Jumpy footage in CS4 PP - is it my system?

This is probably so basic, it will be embarrasing, but I'm new to all this...
When viewing HD video footage from a Canon 60D (.mov files) at 1920x1080 25fps or 1280x720 50fps in CS4 Premiere Pro, the footage does not run smoothly, just jumps along the timeframe like the computer can't process the info quick enough (the sound is there though). However, the footage runs perfectly ok when I run it on Quicktime (not QT Pro) on the same laptop, sound-synched.
Here's my system:
Macbook
Processor: 2GHz Intel Core Duo
Memory: 2 GB 1067 Mhz DDR3
Hard Drive: 87gb space
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
VRAM 256MB
x1 1tb Western DIgital Elements external hard drive
x1 2tb Western Digital Elements external hard drive
both 7200rpm and running through usbs via hub to laptop
No RAID devices (I keep reading about this but have no idea what it means)
1.Do I need a new graphics card? And if so what is recommended, and is it something that sits externally or do I have to install it?
2.Do I have enough RAM to run this application?
3.Is the way I've set up the system correct?
3.Is compatability with the camera an issue?
4.Is this going to cost me a fortune to fix?
5.Finally, I haven't got there yet, but I will be using the other applications in CS4 Creative Suite - am I going to find similar problems?

Tried adobe media encoder. Didn't work. Downloaded other trial converters. None of them worked. In the end stumped up £35 for single incident support from Adobe.
They were brilliant. They spent several hours over a couple of days trying different things - they were always convinced there shouldn't be a problem, depspite my low-end system.
In the end all I needed to do was put chosen footage in timeline, then select "sequence", then "render effects in work area" from drop down menu. It proceeds to render all clips in the timeline - and hey presto! Smooth FULL HD footage from a Canon 60D.
Also, when you're creating the project, you need to set presets to AVCHD 1080p 25fps (or whatever you're footage was shot in: 720p 50fps etc.)
So it wasn't my system that was the problem.

Can no longer import mp4 (XDCAM) footage into CS4

Hopefully somebody will be able to help me with this!
I am trying to import some Sony EX1 (mp4) footage into Premiere CS4, but am getting the following error message:
“file import failure: Error message – the importer reported a generic error”
I have done this process on many occasions over the last year or so and experienced no problems whatsover.
But for some reason I am no longer able to import the mp4 files...or even access these file types in historic projects!
I have checked the footage in the Sony clip browser in it seems fine, and plays fine when opened with a VLC player, so am a bit stumped to what the problem could be.
(For info, I am using a PC with 8gb RAM and a Quadro CX. I did have After Effects installed a month ago back and switched to VISTA. All Adobe updates have been installed, and I have sufficient memory)

Of course using Premiere CS3 I have the problem of the audio constantly cutting out on the XDCAM MP4 files, so I really could do with a solution to this problem in CS4 asap - can anyone else help?
It is definitely a new problem for me, which almost certainly revolves around the impoter process. It did not affect my editing until 2-3 months ago but suddenly now renders CS4 Premiere more or less useless, on both on my laptop and my main PC.
It is possible that the problem only affects projects where one of the XDCAM files is very long and/or was originally saved across two separate cards at the time of recording. In which case it may not be a new problem, simply one I had not encountered before because I'd notg used any such long files.

How to import 30p 1920x1080 footage into cs4

Hi,
I shot some footage using my canon hf20 in 30p, at 1920x1080. when i open a new sequence i don't see a setting for 1920x1080 30p under AVCHD.
at first i was going to use the XDCAM HD preset since it's the only one i see that has 30p, but i realized that it's 1440x1080, not 1920x1080.
how else to import 30p 1920x1080 into premiere CS4?
1) will the 1080i30 (60i) setting preserve the 30p progressive footage (even though the option is listed in premiere pro under 1080 interlaced)?
2) or is the only way to edit 30p progressive at 1920x1080 is to select the AVCHD 1080p 24p setting and change the frame rate to 29.97?
3) or is there some other trick altogether?

thanks for the replies. so does the 1080i30 (60i) setting do some kind of de-interlacing on 30p footage, even if it's not native and it's wrapped in 60i (like it is in the canon hf20)? or does the camera do that automatically?

