Jukebox zen extra reboot prob

My 40 gB Jukebox Zen Extra reboots fairly frequently, no matter how gently I handle it. The simple act of putting it into my pocket can cause it to reboot. I see no reference to this problem in the FAQ. Has anyone else had this problem? I've only had the player since February of this year.

I contacted Creative's support people via e-mail. They suggested that it was a firmware problem. I uninstalled the original firmware and downloaded and installed the updated version from their website, per their recommendation.
Took the player out with me this morning, and it still seems to have the same problem. Recommendations would be welcomed.

• Jukebox Zen Xtra sound prob

Hi, I've had my Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra for more than 2 years and have had little problems with it. However, now I cannot get any sound out of the left speaker of any type of speaker/earphones I plug into the audiojack. This is not a speaker/earphone problem, they work with any audio equipment. I can get sound out of both left and right speakers/phones if I plug the jack only 80% into the audiojack. But if I plug the jack all the way into the player, only the right speaker/phone works. Any suggestions as to how to fix this problem?

Hello There,
I am experiencing the exact same problem - "Device not connected, even though I can see the device as a virtual dri've on my XP SP2 PC. I have contacted creative tech support and followed their instructions to the letter with no success.
Creative tech support instructed me to try the following:
MaKe sure that my antivirus software, firewall and spy ware is turned off. Their thinking was that some services are effect the connection between the MP3 device and USB port.

Also I tried booting my XP PC in safe mode, ensuring the most of the services were turned off .. i.e. firewall, virus protection, etc. Still can not get the device to connect.

align=center>The Error message on the Device itself (Zen Xtra display) reads as follows:Firmware error on reboot -- error message simply states "firmware problem" then goes to Rescue Mode v.3 - Boot v.4, HW v0.0.displays following 4 options: Clean Up2: Format all3: Reload OS4: RebootTried all four options and still getting same error message.
I am going to try and load the original firmware that came with Zen Xtra, if that works I will try to upgrade the firmware to the latest release.
Later tonight I will get a chance to attempt these actions. I will post my results later.

• Nomad Jukebox Zen Extra has no power, no

I was uploading new software for a Zen extra, and got the wrong firmware (ZenXtraP4SAudible_PCFW_LB_2_0_03.exe). I started the upgrade and the zen froze at a reboot point. I reset the unit, and now it does not give any indication of having any power (battery fully charged and ac adapter plugged in and working).
When I tried to restart the firmware update, I get a message that the zen is not connected. Can this machine be saved?
Jimfred

If you leave the player for several weeks with a discharged battery it can either (a) damage the battery beyond repair or (b) cause the battery voltage to drop so low that it won't be recharged. For the latter situation there's advice here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net on what to do. But BEWARE that in certain situations Lithium Ion batteries can catch on fire or explode.

• NOMAD JUKEBOX ZEN XTRA - Reboot OS - 2 1/2 YEARS' PROBL

I encountered a connection problem between my pc and the jukebox. They did not communicate with each other. My pc did not detect the jukebox and visa versa. I then did the following -
JUKEBOX:
Clean Up
Reboot
Reload OS (which it won t do). The message I receive is "Firmware Problem"
On the jukebox, when trying to reload OS I receive a message START FIRMWARE UPDATE NOW. I do not know how to do this.
My ZenXtra is now in Rescue Mode Vl 3 and there is no way I can reload it if the laptop is not detecting the jukebox.
After downloading MP3 Player Recovery Tool, the message I get is ADMINISTRATOR, NO SUPPORT DEVICE DETECTED (it was in fact, connected with a USB cable).
WHAT I HAVE DONE
I have reinstalled the software to my pc;
I have connected the jukebox to USB, but there still is no connection;
I have installed the software to a different laptop in an attempt to work from a different pc -The message I receive - NO DRIVER DETECTED.
The operating program is Windows 2003PLEASE, IS THERE ANYBODY WHO CAN HELP ME I DO NOT WANT TO LOSE MY MUSIC ON THIS APPLIANCE. AND, I DO WANT TO USE IT, AFTER ALL. THANKS IN ANTICIPATION. MaggieSA (South Africa)

