July 2014 Blu-Ray Authoring Software comparable to DVD Studio Pro

Well, there have been a number of threads related to this question. The biggest problem with ALL of those threads is they get high jacked with people OPINIONS about the need to author Blu-Ray. SO let me start by saying if you intend to replay with "just use a dvd" or "no one uses blu-ray make downloadable content" or whatever your personal opinion is as to why I shouldn't need to author custom Blu-Rays like I could with DVD Studio Pro (DVDSP),  Don't bother posting in this thread. I have a legitimate need with a focused purpose and currently have not found a tool that allows me to do what I need for my business. Although I am getting by with available tools, I am not happy with the product I am giving to customers.
What I would like to find is a blu-ray authoring tool that allows from more than a basic menu and play function. In particular I need my blu-ray to play a short video before showing the menu. In DVDSP, this can be done very easily, but obviously its not HD.
If you know of a current tool, ideally MAC compatible but I am open to a good PC tool. That allows for blue-ray authoring beyond very basic menus like please share it.
Current Software I have tried that don't fit the bill:
Roxio Toast 11 :  only allows for very basic menus
FCPX: Again only basic menu.
Compressor: Even Less...
I don't mind spending a a bit on a known good tool, but I don't really want to spend 3000$ to do this simple task either.
Thanks so much for anyone that shares useful information!

I believe Encore is the best option after all my research. It is available once you subscribe to the new Adobe Creative Cloud.
I will say one thing that has worked for me as a blu-ray alternative, is to export the videos into a AppleTV/ iPhone / iPad compatible format (MPEG-4  .m4v) from FinalCut or QuickTime. The format is also windows compatible so it works regardless of the customers computer preference. A number of dvd / blu-ray players also support the m4v format.
I do wish that there was a good Blu-Ray authoring tool for MAC outside of Encore but at least Encore exist for the time being. I do find it interesting that Adobe also chose not to offer an authoring tool in their latest creative suite. If you can afford the 3k the Sony tool is pretty amazing FYI, even though its only PC.

  • Decent blu-ray authoring software - any suggestions?

    Hi
I recently moved from PC to MAC and changed from Adobe to Final Cut Pro. I have no problems with authoring to DVD but I am struggling to see how I am going to do decent blu-ray authoring on MAC. Reason being is I have a number of clients that want both DVD and Blu-ray and I like to create interesting menus with background music. I am relatively happy with iDVD and DVD SP (which of course are not blu-ray compatible so no good to me) and I have just purchased Toast Titanium Pro and discovered you can not add music to the menu or do much else so it feels like a waste of money - any suggestions for good alternatives would be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Blue Ray Disk drive compatibility with DVD S Pro, Mac Pro

Ok, I'll make this an official question, where might I find info on BDR drive compatibility with DVD S Pro, Mac Pro, etc? I'm a little surprised that there doesn't seem to be much info available.
I can always use my Pioneer BDR-202 with a windows box, I have several, but I'm trying to get AWAY from them.
Any thoughts, links, etc. welcome, thanks
    Les

Blu-ray offers a level of interacivity that is not possible with DVDs, so it isn't just an different drive that you are getting with Blu-ray. Seeing how Apple didn't upgrade DVD SP with the new FCP Suite 2, it is reasonable to assume they are working on a separate Blu-Ray Studio Pro, that is going to be completely different than DVD SP. Adobe Encore's support for Blu-Ray is extremely buggy, so obviously moving from DVD programming to Blu-Ray programming isn't just a simple tweak to the code.
Apple doesn't pre-announce software they are working on so this is all guess work, but it is reasonable to assume that they are working on a Blu-Ray programming application. Be patient. Do you really have the money to burn on the bleeding edge of new technology? A single Blu-Ray burnable disc sells for $20. Two months ago the exact same disc sold for $45. Prices will continue to fall as things stablize.

