Junk mail appearing in Mavericks

I have the Junk Mail filtering turned OFF in Mail. I use Spamsieve and for years it has been pretty good as separating the genuine messages from spam. Now, however I find that the Junk folder is filling with junk messages, and occasionally some I want.
How can I get Mail to stop putting stuff into the Junk fodler and leave it to Spamsieve to put it in the Spam folder? I  prefer to have to check only one folder for false positives, and I would like Mail to behave as it is supposed to. I have other issues with it.
Any help appreciated.
James

  • Junk mail appears in Home calendar

When Mail processes incoming e-mails as 'junk' they appear as Events and ToDo's in iCal's Home calendar. I can delete this folder but it is recreated and repopulated as soon as new junk mail exists. I would appreciate any help stopping this behaviour.
    Thanks

That's not an easy question to answer.
In today's batch, the ToDo's are all 02-Mar-07. The dates for the events correspond to the dates on which the emails were sent (26-FEb-07 and 27-Feb-07 for today's lot). With one exception, all the events are one minute long.
Both the ToDo's and the events are assigned to a new 'Home' calendar. This is the one that I can delete.

  • Junk mail appears in iCal

I was very surprised when I opened my calendar today and found that an event had been posted - and the event must definitely have originated through the mail application. It was one of those endless junk mails offering a job and fast money. What is going on?

    Fulltimemom,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Open iCal>Preferences...>Advanced and make sure that "Automatically retrieve invitations from Mail" is unchecked.
Also check Mail>Preferences>General>Add invitations to iCal:>Choose "Never"

  • Junk Mail Appears in Inbox

I am using AOL accounts for my e-mail. The junk filters work fine on my iMac, but not on the iPhone. I was out of town for two days and my inbox said I had 42 e-mails. In looking at them (without opening any of them) I saw most were Junk. When I booted up my iMac and opened Mail, it automatically put 31 of the 42 messages into Junk, and that was immediately reflected on my iPhone, as well. Is there any way that the iPhone can put them into Junk as they are received, rather than waiting for me to access them on my iMac first? When I am gone for more than a few days, these things really build up.

I was hoping that the final release of 3.0 would have a Junk filter and rules syncable with OSX's Mail app, but Apple didn't see fit to give us that.
Still no SPAM filter Apple? Really?

  • After installing Mavericks, why can I no longer delete junk mail on my iMAC Mail program?

After installing Mavericks, why can I no longer delete junk mail on my iMAC Mail program?   Also, mail is sometimes slow to load in mornings on my iMac after it has appeared on my iPhone.  I temporarily solved that by shutting down and reopening mail two or three times.

I have the same problem on my iMac.  Most of what it puts in the "junk folder" is junk.  I delete all of the messages in the folder and they're back the next time I check it.  I have messages in that folder that have were received 2 months ago!  I'm thinking of unchecking "junk folder" in preferences.  Very frustrating.

  • Mail keeps marking as junk mail in Mavericks

    Hello all,
I'm having an ongoing issue with my Mail app in Mavericks 10.9.1 in that it keeps sending an incoming email from a particular sender to my Trash box even though I have it marked as not Junk mail and I've added the senders email address to my Contacts. It even shows up in Junk mail still marked as not Junk mail? Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you fix it? Thanks.

Having the same issue here. Some of my emails are going to the junk mail folder without being marked as junk. I tried resetting the junk filter and that did not help. In fact, I recently upgraded to a new iMac and purposefully did not use the migration assistant, but the problem has followed me to the new computer.
It seems to be linked to specific email addresses. Mint.com, YouTube, Twitter, and a few other corporate accounts all have 100% of their emails go to my junk folder without being marked as junk. This is despite the fact that my junk filter in mail is currently set on training mode and shouldn't be sending anything to the Junk folder.
Has anyone found a solution to this yet?

I don't think that a software update from Apple will solve the issues that you are having. You have a rogue installation. After you posted I have just done the following:
Disk Utility can verify  my partitioned Volume (including my boot disk) AND REPAIR the non-boot disks on the same Volume without a glitch. It repairs the non-boot disks containing data smoothly.
I have used Mail to send some mails from some Yahoo and Hotmail accounts to my Thunderbird client containing GMail accounts - absolutely normal.
I have iLife '09 but my iMovie '09 and iPhoto '09 open in a jiffy and I see no issues here. I have 6GB RAM (Maximum) on an early 2008 Macbook Pro with a 750GB hard drive partitioned with 120GB reserved for the Boot Drive.
I am sorry that I cannot help further but I am sure there must be a way to reinstall the software without having to revert to restoring your ML backup. I have two clones and if you have such I would attempt to do that through that rather than through Time Machine - that is of course if you have a cloned drive.
    Good luck!

  • Mail update for Mavericks appears stuck. What is best next step?

Since trying the upgrade tonight, I'm getting the "Mail Upgrading. This may take a few minutes" If I get my cursor over that window I get the beachball. Other programs are responding, but the progress bar has been in exactly the same place (about 1/3 of the way) for 2 hours. I tried force quitting, force quitting through Activity Monitor. I even restarted...and there it is. If the bar had progressed a mm or two I would be more hopeful that it will self-resolve.
I have to say this who Mail fiasco with Mavericks has been frustrating. I was excited to see the Mail update saying that addressed the gmail problems...not so much now. Any one else with this? Advice appreciated.

