Junk mail greyed out

The erase junk mail is greyed out not allowing me to erase the junk mail box. Any ideas anyone please?

Have you tried highlighting the mail box on the left, then choose mailbox on the menu bar and rebuild?
Also, there is an option to erase junk mail, also under mailbox on the menu bar, have you tried that?

  • Why is Erase Junk Mail greyed out?

    In Apple Mail, there is a command I previously used under the Mailbox menu - "Erase Junk Mail" - which is now greyed out (not available). I have a Junk mailbox and I have tried selecting the entire mailbox or a single message in this mailbox, but the command stays greyed out. Why? How do I make this an actice command?

    I know it's a long time since your post but I just found the answer as I was having the same problem.
    I had set up advanced preferences.
    I reverted to "Move it to the junk mailbox" and the menu item was restored.

  • "Erase Junk Mail" grayed out

    When I want to delete the mail in my Junk mailbox, the "Erase Junk Mail" option is grayed out. The "Erase Deleted Messages" option works fine for the other mailboxes. Anyone know how I can fix this problem? Now I have to "select all" and then delete, and that's a three-step pain.

    if you select the main junk mailbox, the delete button is greyed out, so you have to select a specific junk mailbox associated with an email account of yours. If that does not work then try the following:
    1) quit mail, reboot computer, launch mail again, does that solve the problem?
    if does not help then
    2) launch mail, select each of your junk mailboxes, not the main one, then go to mailbox>rebuild and rebuild each of these junk mailboxes
    if does not help then
    3) go to applications>utilities>disk utility and repair permissions - may take awhile to let the process run its course
    if does not help, then let me know
    hope this helps

  • Read mail greyed out, also Inbox, Trash, Sent, etc

    I have two Macs, both use Mail Version 2.1 (752/752.2). On one of them, read messages are greyed out, as are the boxes down the left hand side of the page. Have checked the Preferences settings and can't see anything there. Any idea how to get of this please?

    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
    Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

    Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
    (Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

    Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
    Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Add account in Apple Mail greyed out

    After migration to Yosemite I imported added my accounts and imported my mailboxes in Apple Mail. This seemed to work fine.
    Now I want to add another mail account in Apple Mail (preferences -> accounts) and I cannot click the + (plus) as it is greyed out.
    I then added the account through system settings and it appeared in Mail.
    After a while (about an hour of inactivity) this account disappears from both Mail and system preferences.
    Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Found this and trying it myself . . . https://discussions.apple.com/message/23992956#23992956. Sounds plausible but it is a work around. Apple should look into it . . .

  • Mail greyed out in preferences?

    I had to do an archive an install of 10.3.9. Then I had to reinstall the iLife 05 applications. Now, everything is working except I can't choose Mail.app to send photos in iPhoto. The only option that is available is Entourage. All the other choices -- Mail, Eudora, AOL -- are greyed out.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi TaikoCJ,
    Check the Previous system folder and see if there is an older Mail.app there.
    If there is, delete it or trash it.

  • Mail greyed out, won't close

    I am running 10.6.8, and this so often happens to me. I don't know why.
    Mail has also "lost" mail periodically recently. Most "sent" and "received" mail appears in Mail AND on my server, but there is a significnt number of "sent" mails that don't appear on my server, and some of those are not reaching recipients, whie others appear to be receiving, because I get answers. Other friends have told me they didn't get an email for the ones that don't appear on the server, even though it is in the "sent" mail in Mail.
    Is this a problem with Mail, or with my server? Does anyone have an idea how to stop this happening?
    Thanks for reading.

  • Junk Mail: applying custom rules disables junk database

    Using default settings my junk mail filter works most of the time. But there are several persistent streams of spam that never get recognized as junk, and custom rules would identify them easily. But everytime I try, suddenly all the other junk that was being flagged comes through to my in box. I've selected "Trust junk mail headers in messages" and "Filter junk mail before applying my rules" but it has no effect.
    Also, the minute I add custom rules, "Erase Junk Mail" greys out and cannot be selected anymore. I have to first send my junk box to trash, then erase my trash.
    I've read the help files and they don't address this at all. (Same problem in 10.6)

    Don't have 3.0 on my computer but go to the Mail menu and choose Preferences.
    The click on Junk Mail then on Advanced and see what color is chosen in the setting and the conditions under which it is set.

  • Cannot move junk email to Bulk Mail folder in Yahoo, greyed out

    I've searched but so far no luck.  Ever since I added my two Yahoo email accounts on my iPhone 4, I cannot seem to send junk email from my inbox to my Bulk Mail folder, it is greyed out.  First off, I've confirmed that the Bulk Mail folder on my iPhone is the same as my Spam folder in Yahoo mail on the desktop.  I can see the same emails in both folders.  Anyone have the same experience and found a way to correct this, or is this just a Yahoo limitation?

    I am having the same problem, but I'm not very clear on how to follow the steps.
    went to my yahoo account in IOS;
    hit edit, hit "new mailbox" at the bottom right corner of the screen;
    entered a name;
    below that, it has "Mailbox Location", I opened it;
    it list all my personal folders, I am stuck here.
    How do I "point the mailbox location to the Bulk Mail folder", as instructed? Am I missing a step?
    This is for iPhone 4S, with the latest released version. Thank you!

  • Erase Junk Mail Button greyed out

    In Yosemite, 10.10.1 with mail 8.1 (1993) the Erase Junk Mail options are greyed out, both in the menu and the action menu at the bottom left of the mail viewer window. I cannot figure out how to get it back. I've rebuilt my mailboxes. It happens on all of the accounts. I have an iCloud account, a gmail account and several pop accounts.

    I had this problem and was able to solve it by enabling junk mail filtering.  I had it turned on before in Mavericks, but apparently that setting didn't come over for some reason or other.  Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail > Checked the box next to Enable junk mail filtering  I personally like the When junk mail arrives:  Move it to the Junk mailbox, so I selected the appropriate radio button for that as well.  Good Luck and hope this helps!  

  • Use this mailbox for greyed out in Mail 7

    Since upgrading to Mavericks (and Mail 7) I can no longer assign the sent messages folder in Mail.  My IMAP provider uses a "sent items" folder under the inbox which I had previously used Mailbox->Use This Mailbox For->Sent to get it synced correctly across all my devices.  Unfotunately all options under Use This Mailbox For are greyed out since upgrading to Mavericks.  This is the same for all my IMAP email accounts.  I am able to change the settings on my iOS devices but no joy on my mac.  Any advice would be much appreciated.

    I'm sorry it didn't work for you. I'm not sure but I think I deleted the account from the Internet Accounts preference pane instead of from Mail's preferences. Could that make a difference?
    Anyway for me the behaviour isn't consistent at all. In three IMAP accounts one does't have the problem at all, one shows the "Use This Mailbox For" options "Sent" and "Junk" selectable and the other two greyed out, and for one account only "Junk" is selectable.
    Strange.
    The two accounts that have the problem are from the German provider Strato. Though I don't think it is a provider issue.

  • Grey out "Erase Junk Email"

    Under mail boxes the "Erase Junk Email" is grayed out. To erase junk email I have to open an email, select all emails and delete. What do I need to make the "Erase Junk Email" selection active?
    Thank you

    Do you actually have junk mail filtering enabled? Mail/Preferences/Junk/tickbox at the top.
    It's not as stupid a question as it might sound! If you write some rules to put mail into the Junk folder, it can fill up the Junk folder without having the actual junk mail detection running. If detection isn't running, the "Erase Junk Mail menu entry is greyed out.
