Jumping to slide causes question to be skipped

We are trying to set it up so that when a user gets a question incorrect, they jump back to a specific slide. This part works just fine but then, when it comes time for that question to be shown again, Captivate seems to skip it so the user will not have a chance to answer the question successfully.
We are trying to set it up so that all questions have to be answered correctly - if they get one wrong, they are bounced back to the relevant portions of the content to review the material and then answer the question again when they get back to it. We're fine with it skipping questions they got correct but when they get one wrong, we'd like to require them to attempt to answer it again.
Any ideas on how we remedy this? Thanks in advance!

Hello,
Your problem could be due to 2 reasons: if you jump out of the quiz scope, that starts with the first scored object and ends with the score slide, the quiz attempt will be shown as finished. I do not know how many attempts you allow on quiz level? Same for slide level: if you have more than one attempt per question user has to exhaust those attempts before leaving the slide.
To realize what you want completely, you'll have to create your customized question slides. To stay within the quiz scope can be realized by putting an interactive object on the first slide of the project with a small score.

  • Jump to Slide won't go backwards

    Folks,
I've searched this forum and the Adobe site and haven't found the exact answer to my questions...I apoogize if it's somewhere on here and I can't find it.
The problem is, I am trying to use the 'Jump to Slide' action on a button and am finding that it will not go to any previous slides in the presentation. It's important to note that this is not part of a quiz - I'm simply trying to let user skip back to certain sections. The buttons allow them to move forward correctly but not back.
Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong?
    - netgeist

Uner the quiz settings, the option to go backwards was the default setting. Also, there were no buttons with reporting options enabled. So
neither solution worked, unfortunately. I'm using Captivate 4, if that helps ring any bells from others that may have encountered this problem.
    Thank you,

  • Click Box - Jump to slide error

    Captivate v5.5
I have put a click box on slide 1 to allow users to my "Skip Intro" (slides 1-4) and jump to slide 5.
Whilst the click box does jump to slide 5 - the audio on slide 1 continues instead of the audio on 5.
I have tried using a button (instead of click box) and that works just fine - but problem with using a button is, I want slide 1 to continue to slide 2 etc by itself if the learner does not click "Skip Intro"
Does anyone have any suggestions what might be causing this.
    NEL

    Brilliant....Works a treat!
What I dont understand is I have used click boxes many times before to jump to slides and have never had this problem before  - audio from original slide continues to play after jumping to a new slide - so wonder why this has just started. Any ideas (just for my own education).
At least I now know what to do.
    Many thanks.

  • Button-jump to slides not working

    Hi!
I have created a content menu for my project. Created several
buttons on the same slide. Only the first one works - which links
to the next page. The rest of the buttons don't link to the slides
though I have set it to "jump to slide - 5 slide 5".
    Please advise. Thanks!!

Hi Cherry_t and welcome to our community
I've seen this behavior before. In the case I saw, the user
had inserted question slides that were placed between where the
jump was supposed to go and the slide they were on at the time they
clicked the menu item. You may wonder what this would have to do
with impeding progress. Well, it's not so much the fact you have
Question slides, but if my hunch is correct, you also have enabled
a setting for quizzing that says each question MUST be answered
    before the project can continue.
So take a look at the following setting: Project > Quiz
Manager... > Quiz Settings tab and look at the second field
labeled: Required. My guess is that it may say "Required - the user
must take the quiz to continue".
    Cheers and happy Friday! Rick

  • "Jump to Slide" not working at all

    Version: Captivate 4
    LMS: No
Method of testing: Preview in browser
    Issue:
I am creating a quiz that uses images and click boxes to assess the user's knowledge of MS Word.  Some of the questions involve 2 steps, so that the user has to click one spot on the image and then another on the next image.  However, if the user misses the first step, they should see the next question instead of the second step.
I've set the click-box to "jump to slide ___" but it doesn't  It simply continues on to the next slide.  I thought maybe the slide navigation was overruling the click box navigation, so I set it to "no action", but still no luck.  I also tried setting the click box to "continue" and the slide to do the jump.
It comes down to this:  I cannot get "jump to slide" to work no matter where I set it.  This should be easy - using a built-in function to jump to another slide. I've been doing this since the days of Hypercard in the early 90's.  Why can't this program do this simple function?  My colleague and I are very confused.

