Jukebox Zen NX (30 gig model) inopera

The mp3 player I bought around 2 months ago is no longer working. The LCD screen won't display any letters or characters. Not even a little black line. The lights still work that illuminate the screen but nothing appears. Hoping for a certified repairer here in Melbourne (I sent an email off to support). I tried resetting the product several times to no joy. I'm navigating the menus off feel and guesswork and it's pretty annoying seeing as there's so much to go through.
Switch it on - Music Library - scroll down 3 clicks - trial and error to get the song I want.
any help would be appreciated,
thanks,
Nx05

Sounds like the LCD has failed, so you'll have to get it repaired by Creative.

  • Jukebox Zen Xtra 40 gig sound distort

I've had my mp3 player for about a year and haven't had any problems. But all of a sudden, the sound is weird and distorted. I've searched the forum and found very similar problems, but no solutions. Basically, you can hear the background music pretty well (although the volume is messed up), but foreground music and vocals are completely gone or completely distorted.
Same effect with all music, so it's not a problem with a particular mp3. And I tried different headphones -- same thing.
Some people have suggested, in response to similar problems, a firmware upgrade. So I'll try that. (Not hopeful though.) Any suggestions? This is seriously traumatizing. I've got 30 gigs of music on that thing.

Well, after reading the "headphone jack?" thread below, I think that's probably my problem, like so many other people. It seems like I was sold a defecti've product. And now I'm out of the warranty period. So that means, short of organizing a class action, there's nothing I can do, other than foot the bill for fixing a problem created by the company that sold me this product. There's something not right about that. Wish I could say I'm surprised. Goodbye, Creative.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra won't turn

My problem is exactly as the title states. I have a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra (40 gig HD) and I cannot get it to power on. This problem has been occuring since yesterday evening. I try to plug it into the computer via the USB cable, but this does nothing. The same is true of plugging it into a wall outlet with the charger that came with it. I can't tell you what the firmware on it is, as I have no ability to view that.
Any suggestions as to what I can try next?

I have (and left it out for fi've minutes, per another suggestion in another thread). Thanks to both of you for your help, I'm in contact with Creative's customer support via email now (thankfully it's within the 90 day warranty period)

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen NX Durability--W

I have a Nomad Jukebox Zen NX 20 Gig player and it has served me well. But heres a testimony to that claim that is unsurpassed in my mind--
I have a radio in my bathroom that i listen to when i'm getting ready, so i brought my player in with my radio transmitter and was planning on listening to some of my favorite tunes while showering. Well, I have a shelf above my toilet where my radio sits, and for some dumb reason I decided i'd lay my player on top of my radio and get in the shower. Well it was playing good as usual, then all of a sudden I heard a crash, and my Zen NX had fell into the toilet!! Totally submerged. I grabbed it and all kinds of water poured out of the thing. I had to remove the battery for it to turn off.... Well i immediately put it underneath a fan i had running in my bedroom. I left it there for one full day, and then the next day I powered it up and the **bleep** thing worked like nothing had happened!!!! And still is today 3 weeks later. Wow i was so surprised. I thought my my investment had literally went down the toilet. But happily it still works great. What a great product!
Thanks again for such a great product,
    J. Bevins

I think it's not uncommon to drop things in the toilet etc. if you are listening, and "doing the business", it can be easy to drop it (for the guys at least).
The key here is to make sure the player is off, remove any power source straight away. Then leave the player in a dry warm environment for as long as you can, ideally 3 to 5 days, if not more.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra stops working with XP following Windows Media Player 11 Beta Installat

