Junk mobo???

Hello all,
i bought a new mobo (MSI K7N2 Delta-L) to replace my Abit KG7 so i can use my new 9800 Pro video card. I installed the new mobo and it will POST and let me enter BIOS or load off boot floppies, but the computer inevitably shuts off 30-45 seconds after starting. Whether i let it boot from the floppy or enter BIOS the result and timing is the same. I have tried the RAM in each of the three slots, DIMM 3 gives a POST RAM error (no RAM detected).
The CPU temp has not exceeded 90 degrees fahrenheit. I used Arctic Silver II thermal grease per their URL instructions.
I have disconnected everything but my floppy, HD and video card. I have swapped out video cards (9800 Pro and GeForce4 ti4200). I have also swapped out PSU's (Antec 350w and Antec 450w). I have used three different boot floppies (Win98 and two customs) Exact same result. System never gets to HD or optical so i doubt that is the prob. If the RAM were screwy wouldn't POST catch that? I can only now believe that the mobo is junk.
Another tidbit worth noting is that i had my concerns when i received the shipped mobo (from Newegg.com sent via FedEx 5 day) and noticed a helluva dent in the back of the box, deep enough to penetrate the FedEx box and leave a divot in the MSI box inside breaking the surfaces of both boxes. The dent is about the size of the toe on a standard shoe/boot, it really looks like someone attempted a field goal with my package (where is Chuck Noland when you need him?). My gf was home and received the package so i was not there to inspect/reject, which i surely would have done if i had received the package myself.
The other connected system parts:
1x Corsair 512mb PC3200 Non-ECC unbuffered Cas Latency: 2.5 Support Voltage: 2.5V (Model - VS512MB400)
Maxtor 160gb 7200 rpm 8mb cache HD
Lite-On DVD rom
generic floppy
Thermalright SK6 all copper heatsink
Delta 7000 rpm CPU fan
I searched the forums here and found nothing like this prob, so i hope someone here can assist me.
Thanks,
Derek

Glenvidia,
Here are links to Antec's posted specs on the two PSU's, according to the sig of the Mod poster in this thread, take these specs with a grain of salt.

Antec 450w PSU

I am RMA'ing the mobo back to Newegg today (via UPS NDA), i'll post the results of the new/repaired mobo when i receive it.
I must also state how poor the packaging was in the first place, the mobo box was just floating inside a standard FedEx box with no cushion or support. The mobo prolly would have been toast just from all the banging and knocking that goes with a normal shipment regardless of the apparently fatal field goal attempt. I'll cross my fingers and hope that the b0rked mobo didn't toast any of my other components.
Thanx for your help, i'll update asap

  • TV @anywhere (or at least some time soon!)

    Hi guys,
Thank you for all your system suggestions which allowed me to build a real cool box with more bells than you can whistle at! Once it's all up and working I'll post a pic of it. It looks like a nuke reactor.
It's quite fast but the PC @nywhere is not working at all. I have tried to reinstall the software several times but once I launch the program and try to get in set up I can't change any of the parameters i.e. things like country always stay on Taiwan. 000 on top left comes up at the start of the program. I haven't connected the remote cable. How should I fix the system to work?
With a MSI Mobo and a MSI video card, I thought it would be a breeze to set up TV @nywhere but I guess nothing is ever as easy as it should be....
Cheers from the land of the loonie

OK 6 weeks into this I now have a new tuner card and some updaters drivers. Computer stayed two weeks at the shop! It seemed to work when the techie booted it up in front of me.
Now the worst feeling of all. I get home, boot up  and the Raid controller on my MSI 655 board starting denying access to arrays! can't do anything!
I read the MSI 655 forum boards asking for solutions and ALL i read is about super dissatisfied customers having to deal with RMA issues because this is a junk mobo!
WOW! You need help. You turn to your manufacturer. You read boards hoping for solutions and  time after time people dish the 655 and I don't see techies admit or much less come to the rescue of owners.
I bought a mobo and two cards becAuse of these boards and now I can only regret that decison.

  • For all, (or at least some), with wireless woes, just check..........

Had a wireless drop today. For a good few minutes too. Very unusual for of late. Anyway, was using my browser and it took a while for the page to load, the wait lengthened an then; 'You are not connected to the internet'.
I clicked the Airport menu bar icon and it said my network was there. I opened Airport Utility and sure enough the AEBS was there. Every now and then I do a hard reset on my equipment any way so thought I'd try one then, just before I did though I noticed that my router, (DG834), had only two of its usual three lights up. The power light and the LAN port light. The internet light was flashing orange which according to the manual means 'ADSL Training'. Airport appeared normal.
My point is, all those times I assumed Airport was the problem. But maybe it is the router. I assume most people who run wireless networks have the router hidden away and so can't see what it's doing.
Before you flame me, there will be some people who do have genuine Airport problems and this post is not directed at them.
Just next time you have a signal drop check the router status too, and if by the time you get to it everything is normal, check the router logs to make sure it has always had a connection.