    Hi there
A Click Box will only jump to a slide if the user clicks the clickable area. From what you have described, you want the jump to occur if they click outside the area, no?
Note that you may assign a number of attempts. So I'm thinking you want to assign a single attempt to the Click Box. If the user clicks the clickable area, you jump to the next slide. But if they click outside the clickable area, you then want to jump to the other slide.

  • Jump to Slide not working correctly

I created quiz questions in Captivate (5.5) that are interspersed throughout the content and  I want to to jump back to the beginning of the section that contains the relevant content for review if the user gets the question incorrect. I created custom question slides using variables and advanced actions and it seemed to work great.  Now all of a sudden, the [Review] button, which appears if the user gets the question incorrect, does not work. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks Lilybiri,  I know this was posted a while back, but you saved me today!
My quiz scope was preventing my jump to slide from working.  Essentially the quiz scope ends in your deck on the last slide that has a scorable field.  Captivate 5 wasnt allowing me to jump beyond that point from eariler in the deck.  Ex:  My menu was on slide 4.  I had a single scorable click box (for LMS SCORM reasons) on slide 75.  And my last menu item was trying to jump to slide 76.  I found I could not jump to anything beyond 75.  I Simply moved the scorable object to slide 76 (or could have been even further out as needed), and its working again.
If you have nothing scorable, quiz scope shouldn't affect jump to, at least that's been my experience in the past.  You can check using the F9 (advanced interactions) and look in the "Include in quiz" column for the YESs.

  • Continue Buttons & Jump to Slide buttons...

    I have a presentation with 123 slides.
The presentation is a training module that consists of
    submodules.
I have a menubuilder project that launches the main training
    module.
The training module is published as one exe file.
The last slide at the end of each submodule has two text
    buttons:
Continue, which is set to- On success 'Continue'.
Main Menu, which is set to- On success 'Jump to slide' 123
    END,
which is the last slide in the project. Under project
    preferences I
have set the project end options action to close project.
The two buttons work fine in preview mode,
but when published, the continue button works,
but the main menu button does not do anything.
    Did I overlook something?
    Thanks in advance.
    Update- lesson learned?
I had originally created the first two Continue and Main Menu
    buttons on slide 36.
I just copied and pasted the buttons from slide 36 on to the
slides at the other 5 places I needed the two buttons.
I guess this does not work, but I am not sure why. After
remaking the two buttons (in lieu of copy/paste) on the 5
additional needed locations, the presentation works. Is this common
    behavior?
    **********************************************************

I think you'll find this is by design.
Every object inside a Captivate movie has a unique ID.  The slide number and even slide name that you give the slide are just labels assigned to the object. The object's ID is probably some randomly generated number that you never see. So if you've set up a slide action to jump to another slide in the original movie, there's no guarantee such a slide with the same unique ID will exist in the next movie that slide gets copied into.
So the developers of Captivate seem to have designed it so that copying a slide from one project to another will default back to certain settings that are safe.
Additionally, you will find that if you copy a caption or some other slide element from one project to another, Captivate will rename the Item Name.  This is once again to prevent conflicts where more than one item in a movie might end up with the same ID and cause instability.
So, although the way Captivate is designed may mean extra work for you when you copy slides across, it will prevent your movie from becoming corrupted or unstable.

  • Jump to "slides" (& return)

    Hello there,
I'm using captivate 6, I saw a similar question for captivate 2 where the answer was "no"
I've created a project with roughly 50 slides. The user would go through all the slides & then go onto a quiz at the end. But I have created a slide where I want the user the ability to revisit sections of the project (slides 3-9, slides 27-35, etc.) just to go over any section they might not be sure of.
Is there a way to set an action to jump to slide 3-7? (once the user finishes slide 7, jump straight back to my menu page, slide 49 for example)
I’ve tried using "execute advanced actions" with:
    Jump to slide 3
    Go To Next Slide
    Go To Next Slide
    Jump to slide 49
but this does not seem to work, jumping to slide 3 makes my user have to go through the entire project again
our LMS system (at the moment) is not very advanced, so I need to keep everything in the one project.
    is there a solution?
thank you kindly for your time,
    Alex

