Jukebox Zen 20gb Firewire Firmware ask SSR not creative - he's soo goo

Hi
I'm hoping someone can help me - I was trying to clean up my zen and stupidly (it now appears) I thought I would update my firmware after i'd formatted it.
Downloaded the latest firmware (.2.)and ran reload OS on the device - then when told to I ran the firmware update on my laptop, it tries to do the upgrade and then just says "Firmware Upgrade Failed".
Can anyone help me get around this.
btw, if i switch the zen off and then on i get a firmware problem screen and i have to reset it to get to the rescue mode screen.
thanks
J

so it looks like my zen is dead, and so I've been looking for alternati'ves. i have to say that the lack of support from creative does concern me, i guess i've been lucky getting a number of error free years from my zen but looking on here makes me wonder about the number of bad machines out there and the level of support new purchasers are getting.
does anyone have anything good to say about creative support that could change my mind? i'm hovering between the touch and the mini at the moment, but apple's excellent support (i've seen it at first hand) may push me towards an evil ipod.

  • Nomad Explorer not detecting Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra after firmware upgr

<blockquote dir="ltr">From the firmware thread: "The Creative drivers shouldn't make any difference. An MTP device is looking for the Windows Media Player 0 MTP driver (which is installed with WMP0)."[/quote]Is that why my updated Zen Xtras (40G and 60G) are no longer recognized by Nomad Explorer on Windows XP? XP sees them. MediaMonkey sees them (and can synch). (WMP0 is installed, but I haven't tried it.) Nomad Explorer (3.0.0, 22 Sep 2004) says nothing's detected. Is this because I'm still using the latest driver (2.0.00), which the Creative download site says only supports firmware below 2.00.00. (If so, interesting choice by Creative, making us downgrade the driver.)?I wouldn't care, but Nomad Explorer is the only way (I know of) to edit the devices' names and startup bitmaps. And I wouldn't even care so much about the bitmaps, but I really really want to edit the names so that I can tell them apart in MediaMonkey's list of devices. Can we still use Nomad Explorer? Which driver should I be using? Creative's download section is anything but clear:?2.0.00 (8 Oct 2006): Supports XP but the firmware must be below 2.00.00.
.30.03 (3 Sep 2005): Supports XP but was released before firmware 2.0.03, so does it support it's?There's also a legacy OS Driver for Windows 2000 (.0.00, 27 Feb 2006) which specifically says it supports PFS players. Is this what I need? Can we no longer use Nomad Explorer on XP (even though it's listed as a download)?

Thanks, but if the Nomad Explorer requires the suite to work, I'll just have to do without it. The Creative Suite is better than it used to be, but IMO it's still not as good as MediaMonkey. Still, Creative doesn't list the Suite as being required for Explorer to work, so I don't think that's it. From the Download page:?Requirements
Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Millennium Edition or Windows 98 Second Edition<
Creative NOMAD Jukebox 2, 3, Zen, Zen USB2.0, Zen NX, Zen Xtra or Zen Touch<
I'll try the other driver tonight and see if that's it.

  • Jukebox Zen Extra 40GB Firmware 2.10.03; Can't access files same wa

While I have read many postings on this forum over the past couple of weeks, this is my first posting. I just loaded the new firmware (2.0.03) on my player because I wanted to be able to drag-and-drop in Windows Explorer without using the Mediasource software. Unfortunate, the firmware does not allow me to search for my music as it did before the "upgrade." Now, if I search by genre it will list the genres but after choosing a specific genre my choices are now "Play", "Add to Playlist", "Open", "Find a Genre", or "Delete Genre." While before I had additional layers of search options including "View Artists" or "View Tracks" and I could search by genre, artist name, album title and song. Now, I have to search by genre and then I'm given a list of every single album I have of that genre. If there is no fix for this I'll have to return this unit. It would be a shame too because I only paid $30.00 for it at Fry's as a refurbished unit. It appears to be in new condition and the sound quality is excellent.
I just bought a 20GB Zen Touch for my son and we installed the latest firmware (2..0) on his unit and it can still access the music the way mine could before. I actually used his as a guinea pig and thought I would be safe. So much for that!
Is there anything that can be done so I don't have to search through my entire R&B collection to find a single artist or album?
I have one week left in my 30-day trial period before I have to make up my mind if I should return it or not. I'm using Windows Media Center 2005.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Pun

I've seen others where Windows Explorer won't work either, but not seen a direct solution unfortunately.
All I can suggest is the various advice here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.

