Jump to image in library

When I am working with an image in a Collection, I quite frequently want to go back to see it in its context in the library. For instance, I may decide I want to add another image from that shoot into the Collection I am working on. When I right click on the image, I have options like "Open in Loupe", "Open in Compare", and "Show in Finder", but no "Show in Library".
My filenames are "YYYY-MM-DD at hh-mm-ss.CR2" and my Library folder structure is YYYY/YYYY-MM so it isn't difficult to manually find the files, but it does take time to click through, which isn't good workflow.
Is there a way to do what I want? If not, could this feature be added?

Doing this from memory - If you look in the right panel (library mode), one of the drop down sections lists the file name and it's folder. If you click on the folder name, you jump to the picture within the folder.

  • After selecting an image in Library mode (grid view), my selection of image jumps to another image.

    Through several versions of Lightroom, I have encountered this problem.  I choose an image in Library mode while in Grid view and the image jumps to another that I have not chosen.  This happens about 75% of the time.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Does anyone know of a remedy.  I am using a Mac.

    You are using the Option key to access the Library under the Go finder Menu?
    Click in the Go menu the hold the Option key and you will see Library appear, otherwise is is hidden.

  • "File could not be found" message on top of all images in Library:  How do I fix this?[was:Question]

    New to LR 5.2 Running OS X 10.8.5. Tried to save image in file folder. Now get this message at top of all images in Library: "File could not be found." How do I fix this?

    “Save” is not a term used with LR to create images.  What are you trying to do, exactly, in terms of LR menu options?
    Are there questions marks on the thumbnails for the images that say File could not be found?
    Sometimes a screenshot can communicate things quicker than words.

  • Error in saving modified image to Library (ios 4.3)

    Reference thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/7211117?messageID=7211117
    I still have an error in my ios (4.3) code that "cannot type cast @selector expression" when I try to do the following:
    // Save image
    UIImageWriteToSavedPhotosAlbum(imageCopy, self, (SEL)@selector(image:didFinishSavingWithError:contextInfo:), nil);
    If I have the following I get an error message, I'm looking for a fix, so I can save the modified image to my ios device library.
    I also saw this as an option ( http://iphoneincubator.com/blog/windows-views/image-processing-tricks ):
    UIImageWriteToSavedPhotosAlbum(image, self, @selector(imageSavedToPhotosAlbum: didFinishSavingWithError: contextInfo:), context);
    But if I change image: to imageSaveToPhotosAlbum then it complains that context was not defined.
    I could use some help!!  Thank you.

  • How to Manually Sort Images in Library View

    In lightroom 1 I was able... under some circumstances... to be able to pick and drag images to a new location in the library grid mode.
    What do I have to do to sort my images by the time they were taken first...then...be able to manually drag some images into a new location in the grid?
    When I rename the images later...it would be great if the sequence number would be the same order as the grid view sequence.
    Thanks
    Suizzie

    Perfect...I put the 700 images into a collection of their own called first pass...and now I can manually pick up and move images around and drop them in new locations in the grid...Thanks!!

  • Warning Badge on all images in library but they are not referenced images.

    Hi All,
    I have my main library located on a server with all images within the library. I don't have any up to date vaults.
    I was having issues with one project where it was showing me 'unsupported image' so I set up a vault, backed it up and then rebuilt the library. When it came back all images have the warning badge with an arrow as if they are referenced files that have moved location or something?
    I am currently trying to rebuild the library again before I try restoring the last (flawed) vault to the local hard drive.
    Has anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks
    Max

    YEEESSS! Thank God.........
    I checked inside the project again and compared it with a working project on another manchine and noticed the / had turned to some weird scissor symbol. I guess this must have happened when I enabled Airport backup on my QNAP which turns the share into AFP.
    I am now manually changing them back to / and they are relinking back into the library - Phew!!
    I guess I will have to start Keeping the library on the local drive. I do the same with my macbook pro but have older images referenced to the server to save space, maybe I should use the same tactic on the Mac Pro. I guess that means that the Vault only holds the metadata and not the images as they will be on the NAS, however that is RAID protected so should be ok.
    Thanks!