  • DVD Studio Pro & Blu ray

    Hello
I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm looking to start burning BluRay projects, have a burner although after doing a lot of forum searches etc i see DVD studio pro won't burn to blu ray discs. They have HD DVD burning but i'm guessing that's not blu ray. I'm guessing DVD studio pro will never be blu ray compatible or has someone found a way to burn to blu ray? I need to author menus so compressor isn't really an option for me but i haven't a clue what would be a good alternative software. Is there one which has buttons etc like DVD studio pro?
    Many thanks
    Kaylee

DVD SP was discontinued by Apple over two years ago; there is, unfortunately, no chance that it will ever support Blu-Ray.
One affoordable option for authoring Blu-Ray on the Mac is Roxio's Toast Titanium.
Another, higher end alternative is Adobe Encore.
    Good luck.

  • Encore CS4 won't go into Blu-ray authoring mode

CS4 running on an HP Z800 with a Windows 7 operating system. I am trying to author my first Blu-ray project. The encode from the timeline went fine. When going into Encore, however, trouble starts. After filling in the new project screen (title, Blu-ray, 1280 x 720, MPEG-2, 59.94 fps) the project window opens up. Everything in the project window is still set for a SD DVD. I change the burner selection to the Blu-ray burner, and then select the Blu-ray option. At that point the little circular blue indicator starts rotating...and continues to do so. I've let it go for as long as five minutes and nothing changes. Then I go into the Task Manager and the entire computer seizes up, causing me to have to shut down manually. What is going on and why won't Encore go into the Blu-ray authoring mode?
    Thanks.
    Spencer

    Ramesh!
Thank you so much...it worked! After installing the pxhelp engine the Blu-ray function within Encore came up and appears to be functional. One more question for you, if you don't mind. As I said in my original post, the program was encoded for Blu-ray directly from the timeline using the Adobe Media Encoder. The resulting file came in at just about 16GB. Once I brought that file into Encore as a timeline, though, it was only 7GB and it was listed as "Untranscoded." Shouldn't an encoded file for Blu-ray function just like an encoded file for a DVD? If not, did I miss a step? Does it have anything to do with the pxhelp file, since the program was encoded before that file was downloaded? Any assistance you can provide here will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Is there any Blu-ray Player Software compatible with my iMac OS X Mountain Lion?

I want to watch a Blu-ray Movie on my iMac(OS X Mountain Lion), so I need a best Blu-ray Player Software.

You need third party software, Macgo Blu-ray Player can deal with the work you mentioned. As for the Mac Moutain Lion(10.8), I check their website and it is said that the Mac OS 10.8 are supported.

  • Blu ray Authoring

    Hi,
I have a production company in Brazil, and we use Final Cut Studio 7.
Do you know when Apple will launch the new version of DVD Studio Pro for Blu_Ray authoring?
    Thanks,

I installed a Blu Ray burner in my Mac Pro with the intent to burn my HDV video (1080i60i) on to blu Ray disks using DVD Studio Pro 4 . I can build & format to hard drive but it will not burn to blu ray media. I can pull the HVDVD_TS folder into Toast (bd plugin) and it burns but drops the DVD4 menus. After reading some of these posts I guess am to understand that DVD 4 will not author Blu Ray Disks. Is there an alternative method to accomplish this or must I use Toasts limited menus?

  • Blu Ray:Eventual File Format Compatibility for DVD Studio Pro?  Time Frame?

