Jump / Skipping Problem

I wonder if anyone could help me. I have a 4GB Nano which I purchased about 18 months ago. Everything has been fine until recently. Sometimes when I listen to a track, the iPod starts skipping/jumping. It doesn't skip tracks and it doesn't jump to the next track either. It simply jumps/skips within the track that is playing at the time. The tracks will start to play and then suddenly it will jump to a random point in the song. The jumping/skippig continues until I press stop or until I skip to the next track. Has anyone else experienced this before and what should I do? Should I reset/restore the iPod?
Many thanks.

Hey my ipod Nano is doing almost the same thing. I also have a 4gb that is also skipping but it skips numerous songs all at once, and doen't even play the selection at all. It will just keep skipping till it does play a song..... I Konw how you feel.. I hope we can get this problem fixed. Just to let ya know I have tried to restar my nano but it still doesn't work for me.. If you need to know how to reset ur ipod:
1. slide the Hold switch to HOLD and then back to OFF HOld
2. Then Press the Menue & Center Button at the same time until the Apple Logo appers...
I hope this was helpful in some way..If not I'm truly sorry. Good Luck.

My ipod jumps, skips and slows down while playing songs. It is very annoying. Is it fixable??????

I have the same problem. Often, the songs worked perfectly fine before, even the previous day! Changing the format does not help either, nor does restoring iPod settings. In another case, a song WILL work after settings are restored, but after a few plays will return to its old state of making the ipod reset.

  • Skipping problems on Satellite M645-S4050

    Hello,
I have a Satellite M645-S4050 and I I bought it in July of this year.
I've noticed that if there is something playing on my computer, whether music (on itunes) or a video, and the laptop is moved (even if the desk it's sitting on is bumped slightly or I put my elbow down too hard) it skips like the old walkmen used to. Once or twice it has even gotten stuck like a phonograph. I brought it in to where I bought it and the guy said that it was the way the new software was made in a lot of the faster hard drives and the only way to do anything would be to buy a more compact hard drive and transfer everything.
But I notice it getting worse and I am disinclined to believe him because the point of a laptop is to have a modile computer. I cannot even listen to music or play minesweeper in the car because the skipping is so bad it messes with how the computer functions. Is this true and is there anything I can do to fix it?
    Thanks,
    na

    Hi na,
I agree with as*** and if you have HDD protection utility, you should be able to reproduce this issue: Just move your notebook a little bit. You should notice this skipping problem again.
As far as I know in options of this tool, you can change the sensitivity. Choose a lower value, maybe it helps! :)

  • Quantum TV skipping problem fixed

Over the last few days the skipping problem seems to be resolved. At least it seems that Verizon listens to the customers unlike Comcast.

Wish I could agree. It was terrible last night while watching hockey on NESN on our Quantum box. Was doing the stutter-step about every five minutes. Tried reboot during one of the breaks between periods to no avail. I should have tried watching the recording instead of live but didn't think of it at the time.

  • Nano skipping problem solved? (songs skipping while playing)

Well, not "solved" per se, but there does seem to be some concensus on the cause of these skips...
True, the nano is solid-state storage, and will not skip due to the same root causes that hard drive models might skip.
HOWEVER, that does not mean that the nano does not skip due to other reasons.
People on this forum, as well as members of iLounge have reported skipping problems. Concensus is that it is the nano's incompatibility with LAME encoded MP3s (some say that it's only VBR, yet some say it is also with CBR tracks).
The symptoms are tracks that skip on the nano, but play perfectly fine in iTunes (or any other player for that matter). I've heard that the mini also has this problem, but I cannot confirm... I can confirm that it happens often on my nano...
I have a very large collection of LAME encoded MP3s, so re-encoding is not a reasonable option...
If you are experiencing these issues, please report them to Apple... We need a firmware fix for this...
Question: Does anyone know if Apple is already aware of this issue, and plans to fix it in the next firmware update?

If it's skipping in iTunes and your iPod, then it is likely you have a bad file...
While there is probably a way of knowing what encoder was used to encode a file, I don't know that off hand...
I know my files are all LAME encoded because I ripped them using LAME...

  • ITunes skipping problem - another user

This post is to let Apple know there is another user having an issue. I installed v7 and had a severe skipping problem but no lost music. I installed v7.0.1 and it reduced the issue but did not fix it. I have tried the recommendations from Apple (no plug ins, changed QuickTime sound out rate, increased volume, turned off sound enhancer, updated DirectX, updated sound card driver) to no avail.
I always install with anti-virus turned off and I am the administrator of my computer. My platform is a Dell Precision Workstation 340, pentium 4, 1.5 GB RAM, Windows XP Pro SP2. The sound card is Creative Sound Blaster Live Value (installed by Dell).