  • Creative Zen Sleek Photo Firmware Download does not recognize my pla

My Creative Zen Sleek Photo recently froze up. After restarting it, the "firmware problem" screen popped up. After reading up on it a bit, I decided to first clean, then reformat, and then reload the firmware. Everything went smoothly until I went to load the firmware back onto my Zen.
For whatever reason a screen pops up that says that my device is not connected to the computer, when it, in fact, is. I have tried several things including uninstalling Windows Media Player and repeatedly cleaning and reformatting in hopes that it would recognize it.
I have had no prior problems with the computer recognizing the device and I have loaded quite a bit of music onto it through this computer. Can anyone please help? Any more ideas? Anything will be helpful and appreciated. Thanks?

HelloHave a look at this thread http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...ead.php?t=6328?I had a similar problem with a Zen Sleek Photo and I am sure that this was the thread I used to recover the player when a firmware upgrade failed. Regards?

  • Nomad Jukebox ZEN 20GB - 40GB HD chan

    Hi!
A simple question: After having dropped my Zen, I had to open the HD to fix a small problem but now I know I've got to change it before the HD dies on me. So my question is:
Can I substitute the Fujitsu MHR2020AT (20GB) with a MHR2040AT (40GB)? Does it even matter which HD I install as long as it's ATA00?
Thanks for your time and help peeps!

Take a look at this forum post on Nomadness.net http://www.nomadness.net/modules.php...iewtopic&t=225
In short, it does matter what dri'ves you use. Also take a look at Rudi Cheow's upgrade guide, which lists compatible dri'ves also at the end http://www.blurbdesigns.com/ZenUpgrade/

  • Connected zen 20GB to computer w/o creative

I haven't tried yet, what happened if we connect zen 20GB to computer (windows XP) without creative software in normal mode (not removable disk mode)?. What happen if we disconnect zen 20GB (in removable disk mode) without safely remove hardware first ?txmuzarif

    Jason,
Thanks for your reply, actually I connected my zen 20GB to my office computer with linux OS but I use vmware as a emulator to open windows xp, when I disconecting my zen from computer (a removable disk mode) and I already used safely remove hardware in windows xp, my zen screen still indicated do not disconected. I guess that although my zen already interupted/disconnected from windows xp but still connected to linux as OS since I don't know how to safely remove hardware from linux OS and I am not as administrator of that computer, so I just disconnected although my zen screen indicated do not remove hardware. When I doing that my zen look like hang or freeze and I have to restart my zen.
Please help me, is there any safely way for using my zen as removable hard disk in my office with linux OS (and I am not as administrator)? I want my zen as removable hard disk in windows environtment with linux OS as mention above.
    Thanks

  • Jukebox Zen XTRA Firmware update fail

I have a nomad jukebox zen XTRA 40GB. I recently saw an update for PlayforSure on the creative website. As i have done earlier, i had tried updating the firmware. It asked me to backup and run the formware. I sincerely backed up and started the firmware. This went for about a minute and said its rebooting the player which never happened for a nice hour. Now the firmware is not completed and when i try to reload os from the recovery options, the firmware update program says palyer is not connected. I had verified it in DEvice manager. The player is been seen as Nomad Jukebox/ MTP device. I tried starting the player and it says "Firmware Problem". i also tried loading the original firmware which says "Player not connected". I had updated latest driver.
    Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks for the info. I just wanted to know is there anyway Creative has to redo the whole thing. Like removing all of the firmware and rebuild it. I am looking for some tool or some way to remove the incomplete firmware on the player.
Rightnow, my player is just a paper weight for me. I dont want to be used like this..
    Please help me further