You could try those steps, it helped me with many Mail problems:
    Shut down Mail
In Finder, go to "~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/" (just do CMD+Shift+G and paste the path)
Move all "Enevelope" files to another place (like desktop)
Restart Mail and let it convert/reindex your mailboxes
If this did work out, you can trash the Envelope Files you moved earlier.
Note: let it run, even if a beachball appears. Depending on how many mails you have, it could take some time. If it does not work and you're on a status quo you could try it the hard way:
You will have to reconfigure your accounts and import you old messages:
    Quit Mail
Go to the User Library (CMD+Shift+G and paste following path: ~/Library/)
Move, dont copy, the "Mail" folder to another place (like your desktop)
Open Mail. It will act as if no account is configured.
    Configure all your accounts
Check if everything is working fine (in- and outgoing messages)
If everything is ok, go to "File"->"Import Mailboxes" (i think it spells like this in english)
In the appearing window, choose "Apple Mail" and click next
Now choose the Mail folder you relocated earlier
Let Mail import all the Messages
In Mail there will be an new Mailfolder "Import" or "Imported Mailboxes". If you browse it, you should find all your old messages.
Just reorder them and put them into the right place.
    Hope this helps...

  • How can I remove the junk mail folder from appearing in my macbook mail program?

    Hi all
Can someone please tell me how I can remove the "junk" mailbox from showing in my mail program on my macbook? It wasn't there before and I would like it removed. I've attached a screen shot to be clearer in my request.
    Thank you!

    Hey PrincessJasmine,
I see that you wish to get rid of the Junk Mail folder from your sidebar in Mail on OS X. I have an article for you that will explain how to do this:
Choose Mail > Preferences, then click Junk Mail. Make sure “Enable junk mail filtering” and “Mark as junk mail, but leave it in my Inbox” are selected.

  • Mail is not deleting trashed and 'junk' mail - it keeps re-appearing!

    Hi,
Whew! this one's driving me crazy! I've received a bunch of spam over the last 24 hours that I can't get rid of. I've marked it as Junk. I've dragged it to the Junk folder. I've erased Junk mail. I've deleted the spam. I've erased deleted mail. I've quit and restarted mail. I've cleared my email server. I've restarted the machine many times.
Every time I open mail... the Junk mail is back in my inbox. After deleting it, going to another mailbox, and returning to my in box, the junk is back....
The un-erasable junk total is over 116 now, and counting.
Is this some virus? Is anyone else having this problem? The spam is all from someone spoofing my domain (posing as someone from my domain). All of it purports to be from various mail delivery systems (such as Barracuda Spam Filter), and is coming from all over the world, USA, Britain and Germany...
    Help!

    Hi RThomas.
What type of mail account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac)? If POP, what are your Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings?
You may be able to get rid of those messages in Mail doing Edit > Cut (⌘X) (for best results do it with only one or a few messages at a time), but you may need to remove them from the server first. Does this account allow web access?
You may find the Account Info window useful to solve this problem -- choose Get Info (⌘I) from the Action menu (gear icon) located below the mailboxes list in the main Mail window.

  • Deleted junk mail keeps appearing

I have a problem with Apple Mail.  There are several junk emails that I delete, they go to Trash, and I delete them there.  But they keep reappearing in Junk Mail.
The dates on them are the original dates.  It seems as if I can't delete them.
Has anyone had this problem??  Is it something "coded" in the emails themselves?
    Thanks for  any help!!!!

two of the gmail accounts (jeffersonculture and schwartzbeer) and the modwest account (BRNW).
I wouldn't have posted the comment if this wasn't happening. I've used the spam/junk mail filters directly on the gmail & modwest online accounts in question. I am still getting the spam on the Mail client.

  • Mail going to the Junk Mail folder but not marked as Junk Mail

    Hi,
Hopefully someone can help me. It's something I had done but I don't know what I have done. All of a sudden all my emails from eBay are going directly to my Junk Mail folder, although when I try to click them as 'Not Junk' (Thumbs Up) they are not even selected as Junk Mail and I can still select them to be Junk Mail.
At the moment I'm just dragging them back into the correct folder but it still keeps happening. (I sell a lot on eBay so it's happening quite often).
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Why isn't junk mail going into its folder

I get a lot of spam and a few weeks ago, it went into my junk folder which pulled if off my iphone and ipad. Now the junk mail just stays in the inbox.

  • Urgent help needed with un-removable junk mail that froze Mail!!

Urgent help needed with un-removable junk mail that froze Mail?
I had 7 junk mails come in this morning, 5 went straight to junk and 2 more I junked.
When I clicked on the Junk folder to empty it, it froze Mail and I can't click on anything, I had to force quit Mail and re-open it. When it re-opens the Junk folder is selected and it is froze, I can't do anything.
I repaired permissions, it did nothing.
I re-booted my computer, on opening Mail the In folder was selected, when I selected Junk, again, it locks up Mail and I can't select them to delete them?
Anyone know how I can delete these Junk mails from my Junk folder without having to open Mail to do it as it would appear this will be the only solution to the problem.

    Hi Nigel
If you hold the Shift key when opening the mail app, it will start up without any folders selected & no emails showing. Hopefully this will enable you to start Mail ok.
Then from the Mail menus - choose Mailbox-Erase Junk Mail . The problem mail should now be in the trash. If there's nothing you want to retain from the Trash, you should now choose Mailbox- Erase Deleted Messages....
If you need to double-check the Trash for anything you might want to retain, then view the Trash folder first, before using Erase Junk Mail & move anything you wish to keep to another folder.
The shift key starts Mail in a sort of Safe mode.
