Jumpy touchpad when I scroll after some updates on Thinkpad S440

Hello everybody
Yesterday I ran some updates and since then I have a touchpad issue. It automatically jumps when I scroll down or up. Sometimes, when I scroll down a PDF or a webpage it goes automatically to the end.
This is a very annoying issue. My Thinkpad is new and clean and this issue came after some updates.
I am thinking the problem might be due of:
- Synaptics UltraNav driver update (16.6.4.38)
- Auto Scroll Utility (2.10)
I don't know a lot, if someone has the same issue or know the solution I would be nice to add your experience
Thank you.

I also agree that it would be nice for a warning if the updateConfig.xml file does not exist, or if it is not formatted properly. For example, I change my app ID before publishing and forgot to update the config file resulting in me having to submit yet another version - from a human factors standpoint, these errors will occur from time to time so any help on the machine-side would be useful.
Additionally, it would be nice to have the option to remove/hide any apps that have been withdrawn from the 'Manage' screen.
All-in-all though, I think you guys are doing a great job!

  • After some updates, Aperture stops recognizing previously imported files, and rewrites video metadata dates.  How do I keep the from occurring?

I have been using Aperture since version 1 (to now, 3.x.x), and after some updates Aperture fails to recognize the files previously imported.  I have checked the selection box that says "Do not import duplicates" every time I import.  I have pics and videos dating back to 2001 in the Aperture dB.  Videos were imported once Ap started to support it.  (Well, the initial support was really bad...)  Anyway, those earlier video files all have the same date - now - thanks to Aperture changing the dates to 3/24/00.  The funny thing is, Aperture will not let me manually correct the dates.  To me, it seems that after every major update, the dB gets "reset" and forgets files already imported.  I'm not saying pics/vids imported in the last month, but say six months to five years or more.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
I do not think this matters, hoever, my Ap is set up with referenced original on an external drive.
    Thank you!

    WOW!
I'm REALLY impressed by your exhaustive and detailled description!
How long did it take to write? Sure longer than the import itself...
Thank you so much. I got a working import of Ap2 lib before but your description have me various hints for handling problematic or faulty projects.

  • My T400 won't stay in sleep or hibernate after some update

Howdy.........a couple of weeks ago I applied some updates to my T400 through Thinkvantage maybe......honestly I don't remember.  But it was recommended updates for my machine to things like Power Manager and Access Connections.
After I did that, I've run into some issues I did not have before and am very frustrated with!
The main one I think relates to Power Manager.  I'm at v3.6.4 now.  No idea what I was at before.  I like to have the machine set up to go into hibernate when I close the lid.  It does that.....but immediately after it resumes 99.9% of the time.  Same is true if I select 'hibernate' from the start logo.  I have idle timers to put it into sleep after so many minutes and hibernate after so many more.  But when it does, it immediately resumes.  So it's an endless cycle.
I've made sure that "Wake on" is off in the bios and in the network adapter settings.
The other issue I have is that after the 0.1% of the time that it stays in hibernate, when I come back to resume, my external monitor (I extend my desktop across the Thinkpad and an external monitor) is not recognized as what it is but instead is listed as "Generic PnP monitor" and is unusable because it just shows "Out of range" and "60Hz" on the monitor.  Only rebooting fixes that from what I can tell.
I've since tried reinstalling the monitor's driver, downloading and reinstalling Power Manager manually......no changes.  Has anyone else had this difficulty or just know how to fix it?  I'm going crazy with it.....
    Matt

    hey mplehning,
    welcome to the forums.
try uninstalling all ThinkVantage software and drivers from your system.
see if you're able to put your unit into sleep/ hibernate mode.
then install each software one by one and test after each installation on whether your unit can be place into sleep/hibernate mode.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Does anyone know why the mouse would stop scrolling after latest OS X update?
    Currently using V 10.8.5

While the article states that it is for Lion, this applies for Mountain Lion, as well. You may need to check that scrolling is enabled in the Accessibility pane of System Preferences.

  • Touchpad gets stuck scrolling after resume.