    Hello There,
A couple of questions for those of you who might be in the loop regarding Blu Ray authoring development plans for DVDSP:
    1. A time frame?
    2. When Blu Ray authoring is possible with DVDSP, does anyone know what video file formats DVDSP will accept? Will it be MPEG HD? Will it be H.264? Or will it be both? Might it be neither?
I'm trying to make some hardware decisions for encoding, so if anyone has the inside skinny on answers to these questions, fantastic.
    Thanks,
    sb

    TOU?
Term of Use of the Boards
When I said I'm evaluating equipment, I wasn't referring to a workstation, but a real time encoding card that I'm purchasing for additional reasons. If I knew which Blu-ray codec(s) Apple would commit to for DVDSP, (H.264 and/or HD MPEG-2), is would help to ease my decision.
You should probably look more towards whether (a) the card will be Mac compatible in general (if you are looking for one for the Mac and (b) whether the card supports all the formats which are supported by blu-ray. The reason being, though one would assume that any software to make blu-ray discs would support all proper encodes, it may not be the case. Doubtful, but you never know.
Adobe Encore and Avid have been supporting Blu-ray since last fall. It makes me think that Apple really isn't "in it to win it" insofar as professional DVD Authoring is concerned, which is too bad because I've made an initial commitment to DVDSP for a rather labor intensive workflow.
No comment But the issue has been discussed before. Apple will do what Apple thinks is proper. If they do blu-ray (again not thoughts as to where they are now) I am sure it will be done right. blu-ray and HD are new still and you can see players are not even 100%. The Blue Planet, an HD DVD, had issues on players. And blu-ray has some of the same issues. In other words if people with alot of resource$ are having an issue because the area is still a bit of the wild west...

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 (a stand alone product)?  Need advice purchasing BD authoring software

According to Wiki, DVD STUDIO PRO-4 came with the "creative suite" that was discontinued by Apple in 2006.
In 2003-2005 I used DVD Studio Pro-2.  That was THEN.
Now I have now an overkill PowerMac G5, FCPX, and Compressor-4.   My question is what software can I purchase that will burn BLU-RAY disks and give me some menues like DVD Studio Pro?
    Thanks
    -Dale

Okay, I remember the days back in 2003 when using FCP4, DVD Studio2, and Compressor2 there was lots of hoopla about creating great videos -- then (at that time) Apple had no respectable DVD player software -- now (Lion) has DVD player.
In like manner, we have all this hoopla about FCPX, Compressor4, Motion5 --- and no Blu-Ray (BD) authoring software.   If Apple is worth its salt and has their marketing folks read these forums, seems like SOMEBODY would finally GET IT.   This is like building a Rolls Royce without a muffler.
Well, I've answered my own question.   I purchased TOAST-11 to read MTS files to discover it also authors BD.  By clicking "create BD disk" you'll be prompted to purchase & download a $20 plugin.   Does a GREAT job with menus.  Just drag your video & audio files (from compressor) and that's it.
BTY- all the "stink" around FCPX about not being able to import MTS files from disk (this is like building a Ferrari without a gas tank).  Tom W gave a great suggestion to use a product called CLIPWRAP ($50).  So I bought it (converts MTS to MOV without data loss).

  • Blu-ray discs and a HD dvd build

I have read in other posts that it does not appear that a HD DVD(as opposed to SD DVD in the DVD studio pro settings) program can be burned onto a Blu-ray for TV viewing. First of all if anyone knows that this has changed please speak up. Otherwise my question is is the HVDVD_TS folder that DVDSP creates for a HD program a compatible folder with Blu-ray players(or HDDVD players for that matter). Assuming one can eventually burn a video program onto a Blu-ray can the Blu-ray players read the HVDVD_TS the same way that the Apple DVDPlayer does or set top DVD players read the VIDEO_TS folder.
Also does anyone know if the Blu-ray players can read a BD-R at all.

There are other Win options too but as Adobe are adding Blu-ray support I'm pretty sure at NAB next month Apple will add support too... Plus if you look here:
    http://www.nab.org/nabshow/Conferences/sessiondetail.asp?id=1205649
It says tools for Next Gen authoring on Mac & Win... so lets hope dvdsp has a nice update and a solid SD Update. I'd like separate tools as always but we'll see what NAB brings.
Remember Premiere & Co. are Mac again so I'm sure Apple has some FCS sh*t for their a$$ to launch in April we may even get new macs with internal blu-ray burners if we are good boys and girls...

