Jumping to Photoshop

I have Lightroom 3.2 and Photoshop 5. When I try to jump a picture from Lightroom to Photoshop under Tools\Edit in\ Photoshop\ I find all the Photoshop lines grayed out. What am I doing wrong?

Hello, this is my first question posed to the Photoshop Macintosh forum. Hope I am in the right place.
I have saved my photoshop-edited images as jpegs. However, when I open them on a computer on which photoshop is loaded (my own, and others), the jpegs go through a lengthy process of opening photoshop first in order to open the jpeg.
If opening on computers that do not have photoshop, they simply open just fine as a jpeg.
What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help.

File size when jumping to Photoshop

When I open a NEF raw file from my Nikon D700 in Photoshop as 8 bit it opens at 49.5mp, but when in Lightroom, after working on the same file, if I jump to Photoshop, using Command-E, then the file opens at 32.5mp. Any idea why this is, and how can I get the file to 49.5mp when opening it through Lightroom. Thanks, Neil

Alamy's size requirement are rather outdated these days, but is based on the standard sizing for a image printed as a double page spread in a magazine as a guidance for what could be achieved by a scan of a 120 negative or transparency and high quality 35mm negatives. They have never updated it for digital files and just expect people to interpolate from most cameras (which natively produce smaller files) As they offer a range of sizes for all there files they set this as a minimum. The quality control checks then examine for all other factors.
I think Alamy stick with them as it is a good test of the submitting photographers understanding of image formats. I understand from the quality control people that large numbers of people try to upsize files as jpgs until they get to 40 odd MB (which is massive) and then get annoyed when they won't upload! Lots of files also get rejected due to a failure to understand the no sharpening rule and switching off input sharpening......rather than output sharpening.
Alamy sells to a wide range of clients and I suppose many don't want to interpolate themselves.
It is still far more sensible than agencies that still insist on such and such dpi!
By the way, the 95% setting for jpg output with a decent file will always produce a jpg small enough to upload to Alamy and any other agency without any potential deterioration in image quality if correctly processed, so I would suggest this as your standard setting when sending file to agencies. A 50 MB file compressed at 95% in LR will be between 4.5 and 7 MB dependent on the complexity of the image.
I submit to several agencies, magazines and newspapers. All have their own requirements, which I just meet every time. The customer is always right as long as they pay the bills. After a while most agencies know your work meets their quality thresholds and don't bother checking. Alamy is unusual in that the size thing is determined by software, so if this is wrong it doesn't even get to go to quality control. On your first hundred or so submissions every file is checked by a human being. Once you have regularly met the standards they don't usually bother checking any more and just pass the uploads; but I understand they still make the occasional check on random files to make sure. As they are a nice source of regular income and don't undercut proper agencies (unlike the open to all type agencies) I am OK with Alamy's quirky rules. There is even a plug in which does it all for you!

Lightroom 3 will not jump to Photoshop cs4 or 5.6. I have downloaded upgrade to 3.6.

Lightroom 3.6 will not jump to Photoshop CS4. I have reinstaled and it still will not see either CS4 or my trial download of CS5.5.

Why does my cursor jump from photoshop window to the file window im working on

I started experiencing this following problem when I upgraded my macbook pro to Lion OS
When I open PhotoShop CS4, I open a new file and the window appears so I could start working,
but then I move the cursor to the white or "gray and white checker" window and before getting to it,
my cursor jumps or skips almost to the middle of the window. After that the tools no longer work. my brush,
erase, bucket and all tools stay as the arrow cursor!
I need help with this!!!

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Mouse Jumps in Photoshop cs4

I am having Adobe photoshop CS4 Version:11.0.1 installed in my laptop with oprating system Windows 7 64 bit.
I am having trouble of mouse jumps always, I am realy frustrated with this, please provide me soltion to get rid of this problem.

Here's two other ways when in cmyk, but the settings below may need some
tweaking depending on which cmyk profile your using and your idea of what sepia
should look like.
For these to work, you'll have to desaturate the layer: To retain the smart
object, you could double click on the smart object icon, then in the image
that opens, go to Image>Adjustments>Desaturate and then save. This will
update the smart object in your original image.
1. Add a Color fill adjustment layer and set the layer blending mode to either overlay, softlight
or color.
2. Use a color balance adjustment layer and only adjust the Midtones.

