Junk mail appears in Home calendar

When Mail processes incoming e-mails as 'junk' they appear as Events and ToDo's in iCal's Home calendar. I can delete this folder but it is recreated and repopulated as soon as new junk mail exists. I would appreciate any help stopping this behaviour.
Thanks

That's not an easy question to answer.
In today's batch, the ToDo's are all 02-Mar-07. The dates for the events correspond to the dates on which the emails were sent (26-FEb-07 and 27-Feb-07 for today's lot). With one exception, all the events are one minute long.
Both the ToDo's and the events are assigned to a new 'Home' calendar. This is the one that I can delete.

  • Junk mail appears in iCal

I was very surprised when I opened my calendar today and found that an event had been posted - and the event must definitely have originated through the mail application. It was one of those endless junk mails offering a job and fast money. What is going on?

    Fulltimemom,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Open iCal>Preferences...>Advanced and make sure that "Automatically retrieve invitations from Mail" is unchecked.
Also check Mail>Preferences>General>Add invitations to iCal:>Choose "Never"

  • Junk mail appearing in Mavericks

I have the Junk Mail filtering turned OFF in Mail. I use Spamsieve and for years it has been pretty good as separating the genuine messages from spam. Now, however I find that the Junk folder is filling with junk messages, and occasionally some I want.
How can I get Mail to stop putting stuff into the Junk fodler and leave it to Spamsieve to put it in the Spam folder? I  prefer to have to check only one folder for false positives, and I would like Mail to behave as it is supposed to. I have other issues with it.
    Any help appreciated.

You can set up a Rule
Use "does not contain" to prevent items not Junk from being moved to Junk.
To trash immediately, change Junk to Trash

  • Junk Mail Appears in Inbox

I am using AOL accounts for my e-mail. The junk filters work fine on my iMac, but not on the iPhone. I was out of town for two days and my inbox said I had 42 e-mails. In looking at them (without opening any of them) I saw most were Junk. When I booted up my iMac and opened Mail, it automatically put 31 of the 42 messages into Junk, and that was immediately reflected on my iPhone, as well. Is there any way that the iPhone can put them into Junk as they are received, rather than waiting for me to access them on my iMac first? When I am gone for more than a few days, these things really build up.

I was hoping that the final release of 3.0 would have a Junk filter and rules syncable with OSX's Mail app, but Apple didn't see fit to give us that.
Still no SPAM filter Apple? Really?

  • How do I keep my home calendar events from showing up in my work calendar (outlook)? I have my work e-mail on my phone and need to see the work calendar but I don't want personal appointments showing up on it, like drs. appointments, soccer games etc.

I want to keep my home and work calendars separate but be able to look at both on my phone. I don't want my personal appointments and events to show up on my work calendar, although it's fine if work events show up on my home calendar.  When I delete a personal appointment from my work calendar in Outlook, it disappears from my home calendar on my phone. I just want it to disappear from my work calendar!. FYI, I have my work and personal e-mail accounts on my phone.
Thanks for any help/advice you can offer!

When you say "use the same purchasing apple ID for both to share books/music apps"- will this allow him to see what apps I download on his ipod (don't want)? will this allow me to continue to see what apps/games he gets on his ipod, on my phone (do want)? and do I set those changes on both devices?
    To do this:
iPhone: Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Automatic Downloads:
         Music: ON
         Apps: ON
         Books: ON
iPod: Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Automatic Downloads:
now you decide what he gets automatically.
He doesn't use game center, imessage, facetime or anything else (mainly just games, music and picture taking)- so does he really need his own apple id and email address? also- if he wants to start getting text messages, would i still have access to all of them if he has his own apple id? would i have access to them if he stays on my apple id?
Then he doesn't need an Apple ID.
    Switch in
    Settings > Messages >
         iMessage: OFF
Send & Receive > Apple ID: > sign out
Settings > FaceTime > FaceTime: OFF

  • HT4968 My "Home" calendar only appears on my Mac and not the Cloud even though "Home" is checked in all places.

My "Home" calendar only appears on my Mac and not the Cloud. If I uncheck "home on my mac" all events disappear even though it's still checked on the iCloud calendars.

(unless you already have one) Create a new empty calendar from the iCal file menu, select which account you want to create it in.
If you have only a few appointments you can move them individually by editing them and changing the calendar in the edit options.
Alternatively you can copy all the appointments in one calendar to another and delete the original.
To copy a calendar ctrl-click on it from the menu that appears when you select the calendar button (top left corner of iCal) and choose export (export it to your desktop for ease)
Double click the exported file and choose the new empty calendar to import them into.
Ctrl-click on the original calendar from the menu that appears when you select the calendar button and choose delete.