  • Skipping problems in 5.5

We have been using Audition 5.5 for over a year without issue until the last couple of months.  We use Audition to record two-hour programs, and without having made any changes to the computer (and our IT department has checked it for basic diagnostic issues, updated the BIOS, checked for viruses, etc.) it has been consistently been producing files that will skip terribly during playback.
At first it was dropping a lot of samples and causing the file to actually be shorter than the recording time (by about 2 - 3 minutes out of two hours).  After we checked the machine for viruses or other conflicts, I went through the troubleshooting document online and adjusted the latency setting (we only have MME available for the driver), as well as reset the temp folder as suggested.  It seemed to help to increase the latency to 300ms (making it shorter made the problem much worse).
After making those changes, we now have files that are the correct length, no detected dropped samples, but the skipping problem is still there -- so rather than missing samples it sounds like it is alternately speeding up and skipping over parts, although the timer on the player doesn't skip around in time at all.
    Here's our system info:
    Windows 7 Enterprise
    Service Pack 1
    Intel Pentium D CPU 3.40GHz
    2.00 GB RAM
    32 bit Operating System
    43.5GB free storage space
Any help appreciated!  Is it possible that the RAM or the sound card are bad?
    Thanks-
    Erica

Your clue here is that changing the latency settings makes a considerable difference. On a system with a well-behaving disc drive, the latency setting really isn't too crucial until you get down to relatively small figures. This is pretty much down to the Hard Disk, I fear, especially if the system was also having trouble writing to it correctly (mistimed recording). This is pretty much prioritised when it's happening, and if the disc can't even cope with that, something's seriously getting in the way of it.
If you want to do an experiment to prove this, then get a SSD in an external carrier, connect it via a USB2 port and try recording to that, and see what happens then...
In an ideal situation, you'd have at least three separate drives in a DAW - one for the OS, one for all the temp files, and another one for work file storage. Working like this smooths the operation of everything quite considerably.
But as ryclark says, if you are trying to do this with a network drive, then all bets are off. And even though 2GB of RAM isn't exactly a lot, I don't think that either the RAM or your sound device is implicated in this. Audition's use of RAM isn't exactly heavy, after all.

  • SKIP PROBLEM CLIPS WHILE CAPTURING

    HI there -
I'm doing a conform on a show that was shot using T.O.D TC and hence there are lots of nasty little TC breaks in some of the clips.
In AVID its possible to skip problem clips whilst batch capturing - is there a similar function in FCP ?
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Jonny

    Cheers Jerry
The TC breaks aren't in the clips themselves luckily - there just on the tape between some of the takes.
Unfortunately the offline-editors have used 'in' points too close to these breaks, so when FCP searches for a pre-roll point - it cant find it. I've set the pre-roll to 1 sec, but some clips are still causing problems.
Just would be useful if I could skip these clips whilst capturing and move on to the next one in the list, instead of stop starting the whole time.
    Thanks anyway

  • Tracks on my iphone keep jumping/skipping

    Dear All,
Since receiving my new iPhone 4 (16GIG) tracks have been jumping/skipping.
These are random songs, audiobooks, and even video.
If I remove all songs and fill the phone videos, sync the iPhone, remove the videos and then replace the songs, different songs start skipping.
I have reset my iPhone, repeatedly, rebuilt my settings from from scratch but the songs keep skipping
It looks to me as though the hard drive either has bad sectors or is just damaged, especially as different songs skip each time I remove/replace them.
Has this happened to anyone else and do I need to get a replacement iPhone.
    Best Regards
    G

Good guess, but there is no hard drive, the iPhone uses flash memory.
Check Settings > iPod > Shake to Shuffle.
    Is it turned on??????
Also, are you listening to music through the speakers, headphones, or bluetooth headset?
I have found when listening via bluetooth headset that audio will "skip" or "pause" anytime the connection between the headset and device is lost for a split second.  Also, having the device set to mute will cause all audio to pause anytime a text, email, or push notification activates

  • Video Jumps & Skips after Exporting...HELP!

    Hello All,
I am working with AVCHD footage in Premiere Pro & After Effects (using dynamic link).  All of the clips in the Premiere Pro sequence I have used the "Replace with After Effects Composition".  I am using After Effects mainly for keying out the green screen in my footage.  I "Export" the sequence from Premiere Pro (QuickTime:MPEG-4) and when I play the 3:37 video, the first 1:39 has 20 clips that are jumpy and skip.  There are also some clips in the beginning of the video that don't experience any sort of jumpy picture.
I am very confused & frustrated because the second half of the video is perfect.  I even use some of the same footage in the beginning of the video in the end so it doesn't make sense that it skips & jumps in the beginning and not in the end!?
It is tough for me to explain so here is a link to see the problem & hopefully some of  you have seen this and know how to fix it.
I am current with all updates for all my Adobe software (Adobe Production Premium CS4) so I don't believe this to be the issue.
    Thanks
In the clip, the beginning shows 2 different shots that are jumpy then you'll see the same shots (towards the end of the video) that don't jump.

Thanks Jeff...after some more investigation into this problem I was wondering if rendering it in AE with the the Field order set to either Upper or Lower has anything to do with it?  Especially because a majority of my footage rendered out fine without this option selected at all?