Photoshop CC : Workspace Flashing Black When Inserting Guides & Completely Black When Adding Text

I recently bought Photoshop CC (2 Days Ago) and shortly after installing I jumped onto Photoshop CC and started to set up the prefferences for my personal use and started to just do some basic stuff and see whats new in CC. when inserting Guides & adding Text the workspace started to flash/stay BLACK. I don't know whats going on but my specs are better than the minimum requirements? Any idea whats going on? Operating System : Windows 8.1

Photoshop CS mouse+keyboard shortcuts

Hello,
I use this cs5 release after years passed with photoshop 7, which is the best for me.
I try to find an option to change shortcuts but without success.
When I use brush, ctrl+alt+right click change the brush size and ctrl+alt+shift+right click change brush color.
For my productivity I need ctrl+alt+right click change the layer and ctrl+alt+shift+right click link layer.
I can't switch every time between V and B...
Where can I change this or what the shortcuts for these actions when you are in brush mode????
In fact, I buy production suite for 1900€, and to use this, I have to change my system to seven x64 because of afterEffect......I have to change my ud1212 ultrapad because no 64bits driver exist, and photoshop is unusable??????????
It's probably the last time I buy adobe products.
Please help me for that, because I have to return on photoshop 7 if I can't do that....

Believe me, I feel your pain, but most of us have come to realize that the ways of using software do change over time.
In your case a jump from Photoshop 7.0 to CS5 is 5 major versions. With 5 major version releases of virtually any other product you'd find that there is no resemblance and you'd have to start all over in learning how to use it. Adobe has actually done a decent job of trying to keep the UI consistent, and it also says the UI was pretty good to start with.
Personally I've purchased every upgrade of Photoshop over time. The shock is less that way.
I don't know what to tell you besides encouraging you to try to get used to the new ways of doing things. I doubt Adobe would consider removing the new brush gestures.
I'm a fairly old dog myself and I find that living with something new for a few weeks, forcing myself to try new things, and sometimes configuring "legacy" operations when possible, helps. Of course then I find great frustration in going back and trying to use the old stuff, which doesn't offer the "new" ways!

Install Photoshop 4.0 on osx 10.4

Obviously I'm new subscriber, who else would ask "old school questions"
On my G4 Mac I'm using both os9 & osx 10.4. Successfully installed version 4 on os 9 classic but when I try to install on osx, computer automatically calls up os 9 to install photoshop. Am I doing the impossible? #2 what is earliest version of PS I can put on OsX. #3 can I jump from photoshop 4.0 to version 7.0 on osx? Trying not to strip funds buying cs3, don't need all it offers so looking for alternatives....thanks all

Photoshop 4 will NOT run in OS X. Period. (Photoshop Elements 4 will.)
Photoshop 7 will run in Tiger (10.4) but will NOT run in Leopard (10.5).
Photoshop 4 does not entitle you to upgrade to anything.
Photoshop 7 entitles you to upgrade to CS3 until such a time as CS4 is announced. Once CS4 is announced, Photoshop 7 will no longer qualify for any upgrade either.

Exporting .swfs from photoshop CS3

In earlier versions of Photoshop, I'd occasionally creative GIFS by jumping from photoshop to Image Ready. Now I just switch to the animation window and do pretty much the same thing to make gifs but once I have the animation I want, I can't export the gif as a shockwav file. Is there any way to do this or do I need to revert to older versions of PS when I want to do this. Any advice would be appreciated. I don't like that they took away Image Ready. They added the flash-like animation option within the animation window and that's nice I guess for people who don't use flash but I'd rather have the old school Image Ready back.

I did that twice and called them. They are always saying that they can't see what the problem is but they can setup a new order and try again - hello? - try and error ordering. I will not order on the Adobe Store anymore. This was the first and my last time I tried to order on their site or via a sales agent from their sales team. Also, when I see their emails that came back about the cancelation: No Subject line, weird emailaddress and with some really confusing product description and with a standard answer. I first thought it was some spam. I am really disapointed about their service.
I also found out that the sales guy put in a wrong phone number and I can remember we checked the number three times. I mean, I don't order a pair of socks here - I want a pro sales service for a pro product where I pay a lot of money for.

What i usually do is use the Print Screen key for the whole screen and Alt+Print Screen
for dialog boxes. This automatically copies to the system clipboard.
Then in photoshop elements use File>New>New from Clipboard and for photoshop
make an action New from Clipboard.

Sending photos to Lightroom over network - what works, what doesn't?

