Jumpy/Wonky GPS on iPhone 5?

When I use RunKeeper on my new iPhone 5 the GPS track is all wonky. Even though I walk (or jog) straight down the sidewalk the GPS information has me jumping all over the place. And it isn't just RunKeeper because I have tried several apps and they all show the same wonky track. See the attached screenshots. These are two programs that I had running at the same time (one ran for my entire walk, one for just part of my walk). Find the "1 mile" mark on the RunKeeper screenshot, that same jump in the track can be found at exactly the same spot on the other screenshot. This tells me this is not a problem with the apps, it is a hardware or iOS problem.
This has happened several places in suburban Austin, TX. This is outdoors on neighborhood streets so there isn't any issue with line-of-sight to the sky.
Any thoughts as to what would make my GPS act like this? Is this indicative of a bad GPS unit? Thanks for all of the help!
Matthew

Update: Saw an Apple Genius today and she said that she thinks it is because my Springboard was crashing constantly. She did a firmware update and that did seam to fix it, however she recommended that I didn't restore from my backup as that may be what is causing it. Well, if you think I am going to redownload all 250 of my apps, you have another thing coming for you! Am about to do a restore and see if my Springboard continues to crash...

  • "Import GPS from iPhone" no longer working with iPhone 4 & 4S

    Hi-
Since upgrading to the Iphone 4, the Import GPS from Iphone function has ceased to work.  The phone appears on the import screen, and photos can be imported sucesfully (and the GPS data is embedded correctly on the photo), but when you go to the places window and go to the import gps from iphone function, the window opens like it's trying to bring up the photos but nothing appears.
This bug continues with the 4S.  This function worked fine with my Iphone 3.
Has anyone found a work around for this?  I'm surprised this bug has yet to be fixed.
    Thanks
    Matt

I have the same problem the screen is show something like this:

In other way i want to use it to create an slideshow that scroll the map showing the photos, it is possible?

    Thanks...

  • Is it possible to get GPS in iPhone 4s in remote area w/o cel&Wi Fi service ?

Is it possible to get GPS  for iPhone 4s in remote area lacking cel or WiFi service?

The iPhone includes a GPS receiver that can function without the iPhone having cellular service. The iPhone uses A-GPS or assisted GPS using cellular towers or wi-fi to help speed up the initial GPS location from a cold start.
If using a GPS app that does not store map data locally on the iPhone - map data must be downloaded, if the iPhone does not have internet access with such an app, having GPS acquisition won't be much good.

  • AVIC-F700BT GPS and Iphone 3G

I paired my GPS with Iphone with not problems, but when I tried to download all the contacts from Iphone to GPS via Bluetooth, it caused my GPS to freeze. I have the latest firmware available from Pioneer.
I have a Palm Treo 700p with no issues pairing and syncing all my contacts.
Does any boday have the same issue?
Do you know if they are compatible?
    Have any one made work?

    Hey Halo360,
The iPhone is designed to pair with bluetooth headsets or car kits only.
There is a iPhone feedback page where you can request additional iPhone features.

  • Gps on iPhone

Is anyone else having trouble getting gps on their iphone? is there something that has to be turned on? i hit the location search and all i get is the blue circle at my location but no blue blimp. any suggestions?

You do indeed need a clear view of the sky for GPS to work. Iphone can estimate your location ffom cell signal and wi-fi locator if you do not have a clear view of the sky. This is from the Apple website:
"In addition to A-GPS, iPhone 3G uses signals from GPS satellites, Wi-Fi hot spots, and cellular towers to get the most accurate location fast. If GPS is available, iPhone displays a blue GPS indicator. But if you’re inside — without a clear line of sight to a GPS satellite — iPhone finds you via Wi-Fi. If you’re not in range of a Wi-Fi hot spot, iPhone finds you using cellular towers. And the size of a location circle tells you how accurately iPhone is able to calculate that location: The smaller the circle, the more accurate the location."

  • "Import GPS from iPhone photos" does not work with iPhone 4

I have not been able to get A3's "Import GPS from iPhone photos" to work with my iPhone 4, I get an empty list of photos. A3 is able to import photos from iPhoto 4 without any problems but I'm not able to get the GPS data.
I'm not sure if it is an iPhone 4 or iOS4 issue, I tried my old iPhone 2G and "Import GPS from iPhone photos" is working fine.