  • Skipping problems when 2nd audio is added

I have a problem of movies skipping and long beachball delays when adding transitions etc. if I have two audio tracks installed.
This even happens on small 15min. movies, but only when I add a second audio track.
All is normal until I add an audio track and at the point when the track starts to play.
I did not experience this with iMovie5 or before.
I have 1gb ram with 18gb free on system disk and working from external 500gb Lacie FW800.
The two 512mb memory sticks are Apple and system profiler says all is OK.
I repair permissions twice a week, run Disk Warrier once a week and Tech Tools every two weeks.
My OSX system is always current.
    example:
I start movies with about 15min. clips & photos. All is well.
When video is done then I add music from iTunes. When the movie arrives at the music it begins to skip and jump.
Also, if I add a transition it takes about 12 to 20 seconds to finish while I watch the ball.
I have cleared the system of all active applications just to see if ram is being used meaning I might need more than 1gb.
Doesn't matter if I have 0 or 5 active in the background ... same problem
When I finally get a project done and burn to DVD it plays just fine without skips.
    Harold

I need to clarify my initial description when I used the term "skips".
In reality I am experiencing pauses.
The movie does not skip to another location, but rather pauses both video and audio during play on iMovie only.
It takes a very long time to edit just 20 min. due to this problem.
    The burn is just fine.

  • Jump Backwards Problem...

I have 5 Tracks each with 4 chapter markers
When you press Start, the whole things goes with storys and shows up like a seamless film. The start button is linked to the story of the first track end at the end it jumps to the story of the next track via script with a jump command.
So far...so fine it works. When i skip forward it proceeds throug the storys.
The problem is, when i want to jump backwards. That only applys within the story, so when i am in the 3th story and press backwards it goes only to the begin of the story but not to the story before (2nd).
somebody got an idea how to solve this? can it be done with storys? or is there some other way to skip backwards?

this is standard. like when you skip forward on an audio CD, you go to the next track. When you skip back, you go to the beginning of the same track. This is because the start of the track you are on is the first marker seen when shuttling backwards. Since you know scripting, you just need to make one for jumping back 2 spots.

  • Imovie HD suddenly jumps/skips/freezes after many successful changes

    1.8 GHz G5, OSX 10.3.9, Imovie HD 5.0.2, Qt 7.0.4
I have a one hour video which is almost finished. But, after making many successful changes I suddenly find that any new change will cause the movie to get stuck on one frame, and then jump to another futher down. Sometimes the sound will move correctly, but the picture on my screen does not change. When this happens, the start/stop button on the screen does not respond to commands, and sometimes the pinwheel will appear.
I have corrected the permissions, done the drive repair, done the P/Q P ram clearing function, and Apple had me trash the Imovie Plist and cache to no avail. I had this problem once before with the Imovie that came before Imovie HD and I changed the hard drive at that time, so the drive is ok and I also get the same result when i use the external drive.
This only happens one hour videos with many changes. I have 1.5 Gb of memory. could some of the memory chips be defective? your help will be appreciated.

    Hello, taronger,
You have 1.5 GB memory? You mean hard disk space? That is not enough for iMovie to properly operate. You need at least 15-20GB free space.
I see that you are using an external drive as well. It needs a good amount of free space also.
That said, I notice the same jerking, stuttering of iMovie playback whenever I have a lot of transitions or effects, or when my movie exceeds about 1hr 20min. I have found by experience that my burned DVD will be fine. So, I just manually move the playhead to be sure the change took effect, and continue on with making my movie with all its transitions and effects. If I want to use this version to burn to DVD, I create my chapter markers and then save my completed iMovie. I open iDVD, create my project and drop my movie into it. I save it as a disk image, and if that is ok, I know it will burn fine.
Sometimes I want chapter markers right on my transitions, so in that case, or if I want to play the movie through first before creating my DVD, I will save iMovie as a QuickTime Full Quality movie. (You must have enough free space to do this). I then open a new iMovie project and import the quicktime version of my movie. I create my chapter markers and use this movie to drop into iDVD and burn my DVD.
I also use the QT version to share back to my camcorder, as I have found that the jumpy/skipping one will not share smoothly.
If your iMovie looks ok when you manually move the playhead, you might try one of these methods to get a good burned DVD.

  • Home Sharing: Half loading and skipping problems

    Hello all
Firstly, thank you to those that are reading this with a view to helping, and to those that will, hopefully, reply.
I am looking at getting my iTunes library shared in my home. My current set up is simple: 2011 MBP, iPhones, iPad, all music on the MBP and all devices using the same iTunes account (although, there are different iCloud accounts on the devices, but I assume this is not a problem). All devices up-to-date. Approx 80GB of ripped/iTunes purchased music. The first thing I want to acheive is my iPhone having access to my music library so I can plug the phone into a dock and play what I want.
I believe I have set up Home Sharing correctly. When I use the Music app on any iOS device I can see the library on the MBP, but one of two things happens:
    - Mostly, the library half loads (exactly half, it quickly gets to half and stops), or
    - The library does eventually load but when i try to play a song it skips/cycles through every song without playing, until it comes to the end of the playlist/album
Both of the above seem to be reasonably common problems, with no solution.
As a troubleshoot, i set up the Remote app; this works flawlesly. I can control iTuines from an iPhone with no problems at all. "It just works." I therefore assume that I can mostly rule out router problems and me not setting things up properly.
So, the question: Is there a real solution to the above?
    Many thanks