Capturing footage into CS4

Hi there,
I am attempting to capture HD footage from my SOny HDR HC5E into Premier CS4 on my mac book pro.
Each time I capture it, the footage comes up as offline and there is always an error each time I capture it.
ANy suggestions?

Ah, of course it was a simple matter of the i link settings on the camera. Basically I just had to change the 'i link conv' button to 'OFF'.

Import CS3 AVI Footage into CS4

I'm trying to import some footage that I captured on my PC in CS3, into my Mac in CS4. When I open the project that was created in CS3 (PC), on my CS3 (Mac) it comes through fine. But when I convert the project and open it in CS4 (Mac), it wants to render all of the footage in the timeline. Which means the sequence settings aren't matching the footage. Even though the sequence settings are the same as those I used in CS3. Not sure what's going on.
Reason I capture the footage on my PC to begin with is because CS3 and CS4 still will not capture my DVX-100 24p footage correctly on a Mac. So this is my only solution at the time being. I have 34 hours of AVI footage that I'd really like to edit in CS4. Any help would be much appreciated!

Not sure why the properties show that the clip is 29.97fps, becuase when I single click a clip it shows up as 23.976 up above. Any advice would be MUCH appreciated!

Importing RED camera footage into CS4

I've downloaded a plug in for CS4 and all the other RED camera footage imported in fine (9 out of 10 files) expect for the last file. Here's a picture of the file names:
When I try to import these files (either through file > import) or Media Browser I get the message that the file format is not supported. Does anybody have any idea of what I could do?

I finally got back to my office and was able to send JIm a screenshot of the issue as the file was too big to send (1GB).
The file marked A010_C001_10172V_001.R3D is the one that should import into Premiere Cs4 but as you can tell from the screen shot above, it will not.
Any help will be appreciated.

How do you fix jumpy footage?

I formatted and built a DVD and played my short film. It played with no troubles.
I needed to make some changes to the footage so I went back to FCP, resized a few clips and compressed it using the same method I used before.
This time when I formatted and built the DVD there were a lot of areas that came out very jumpy.
What can I do to resolve this?

when you rebuilt your DVD project files, did you start with a new, empty set of folders or did DVD offer you chance to "reuse" some existing files?

Panasonic GH1 - presets - jumpy footage

I have combed the internet looking for which preset to use with the GH1 in CS5. Does anyone know?
I know the documentation for CS5 says that GH1 support is available using the AVCHD presets. Nothing specifically says what to use though. The manual for the GH1 says that the footage is 1080i with "sensor output" of 24fps...what does that mean? Does that mean I should use 1080 24p?
My main problem is that my exported footage bounces which seems very similar to http://forums.adobe.com/message/2828936; however, I do not know which preset to use.
So, does anyone use a GH1 with FHD footage and which preset or settings do you use?

Apologies I'm referring from straight from a folder off the desktop into the project panel. It'd only allow me to drop it as a clip within the project panel but not onto the NEW ITEM button.
Well you mentioned bin folder, are you referring to FILE > IMPORT > Video Clip ? Because that also won't allow me to drag and drop rather simply opening it brings the clip into the project panel similar what I mentioned above.

What sequence do I fit this too? I'm curently using the Widescreen 48kHz (DV - NTSC) preset sequence [trial and error] with a video export format of H.264 HDTV 720p 29.97 HQ and by trial and error this export format doesn't give me a shaky video, most of the rest do besides one other which I can't remember. However, I'm not satisfied because my exported video appears slightly blurred after export.
EDIT: Well I've improved the shaking and blur problem by using a more appropriate sequence settings. If the drag and drop doesn't work it doesn't concern yet!

FW CS4 too Slow on 64bits systems

Has someone with this problem?
I downloaded the update for text engine and it's OK! But the SW continuous with very slow save works, and other things. It's almost impossible to work becouse the tools have 3 or 4 seconds of delay. Write text, after clicking with the text tool on the stage, I need wait 3 or 4 seconds.