Where are you seeing this "Import GPS from iPhone" option?? I just tried importing a picture directly from my iPhone ,and it correctly had its place marked on the Places map. Am I misunderstanding what you all are trying to do??

  • Jumpy video playback from iPhone 5 to Mac Book Pro

    Hi
I recently took some footage on my iPhone 5 and downloaded onto my 2007 Mac Book Pro via iPhoto. Unfortunately, mid download iPhoto became unresponsive and I had to Force quit.
After restarting iPhoto I saw that the videos had not been downloaded so I started the process again. It was a seemingly successful download so I deleted the videos from my iPhone.
Upon playback all the video's are jumpy. Other older video's all ready in the library are fine.
It seems all the info is in there as each time I play a video back I see different parts of the video ie: the jumps are not all in the same place each time.
    Is it a playback 780 v 1080 issue?
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Mark

  • How does GPS in iPhone 4 & 4S work?

I am an AT&T 2GB data connection subscriber and will be cross-province touring in Quebec, Canada. I am debating on whether to get a portable GPS receiver or use my iPhone to get directions and map layout.
Does the iPhone GPS require data connection to the network provider to get map directions? If data connection is required to obtain maps, what iOS application allows downloading of maps for off-line use by the app to provide mapping directions in conjunction with the GPS?
    Thanks.

When the iPhone is activated, an activation fee is charged. None of the iPhone functions work with a new iPhone until the iPhone is activated with AT&T except for being able to place an emergency 911 call.
and what's the one month's service about?
When an iPhone that is purchased at the no-commitment or no-contract price, it is activated with AT&T on a post-paid/monthly billed basis as with an iPhone that is purchased with a two year contract but is on a month to month basis. Service can be cancelled at any time without an an early contract termination fee since there is no contract, but if service is cancelled during the first month or on the next day after the iPhone is activated, you will be billed for one month - for the chosen calling plan and data plan which is required along with the iPhone's activation fee.

All new and current iPhone customers who are upgrade eligible, plus existing customers who choose to upgrade early must agree to a two-year term commitment, and select an eligible voice and data plan for iPhone. *No Commitment pricing does not require a two-year term commitment, but does require both voice and data service.*

  • Have others noticed accuracy of gps in iPhone degrade with ios5.01?

Since I upgraded my iPhone 4 with ios5.01 the gps function in things like map it seems much worse. It used to be very good before upgrade.  It says to turn on wifi to improve accuracy but that is of no use when in car.  I like others have also seen battery life degrade and I have seen fixes for that but any thoughts on the gps accuracy?  Thanks,

You need to transfer your iTunes library from your old computer to your new computer per the instructions included with this link.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751
If you don't do this per the instructions included with the link, all iTunes content on your iPhone will be erased with the first sync. If you haven't transferred photos from your old computer to your new, any photos on your iPhone that were transferred from your previous computer will be erased when selecting to transfer any photos from your new computer.
Not sure how cancelling a sync with iTunes and importing photos/videos from the Camera Roll with iPhoto could have an effect on your GPS reception and location services.

  • Does GPS on iphone work witout a cell tower...

I am currently in india and iphone is unable to locate me on Google maps. Is this okay? I thought iPhones uses any one or a combination of GPS/Cell Towers/WiFi hotspots to locate itself.

I recently had a cell free couple of days (in the Peak Distrcit in the middle of the UK, as it happens). I have a third party GPS app which tracked my progress, and when I found a GSM or wifi signal the app downloaded the maps and it became clear where I'd been. So you could use that if you want to know where you have been. If you want to know where you are, you can use the GPS co-ordinates with a paper map.

  • Gps in iphone 4 not working

I have an iPhone 4 whose GPS is misbehaving.  I use the latest version of Navigon, and it always loses the GPS signal and puts me in the wrong place on the map.  I have also checked the GPS location in the standard Maps app, same result.  This began a couple of months ago with no warning.  The phone had been on iOS 5.1.1 since the update released, hasn't been damaged by liquid or impact.  It just, well, fizzled.  Quite frustrating.  I have already tried a restore from backup and a restore as new.  Any ideas?  HELP!!!