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra: Nomad Explorer says Not connected ... first time u

I just bought a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra. I used the installation CD to install everything and Windows automatically tried to locate a driver for it but it was not successful, so I downloaded the driver for the Zen Xtra from this website and installed it.
However, when I open "Nomad Explorer" it shows the player's logo with a red X and says "Not connected". How do I get the player to connect to the computer?
This is my first time using a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra and I have limited computer knowledge, but I know all my USB ports are working.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    -John

Hi!?I'm having the same problem. I bought the player, but after a couple of weeks I've exchanged it, because of some hardware problem. The original player worked all right, but the new one is not recognized by NOMAD Explorer ("not connected"), and?I also?can't copy files via Windows Explorer. The strange thing is I managed to copy a couple of albums, but then it'sstarted to hang the Explorer. The firmware version is 2.0.03. I reinstalled the drivers and NOMAD Explorer - didn't help. PS: You've got to help me, 'cause my iPod-loving friends laugh at me, so it's my and Creative's reputation we're talking about

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra Firmware Update Issue

My player does not get recognized after attempting to update firmware (ZenXtraP4SAudible_PCFW_LB_2_0_03.exe) according to website instructions.
When turned on the player displays "Firmware Problem" for a fraction of a second, then it goes into Rescue Mode v., Boot v.4, HW v0.0., 4 items in the menu ( Clean Up; 2 Format All; 3 Reload OS; 4 Reboot)
    This is my setup:

    Creative MediaSource
    Creative NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra
    Windows Media Format Runtime
    Windows Media Player 0
    Please advise, thanks in advance,

    Problem solved!
I did not follow the link you provided, thanks for the suggestion anyway. I read in another post that you advised to disable the device in Device Manager, although I took a different route. This is what I did after enabling Mediasource DETECTOR
. Completely uninstall Windows Media Player , revert to WMP 0, inlcuding the Runtime
    2. Reboot the PC
    2. Once rebooted connect the player to the PC
    3. right click MY COMPUTER->MANAGE->DEVICE MANAGER
    4. Under Windows Portable Devices right click NOMAD JUKEBOX ZEN XTRA, then select Update Drivers
    5. Navigate to "C:\Program Files\Creative\Jukebox 3 Drivers" to select the driver, OK all the windows
    6. Run ZenXtraP4SAudible_PCFW_LB_2_0_03.exe with the player connected
    7. I was prompted if I wanted to replace the Firmware with the same version (2.0.03) I said yes... within seconds the player came back to normal.
I hope that the above can help people in my same situation. The culprit seems to be WMP and all the hidden software installed with it. Freakin Microsoft!
Final question. Now that the firmware has been updated, am I safe by installing WMP ?
    Thanks!

  • Nomad jukebox zen xtra firmware quest

    Hello all,
happy to be on the boards. I have a few questions I would like to ask:
) what product do I have? on the front it says "nomad jukebox zen xtra" with 40gb on the side. is it a "zen xtra" or a "nomad jukebox"? I was trying to find updated firmware, but found both "zen xtra" and "nomad jukebox" on the creative site.
    2) i've read horror stories of firmware 2..03. is there newer or firmware that works?
    3) is there a way to treat this player as a regular hard dri've? as in when I plug it into Windows/Linux (Debian linux), it will be recognized as a regular hard dri've without much trouble?
    Thanks all!

    Oo
    ps.
I didn't mean to take the hard dri've out and use it as a computer hard dri've. I meant: is there a way (maybe changing firmware?) to make the creative plug and play with windows without installing drivers?
An example: I want to go to a friend's house, plug my creative in, and copy a 5gb ISO off his computer. This is assuming he doesn't have the creative drivers.
I read that the 2..03 (or whatever the bad one is called) is supposed to allow this. Any solutions?