  • Repair corrupted images in library

    I have a somewhat unusual (I hope) problem -
    A while back my primary hard drive died. It was where I stored my Aperture library. (All of my photos are backed up elsewhere.)
    I was able to restore the library from backup, but I am finding that some images that were stored in it didn't make it through the process intact. (Referenced files are fine, and thankfully most of my files are referenced.) What I would like to do is replace the damaged files with their backed-up originals, preferably changing their status to referenced in the process.
    So far all I've been able to do is re-import the files as referenced, which loses all of the metadata that I had entered previously. I'd like to do something like 'locate missing files' instead, except that option is greyed-out for files stored in the library. Is there another option?

    You could try relocating the managed originals. Once they are out of the Aperture library you could then replace the file with the backed up original. Not sure if this will work so you best try it out on one or two images first.
    What is wrong with the managed originals that came in with the backup? Have you tried doing a library repair to see it that fixes the issue?

  • No images in Library grid view

    Hi,
    In V1.0, when I set my Library to grid view I only see my images for a short while. Then all images turn to grey squares. Updating the grid (like changing thumbnail size or sorting order) again shows images only for a short while.
    Loupe and Compare view are ok.
    Never had this with the Beta versions.
    Is there a setting I need to change?
    Thx,
    Haya

  • Images in library module aren't as sharp compared to develop module.

    For some reason images in the library module aren’t as sharp compared to the develop module. If I’m in develop images are nice and sharp but as soon as I select the library you can see the image quality drop and image becomes less blurry!
    I’ve had a look on here and other people have this issue and I’ve tried the various fixes suggested with no success at all.

    It sounds like the library module is using a lower quality preview. If you are using minimal or embedded previews, they could look different than what you saw in the Develop module. Do other changes you make seem to be in the preview, just lower quality? Like if you applied a heavy vingette, do you see the that in the preview? If you don't, that could mean LR isn't updating the previews it uses in the Library module and you might want to look and purging your cache. If you do, try rendering a 1:1 preview for the image and see if the preview looks better.
    Another thing to check is to make sure your standard preview size is appropriate for the size of your monitor. If you've got a huge monitor but have a small preview size, you'll notice a difference.
    Choose Edit >  Catalog Settings (Windows) or Lightroom > Catalog Settings (Mac OS), and then select File Handling.
    For Standard Preview Size, choose the amount that is closest to the longest edge of your screen resolution, but not shorter than it. For example, if your screen resolution is 1920 x 1200 pixels, choose Standard Preview Size > 2048 Pixels.
    For Preview Quality, choose Low or Medium, which equates to the low- or mid-range of the quality scale for JPEG files.

  • Flash CS5, image from library in TLFTextField?