First you must install the driver http://support.creative.com/Products...me=MP3+Players on the computer. Have a battery that is charged. What you did is you erased the firmware(reload O.S.)so the player has none. That is why you got the message you got. You are going to lose all the files(music) on the player because when you install the firmware? you are going to format the dri've before you do that.
Download & install the driver first. The version 2.0.00 driver Then check to see if player is recognized(plug it into a rear usb port if using a desktop NO USB HUBS) Download the firmware file to your desktop on the computer

• Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60gp prob

Well, to start off with, I loved my mp3 player. So far, I ran into problems that I could not fix. I downloaded all of the updates that were needed. My mp3 player, a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60gb, suddenly would not work the same way. When the power adapter of battery are inserted, the player starts up. When they are pulled the player shuts down. One of the problems is when the player is on, it doesn't want to leave the main screen that says, "EAX". The hard dri've is not spinning, and no data is being accessed. I found on this website a page that tells users how to reset their mp3 player. For my mp3 player, it must be turned off for me to do a hard disk check, re-installation of operating system, or a format of the hard dri've...which is another problem, because I cannot turn it off. As I stated previously, the player is either on or off depending on if the battery is in or not. I am totally puzzeled. I cannot connect the player to the computer because of this problem. So either I have a new 60gb laptop hard dri've, or I figure out a way to get this to work. I haven't been able to find any threads like this or any users experiencing these problems.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
-Matt

Ok... I think I figured it out. I finally got into the recovery mode. I let the battery sit out of the mp3 player for a while, hoping that there is a capacitor that would run out of power. I put the battery back in and got into recovery mode. I ran disk clean up. Nothing changed. I had the same problem I first started off with. So I took the battery out again for an hour. Came back, and got back into recovery mode. I reinstalled the OS. Everything seems to be working fine.
I hope that anyone having a similar problem with this mp3 player can keep this in the back of their mind if they cannot get into recovery mode due to a boot up and shut down problem.

• Zen Extra harddisk prob

My Zen Extra will only go into rescue mode when turned on. If I then proceed to try a "Format All" or a "Reload OS" it says I have a harddisk problem. I have tried to "Clean Up" but it doesnt do anything, it just sits there in recovery mode. I have tried to reload my firmware, but with no result, as it takes longer than the life of the battery to load (it sits there with one bar filled, and doesnt change for hours) and It refuses to let me try it while plugged into the charger.
What should I do?

alright i just tried the newest version of the firmware for the umpteenth time and SURPRISE! it works. i dont have to reinstall it everytime the silly thing fails a transfer, but it still fails transfers after a few files. any ideas?

• Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra firmware prob

I tried to upgrade the firmware and now my Xtra is in Rescue Mode.
None of the updates that I downloaded from the website area all telling me that no device is detected.
But my computer recognizes my Xtra.
I tried downloading everything again but that didn't work.
Now my wife bought a Zen V with all different programs, but I don't know if that makes a difference.
What exactly am I doing wrong?

if the above solution doesn't work, i had a similar problem on the same model. if i remember, i just did different combinations of reboots, formatting, and firmware upgrades. it sounds unscientific, but i eventually got the computer to recognize the player and it worked until it got stolen (sad story). i know this isn't great advice, but in short: don't give up on it too easily. those things are surprisingly resiliant.

• Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra connection prob

I already tried searcing the forums, And I didn't come across anything like this, And anything I came across that was similar I did as was suggested and it didn't help. anyways, onto the problem...:
I'm using Windows XP by the way.
I just got a new Zen Xtra a few days ago because I had to return my first one because the harddri've crashed, so I took this one home, loaded my music onto it and it was fine. Today I went to load more music onto it and my computer started lagging really badly, I use Realplayer to put my music onto the player and when I clicked into it, It would freeze as it was starting and I'd have to kill the program.
Then I tried going into My Computer to go into the Nomad explorer, Except my computer took about 5 minutes to find itself, And then it only found 'Desktop' and 'My Computer' which, 'My Computer' had nothing in it. So I went into desktop and that fixed the problem with the harddri'ves showing up, Except once I get into Nomad Explorer it says my player isn't connected.
I (physically) disconnected and reconnected my player while in Nomad Exploer but it's still a no-go.
I cleaned up the disk on my player and rebooted it, I used a different cable and tried all my USB ports. What do you suggest I do?
I really need some help and if it doesn't get fixed I'm not getting another replacement, I'll have to get a different brand.Message Edited by spring90 on 08-07-2006 04:43 PM

• My Nomad Jukebox Zen Extra 60GB is not working anymore !