  • Difficult to create a disc blue ray with DVD studio pro

I have created a movie with final cut studio 7 ,
output quick time . DVD creation with menus is going very well but when I want to format and burn , I get a file on disk HVDVD_TS and not a movie on the disc to see on the TV.
Also, I downloaded the new version of Compressor 4. However , completing the film on Final Cut Pro 7, I can not send the movie to Compressor. If I put the movie in Quick Time to Compressor, the  system runs forever and I can not get anything better in the end.
At the end , I used Toast and then I get a result. Except that I connected a LG blueray burner on my macbook pro 17 ' and I do not see it on the desktop. It is grayed out in the left column of the Finder. Howewer, it burns. But I can not read the burned discs on the MacBook .
    The HD is complicated !
I may it was better  to go to Final Cut X ?

This comes up a lot because of the HD DVD option in DVDSP. It's not Blu-Ray. HD DVD is a dead format and shouldn't be used. To be clear, there is no Blu Ray authorring capability in DVDSP.
There is limited Blu-Ray capability by creating BD disks directly from either FCP or Compressor, You can also use the properly-encoded output files in Toast. How well your LG drive works with Mac's is another story.
FCP X won't give you anything better for what you're tring to do.
    Good luck.

  • DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1 and Blu Ray

If I buy an external Blu Ray burner can I burn Blu Ray wedding videos from DVD Studio Pro or do I have to use Toast 9/10?

I want to stick with FCS but need the blue ray option.< </div>
We just don't have a solid grasp of complex BD production around here because this is the Final Cut forum. We've got some dabblers who, you've seen, have contradictory suggestions and their ability to asssit you is limited by their experience and your needs. If you're patient enough, some experts will drop by. But I wouldn't count on it.
If you need sophisticated BD output, you want to hire a BD shop. The economics might not appear to be rational until you evaluate what you will pay yourself to learn a new programming/authoring tool and buy a BD burner.
"Not being to go out for replication" implies the file structure from Encore or Toast is not compatible with the needs of the big duplication houses. You'd want to work with them carefully if you need their services.

  • DVD Studio Pro does BLU RAY? How?

so... i'm using Final Cut Studio 2.
I have an edited footage in FCPRO in this format: XDCAM EX 1080p30
What are the settings in Compressor that i have to use to export my HD project
to make a BLU RAY disc in DVD Studio Pro?
If you don't want to answer me... please give a link to a tutorial or something on this matter...
    thanks people!

You can make SDs from HD footage, you can burn HD DVD (sort of) to play on the now defunct HD DVD Player and you can also make hobbled blu-ray discs with the new Final Cut Studio 3. Hobbled meaning not full blown authoring of all the bells & whistles of blu-ray, but basic menu and video stream.
http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/whats-new.html (The Final Cut Studio 3 upgrade is $299 in the U.S.)
http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs/ (blu-ray burner needed if you want to burn blu-ray)
Toast also offers limited blu-ray authoring and so does Adobe Encore (a bit more)

DVD Studio pro 4 no longer builds a DVD that will play in any player, is there an update or a comparable software available? Or are there some internal fixes that I have not found.  Preferences that will allow a clean product to be delivered?

Thank you for your prompt reply.  I first import all my assets, build my DVD, which may include one or more menus, pictures, music, etc. I use the simulator to test all aspects of video before burning.  Making sure that the end jump works, if I add chapters, going to each chapter making sure buttons and end jumps for the chapters work.  When I am satisfied I then go to burn/format function and delete or reuse any folders that the computer advises.  The resolution is SD, display mode 16.9, Lossless linking, red laser, single, one side 12 cm.  Thats about it.  Haven't had a problem in the past just wondering what I could be doing wrong now. I am workingo on an imac, MAC OS X, 10.7.4, 2.93 GHz, Intel Core 17, Memory 8GB, 133mHz,DDR3.
Response I get is, unknown disc, please check disc again."