Yesterday I was very pleased to find that my Creative Zen Xtra (model DAP-HD00) portable media player is a PlaysForSure capable device. Creative Labs, on November 9, 2005, released the Creative Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware v2.0.03. I installed this firmware (I had to install the Creative ZenJukebox Driver v.30.03 first to get Windows to recognize the device). Once the firmware was upgraded, Windows began recognizing the Zen Xtra as a MTP device and life was good. I was able to synchronize it with both Napster To Go and Windows Media Player 0.
After this, I went ahead and installed Windows Media Player Beta, which I just downloaded yesterday as well.
From a functional standpoint, WMP seems to run just fine. However, when I connected the Creative Zen Xtra (with its PlaysForSure firmware), Windows redetected the hardware. It first showed "Creative Jukebox Zen Xtra" in the tooltip, followed by "MTP Device" in the new hardware tooltip. Finally, Windows announced that there was a problem installing my new hardware and that it may not work properly.
Sure enough, when I went into Device Manager, my Zen Xtra was showing as an MTP Device with an exclamation point on it. More specifically, it specified the status of, "This device cannot start (Code 0)."
Prior to the installation of Windows Media Player, the Creative Zen Xtra showed in device manager with the following characteristics under the heading "Windows Portable Devices":
Name: NOMAD Jukebox Zen XtraDriver Version: 5.2.0.0 dated 8/30/2004Digitally Signed by Microsoft Windows Component Publisher
    Driver File Details:C:\Windows\system32\wpdusb.sys - v5.2.3802.3802 built by dnsrv(bld4act)
Windows Media Player changed this to the following (the device now shows up under "Portable Devices"):
Name: MTP DeviceDriver Version: 5.2.5326.4762 dated 2/22/2006Digitally Signed by Microsoft Windows Component Publisher
    Driver File Details:C:\Windows\system32\wpdusb.sys - v5.2.5358.4827 (WMP_.060509-2009)C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\wudfrd.sys - v6.0.5348.0(winmain(wmbla).0604-339)
The file wudfrd.sys is NOT digitally signed in this case.
As of now, my Zen Xtra is completely unusable on this system, and I need to sync it with my laptop for the time being, which still has WMP 0 installed on it.
Is this a bug with WMP beta? Is it a problem with my firmware? Since this is PlaysForSure compliant firmware, and it worked flawlessly with Napster and WMP 0 (before the MTP driver was updated), it would seem to be a WMP beta issue. I'd like to hear more official confirmation on the subject, however.
Some general details about my system are:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2Verified GENUINE Microsoft operating system using Genuine Advantage ValidationIntel Pentium 4 CPU 3.2 GHz, Hyper-Threaded processor2.00 GB RAM
Windows Media Player Version: .0.5358.4827Napster Version: 3.6.0.7 (US)
Any recommendations? Fixes? Some have suggested rolling back the WMP installation, but I would like to consider this option only as an absolute last resort.
    Best regards,Matt

Ok, this worked out accidentally - but happily
I first installed the driver - not the media source - but the driver for the device.
After that the windows device manager yellow sign disappeared - apparently the device driver was registered by windows.
Then I Installed Mediasource 5 - the installation went thru fine.
Does anyone have any recommended updates to install, please also advise what benefits.
    Thanks.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB not playing correctly anymore, help!!

Thanks. I keep getting directed to that knowledge base page, but it is not addressing my problem. My computer immediately tells me that the device has "malfunctioned" and the computer does not recognize it. I only have the usb cord that came with the zen, so I don't have another one to try. I love my zen and have staunchly defended it over the years vs. an i-pod. However, this is my 2nd onI've had my Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB for over 5+ years. It has worked great, with minimal problems. I had a firmware update issue quite a while back. I'm not sure how to resolve this problem. Here is the situation:
Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB is fully charged and ready to use.
I tried loading a set playlist but it won't load. So I tried another, and it doesn't load. Not sure what to do, I go to the menu. This time I choose an artist/band. The music loads, but it doesn't play. I try again, then it starts to play. So I load a few other artists that way. It seems like I had a issue to work out later. Being away from my computer that was going to have to wait. After some time the Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB started to start N stop diferent songs. A few times it froze while playing a song. Then would unfreeze to play another, then suddenly start playing the previous one. After about 0-5 minutes of this I decided I had enough. So I planned to empty the playlist, and turn it off. It took me atleast three attempts to empty the playlist and turn it off.
Are these problems fixable What are they hardware or software
Would an OS or firmware update fix these problems Is my Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB hard dri've going Can I get a replacement Or do I need to buy a new player
Please help me get my player working. I really like this model, I'd hate to have to replace it.
in 5 years. (The first one fried itself, but fortunately was still under warrantly.) Sadly, I, too, am considering moving on. I onlyreceived generic help fromthe Creative SupportTeam (who ultimately told me my zen is "unrepairable" when their one-size-fits-all solutions didn't work).Since there seems to be an overwhelming # of people experiencing similar problems, maybe the time is right to make the change, especially since an iPod classic 60 GB (7th Generation) is quite affordable these days.
    [/B]

Formatting will erase all the files on the player,Cleanup scans the disc & corrects file system errors, broken links (from when you delete things)ect. but does NOT repair bad sectors,Reboot then rebuilds the file system. I'd do the Cleanup>Reboot first to see if that solves the problem.here you will find how to open the player to see what dri've is in there. You can then search Ebay or Google the model number to find another one.

