Jump to slide not working

Hi. I'm using Captivate 3. My module is set up like this:
Slide 1: Title
Slide 2: Task Selection with buttons where users can choose which section to complete (Demo, Interactive Activity #1, 2, 3, 4, Quiz).
Slides 3-10: Demonstration
Slides 11-20: Interactive Activity #1
Slides 21-30: Interactive Activity #2
Slides 21-40: Interactive Activity #3
Slides 41-50: Interactive Activity #4
Slides 51-55: Quiz
These buttons on Slide 2 work fine:
Demo
Interactive Activity #1
These buttons on Slide 2 do not work - nothing happens when I click:
Interactive Activity #2
Interactive Activity #3
Interactive Activity #4
Quiz
I have another module set up similarly but without any user interactivity. So I think the problem is with the interactivity, but I can't figure it out.
Help please!

Hi there
Likely it's in your quiz settings. You most likely have something configured in a way that the interactive bits actually require the user to complete them before moving forward. And when that's the case, Captivate will disallow jumping to a slide beyond the bits that haven't yet been completed.

  • "Jump to Slide" not working at all

    Version: Captivate 4
    LMS: No
Method of testing: Preview in browser
    Issue:
I am creating a quiz that uses images and click boxes to assess the user's knowledge of MS Word.  Some of the questions involve 2 steps, so that the user has to click one spot on the image and then another on the next image.  However, if the user misses the first step, they should see the next question instead of the second step.
I've set the click-box to "jump to slide ___" but it doesn't  It simply continues on to the next slide.  I thought maybe the slide navigation was overruling the click box navigation, so I set it to "no action", but still no luck.  I also tried setting the click box to "continue" and the slide to do the jump.
It comes down to this:  I cannot get "jump to slide" to work no matter where I set it.  This should be easy - using a built-in function to jump to another slide. I've been doing this since the days of Hypercard in the early 90's.  Why can't this program do this simple function?  My colleague and I are very confused.

    Hi there
A Click Box will only jump to a slide if the user clicks the clickable area. From what you have described, you want the jump to occur if they click outside the area, no?
Note that you may assign a number of attempts. So I'm thinking you want to assign a single attempt to the Click Box. If the user clicks the clickable area, you jump to the next slide. But if they click outside the clickable area, you then want to jump to the other slide.

  • Jump to Slide not working correctly

I created quiz questions in Captivate (5.5) that are interspersed throughout the content and  I want to to jump back to the beginning of the section that contains the relevant content for review if the user gets the question incorrect. I created custom question slides using variables and advanced actions and it seemed to work great.  Now all of a sudden, the [Review] button, which appears if the user gets the question incorrect, does not work. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks Lilybiri,  I know this was posted a while back, but you saved me today!
My quiz scope was preventing my jump to slide from working.  Essentially the quiz scope ends in your deck on the last slide that has a scorable field.  Captivate 5 wasnt allowing me to jump beyond that point from eariler in the deck.  Ex:  My menu was on slide 4.  I had a single scorable click box (for LMS SCORM reasons) on slide 75.  And my last menu item was trying to jump to slide 76.  I found I could not jump to anything beyond 75.  I Simply moved the scorable object to slide 76 (or could have been even further out as needed), and its working again.
If you have nothing scorable, quiz scope shouldn't affect jump to, at least that's been my experience in the past.  You can check using the F9 (advanced interactions) and look in the "Include in quiz" column for the YESs.

  • Button-jump to slides not working

    Hi!
I have created a content menu for my project. Created several
buttons on the same slide. Only the first one works - which links
to the next page. The rest of the buttons don't link to the slides
though I have set it to "jump to slide - 5 slide 5".
    Please advise. Thanks!!