This weekend, my wife and I are helping with a photo shoot (member's photo directory for a local non-profit).
Here is what we've done in the past with Picasa and what we're trying to duplicate:
Photographer takes photos, which are saved onto his Windows laptop via Firewire in the studio.
SyncBack SE running on two networked Windows PCs make copies of the photos from the laptop onto the local hard drives.
Picasa automatically detected the newly-taken photos with its "Watch Folder" feature.
My wife and I do some cropping, adjusting, etc, so that the photos can be quickly reviewed and selected by the customer.
We exported the edited photos into folders in JPEG format.
The photographer takes the JPEGs and uses them to guide his re-edits of the raw photos with PhotoShop.
Ouch! Re-editing wastes a TON of time!
This time, we plan to use LightRoom; this will ensure that our cropping and editing will go right into PhotoShop easily (or so I'm told--I haven't USED LightRoom much yet!)
Big show-stopper: testing (by the photographer) caused duplicate photos in the LightRoom library, mitigated by a manual step or two to import as a work around some LightRoom quirks. And LightRoom doesn't really play nicely with network drives, or so it seems.
I think what we're aiming for is to have a "local catalog" in LightRoom, and have the photos stored in a network drive which it will "watch". That way, all we need to do is export our cropped/edited LightRoom catalogs, which the photographer can import into LightRoom, then it's a quick jump to PhotoShop.
... or is this not the tool for the job?

Per documentation Lr is not a network operation and per several posts in this forum is stated as such. I stopped using Picasa when Lr came out for the public. With PsCS5 another tool comes up as Bridge which I have not used. I have only read the basic Adobe description. Though I do know several Pro Photographers do use Bridge with multiple users even in different states. I do not see why you are editing jpegs for Proofs and as samples for a Photographer to re-edit in a different format, no matter which software you use. My workflow uses RAW files and an Import as DNG along with make a second copy to another folder in Lr and archive of RAW files after a double check of files and I only Export as jpeg after processing. But I only use 1 Lr Catalog and not a network solution.
My way of course is just my opinion of how my service works. Does anyone here also use Adobe Bridge?

ImageReady CS2 error: Could not fully open the application. Personalization information is invalid.

I am posting because Adobe is not offering tech support for CS2 and I cannot find this error for CS2 software, only CS.
I have been using CS2 for some time on the same machine (specs below, let me know if you need additional), and have had no problems. All of a sudden, I am getting the error: "Could not fully open the application. Personalization information is invalid." when opening ImageReady. Either jumping from Photoshop or opening from Applications.
I cannot reinstall, as I lost discs in a move, but it is valid software with valid serials, and registered, but no phone tech support! I would appreciate any help/advice/solutions greatly! Thanks.

I tried calling customer service today looking for a tech support number and was told that tech support is no longer offered for CS2! She told me to go to the forums at Adobe.com, which is how I ended up here.
My discs were lost in a move away from a roommate (along with some other things!), so there is no recovering them. I'll call it the cost of my sanity.
I have an old version of Director, but it gets so involved. It would have been so easy to flip my simple graphics straight from Photoshop to ImageReady. Looks like I will have to though.
Thanks for the time and attention to my problem. I guess I should be thankful that I only lost ImageReady, which I use once in a blue moon anyway.

cannot access "full screen" when playing slide show through Snapfish,(photos display 1/3 of screen), or find tool on Flash or Snapfish to correct (Windows 8-latest Flash & Explorer updates)thx !

I use Adobe Bridge 1.0 for sorting, selecting, and keywording digital photos. It's nice to be able to change the user interface in several ways to accommodate to the task at hand ... but I am desperately missing a way to magnify an image quickly (usually to check a photo's sharpness). Currently I have to jump to Photoshop which is time-consuming, memory-consuming, and dramatically oversized for just taking a quick look-see at the photo's focus.

Sample color with LR5

I cannot seem to accurately sample a color using the eyedropper in the adjustment brush section. The color (shade) that LR5 returns is always WAY lighter than the actual color. I want to sample a color off a piece of furniture and brush it over a small section that is washed out.
Any ideas?? I have Win 7 PC and LR5. I know I can do it with CS6 but I should be able to somehow perform this function from within LR and not have to jump to Photoshop.

Thanks...but sliders were set to zero, so that's not the problem.
In the photo, I have black jeans on and the clipping warning shows that it has gone to pure black, but when I sample there, the color swatch will show a dark blue. Other color areas show similar goofiness.
My intent was to only sample a color and paint with the brush on a faded spot very close to the sampled area. But if the sample color is dark brown the color that LR will show will be a light beige at best.
I'm stumped....

Adobe illustrator 'ctrl+c' not responding

Dear Adobe
I work for sierra atlantic and we purchased a license version, the problem is i am working in illustrator and photoshop at the same time, when i create a graphic in illustrator, i copy it and paste in photoshop, but when i am done in illustrator and pressed ctrl+c, and jumped to photoshop the system just hangover or does not respond for around 5mins or more, and then it comes back, this is making my work very slow, please give me a suggestion how to get out this problem, thank you

It does not sound like this would be a problem, but just in case, do you have an extraordinary amount of points in your art?
Are using fonts in your file?
I am thinking that there is a font data base that might be corrupt. There are utilities that can clear these files for you Mylenium would have to help you on that one though if you are running a pc.
Try to create a new user account and log into that new user account and see if the problem goes away if it does we have a better idea what might be happening.