  • How can I remove the junk mail folder from appearing in my macbook mail program?

    Hi all
Can someone please tell me how I can remove the "junk" mailbox from showing in my mail program on my macbook? It wasn't there before and I would like it removed. I've attached a screen shot to be clearer in my request.
    Thank you!

    Hey PrincessJasmine,
I see that you wish to get rid of the Junk Mail folder from your sidebar in Mail on OS X. I have an article for you that will explain how to do this:
Choose Mail > Preferences, then click Junk Mail. Make sure “Enable junk mail filtering” and “Mark as junk mail, but leave it in my Inbox” are selected.

  • Mail is not deleting trashed and 'junk' mail - it keeps re-appearing!

    Hi,
Whew! this one's driving me crazy! I've received a bunch of spam over the last 24 hours that I can't get rid of. I've marked it as Junk. I've dragged it to the Junk folder. I've erased Junk mail. I've deleted the spam. I've erased deleted mail. I've quit and restarted mail. I've cleared my email server. I've restarted the machine many times.
Every time I open mail... the Junk mail is back in my inbox. After deleting it, going to another mailbox, and returning to my in box, the junk is back....
The un-erasable junk total is over 116 now, and counting.
Is this some virus? Is anyone else having this problem? The spam is all from someone spoofing my domain (posing as someone from my domain). All of it purports to be from various mail delivery systems (such as Barracuda Spam Filter), and is coming from all over the world, USA, Britain and Germany...
    Help!

    Hi RThomas.
What type of mail account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac)? If POP, what are your Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings?
You may be able to get rid of those messages in Mail doing Edit > Cut (⌘X) (for best results do it with only one or a few messages at a time), but you may need to remove them from the server first. Does this account allow web access?
You may find the Account Info window useful to solve this problem -- choose Get Info (⌘I) from the Action menu (gear icon) located below the mailboxes list in the main Mail window.

  • Deleted junk mail keeps appearing

I have a problem with Apple Mail.  There are several junk emails that I delete, they go to Trash, and I delete them there.  But they keep reappearing in Junk Mail.
The dates on them are the original dates.  It seems as if I can't delete them.
Has anyone had this problem??  Is it something "coded" in the emails themselves?
    Thanks for  any help!!!!

two of the gmail accounts (jeffersonculture and schwartzbeer) and the modwest account (BRNW).
I wouldn't have posted the comment if this wasn't happening. I've used the spam/junk mail filters directly on the gmail & modwest online accounts in question. I am still getting the spam on the Mail client.

  • Various E Mail problems: Junk Mail, Log Off, etc

I am having various and frustrating problems that are intermittant.
I have two incoming e mail accounts, one is IMAP and one is POP.
    1. Junk Mail. After having reset my junk mail settings as advised on this site just a few days ago, I am continuing to experience this problem. Messages that the systems "knows" is Junk Mail do NOT go to Junk Mail folder, but to the regular In box. It knows they are Junk Mail because the Tab for changing the message at top of screen says "Not Junk", which means it thinks it is JUNK. They why won't it go into Junk Mail folder?
    2. When I try to delete these messages one by one in In box, the computer "freezes" and takes forever to delete the messages. The In box counter on left hand side of the screen does not decrease as I delete messages, but takes a long time (minutes) to catch up with the deletions.
    3. When receiving certain e mail from specific recipients, the system intermittantly says "message not dowloaded from server, you need to take this account on line". Well. it IS online! Again, this does not happen all the time, but often enough and from the same e mail recipients) that it is very frustrating.
    4. Oftentimes when I try to shut down, I get the dreaded spinning color wheel, only to have to force quit. This is a lengthy process, and then I lose all of the deletions that I have tried to make to my Inbox.
Are all of these problems somehow related? Cumulatively, they are very frustrating. I never had these kinds of issues with Windows Mail apps. Uuughh!
Thanks for reading and any assistance.

There appears to be a problem with the index.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and ensuring that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see any other “Envelope Index”-named file there, delete it as well.
    4. Move the “IMAP-” account folder to the Trash. Note that you can do this with IMAP-type accounts because they store mail on the server and Mail can easily re-create them. DON’T trash any “POP-” account folders, as that would cause all mail stored there to be lost.
    5. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
    6. As a side effect of having removed the IMAP account folder, that accounts may be in an “offline” state now. Do Mailbox > Go Online to bring it back online.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.
    <hr>
If the problem persists, what are your Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors > Junk settings, particularly for the IMAP account?
Also, what have you done to “reset [your] junk mail settings as advised on this site”? This is what I’d suggest:
    1. Go to Preferences > Junk Mail, disable junk mail filtering, then enable it again. This resets the rule that governs what the junk filter does.
    2. Choose either Training or Automatic mode (it doesn’t matter) and leave the other options checked. Click Advanced to see how the junk filter rule is defined now if you want, but don’t touch anything there.
    3. Reset the junk filter database (Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset).
    4. Open Window > Previous Recipients and get rid of any addresses that you don’t want Mail to treat as legit.