Hi Cherry_t and welcome to our community
I've seen this behavior before. In the case I saw, the user
had inserted question slides that were placed between where the
jump was supposed to go and the slide they were on at the time they
clicked the menu item. You may wonder what this would have to do
with impeding progress. Well, it's not so much the fact you have
Question slides, but if my hunch is correct, you also have enabled
a setting for quizzing that says each question MUST be answered
    before the project can continue.
So take a look at the following setting: Project > Quiz
Manager... > Quiz Settings tab and look at the second field
labeled: Required. My guess is that it may say "Required - the user
must take the quiz to continue".
    Cheers and happy Friday! Rick

  • Captivate 5.5 Buttons and Jump To Slide Not Working

I have a home slide where users can choose from 10 state-specific training options.  There are 178 slides in the total presentation.  When I open the presentation fresh a couple of the buttons work and jump to the correct state.  One button jumps to a different slide than what is defined and the rest of the buttons do not work at all.  If I select one of the buttons that works then return to the beginning of the presentation all the buttons work fine.  The problem occurs when I open a fresh copy of the published presentation from my hard drive.  The buttons are all active and there is no click box on the slide - you need to click on one of the state buttons to continue past the initial slide.  I cannot understand why this is not working or why everything works fine when I return to the home slide from somewhere else in the presentation.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

    Hi there
Buttons may seem a bit hit and miss and may be daunting with all the Active VS Inactive timeline bits and all. But I've really never known them to totally fail or be all that random.
    Things to consider with Buttons.
    What does the button do?
As I explained in my earlier reply, if a button is programmed to jump to a slide a lot farther down the track, and that portion of the track hasn't yet arrived from the server, this could well be an issue.
Another thing that can affect whether a button operates as you wish is if you are trying to jump to a slide that is beyond a Question slide (or a slide being treated as a Quiz slide) and your Quiz settings are configured so that each question must be answered before you may proceed. Captivate will disallow visiting a slide beyond the first unanswered question.
Sometimes a Button is configured to open a URL or a file. And it works fine during preview within Captivate, but fails after you publish. This is most often an issue with Flash Security Settings blocking the action and is described at the link below:

Hopefully this sheds some light on the situation.

  • Jump to slide not working on slide before quiz (Captivate 4)

I have a Captivate 4 file that contains a two-part quiz (multiple choice, followed by interactive practice). The first screen of this file is an introduction; it has three buttons ((RETURN, which opens a separate URL), CONTINUE (goes to next slide which is Part 1), and a SKIP (bypasses Part 1, and jumps to the first slide of Part 2)). When I publish the file, the skip button will NOT bypass the screeens and jump to the specified slide…for whatever reason, it wants to advance to the next slide. I have checked my slide settings, button settings, etc. and cannot figure out why it is doing this. Any suggestions?

    Hi there
Can you give us the URL that doesn't work?
Have you tested the URL from a typical web page on your server? My thought is that you might even see the same thing happen from a web page. Maybe your web peeps need to investigate.

  • Jump to slide not working in quiz

The answer the learner selects will dictate where they go and what they score in the quiz I built.  This was working and all of the sudden it stopped.
    Please help

What are the Quiz settings, more specifically Required setting? And will you ever show the score? Because the score of all question will be shown at the end, and if a question is skipped, its score will be 0.
When you are working with default Question slides, you lose a lot of control.

  • Slider not working around 50% of the time.

    Hello,
Slider not working around 50% of the time when I get a call. I hit the sleep button and home button several times and then it works.
I've done the soft reset several times. I've restored settings completely 2 times.
the screen is clean, my hands are clean, the wifi is off, the phone has not been dropped, it only happens when receiving a call and never happens when I'm just turing it on to access the menu. Bluetooth is off as well.
    Any ideas?

this happened to me a week or so after buying my iPhone. Fixed it with a reboot... Simul holding home and on/off until apple appears on the screen . Been working for axweek ok now.

  • On exit, jump to slide not functioning

Using Captivate V. 6.0.2.325, at the end of slide 19, I would like it to jump backward to slide 6.  Slide 19 contains an audio recording, and many buttons that jump to other slides.  No matter how I preview it (in web browser or not), the jump to slide function doesn't work, it continues on to slide 20 instead.  The project does not have reporting enabled.  I tried removing all the buttons and having only the audio on the slide, that didn't seem to make a difference.
Any suggestions on troubleshooting or other things I might be overlooking?  Also to note, I tried opening a copy of the project in version 7.0.1.237 for grins.  No change.
    Thanks so much!