    Hello,
You don't seem to understand how advanced actions are executed: every command (statement is the term normally) will be executed when the action is triggered by an event. I suppose you trigger this by using a button or another interactive object? Then CP will go to Slide 3, immediately go to the next slide, which is 4, then immediately to the next slide, which is 5 and then jump to 49. So the result of this action will be to go to slide 49. Or didn't you explain well?
    My questions:
where is this menu slide - after the score slide?
do you want them to be able to do the quiz again?
I'm not sure to understand quite well. Those slides have already been visited once, this will be a second visit, right? So you have to track the number of visits, and then you can use advanced actions on Enter of each of the section slides to see if it is a first visit or not. More in detail for the jump to slide 3-9 (will point to it as section 1):
create a user variable v_section1 with a default value of 0
for the Success action of the button Bt_Section1 on the menu slide, to go back to that section, create an advanced standard action with two statements:
    Assign v_section1 with 1
    Jump to slide 3
create a  conditional advanced action to be triggered On Enter of slide 10 which is the first slide after that section (or the On Exit action of slide  if you are sure last frame is visited of that slide)
IF v_section1 is equal to 1Jump to slide Menu    (which is the menu slide)
    ELSEContinue

  • Cannot clear answers in quiz after returning from jump to slide.

Hi, I apologize if this has been answered previously. I couldn't find a thread containing the information.
I recently upgraded from Captivate 6 to 8 (yes, I know...) and when I created the quiz for this project, I have the learners who answer the questions incorrectly going through remediation using the jump to slide on last attempt. The jump to works fine and returning to the quiz works fine. However, when the learner returns to the quiz, the previous incorrect answers are still displayed and the clear button is non-functional. This doesn't allow them to revise their answer and move forward.
I compared it to a similar project that I created in Captivate 6, and it seems that all the options in the quiz preferences and the question's quiz properties are the same, yet it is working properly in the Captivate 6 project (even when previewed in Captivate 8).
Am I overlooking something simple here?
    Thanks!

Indeed, the On Exit event is not to be trusted at all, you need an
interactive object, that gets a double functionality. In the video it has
Continue or Return to Quiz, but you can also use 'Go to Next Slide' instead
of Continue. Sorry that I didn't point immediately to that video. It is
    short but pretty clear.

  • Open file and jump to slide

So now that we have CP4 (well... I have the trial version) is
    it possible to:
Click on a button to open another project AND jump to a slide
    within this newly opened project.
I was hoping that using multiple actions I could specify
"Open Project" and then "Jump to slide"... but no luck so far.
    Cheers,

    Hi KerryWilson
I'm not sure about the "Almighty" part.
Although my perspective of God is quite different
    than most. But I digress...
Since nobody else has jumped on your post, I'll give it a
shot. I figured Steve or one of the others that are more
comfortable with the new scripting features of Captivate 4 might
have a solution. Not sure if the silence means they are busy with
other things or if it simply means it can't be done.
So there might be something you can do using scripting and
variables to accomplish it. Jury is still out on that one.
oddrhythm has posted their question in many places. Different
threads in these forum categories as well as in the new community
help. In one post I did actually offer a possible workaround by
combining JavaScript and variables to accomplish what they wanted.
Seems possible but they are wanting something quite different to
    what you asked about.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Why does "Jump to Slide" action disable the quiz slides?

Here is what I have setup:
I have a Captivate 4 program using AS 2. The program is a total of 23 slides (quizzes and tutorials). The program is broken into 3 lessons with one of the slides set as a menu slide. Each lesson button on the menu jumps to the slide that is the first slide of that lesson. At the end of each lesson I have a completion slide with a menu button that jumps back to the menu slide when it is clicked.
    Here is the problem:
When I start the program and complete any of the lessons and return the menu, none of the question slides work in the remaining lessons. The question slides show up, but the radio buttons and submit button are no longer active on those slides. Its as if the program thinks the slide is complte, but nothing is selected. I have narrowed the problem down to the “Jump to Slide” action that I use on the Menu button in the lesson completion slides. If I would complete the program in a linear way without jumping back to the menu slide I don’t seem to have any problems. The problem seems to only occur when I jump backwards through the slides.
Has anyone else had a similar problem? Is this a bug with Captivate or am I missing something?

    Hi there
The unfortunate fact is that question slides work best if you can place them all in a linear fashion where you move from one to another without ever going backward. We often see posts here where things fail to work when you choose to jump backward and forward in the movie.
Perhaps one workaround would be to force a specific order of progression. Sprinkle the "menu" slide so it follows each segment. That way you could also easily implement something like check marks or a progress indicator to show completion of the segment.