I've got a Jukebox Zen Xtra 60 GB and, having tried everything else, I'm fairly certain the power adapter has failed. I can't seem to find reference to the model I've got (Creative Switching Adapter TESA3-050500) so that I can get a replacement. Has this been superceded? And if so, which one do I need to get?

A quick search on Google came up with this, hope it hel

  • JUKEBOX ZEN XTRA SOFTW

    Hi,
I have a Jukebox Zen XTRA model MP3 player but am unable to find application software that would recognize it and would allow me to organize/upload songs. So far, I have unsuccessfully tried the "Creative MediaSource Software Update version 2.03.29" under the support section but please let me know if there is any other software available that could help.
    thanks in advance,

A word of warning while you are looking through all the software available...... Don't update the Firmware to the Plays-for-Sure version unless you have done a search on this forum first. Lots of people have had difficulty installing it and have bricked their Zen Xtra in the process. I still have the original .20.08 firmware and am extremely happy with it. My ZenXtra 30GB is still going strong and I use it for storing audiobooks and music. It is the old "Don't fix it if it ain't broke".
If your player already has had the "Plays-forSure" Firmware sucessfully installed, then I would say, lucky you.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen - music is trapped! HE

I've got a Nomad Jukebox Zen. This was one of the first ones I believe. version .00.04 (20GB model) Anyway, this mp3 player was buried in my closet for the last few years and I've since purchased a new player. I would like to get some of the music off the old player to transfer to my computer for the new player, but my computer won't recognize it. I don't have the original software and since it's an older model, Creative ain't talking. I've tried downloading the drivers that they have available but nothing works. Any suggestions on how to get my computer to just recognize it as basically an external hard drive

What P.C operating system are you using ( ie windows Vista/XP/me/98)

  • Creative jukebox zen usb2.0 sk

    Hi
I was wondering if anyone has come across anywhere selling skins similar to the ipod skin for the creative jukebox zen usb2.0.
I know this may be unlikely as it is an older model but worth a try. The leather type cover which comes with it it quite bulky and i've finally got fed up with it.

  • Zen Xtra 30 Gig Firmware Problems! H

Ive had my Zen Xtra 30 Gig For a While Now, it worked just fine today. I thought I would update the firmware on it, so I downloaded the New Firmware for it, and Followed the Directions. And now it wont work!
"Before installing the firmware update, be sure that you have:Charged the player's batteryConnected the power cableTurned off your playerDisconnected your player's USB cable from your computerTo install the firmware update, you must first remove the firmware in your player using the Reload OS function:Press and hold the Play button, while inserting a pin or paper clip into the Reset button on your player. The Reset button is near the Volume buttons. The player starts up in Rescue mode.Select the Reload OS option. The current firmware will be erased from the player.Connect your player to your computer with the USB cable.Double-click the firmware file, and follow the instructions on the screen. When prompted, click the Upgrade option. When the upgrade is complete, your player restarts.A "rebuilding the library" message appears on your player's LCD. This message disappears when your player has finished rebuilding the music library. The firmware is now updated."
Ive done the "relod OS opition" and mow my Computer wont recognize my Player. Ive done the clean up option, and even tried a differnt USB port on my computer and it still wont recognize it. Its basically stuck in "rescue Mode". What Should I do? Ive got around 6 or 7 Gigs of Music on it so I dont really want to format it, But will a Format do the Trick for me?