    I cannot seem to embed an inline image in a TLFTextField from the library.  Using the following snippet (with both a TLFTextField and a standard Dynamic TextField on the stage), the image appears ok in the Dynamic TextField, but no image in the TLFTextField.
    var source:String ="image <img src='linkageId' width='100' height='100'/> footer";
    TLFText.htmlText = source;
    DynamicText.htmlText = source;
    Changing the image source to a file path, and the image appears correctly in both.  However, I would really like to keep using the in-library symbols if possible, and the TLFTextField documentation suggests this is still possible.
    This is using Flash Professional CS5 11.0.0.485 on Windows 7.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    I'm not sure where you've misunderstood, so, I'll try to explain the entire process.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Draw or select a shape on the stage.
    2. With the shape selected, do Convert to Symbol... under the Modify menu.
    3. Give the symbol a good name, say "MySymbol".
    4. Make sure to select the "Export for ActionScript" checkbox in the Advanced section & check "Export in frame 1".
    5. In the frame script code (Window->Actions), I wrote the following function:
    function inlineResolver(incomingILG:Object):DisplayObject
    var ilg:InlineGraphicElement =  InlineGraphicElement(incomingILG);
    if (ilg == null)
    return null;
    return new InlineText;
    This is a function that TLF calls when it's sees an inline graphic in the markup, and it wants a DisplayObject for it. To create the DisplayObject, I simply create an instance of the symbol (new MySymbol(), or in my case, new InlineText()) and return that to the caller.
    6. Also note this line of code in the frame script:
    config.inlineGraphicResolverFunction = inlineResolver;
    That's what tells TLF which function to call when it finds an inline graphic in the markup.
    OK, I bet you knew all that stuff. What I think you're asking is how the original code shows the inline graphic on the stage. The only way to do that is to export it from InDesign. InDesign can export FLA files and the inline graphic objects get exported correctly in the markup. However, you can also hand write your markup which contains inline graphic objects. Here's the markup for the "tlf" object in my example FLA:
    <TextFlow blockProgression="tb" direction="ltr" lineBreak="toFit" whiteSpaceCollapse="preserve" version="2.0.0" xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/textLayout/2008"><p breakOpportunity="auto" direction="ltr" dominantBaseline="roman" leadingModel="romanUp" paragraphEndIndent="0" paragraphSpaceAfter="0" paragraphSpaceBefore="0" paragraphStartIndent="0" tabStops="s36 s72 s108 s144 s180 s216 s252 s288 s324 s360 s396 s432" textAlign="left" textIndent="0" textRotation="auto"><span baselineShift="0" cffHinting="horizontalStem" color="#1a1718" digitCase="default" digitWidth="default" dominantBaseline="roman" fontFamily="Minion Pro" fontSize="12" fontStyle="normal" fontWeight="normal" kerning="on" ligatureLevel="common" lineHeight="120%" lineThrough="false" locale="en" renderingMode="cff" textDecoration="none" trackingLeft="0%" trackingRight="0%">Red Circle Inline graphic </span><img baselineShift="0" customSource="225" locale="en" source="225"/><span baselineShift="0" cffHinting="horizontalStem" color="#1a1718" digitCase="default" digitWidth="default" dominantBaseline="roman" fontFamily="Minion Pro" fontSize="12" fontStyle="normal" fontWeight="normal" kerning="on" ligatureLevel="common" lineHeight="120%" lineThrough="false" locale="en" renderingMode="cff" textDecoration="none" trackingLeft="0%" trackingRight="0%"> Text following the red circle inline graphic</span></p></TextFlow>
    Notice the <img> tag and that there is a "customSource" attribute. For the purposes of writing custom markup, all instances of the same symbol should use the same customSource numeric identifier. Other than that, they should all be unique numeric values. You can use the customSource identifier in the inlineResolver() function to know which graphic TLF is asking you for. For example, you could have code that looks like this:
    function inlineResolver(incomingILG:Object):DisplayObject
    var ilg:InlineGraphicElement =  InlineGraphicElement(incomingILG);
    if (ilg == null)
    return null;
    if (incomingILG.userStyles.customSource == 225)
         return new MySymbol();
    return null;
    I hope that answers your question.

  • Emptying Aperture trash doesn't remove images from library

    Not sure what's going on.
    Did a little house cleaning over the past few days and deleted about 2K images overall. And I emptied the aperture trash. The number of files in the program goes down. But the size of the library doesn't change. The date of for the library does change and shows the current time.
    I archived all my images to an external vault. That vault is significantly smaller than my library.
    Then I upgrade to the new version 3.1.2. Deleted preferences.
    I created a new library as a test. I imported 188 images. Then deleted a few. Emptied the aperture trash. The number of images went to 152.
    The size of my library remained unchanged. No aperture images in main computer trash can. And when I go into the masters folder in the library I see all 188 images there.
    System: mac pro 2006. OS 10.6.8

    Thanks for taking the time to reply.
    I don't remember which version I upgraded from. But the problem was there in the old version as well as the new one.
    I did do the repair rebuild just before upgrading with only a 0.1GB difference in file size afterwards.
    And, as I said, when creating a brand new library with only 188 images the same problem occurred. So 2 separate libraries on the same drive.
    I just created a new library as a test on my main drive (a different drive) with the same issue. Files are deleted in the program but not in the library.
    There is no problem with the trash in any other respects. Other files have been deleting just fine.
    The aperture deleted images aren't even reaching the trash can.
    I might need to reload aperture.

