I have been playing whole movies before from VLC without problems.
    Any Ideas?

  • How to make jump menus all the same length?

I have a series of jump menus. Some listings in the jump menu

By length, do you mean width?

  • How to make jump menus on IWEB

I went to someones IWEB page and they had jump menus on their links. I went to the link and all these different links scrolled down. How do I make those on my site?

My navigation bar dropmenu is customised from here:
    http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex1/dropmenuindex.htm
My jumpmenu code I got from a site where you just put your menu options in and it generated the code for you. I've altered the code for various areas of my site. I'm trying to find the link again, but here's one you can try:
    http://www.quackit.com/javascript/javascriptdropdownmenu.cfm
Anyway if you look at the source of my pages, you will see the jumpmenu code and the dropmenu code.

  • Help! New windows, jump menus and maximizing

Hello all. I am new to Dreamweaver, and I have been having
trouble with some things that should be easy.
    1) How can I force a new window to maximize to the screen
    size?
    2) I am using a Jump Menu, and what I want to do is open a
new window from the jump menu on top of the original window. I want
the new window to open separately and the back button to be
disabled. I want to do this because when I go to a new window from
an original one, then press the back button, the original page is
    not refreshed.
Can someone PLEASE help me with these two items? Is there any
scripting you can share that I can insert or anything else you
    know?
    Thanks so much!

The jump menus are just a <select> form element with a
    bit of javascript
applied. It will work just fine with your templates. And,
    yes, you could
safely use SSI as well to save yourself the hassle of
    uploading the changed
child pages. Most of DWs javascript can be safely relegated
    to an external
js file that you include in the page.
The pop-up menus are a nightmare - don't ever consider their
    behavior when
thinking about other DW features. ;)

  • Jump Menus that work in IE

    Greetings,
I just upgraded to DW 8. One reason was my hope that it would
be easier to create Jump Menus that don't set off the little
'warning bar' at the top of IE6. Many of our users get confused by
this warning, and refuse to proceed further.
So, how do I create a Jump Menu that doesn't throw this
error? If I need to use JavaScript or whatever, that's fine, just
as long as I can get around this problem.
    Thanks!

  • Need help with jump menus

I'm 53 and electronically challenged.  I am an artist and am re-doing my extremely simple/basic website, and would like to add jump menus. However, when I try to insert the Form Object...Jump Menu, the dialog box tries to open, but then I receive an error message "When executing...a JavaScript error occurred."  After  I hit OK, everything freezes up, and I have to hit the Ctl/Alt/Delete to get out of the program.  I have been trying to find instructions; I went to File/Debug, but I receive a message saying the document cannot be debugged because it contains no JavaScript. Honestly,  I don't even know what that is.  Perhaps I'm trying for something too complicated...I really just want to add those drop-down menus which every other website seems to have.  Navigating my site has become too complicated, and I would like to simplify the process.  If anyone responds to this (my first forum message, ever), please use baby-computer language.  Thank you very much.

Thank you for the referral.  After reading and answering the first response, I was led to another question/answer about JavaScript and did go to the troubleshooting page (where I've been since writing).  Not that I understand 1/10th of what it said, but on my computer I wound up here:
    ...\DreamweaverUltradev\Conf\Objects\Forms
It wasn't the same path as the article said (at least not on my computer), but I looked at all the "icons" and discovered that everything had at least 2 icons (Image Field has 3), but the Form Insert only had one icon, which looks to me like a dollar sign inside a box.  Everything else either has what looks like an Internet Explorer symbol, or a page with a broken corner (Dreamweaver icon?).  Anyway, I keep reading suggestions about reloading the program, so I guess I'll do that, unless someone can make an easier suggestion (I am terribly inept and for some reason have difficulty loading programs).
    Thanks.

  • IT Guy wants to jump in to the Mac world

I have been in the IT field for over ten years now and currently hold the position of Network Manager at the company where I work.  Although I have had five iPods and three iPhones over the course of my life, I have never owned or used a Mac computer, not because I have anything against them, just that I've always used and supported PCs. I recently saw and fell in love with the new retina display Mac Books and thought that maybe now was a good time to jump in to the Mac world.  Since funds are limited at home I thought I'd see about replacing my PC at work with a new Mac. My main concern besides having to get used to a new OS is that I won't be able to use the necessary tools to do my job in the Windows world where I work. We are in a Windows 2008 R2 domain and use Exchange Server 2010 for e-mail and I have to manage and administer this environment on a daily basis. I have read that going with either Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion was the way to go if you want to just virtualize Windows 7 on your Mac but I am wondering if that's the only way to use the domain admin tools that I require. Are there any such tools available for the Mac or am I just going to have to run everything in the VM?  I am also wondering if there are any other hurdles that I should be aware of when using a Mac in a Windows environment.
Thanks in advance for your input.
    -Chris

If they will let you, sure, go for it.  But it just seems to me there is a big difference between an end user using an Apple device on a Windows-based network domain, and an admin having to administer that network/domains windows hardware.
One thing you can do, if funds allow, is set up a second monitor with your Mac.  You can keep the Windows VM running in one and have the other as your OS X desktop, instead of switching back and forth between them.  I used to do that with my Mac Pro at my previous job (I only needed windows to occasionally trouble shoot a user's issue with Windows-only software applications, or to test open source apps to write documentation for them).
Also, if going the VM route, do not skimp on RAM.  OS X 10.8 is okay with 4GB (but for many uses, more would be better), plus you will have the overhead of the VM, and then Windows itself will need RAM for itself.  These days, I would say if running both systems all the time, 8GB would be the minimum I'd want, and I would prefer 12-16GB (but that is based on the kind of use I see - bioinformatics and data analyses), so I could have a 6-8GB Windows 64-bit installation.
A 16GB iMac with an external monitor would make a good such machine at a reasonable price point, to my mind - add another 25-27" monitor and you would have a nice dual mode setup.
However, at my current place of employment, I don't get the option of picking my own hardware - I miss that freedom.