You can insert a text container (shape or caption) with the system variable cpInfoCurrentFrame. Use the X button in the Format accordion to insert the var. Play from that slide, then that variable will start showing the first frame which will be 1. Default framerate (FPS) for Captivate is 30 frames per sec. Check the duration of the slide, and calculate the number of the last frame from that. When playing 'From this slide' - not F3 but F8 you'll see if the last frame will show up.

  • New ipod touch slider not working

I just got a new ipod touch 5 hours ago and the slid to un lock is not working. I have tried restoring it and it does nothing to help. Do i need to take it to the store or is there something i cad do to fix this problem?

Are you swiping your finger all the way from left to right? If you don't swipe all the way, it won't work.

  • Zoom image slider not working correctly

I am using the {tag_largeimage,zoom,600,360} on http://meluka.worldsecuresystems.com/bedroom/bedside-cabinets/low-storage-on-castors. I want to either 1. make the slider work for the full width (600px) as at the moment the slider effect works for what looks like the deafault 150px width & then has no effect, or 2. Customize the slider width to 150px width (keeping the image at 600px wide). Does anyone know if this is possible with css/javascript & if so, can you please point me in the right direction?

I just upgraded from the original iPhone 8Gb model to the iPhone 4 32Gb model. One of the first few days after I got the phone I had this problem and couldn't accept a call from my mother. A few days ago my wife tried to call me and the same thing happened. On the same day my wife tried to call, the unlock screen was black and the slider would not unlock the phone. I could pull the slider all the way to the right side of the screen, but it would just stay there and not wake the phone. Unfortunately, my wife's uncle was standing right next to me when this happened, and he just got the Droid X, and promptly took it out and unlocked it easily while mocking me. I never had this issue on my original iPhone, and it's kind of annoying, even though it doesn't happen very often, I hate having the question of "will I be able to answer my phone this time?" in the back of my mind. Reception is great, and I can hear people soooo much better than on my original iPhone, but this unlocking issue is the thing making me irritated. Especially when I'm right next to someone holding a brand new Droid X and showing me how easy it is to answer a call.

  • Conditional Branching with quiz slides not working

Attempting to use conditional branches with quiz slidescauses
the other quiz slides in my presentation to not work correctly. I
am attempting to create a 'test-out' pre-quiz for a segment of
slides in the presentation. I followed the instructions to add
conditional branching per page 46 of the Breeze Presenter User
Guide to obviously no avail. Is there a simple straightfoward
manner in which someone has successfully used conditional branches
with their quiz slides in their presentation?

    Hi,
I had the same issue.Apparently as of now PDF templates do not support conditional formatting for XML Publisher.
See Tim Dexter's response to my query at the bottom of this thread...
Re: Using the '%' operator in microsoft word template builder for XMLP
I could get some conditional formatting to work on the pdf template but only for the form field font, size and styles using Javascript, but I don't think there is a way to display values for the form field based on an if condition...

  • Jump Cuts are not working

I am having trouble getting jump cuts to work. I put some music in the background, added beat markers, selected the part of the video (about 12 seconds over 21 beats) that I want to jump cut and clicked on 5 frames...*nothing happens* except the video clip that I had selected is now unselected. I tried this same technique at the Apple store on their demo computers and it worked fine. Any ideas?
    Message was edited by: jjackson2007

Ok, so i have the same problem. The jump cuts doesnt work in the project I want it to work in. But if I create a new project with just one movie added, add beat markers and press jump to beats, it works just fine.
Could you be more precise about the transitions? Is it the transition between sceenes in the movieproject?
I have turned of Lock to Beats, I highlight the sceene I want, press jump to beatmarkers and nothing happens. I`ve tried just about every trick I can find from this forum and nothing works. But I dont fully understand the "transition" solutin you have come up with, so of someone could explain it abit better it would be much appreciated:) My Imovie is not in english either, so I`m not sure what you mean when you say transitions, hehe:)

  • Enhance Timing/Align to Slider not working

I can't get my "Enhance Timing/Align to" slider to work. It is white - not blue. Even after I perform a quantization in a MIDI track and the notes snap to grid, it won't work. From what I understand, I should be able to move the slider at this point so that I can adjust how much quantization actually happens.