The iPod Touch does NOT have GPS circuitry and consequently the GPS satellites can not be accessed.  Here is a mini-education.  The last paragraph gives you a solution.
GPS signals are separate from and completely unrelated to both the Internet and the cellular telephone network.  GPS signals come directly from the GPS satellites.  They provide latitude and longitude information to GPS receivers.  Navigation software then takes that latitude/longitude info and converts it to land mass, roads, bridges, highways, buildings, etc.
Most navigation software stores the maps right in the iPad/iPod/iPhone but a disadvantage is that the maps must be periodically updated (perhaps once every two years).  The Internet is not required to use the system but it is required to update the maps.
Some navigation software gets the maps from the Internet and requires an Internet connection to function but an advantage is that the maps are always up-to-date.
The WiFi+3G/4G iPad and the iPhone both have a GPS receiver.  The WiFi-only iPad and the iPod do not and these devices require an accessory.

  • Potential bug with gps in iphone 3g?

    Hey guys,
So I got my 16gig black iphone today. Everything was working fine, internet, maps, even the gps, until this evening. Sometimes, when I tell maps to locate me, the thing uses the triangulation to triangulate me to close to houston, texas. Now I live on the east coast, so this thing is definetely off. Also, when it was in that stage, waiting a little while and pressing the locate me again did nothing--no retriangulation or the little blue gps point showing up, it was stuck in texas. I tried everything, from resetting the default settings to hard resets (holding down the button on top), but it just wouldnt go back. Sometimes, the little blue circle thing that spins also sits there for a long time spinning, never triangulating anything. The 3g internet still works, along with all the other apps that use the internet.
    Heres where it gets interesting.
I decided to turn of the 3g and use edge only. That has worked perfectly every time so far--It triangulates correctly and gps point shows up. I also tried wifi and that too has worked every time. but when I turn 3g back on, sometimes it will work but then suddenly, it stops working again.
Also, about once or twice, the 3g stops working all together(cant access internet on 3g or maps dont load). Again, I turn off and on the 3g in the settings and it starts working again. Im thinking that this is some sort of software bug since I have seen the triangulation problem on 2 other separate iphones (both 16gig blacks also btw). But this could also be some sort of major hardware problem too.
Maybe others should try turning off and on 3g and trying with edge and 3g to see if triangulation works. As of right now, the triangulation and gps are both working for me.
I have tried this inside and out and it makes no diff. Right now it is working inside, but sometimes it doesnt and the same for being outside. Also, one phone had apps and the other didnt, and both had problems, so i dont think it has to do with apps. Also, I have not tried the newer firmware on itunes yet.
Also, Ive read that other people having this problem also triangulate to texas. Whats with that? is that some default location or is something off with att?
Sorry for the long post but I just wanted to be detailed.

I am in the UK and I have no problems with GPS on my 16GB iPhone 3G when 3G is on, but it only seems to find my location if I am on the move! As soon as I am stationary outside it seems to default to 24th Street, Newport Beach, CA! If I get in my car start to drive and click on locate me, it will find me and track me the whole journey. It will also work as I reach my destination for about 5 minutes when suddenly the blue pin is gone after the screensaver comes on and by clicking on the locate button, it defaults back to California. Switching 3G off and then trying the locate button, it will spin forever or default me to CA. Also found that the locate me button seriously drains the battery, which is to be expected as it is working it's little balls of trying to find me. Saying all this, on one or two occasions it has found me when I have been stationary, so the issue seems to be inconsistent in it's behaviour. It is a shame as I do like the GPS functionality especially when using apps such as Vicinity or Local Picks. I do not want to reset my network settings as I have setup numerous wirless network locations and saved their passwords and I do not want to go through all that, only for the GPS to get it's knickers in a twist again.
Come on Apple, sort out the firmware and give us an update that will fix this temperamental GPS location service! I love this phone apart from the little gripes such as no Flash support, dodgy GPS and no MMS which I am sure can be all fixed via a software update! I am waiting...