  • Jump menus

Is there a way to dynamically fill a jump menu with data from a recordset?  Then display that data on the same page.  Using PHP/MySQL for the database.  Just looking for a clean single page review of each individual client's data in a client record set.

  • Advice making the jump from pc to mac - video card?

    Hi,
I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post but I've been having trouble finding an appropriate place to ask some questions.
I'm thinking about making the jump to a mac after many years of having pc's because I'm starting to get fed up with tinkering and want something that just works. I want to do mainly office stuff; use for photography and play a few games. Unfortunately warhammer online isn't supported but I see that there are alternative ways - not a deal breaker. I've been WOW sober now for 150 days.
When trying to compare systems I'm finding a few sticking points. I think what I want is a mac pro as I want to use my existing dell 24" lcd and upgrade to an eizo (for photography) at a later stage. There are things that I'm finding a little odd :
    1. 1TB HDD is $450 AUD whereas I can just pick one up locally for almost half of that price. Can I order one without and then just put my own in? Is this ever done?
    2. and what's the deal with the memory price?
    3. and why are the video cards 1-2 generations behind the pc?
I'm not saying the system is overpriced - if I configure an xps system or alienware system the prices just get absurd.
    Any comments appreciated.

Mac pro or Macbook pro? Big difference! If you want a laptop with gaming capability then you are pretty much into the Macbook pro, as graphics on the Macbook won't handle high intensity gaming. However, for MS Office and iPhoto, any mac will do. You could, for example, buy a macbook 13" and use your 24" monitor with that...or the MBP or the Mac Pro.
With the Mac Pro, you can add any compatible HD with ease. A HD is user installable on a Macbook, but it is absolutely NOT with a macbook pro. That should not stop you from going to an apple authorized repair center and having THEM do the install. If any other provider does the install and there is a problem, the warranty could be voided. Most folks buy aftermarket RAM and install themselves. It is easy.
Don't know anything about video cards.

  • On a Mac, can you navigate menus with one handed key strokes like Windows?

On a Mac, is there anyway to navigate menus with one handed keyboard strokes like you can in Windows? My girlfriend is a graphic designer and switched from Windows to Mac. She misses being able to use the Alt key and make menu selections. On Windows she can press "Alt" and then move through menus and submenus with one hand on the keyboard. When you press "Alt" the first letter of every menu is highlighted. When she presses a certain letter the menu drops down, and the first letter of every submenu is then highlighted. She can then navigate through all the submenus until she hits the selection she wants, all using the left hand on the keyboard. It's very fast and efficient. Can you do something similar to this on a Mac?
The reason she wants to do this is because when she is in Photoshop, she likes to use her right hand on the mouse with the cursor inside the canvas (sketching, moving layers around) while she makes menu commands with the left hand. It is 10 times faster this way than using the mouse for everything. Hot keys are not the same because you must have those memorized. With the "Alt" key function, you can open a drop down menu, see the choices, and make your selection.
I have been a Mac person my whole life, and I have to say, it's a pretty awesome function. I really want the Mac to have something similar.

    Barney-15E wrote:
[Actual studies|http://www.asktog.com/TOI/toi06KeyboardVMouse1.html] have found it is faster to use the mouse to make command activations than using keyboard shortcuts.
The 20-year-old argument on that web page isn't very convincing. Keyboard shortcuts are certainly faster for experience power users who do the same thing every day. The mouse is faster only for new users or users doing non-repetitive commands every day.
It is interesting that one of the posts on that page said this:
I remember one mainframe company in the sixties that came up with the following command-key guidelines:
Use the first letter of the command word
If the first letter is already used, use the last letter
If the last letter is already used, use the second letter
If the second letter is already used, use the second-to-the-last letter
    etc.
This is actually very similar to how the keyboard-driven menus work in Mac OS X. The advantage over the Windows method is that when there is more than one command in a menu that shares the same first letter, you do not have to memorize which command uses which letter. You just type ahead until the correct command is selected.
I would, however, encourage Derek Doublin1's girlfriend to learn the direct keyboard shortcuts in Photoshop. On Mac or PC, for me pressing Command-Option-I is much faster than either the mouse or using the keyboard to drop the Image menu and walk down to the Image Size command.

  • DW CS4 Help with jump menu opening a new window.

First, I can't believe that Adobe left out an easy to use behavior to do this.
I have some jump menus, and I would like the selection to open up a new window and have the content appear there.  I saw a couple of old topics here that offered some suggestions, but they didn't work for me.  I could get it to open a new window, but the content was not there.  I saw where you need to add a "GO" button, and add a "Open New Window"behavior to it.  That is what opened the new window with new content.  I do not have the "GO" buttons on the jump menus in this code, but did try it and it didn't work.   If anyone can help and tell me how to do it, and where to place the code, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm confused by your post and code.  Adobe has a function to do this.  In the Insert Toolbar under the Tab "Forms" there is an option to create a jump menu.  The only options that menu gives you is the same window or a frame on the page (a very outdated action looking at it now).  But with basic knowledge of links you insert the menu and you will get code like:
      <select name="jumpMenu" id="jumpMenu" onChange="MM_jumpMenu('parent',this,0)">
The "parent" denotes that this will open in the same window.  If you change that to "blank" then it will open in a new window.  A "Go" button is optional and also available in the DW GUI when you set up a jump menu.