  • Continue Button on Quiz Results Slide NOT Working Properly

I'm experiencing a functionality issue with the "Continue"
button on the Quiz Results slide:
Situation 1: After initially completing the quiz, I need to
click the "Continue" button on the Quiz Results slide only once to
advance to the next (and last) slide in the quiz movie. This is
fine & works as I would expect.
Situation 2: After initially completing the quiz, if instead
I choose to review the quiz, later when I get to the Quiz Results
slide, I need to click the "Continue" button TWICE to advance to
the next (and last) slide in the quiz movie. This does NOT work as
    I would expect.
Any idea why only 1 click is needed in the Situation 1 while
2 clicks are needed in Situation 2? Any way to fix Situation 2 so
that only 1 click is needed?
    Thanks much!

    CapManZ,
Whether the Continue button on the Quiz Results slide
requires one or two clicks is mysterious indeed. See
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=67&catid=464&threadid =1302278
for another discussion about its misbehavor.
Actually, the number of clicks required depends on how long
you wait after the Quiz Results slide appears, prior to clicking
the Continue button. In your situation 1 you probably answered
questions rather than using the skip button, so you viewed the
question slides for a while prior to arriving at results. In your
situation 2 you probably used the Skip button to zip through the
slides to return to the results screen. Try this. In situation 2,
when you get to the Quiz Results slide, instead of clicking the
Continue button, go get a cuppa joe and then see if a single click
will work. If so please let me know.
I've experimented with a Captivate 2 multiple choice quiz in
a slide show that contained only 10 questions and the Results
slide. I added a text caption with fade in and fade out enabled
(the default) to the Results slide. I found that after the caption
fades in, one click on the continue button advances the slide. So I
used the caption's appearance to help measure the timing.
In the tests below I skipped as rapidly as possible, pausing
at various slides to see how it affected the single click
    threshold.
    Skip all slides: 28 sec
View slide 1 for 60 sec and then skip: 28 sec
Skip to slide 5, pause 30 sec, and then skip: 13 sec
Skip to slide 10, pause 30 sec, and then skip: 2-3 sec
Answer each slide (took more than 30 sec): 2-3 sec
Skip all slides, click Continue as fast as possible: 2-3 sec
I also reduced the number of question slides in the quiz and
    skipped all slides.
    7 questions: 18 sec
    3 questions: 7 sec
I believe the threshold value (the duration required before
clicking the Continue button advances to the next slide) is
composed of two durations which add together to determine the
threshold. The Result's slide's timeline probably sets the
threshold's lower limit. Clicks prior to 3 seconds are ignored.
Time per slide and number of slides left to go sets the upper limit
for the threshold. The slower the movement, the lower the
    threshold.
    Several conclusions:
This probably isn't a situation in which the first click is
ignored. Instead the first click reduces the threshold's value to
the lower limit. The second click would then typically occur after
3 additional seconds, particularly if the user is surprised that
the first click didn't work and pauses slightly. A very fast
additional click on the Continue button is ignored as well.
Long quizzes will cause more complaints about the issue
because of what you experienced. It typically takes longer to
answer the quiz than review it.
Perhaps there's a workaround that would alert the user that
the Continue button is ready for clicking. I'm thinking that since
the text caption fade-in coincides with being ready to continue, an
image or the like might do the trick. Any suggestions out there?
Humm, a better alternative might be to show some images of
snacks on the results slide background. Through suggestive selling,
the user realizes it's time for a break and clicks Continue after
returning with that cuppa joe. And the sound you hear? It's the
Captivate developers giggling if they read my conclusions. Too bad
they're mum, since some real info might make it easier to make
    Captivate behave. Ah well.
    Phil