I'm unsure what your problem is. Is it that your PC won't recognise your Zen Xtra when you plug in the USB cable? I had this problem and had to reinstall the device drivers here

  • No driver found - Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra - WinXP

I have used my Zen Xtra for over 2 years now, with the same PC I am currently having problems with. I recently had to do a complete reinstall of Windows (note that I have done at least 2 other complete reinstalls during the life of my Zen Xtra, with no problems). Windows Device Managers sees the NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra, but with the yellow question mark and exclamation point. Each attempt at driver installation results in the same problem. The driver ("JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US__30_03.EXE") installs completely, I'm told to reconnect my device so the driver can take effect. When I do, the device is still marked in Device Manager with exclamation point and yellow question mark, and Windows continues to ask if it can find and install the driver. I have told it not to (knowing that I just installed Creative's own driver), with no success, and other times let Windows try to install the driver (hoping it would find the Creative driver that was just installed). No luck. I have even done another complete reinstall of Windows, and tried to install the driver before any other program or hardware installations into my system. No luck. Note that there are no hardware changes between now and when I have done other complete Windows reinstallations. It just no longer accepts the Creative driver. I have also tried to install the driver in safe mode, with the same results. I have also completely removed the Zen Xtra (showing hidden devices in the Device Manager), and tried to reinstall. Firmware version of Zen Xtra was upgraded over a year ago to 2.0.03.
    Specifics:
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    38GB free hard dri've space
    Zen Xtra firmware version: 2.0.03

I have the same problem. But when i try to installl it it says he is missing an .nfo file.
I removed WMP and reinstalled WM0 because is crap.
    I have Windows XP SP2
I have the newst firmware on it.
Can somebody help me with this because it's annoying not to put any new music on your mp3 player.
I never experienced this before even after formatting my HD.
Almost the same problem as fritzm but not completely because het gets an different error.
I have installed the CD but that doesnt work either.
I have installed the software from the website but that didnt help because he doesnt recognize my player.
    Please help!!

  • Threads on windows xp & jukebox zen driver installation and no resu

I didn't know Creative didn't know how to solve the driver problem with windows xp. Because if they did there would be a simple solution instead of alot of run around on try this and that. There are so many people on this board with the same problem that I have and none of them got a straight answer on " Here this is what you do," Bam! that should be it. Obviously its a lousy software that doesn't really work. So if someone can tell me how to install a driver or make windows xp recognize my jukebox zen so I can transfer some music to the **bleep** thing I would really greatly appreciate it. We all shouldn't have to be geniuses to use this software.

    Try getting the latest drivers

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60 GB can't be found through Mediasource Organizer

I have been using the Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra HDD Player since a few years and I have always been satisfied. But recently, I had a massi've computer problem, forcing me to do a complete re-install of Windows XP, without the chance to backup my old XP.
So of course I also needed to reinstall the Nomad Player. However, since I can't find the CD-Rom with the driver, I had to download (almost) everything.
At first I installed the drivers of the player and then I installed the Nomad Explorer (I still had that one on an old HDD). When I start the Nomad Explorer, the player connects and I can see the music that is stored on the player.
However, in the past I never used the Nomad Explorer, I always used Media Source Organizer. I think in the past I had Version 3 and later I updated it to Version 5. So now I went for Version instantly. I downloaded it and installed it. But here it starts to get strange. I closed the Nomad Explorer and disconnected the player, then I installed the Organizer. During the installation, I was told that the organizer can't find any supported devices, I should connect and start the player and try again. So I did. This time, the installation finished itself - but when I startet Media Organizer, it couldn't find my player.
I once read something like that you need at least Windows Media Player 0 or . Since I had 9, I installed 0, but that didn't change a thing.
So, does anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong ? Or maybe I forgot to install some normal Windows stuff, that is required by Media Organizer ? For example, I haven't installed DirectX yet (but I tell you that just as an example, I don't think that it's DirectX related)

  • NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra 30gb dri

    Hiya,
Sorry if its been asked before, but I installed a new Windows Vista 64bit about a month ago and since then I've searched all over the net trying to find a working driver that will allow me to transfer all of my music that I've collected over the years from my NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra30gb to my PC.
It worked fine with XP, but I need a 64bit driver for the USB connector.
Does anyone know where I can download a working driver?
    Any help would be great!
    Thanks

Does your player have the Plays For Sure Firmware http://support.creative.com/Products...me=MP3+Players If it doesn't do you still have access to a computer with XP