I'm on windows 7 RC 64bits, but on Vista 64 still slow. The version of XP 64 is so poor that I minimized
And yes, my laptop have no virus, spy or something like that. Has more than 150GB of free space.
Adobe will launch some version of FW 64bits as Photoshop CS4?

I cna't speak for the 64 bit Vista, as I am using 32, and all is fine. Hopefully, other users can assist you there.
But as for Windows 7, I doubt things will be 100% since you dealing with an older app (Fw) on a newer OS (Win7).

CS2 & CS4 Extended on the same system

I have downloaded the CS4 Extended Trial but did not uninstall CS2 before doing so. Can these both exist on the same system without issues?

Photoshop CS4 will not open after system upgrade to Mac OSX Yosemite

I recently upgraded to Mac OSX Yosemite and unfortunately, my Photoshop CS4 will not open. The message says it requires Java SE6. I now have Java 7 update 71. I would appreciate suggestions from anyone who can help to resolve this problem. Thank you.

CS4 and Case Sensitive File Systems

Does anyone know if CS4 will support case sensitive file systems?

While I do wish all software companies including Apple completely
supported the case-sensitive file system. Many don't. I cannot pull up
an article, but I remember reading that Apple only recommended the use
of the case-sensitive file system for OS X server and if memory serves
even for that it only recommended it for the attached hard drives.
We can lament the lack of support but if you really want to change the
status quo for Adobe products then the only useful way to do so is:

I have purchased a CS4 suite and have downloaded from the website, which has been installed in my old computer (with windows XP system). Currently I replaced my old computer, my new computer is with a Windows 7 system. I have copied all the files I downloaded and saved in my old computer to the new one. When I tried to install them, I got the error code is : Error 5.

CS4 installer hangs on "checking system profile" and posted answers don't work

I had a disk corruption of some sort and fixed with Disk Warrior but Creative Suite 4 would not run on a G5 PowerPC running Leopard 10.5x. I kept getting a request that my demo had expired but I have a legal version. Adobe uninstaller wouldn’t work, so I trashed everything that I could find relating to adobe including stuff in library. When I ran installer, the problem “checking system profile…” hung up when about 90% done checking the hard disk. There are a lot of posts about this and I tried several suggestions online but none worked including making new user, booting up in Safe Mode or Root user, modifying file called ContainerProxy.js (e.g. http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407428.html), running AdobeCreativeSuiteCleanerTool, disconnecting form internet, etc. Is there a fix for this since wasting a lot of time for something that should be trivial.

It's Design Premium CS4
Oops, I meant to post this here but put on another post, so here it is:
After more searching I found a fix that seemed to work but my experience not completely identical as before (http://forums.adobe.com/message/2236990#2236990)
I right clicked on the setup package, choose "show package contents"
double clicked the mac osx folder, double clicked setup from there and got a message that process was already running and to quit which I did in Terminal which had opened when I clicked on setup. That quit the installer which was hung up as before. I double-clicked the setup in the package contents again, and a new terminal window came up, I entered admin pw which was requested, and then installer ran in Terminal and got a window to enter my (legal) serial number; installer then read DVD installer disks. Here is log of successful terminal session (username is Tucana):

Problems opening CS2 ai files in CS4 under Snow Lep op system

I am finding I can't open files created in CS2 with CS4. I didn't have any problem on the PC but on the Mac the files won't open. The operating system is Snow Lepoard. Anyone have any ideas as why this is happening? They are 165 mb files but I never had any problems on the PC so my guess is it is the new Mac op.

I feel like they'll work. Worst case, maybe I can pay someone a few bucks to throw them into AI and change to compatibility mode if I have any problems.
I did work with an artist's CS4 files when I was on CS2 and the only thing it seemed to do was add a couple of weird paths. So if you selected all the items in a piece of vector art and it set the frame around it to show the selection, it would include an area of white space, normally below the artwork because there was some random point down there -- deleting it solved that problem... Hopefully it's the worst thing that will happen.