  • No power after firmware upgrade on nomad jukebox zen xtra

I have the nomad jukebox zen xtra 30gig that froze up over a year ago after i tried to install the firmware upgrade. After the unsuccessful attempt, the mp3 player stopped working.... I mean no power at all. I've changed the battery and recharged the battery from an outside source...still no luck. I can't even try any of the suggestions anyone gives on this site because I have no power.Does anyone have this problem? More important, does anyone have this problem and know of a solution?I've already set my pc back to wmp 0, I have the firmware on the desktop waiting. Now all I need is some power on this unit so that i can try some of the suggestions that seems to be working for people. Thank you

I have the same problem too, but my unit is a?Creative Normad Junebox Zen Xtra 40GB. I was trying to find a solution to my problem when I read about your problem. I have pressed the reset button, on / off switch, removed the battery, reinstalled the battery, and nothing seems to work. I was hoping you?might get a solution to this problem, so that I might be able to fix my MP3 player. If I hear of a solution, I will let you know, thanks for sharing. Issue:? While updating the firmware to the Zen Xtra 40 GB, the unit powered down and?has never came on again. There seems to be no real reason why the unit should not power up. The battery and the AC adapter are working correctly. I am very disappointed in Creative...

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen NX 20GB locking up

I just bought a Nomad Jukebox Zen NX off a friend and it worked fine last night. I transferred 800 songs onto it and then deleted them all this morning so I could re-organize. Now it's locked up. Doesn't matter if I use battery power or AC power. It turns on fine, goes straight to the menu and then nothing. The scroll won't work, my laptop won't recognize it or anything. Any ideas? Thanks

I assume you've got the manual, yes? It probably needs to be reset, and/or have the firmware reinstalled (the manual is online, so you can do that). Find a pin or paperclip, and hit the rest button. Should probably fix it. Worst case scenario, you can wipe the dri've and reinstall the firmware. I believe you hit the reset button and hold down the play button till it gets you to the menu with the reformat/rescue stuff.
If your computer still won't recognize it after that, though I'm not sure. I'm having similar problems with my refurbished Zen Touch.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB not playing correctly anymore, help!!

Thanks. I keep getting directed to that knowledge base page, but it is not addressing my problem. My computer immediately tells me that the device has "malfunctioned" and the computer does not recognize it. I only have the usb cord that came with the zen, so I don't have another one to try. I love my zen and have staunchly defended it over the years vs. an i-pod. However, this is my 2nd onI've had my Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB for over 5+ years. It has worked great, with minimal problems. I had a firmware update issue quite a while back. I'm not sure how to resolve this problem. Here is the situation:
Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB is fully charged and ready to use.
I tried loading a set playlist but it won't load. So I tried another, and it doesn't load. Not sure what to do, I go to the menu. This time I choose an artist/band. The music loads, but it doesn't play. I try again, then it starts to play. So I load a few other artists that way. It seems like I had a issue to work out later. Being away from my computer that was going to have to wait. After some time the Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB started to start N stop diferent songs. A few times it froze while playing a song. Then would unfreeze to play another, then suddenly start playing the previous one. After about 0-5 minutes of this I decided I had enough. So I planned to empty the playlist, and turn it off. It took me atleast three attempts to empty the playlist and turn it off.
Are these problems fixable What are they hardware or software
Would an OS or firmware update fix these problems Is my Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB hard dri've going Can I get a replacement Or do I need to buy a new player
Please help me get my player working. I really like this model, I'd hate to have to replace it.
in 5 years. (The first one fried itself, but fortunately was still under warrantly.) Sadly, I, too, am considering moving on. I onlyreceived generic help fromthe Creative SupportTeam (who ultimately told me my zen is "unrepairable" when their one-size-fits-all solutions didn't work).Since there seems to be an overwhelming # of people experiencing similar problems, maybe the time is right to make the change, especially since an iPod classic 60 GB (7th Generation) is quite affordable these days.
    [/B]

Formatting will erase all the files on the player,Cleanup scans the disc & corrects file system errors, broken links (from when you delete things)ect. but does NOT repair bad sectors,Reboot then rebuilds the file system. I'd do the Cleanup>Reboot first to see if that solves the problem.here you will find how to open the player to see what dri've is in there. You can then search Ebay or Google the model number to find another one.