Hi, I have an acer V3-571G, running 3.10.15-1-lts (though this issue happens with the current stable kernel also).
Basically, if the laptop suspends and resumes, often it will get stuck in "scroll" mode, as if I already have a finger on it.
The current solution is to restart X but obviously this is quite tiresome if I'm trying to do some work.

ke7mbz wrote:It seems like, at least in my case, that it thinks I'm touching the touchpad with two fingers instead of one, and therefore tries to scroll. Do you have two finger scrolling enabled.
Yeah, two finger scrolling enabled and exactly the same behaviour after freezing.
ke7mbz wrote:I'm wondering if it's caused by a particular combination of touchpad options. That's why I asked about the DE. KDE offers alot more options than Gnome via synaptiks.
IIRC, when I still used Linux Mint, I had this problem with all DEs I worked with: Mate, Xfce and Cinnamon. With Arch I've used Xfce and mainly i3, same problem on both of them. Always with two finger scrolling on.
Sharing this information for helping OP and others, modprobe commands are enough for me even though I'm interested in the deeper reasons of this bug.

When you copy 10-evdev.conf file into /etc/X11 you completly override previous system configuration. It's the reason copying synaptics configuration file into /etc/X11 fixes the issue
Defining default system configuration in /etc/X11 with previous xorg was a mistake, now it's fixed.
Wiki should be fixed. It's not a packaging bug, but a configuration bug.
    @lordheavy
I agree with you that the new xf86-input-synaptics package is using the right configuration scheme, however it is breaking the functionality on every installed system. It was a packaging bug, which is now fixed, but it has to be handled manually by most users of previous versions. That's why I won't re-open the bug report FS#41589. Instead, I am asking here: shouldn't this change be notified to the users just like it has been done for most breaking changes on archlinux frontpage news?
By the way, thanks for your great work.

  • Satellite L650 - Touchpad won't disable after BIOS Update

    Hello,
    I've recently got a new laptop, a L650-1CN,
I run the various kinds of software from Toshiba, and one of them is Tempro,
It shows me messages when a new update is available.
Today I got saw the message that a new BIOS update v.1.80 was available.
I downloaded it, and installed it. After installing my laptop shut down. Then I booted it again.
But after a few minutes I noticed that my touchpad didn't disable itself anymore.
I usually use a logitech wireless mouse.
Now I'm wondering if I should do a system recovery and not install this BIOS update, or find another solution to fix this. Because it's really annoying.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi buddy,
Usually the touchpad disable it automatically if an external mouse is connected but only if you enable this option in touchpad settings.
I also use an external mouse from Logitech and have activated this option. You can find it in control panel > mouse. Go to tab Device Settings and mark the option Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached.
    I hope it works :)

  • Lost touch "scroll" after windows updates installed

after todays cumulative update for windows 10 was installed, i lost touch scroll/swipe functions.  listed in Windows update along with the cumulative patch was an item named "eGalaxtouch - other hardware-usb controller a802).seeing as there is no way to deselect it, it was installed with the cumullative patch.  however right after the install, touch scorlling and swiping are non functional. anyone else run into this?  any workaround/fixes for this issue??  i did a system restore to just before the update, which gave me back full functions.  But windows is again automatically downloading and installing both updates again!  there is no way to choose which updates to install, nor opt out of.does HP have an updated driver for touch???  when the windowsupdate installs that "egalaxytouch" update, the touchscreen is useless.  and with auto updating, it's a literal install/uninstall loop. i'm starting to regret upgrading to windows10.  and with that said, has anyone tried the "roll back to prior version" option in recovery?  it's valid for only 30days.  i am thinking of going back but am wondering if anyone was successful running that recovery before i try it myself.

No fix as far as i'm aware. my last post is just a workaround until the driver issue is sorted out.  It's not so much that you need a driver for this to work. You have to roll back the offending driver so that we can use the last good driver. And yes, i bbelieve that W10 will install updates as it pleases unless you have W10 Pro. W10 Pro can at least defer updates. I'm hoping that a fixed update comes soon so i don't have to defer them for too long. I miss the old 'Hide update' option from before.  But as i said, this is just a workaround so you can get your updates then roll back the driver.  As mentioned by another poster , this may help for just now. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930 I haven't tried it myself.