Hi,
I have this Mp3 player since laste april and it stopped working 2 days ago.
When I turn it on it says "rescue mode v.3 boot v.2, HW v0.0.
- clean up
2- format all
3-reload OS
4-reboot "
Unfortunately I cannot do anything , evrything is stuck.
Did that happen to one of you already ? And Do you know what to do ?
Please Help me!!!!!

You can try the advice here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net at your OWN RISK. If you don't want to try this or are under warranty then contact Creative Support.
If you aren't under warranty you can contact Creative Support to see if they will repair it. If you want to try repairing it yourself, taking the risk the hard disk is at fault, then you can follow Rudi Cheow's excellent guide. There's also a thread here at the Zen Nomadness.net forum on compatible dri'ves, and the last page of Rudi's guide also has information on this.

• Jukebox Zen Extra 40GB Firmware 2.10.03; Can't access files same wa

While I have read many postings on this forum over the past couple of weeks, this is my first posting. I just loaded the new firmware (2.0.03) on my player because I wanted to be able to drag-and-drop in Windows Explorer without using the Mediasource software. Unfortunate, the firmware does not allow me to search for my music as it did before the "upgrade." Now, if I search by genre it will list the genres but after choosing a specific genre my choices are now "Play", "Add to Playlist", "Open", "Find a Genre", or "Delete Genre." While before I had additional layers of search options including "View Artists" or "View Tracks" and I could search by genre, artist name, album title and song. Now, I have to search by genre and then I'm given a list of every single album I have of that genre. If there is no fix for this I'll have to return this unit. It would be a shame too because I only paid $30.00 for it at Fry's as a refurbished unit. It appears to be in new condition and the sound quality is excellent.
I just bought a 20GB Zen Touch for my son and we installed the latest firmware (2..0) on his unit and it can still access the music the way mine could before. I actually used his as a guinea pig and thought I would be safe. So much for that!
Is there anything that can be done so I don't have to search through my entire R&B collection to find a single artist or album?
I have one week left in my 30-day trial period before I have to make up my mind if I should return it or not. I'm using Windows Media Center 2005.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Pun

I've seen others where Windows Explorer won't work either, but not seen a direct solution unfortunately.
All I can suggest is the various advice here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.

Are you using a windows XP machine?
if so check to make sure that there are no traces of windows media player or windows media player runtime on the XP machine, go to control panel then add/remove programmes and lok for windows media player and windows media player runtime.
remove them, one at a time ( it will go through a rollback to winfdows media player 0) and re-start your p.c after removing each item.

• My Creative Jukebox Zen Extra is broken and needs to be fi

It has the infamous headphone jack problem and the scroll wheel does not work properly.
Now I cannot fix this problem myself. The only people who can are Creative Labs. My product is out of warranty. That means I have to pay them money to do so.
What I need to know is this: how much is it going to cost me to get it fixed, how long is it going to take and where do I send it to The address is in Dublin but I believe I need something called an RMA before I send it. How do I get this?
People on this site suggested I send an email to European Customer Support. The only link I could find was to the email service for products under warranty. I sent them an email and they didn't answer, presumably because my product is no longer under warranty.
So can someone please take the time to answer my questions. I would be very grateful as I do not want to continue going round in circles with this.

Richard,
When did you e-mail Customer Support, and which address did you use? Or did you use the form on the website?
Did you use the same e-mail address as the one in your profile? If you got an auto response back, then your e-mail will be in the queue and will get a reply. If you didn't get the auto response, double-check your spam filter in case the reply is there, otherwise it's possible your e-mail didn't arri've with us (you should always receive the auto-response).

Ensure that the Jukebox Zen is turned off. Hold down the Play/Pause button and insert a paper clip into the Reset hole on the Jukebox Zen. Remove the paper clip from the Reset hole. The Jukebox Zen will enter the Recovery (Rescue) Mode (release the play/pause button) and the following options will be displayed:
).Clean Up (Performs a disk scan on the players harddisk)
2).Format All (Formats the players harddisk - Note: all contents will be lost)
3).Reload OS (Reloads the Operating System on the Jukebox. Note: Reloading your OS, will not effect the contents of the files stored on your Jukebox Zen)
4).Reboot (Reboots the device).