  • Cannot delete item from junk mail folder in iPad?

Some items cannot be deleted from junk mail folder on iPad 2. It will not move to trash.

Have you tried swiping across the message in the preview pane when you open the junk folder instead of opening the email and trying to use the trash can icon?
If that will not work either, try rebooting your iPad and then see if you can delete the junk mail.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Having a hard time deleting some mail from junk!  Every time I delete it returns to the junk mail instantly!  Won't go away!  What's up with that

Having a hard time deleting two junk mail messages!  I press edit , I check the message, I try to delete and a screen message appears telling me the message cannot be removed!  Not sure what to do here!  Please advise?

Did you try swiping across the message in the preview window rather than use the Edit button? If you still can't delete the messages, quite mail and reboot the iPad and try again.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that still doesn't work, log into your email in a web browser and delete the junk mail there.

  • Junk mail arrives in iPhone 5s mail app but not MBP mail app

This is a strange observation and I am wondering if others have experienced this...
My iPhone is a 5s running iOS v7.1.  When I access my email accounts via my iPhone each day, I am greeted with a slew of junk mail on a daily basis (typically Monday thru Friday).  Not a new thing right?  However, when I access those same email accounts from my MacBook Pro I never receive any junk mail (typically Saturday and Sunday).  In fact, junk mail never even appears in my Junk folder on the MBP.  Now, during the week when I do receive the junk mail on my iPhone, I wait until I return home and open the mail app on my MBP whereupon all of the junk mail received on my iPhone NOW shows up in Mail on my MBP THEN automatically moves into the junk folder.  So, my suspicion is that spammers have now determined how to identify mail access between devices (iPhone vs. MBP).  I am guessing they may be capitalizing the the inability of the iPhone mail app to filter junk mail.
Am I imagining this or has anyone else experienced this scenario?  Many thanks.

    Hello rayalamx
If the Mail app is not opening, then I would remove the email accounts. Open mail to see if that resolves the issue and then start adding the accounts back in.

  • Invisible junk mail

when something goes in my junk mail folder, you can't see it. you open the folder and it says 0 messages, even though in next to the mailbox it says i have 20, or whatever.
this does not matter most of the time, of course, since it is junk mail. EXCEPT. occasionally i have accidentally clicked "junk", because the junk mail button is located next to the "get mail" button (a design flaw, in my opinion), and tagged something as junk that i don't want to.
then, because i can't see what's in my junk mail, i can't tag it as "not junk".
very frustrating. any help much appreciated, thanks.

This doesn’t make sense. Special Mailboxes is how the Mailbox Behaviors panel was called in Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), but according to your system profile you’re running Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)...
So what version of Mac OS X are you running? Please, fill in the Computer Model and Operating System fields on your My Settings’s profile with the right information (and click Save). This is essential information that should always be accurately provided when asking for help...
Actually, if you’re running Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), as appears to be the case, it would have been more appropriate to discuss this in the Mail & Address Book - Mac OS X 10.3 & earlier forum. If the discussion applies to both Mail 1.x and Mail 2.x, it doesn’t really matter, but it’s difficult to know that in advance.
Report the names of the files and folders present at the first level of the ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/ account folder in the Finder.
In order to post the exact file names and avoid typing mistakes, proceed as follows. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/. With that folder open, if you’re looking at it in View > as List mode, first collapse any expanded folders so that the Finder only shows the files and folders at the first level. Now, do Edit > Select All (⌘A), then Edit > Copy (⌘C), and paste it in your reply to this post.
You’ll probably see a Junk folder without the .mbox suffix there. If that’s the case, quit Mail and rename the folder to Junk.mbox. That should fix the problem.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • Can not expand junk mail folder

A weird thing happend to my junk mail, for no appearent reason. One of my four junk mail folders (since I use four email accounts) suddently has a little grey arrow next to it, implying that I should expand the folder to see the contents. When I click on the arrow, nothing happens. Next to the junk mail folder icon and text, it denotes that there are 11 new messages. I can't see them, and I can't delete them.
I would like to browse through these emails, since often there is one which may actually interest me. I can't figure it out. The three other junk mail folders/ email accounts have not changed, and are working just fine. I have not changed the settings. I don't think I dragged a new folder into the junk mail. Any insight?
