good way for me to
    learn JSP?
    I also want to learn how do make a web page as the first page of java.sun.com about "Industry News ".
    Thanks !!grace from Taipei,Taiwan

    Hi! JSPs allow Java code together with HTML in one document. The servlet engine "compiles" a JSP into a servlet prior to executing it. So, one must know Java prior to dealing with JSPs.
    IMVHO, "Thinking In Java" by Bruce Eckel is a very good book for introduction to Java. You can download the electronic version at no charge from http://www.bruceeckel.com.
    After you get a good handle on Java, "Professional Java Server Programming" (Wrox Press) can give you good information on servlets and JSPs, along with some other related topics.
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers!

  • JSP vs Java Servelets

    I realize that I'm probably in the wrong place, because I'm not a developer. However, I really don't know where else to turn for help. I used to work in the web dev industry in NYC, now I'm stuck in Little Rock, AR, and I don't know any "answer people."
    I need some advice on whether to use JSP or Java Servelets for my ecommerce site.
    I currently run my brick & mortar retail store on a Java-based Point of Sale (POS) system, with a MySQL relational database. It is a very upscale home furnishings/design store, so the design of the web site really matters.
    My POS vendors have developed a web store interface using Java Servelets, but since the programmers developed it, there is little consideration for design.
    It seems to me, based on my previous experience, that JSP would be the way to go here. I've got a great relational database - wouldn't it be best to have total flexibility in the way data is accessed & displayed?
    If anyone out there can discuss this with me intelligently (without totally going over my head), won't you please help?
    Many, many, many thanks!

    myabigail, I dont know if you are still looking for an answer to your question. I read many good answers on the board already. Based on my many years of experience doing IT type work, I will say that there is a world of difference btw designing a page with servlets vs JSP's. While it is true that JSP's are eventually compiled into servlets, the difference btw them and servlets in syntax and use allows for true separation of concern. Most importantly for you as a business owner, using JSP allows you to create a web site that will be more easily maintained over time, for lower cost. This is because most time your business model will not change, whereas the look of your site will most likely update more frequently (as is typical with most sites). So after initially hiring a Java developer to write your business logic, and a web designer to build your web pages, you will thereafter only need the web designer for updates to your site. The main reason for this is that the bulk of JSP is implemented as a set of tags which look like the regular HTML that a web designer works with on a day to day basis. The learning curve for JSP is very short, most 'webbies' pick it up in a few months. I hope this (long) post helps you out in some useful way!

  • First use of jsp and java bean and "Unable to compile class for JSP" error

    Hi,
    I am trying to create my first jsp + java bean and I get a basic error (but I have no clue what it depends on exactly). Tomcat seems to cannot find my class file in the path. Maybe it is because I did not create a web.xml file. Did I forgot to put a line in my jsp file to import my bean?
    Thank you very much for your help.
    Here is my error:
    An error occurred at line: 2 in the jsp file: /login.jsp
    Generated servlet error:

    I only have this in my directory:
    test/login.jsp
    test/WEB-INF/classes/CMBConnect.java

    Do I need to declare another directory in classes to put my class file in it and package my bean differently?

    and here is my CMBConnect.java:
    import java.sql.Connection;
    import java.sql.DriverManager;
    import java.sql.SQLException;

    else
    returnText = "Connection successful";
    } catch (Exception e) { returnText = returnText + e; }

  • Publishing JSP form JAVA stored procedure [Oracle8i 8.1.7]

    Hi folks,
    I wonder if anybody knows a way to publish JSP from JAVA stored procedure.
    I know there is a way to load java class using PL/SQL package DBMS_JAVA.loadjava(), or
    oracle.aurora.server.tools.loadjava.LoadJavaMain.serverMain() from java.
    But I need somthing like publishjsp to translate the JSP.
    Also would be nice if I can invoke this from a LOB where I have stored my JSP.
    Any ideas?
    Mitko

    I case anyone is interested.
    I managed to find out what I was doing wrong.
    First when you call a stored procedure that is in a package and is a method of a class. You call it referencing the packagename.method. Leaving out the class name. Also, since this was a method that returns a value. The return value has to be assigned to a variable or used in an sql statement. Such as:
    var x number;
    call claimsprocedures.ip(19990033) into :x;call completed
    print x;(then the value is displayed in sql*plus

  • Unable to compile JSP in Java Server

    Hi:
    I have installed Java Application Server Platform Edition 8 locally and attempting to run an application with a JSP. However, when it attempts to compile the JSP, I get the following message:
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP
    No Java compiler was found to compile the generated source for the JSP.
    This can usually be solved by copying manually $JAVA_HOME/lib/tools.jar from the JDK
    to the common/lib directory of the Tomcat server, followed by a Tomcat restart.
    If using an alternate Java compiler, please check its installation and access path.

    I thought that Tomcat came with the implementation of the JAVA server. If so, why am I getting this message? Do I have to also install Tomcat separately? If yes, is there anything I need to know about port conflicts? Java Server is currently using 8080 for HTTP. Please advise as to how I can resolve this problem.

  • Jdeveloper toolbox -  links fail with "Errors compiling:C:\jdevhome\jdev\myclasses\.jsps\\_OA.java"

    Hi,
    I'm running 12.1.3 in virtualbox and the OAF toolbox tutorials work after logging onto EBS.
    After installing jdeveloper (on windows 8) and doing the documented setup, even the "Hello World" test fails when run in jdeveloper.
    I've double checked the setup and that the jdeveloper patch version is right (p9879989_R12_GENERIC)
    and have the "Default Local IP address" checkbox selected as well.
    I guess some windows install/config is incorrect,but don't know what.  Any ideas?
    Thanks.

  • Signature Capture for pocket pc using JSP or JAVA

    hello,
    i need to find a way using jsp or java enviornment in which i can capture the signature which the user has signed on my pocket pc .....??
    please let me know what is the ideal way of doing so and what is the best way to transfer it securely to the server ??
    i am using a pocket pc 2000 on hp jornada 568... so the solution should be supported by pocket pc internet explorer
    thanks in advance & regards, :-))
    Prithipal

    You mean like a hand written signiture right?
    That's awesome, that's a really cool idea. And it's not very hard to implement at all. A java applet will be your best bet. Use version 1.1.8 or something for compatibility. All you have to do make a drawing surface for the user to sign, then send it to the server in one of a varity of ways. I would use a single bit bit map, pixels are on or off.
    For the security end you could have your server run SSL. I don't know if the pocket PC supports that though. If it doesn't, the RSA algorithm is open now, the patent expired, and there are several nice java packages available that implement it. So you can just have the applet read a public key from your server, encrypt the data stream with it as it sends it backs. That will be impossible to crack. ( use at least 64 bit keys. )

If the last record is failed to add to db, "how can I rollback the perivious records?" or guide me to set the commit function to handle that case. Thanks a lot for take your time to read my question.

    Hello.
    The best method is using a session bean and container managed transactions. Other method is using sessions bean and the user transaction object (JTA-JTS).
    so, JDBC has transaction management too.
    good luck.