  • [SOLVED] Gnome3 looks and behaves differently now, after some update

    Hello,
I am using Arch Linux on my Dell XPS 15 laptop. I have the latest NVIDIA drivers installed (using the manual shell script). Today I logged into my system after a few days, and found that gnome 3 was looking quite different from what I had used before. Specifically,
    1. I see "Applications" and "Places" on the top left in the menu bar (earlier I only saw "Applications").
    2. I have to click on Applications to get a drop down menu in the old style (Gnome 2) format.
    3. I cannot take the mouse to the top left of the screen and get the mosaic of icon launchers anymore.
    4. I now see a "taskbar" (Windows style) at the bottom of my screen, and a workspace icon set on the bottom right of my screen from which I can switch workspaces.
    5. I can no longer re-start the shell using Alt+F2 and r. When I press Alt+F2, I get a dialog box which is similar to the Gnome 2 dialog box.
    6. The only status icons I can see clearly are those for the wireless and the battery. The volume control and bluetooth icons show up only when I mute or unmute the speaker using the icon control, and the
I remembered installing and removing the gnome-shell-extension-user-theme-git and gnome-shell-extension-user-common-git packages, so I removed them with yaourt and then did an rm -rf of the .themes directory. I restarted Gnome but this did not help.
I'm sort of lost now that I am logging into my system after so many days. So I'd appreciate help on how to restore Gnome back to the standard Gnome3 and roll back any changes that might have occurred since.
    Thanks in advance!

It could be that you have Forced Fallback activated for some reason. If reinstalling the graphics drivers mentioned above does not work, try going to your System Settings > System Info > Graphics. Make sure that Forced Fallback Mode is OFF.

  • Email doesn't work on Z10 when sending attachment after software update on Telus, Gmail but works on live.ca

Having my Telus email refusing to send attachment (one meg picture), without attachment everything is OK, can receive attachments.  Weird thing is my live.ca account works perfectly.  All that happens is the clock and sending icon would alternate (left it for a couple of hours - still the same). Same result using Wi-Fi or LTE, 4G. So called tech support @ Telus and they have no solution and have two Z10 with same problem sending attachment but on Gmail account.  They are sending a ticket to Blackberry to see if problem can be resolved.
Emails were working perfectly before software ugrade three days ago. Anyone else having these issues?  Ideas to resolve?

FINALLY, after TWO full months of waiting and checking every day, the problem has been resolved.  I'm disappointed that Blackberry took so long to fix, but happy that my email can finally send attachments. Also disappointed that I was not notified of the fix by my provider Telus (which they said they would). Hopefully the problem is permanently resolved and won't re-appear after another software update.

  • Windows 8.1 freezes when playing silverlight after windows updates

    Hi
Silverlight has been working fine for years. Yesterday 36 windows updates were installed (and took more than half an hour to complete).
Following the update if I go to a page in internet explorer with a sliverlight movie the whole operating system freezes and I have to reboot. This is not just Netflix (which still works fine in Chrome). It also happened with a test movie on a MS Silverlight
    site.
I used your fixit wizard to no avail. I also manually uninstalled Silverlight and reinstalled it and cleared all caches, also without success.
I also noticed (you would after having to reboot 7 times) that rebooting takes an awfully long time just to get to the log in screen now, with over 30 seconds looking at a black screen prior to the first blues screen. I seem to remember MS heralding this
    as a quick boot OS
    Kind regards
    Jonathan
    jc

    Following on:
ran sfc,ex /scannow and it checked the system file but did not stop the pc from freezing
I uninstalled Internet Explorer 11 and reinstalled it and tried Silverlight again and the pc froze again.
I think the only sensible solution is to uninstall Internet Explorer 11 and start using chrome from now on.
Wish I could do that with the OS too.
Thanks for all your help guys.

    hi
i am using developer 6i and i did a form which includes masters and details blocks
when i create a record for the master and detail and save it , then it saves , and if i make any changes on the detail block for the first time and save it saves , but if i make changes for the second time and save it gives me
    ora-03114 not connected to oracle
if any one knows what is causing the problem, then let me know please. Thanks

    Hi
    This is very strange...
What if u re-connect to oracle form ...? is same problem occured ?
1.Pls check any trigger block level as post-update and other related...
2.Remove any un-necessary triggers u thought they r ignored by ur forms but they almost causes unexpected problems...!
3.pls share us the code u have in key-commit or post-commit trigger , etc.
or remove it temporary just for test purposes compile , generate and run.
    Hope this helps...