  • Quiz branching / jump to slide broken

    Hi everyone,
First up, I'm using Adobe Captivate 2.0.0
    The problem:
When I try to "jump to slide" on success or failure the project jumps back to frame one for some reason.
Further information and what I've tried:
I've got a Question slide on slide 6, a screen with information about how to answer the question correctly on slide 7, with the next question on slide 8. Slide 6 is set up to jump to slide 8 on success, and go to next slide 7 on failure. Now it works fine when you get it wrong: It just scoots on to the next slide, but whenever I get it right it throws me back to the first frame.
I've tried moving the slides around to different slide numbers, tried giving them slide names, tried previewing from slide 6 (it just jumps back to slide 6 rather than slide 1 when you get the answers right), previewing in Captivate and publishing and previewing published. They all jump you back to the first slide rather than going to slide 8.
Slide 6 and 8 are graded questions while slide 7 is just a regular slide with text on it.
Anyone had this problem before? Any solutions out there?
Sorry if this has been asked before. I did a search through these forums and on the web and didn't really find a similar problem.

Hey, I also encountered this kind of an issue once and finally came to know that I had set a slide enter action on the slide to which I am jumping. Therefore, could you please confirm that on slide 8 (the slide to which you jump when answer is correct on slide 6), does not have any action set 'on slide enter'. If there is an action like jump to slide 1 on slide enter then- When a correct answer is given on slide 6 it jumps to slide 8 and asa it enters slide 8 it jumps to 1st slide.

  • Jump to slide - Button problem

    Hello,
I'm using Captivate 5 on XP.
I have a project with a couple of different chapters. After each chapter I've put a self made question slide, basically just a multiple choice sort of question with 2-4 possible answers. If you click on the correct answer you jump to a slide saying you answered correctly and if you click on the wrong answer you get to a slide saying you answered incorrectly.
After you answer a question correctly you get back to the main menu. The idea is that you complete all the chapters and answer the questions correctly to complete the course.
The problem is with the last chapter and the question in the end. When you try to click on the correct answer nothing happens. When you click on the wrong answers you get to the slide you answered incorrectly. Say you click on the correct answer, you're supposed to jump to slide X, but instead it continues to the next slide.
I have tried to create a new button and also tried to create an advanced action saying "jump to slide X". Same result.
The thing is that it always happen to the last chapter, not necessarily the last one in the list. Say I start from the buttom and work my way up the list of chapters, the problem is always with the last chapter you try to finish.
Any idea of what the problem could be?
    Kind regards,
    Patrik

I'll see if I can explain it better.
Slide 1 starts and plays text and graphics. It runs for 15 seconds. After 15 seconds, my Back and Next buttons appear. The user can then proceed to Slide 2.
Slide 2 starts and plays text and graphics. It runs for 20 seconds. After 20 seconds, my Back and Next buttons appear.
Let's say the user hits the Back button on Slide 2. They are then taken back to Slide 1.
I don't want them to have to watch Slide 1's contents (15 seconds) all over again.
If the user moves again to Slide 2 by hitting the Next button (on Slide 1), I don't want them to have to watch Slide 2 (20 seconds) all over again. They have seen slide 2's information already. I want them to see the Next button right away.
Basically this....if a user has been through a slide before, I don't want them to have to watch it all over again.

  • Jump to slide option not available for button Adobe 5.5

    Hi,
I am creating a frequently asked questions page using Adobe Captivate 5.5.  I am using buttons for each question (currently 8 button questions on the slide).  I would like to set the button to jump to another slide with the answer so the user gets the answer by clicking on the button question.  However in properties the jump to slide... option is gray while all other options work.
Does anyone know how to allow this option or can anyone offer suggestions for achieving the same results in a different way?
    Thanks,
    Sandra

oh dear I should have realized !!!!  Thanks!!!!!!!

  • Jump to slide-not jumping.

I'm adding question slides throughout my project and when I
choose "Jump to slide" for a wrong answer, it won't jump. I am able
to jump if I set the quiz preferences to do so, but I don't want to
set it up that way because the slide I need to jump to is going to
change based on the question being asked. I've only been using
version 3 for a couple of weeks now so I haven't quite figured out
    all the tricks. Any ideas?

Name your target slides and see if that helps. It rather
sounds like you might be using random selection in your quizzes, so
if you are jumping to a slide "number", you are trying to hit a
    moving target.
Also, check to be sure you haven't disallowed backward
movement in the Quiz preferences. That is less likely to be your
    problem but worth a look.
    regards~
    Larry