  • Issues when more than 100K images in library

    Hi,
    I've recently spent a lot of time importing several years worth of images into my Aperture Library. At the moment the library stands at approx 104K images. The images are arranged by date into projects - each project having *less than 10K images*. An example of the structure is:
    .Library (Built in smart albums).
    .Client Disks (Folder)
    .RAW Library (folder)
    .-2004 (year)(folder)
    .--01 Jan 2004 (Month)(folder)
    .---29 Jan 2004 (Day)(project)
    .---30 Jan 2004 (Day)(project)
    .--02 Feb 2004 (month)(folder)
    .-2007 (year)(folder)
    .--01 Jan 2007 (month)(folder)
    .---27 Jan 2007 (day)(project)
    etc
    The problem lies with Smart albums or doing any searching across the whole library
    Smart albums work fine when they're created at the year or month scope within a folder (eg '.Raw Library.2007' or '.Raw Library.2007.01 Jan 2007'), but fail when they are created at the top container scope of '.Raw Library' or at the default aperture 'library' level.
    When the smart albums fail, the message that is given is 'Too many images to display. Please create a smart album to show images in the browser'. This occurs even when the selection made should only amount to 100-200 images. Smart Galleries which also worked quite happily across the scope of the library before there where more than 100K images have also stopped working.
    This actually makes Aperture pretty useless as an image library management tool as I would have to create multiple smart galleries in each year to find results across the library and that sort of defeats the purpose of managing the images in Aperture
    FWIW, The Machine specs are: MacPro 3Ghz, 2Gb Ram, OS-X 10.4.9, Aperture V1.5.3, Software Update fully-up-to-date and the images are all referenced, not managed.
    I'd be interested if anyone else has come up against this issue!

    Glad I'm not the only one who has the problem.
    After a bit more playing it seems that the default smart albums do work, at least the 5*, * or better, Rejected and last week, last month work - the yearly ones don't. If you create a smart album and use the star ratings it works. But the moment you add another criteria in - such as a keyword - then it stops working again. If one filter can work with a global scope, then why shouldn't one that's got a keyword added...

  • Lr3.5 windows_7 64bit: Problem moving images in Library collections

    I am ruhnning Windows &7 Pro, 64 bit and I'm experiencing inconsistant behavior in Lightroom 3.5 with regard to moving images within collections.  When I try to move an image, to place it in the order inwhich I would like view the sequence, the image is placed at the end of the sequence no matter where I place it initially.  I've tried the filmstrip view and the grid view and it happens in both.  I recall doing this without problems previously however it was in the imported Library not a collection, but why would this be different??  One still needs to reorder images in collections.  I've made certian to change the "sort" option to user each time I've tried to do this.  Any Ideas?  Thanks

    'User order' has some surprises. When it works it can be difficult to appreciate what differs from when it doesn't. Julianne Kost video is a good starting point on what will and won't work with a little on why  http://tv.adobe.com/watch/the-complete-picture-with-julieanne-kost/custom-sort-orders/  . If collections and several folders are involved the work round to meet your goals may include a combination of moves, copies and renaming files (export and re-import even) to create an alphanumeric sort. The 'dumping' at the end of the sequence manifests itself in other situations related to the order status in force at the point when you start moving files.  See http://forums.adobe.com/message/4026355#4026355 which came down to making sure the sort starting point is appropriate
    Good luck