  • I think my mobo died....

     ;(
    Well here's the lowdown,
    System specs:
    Antec 400W P/S
    MSI KT4VL mobo
    AMD 2200+
    1024 MB 333DDR Crucial Ram
    80 GB W.D. hd
    40/24/40 Lite-On CDRW
    16X Piece of Junk DVD
cave-man edition magnetic disk reader (floppy...)
    ATI too-expensive Radeon 9700 Pro
    SB Audigy
    Netgear cheappie NIC
Yesterday I started up my PC and noticed the BIOS identified my Athlon 2200+ was a "mobile AMD Athlon 1700." After reeling my jaw back from the floor, I proceeded to Windows(XP Pro), and right-clicked on My Computer. Windows said I was running a 1.47 Ghz proc, which I am assuming the mobile 1700 runs at.
I rebooted and went to my BIOS setup, and made sure the FSB was set at 133, which it was. I then rebooted and went back to Windows, and ran Live Update 2. I was running v1.7 for my mobo and downloaded and then flashed to 1.8 using DOS mode.
But alas, still a mobile 1700...
So, being the twidget I am I busted open the case and removed the heatsink (taking all necessary precautions, since I 've spent enough money buying new parts becuase I was a DA in my earlier years). I couldn't identify any visual damage to the CPU, so I cleaned off the existing thermal grease from it and the h/s and then reapplied and remounted both back on the mobo.
Hoping that the problem just went away I plugged her into the wall and now when I press the power button, NOTHING happens. After again pulling my jaw off the floor and picking up the hair I just pulled out of my head, I opened back up the case and my trusty Mag-Lite and I began to search the mobo for any visual marks. With nothing I could see, I verifed the electrical plug running from the p/s to the mobo was fine and so was the jack on the mobo. Well, nothing so I pulled the Power On Switch connection off and checked it, nothing again...
So, after checking the Power Switch, the wires running to and from the mobo(power and all others), pulling the CPU back out again and checking for any damage, and almost putting a hole through the drywall, I am now sitting with a dead PC(and of course, it was my Gaming PC...).
So can anyone help me narrow down what the problem is? I figure I am a victim of static discharge on the mobo, or maybe a bad CPU(does the PC even turn on if the CPU is bad?), or maybe a bad p/s (haven't opened it up to check the fuse because it will void the warranty).
    Please help! ?(

Sorry folks, but after writing my original post, I got an idea. I checked the Clear CMOS jumper, which I remembered trying to clear the CMOS.
It was set on Clear CMOS!!!
Apparently the smart folks at MSI decided that if it was set to Clear CMOS, the computer wouldn't turn on... Just a while back my buddy ruined his mobo (It was a piece of junk ECS anyways...Those tend to fry just sitting there...) by having it clearing the CMOS everytime it started up.
Thanks MSI for watching out for this poor moron!
    Now, back to Freelancer!  :D

  • Pls help...my wifi disconnected after a few seconds - k9ngm-l mobo

    ok my rig is
    msi k9ngm-l mobo
    amd 64 x2 3800 proc
    corsair ddr667 mem
    i recently bought a wifi usb - dwl-g122
i connected it to my usb and install the cd then restarted
i got my preferred internet connection wirelessly but after a few seconds. i get disconnected.
I was thinking the new usb-wifi has factory defect so i tried to test it on my laptop, (of course i disabled the built-in wifi), i use the usb-wifi without a problem so im now suspecting the culprit is the mobo.
    a quick history:
i was using lan before, i experience something like i can connect to my yahoo messenger but cant browse. i uninstalled the smbus( i just tried it , i dont know wat it does) in the device manager and reinstalled it with the cd that comes with my mobo. but it fix my browsing problem. now when i tried this. its still the same.
after restart i can connect for a few seconds then disconnected, i even cant browse other pc after disconnection but my status is connected.
i tried to ping sites and yes i can ping when im still connected.
    please help...

hello any suggestion will do even if you tell me to junk my mobo and buy a new 1

  • MSI KT6 Delta MOBO - recommended power supply

My power supply exploded , I think, and I cannot power up the system.  Hopefully this has not affected the rest of the system: chip, graphcard etc.
What voltage power supply should I have for this particular motherboard?
    cheers

I'm sorry some of you are having problems with cheap power supplies.  That is beside the point, however.  I can only state what I know from experience, as I have never taken any classes in switching supply design.  I have absolutely zero (0) problems with cheap supplies.  And any motherboard that is so power hungry that it can itself overdraw a power supply is very poor design.  As I said, I ran my HP Pavilion xt983 with a 200-watt cheap-o PSU with all that stuff in my previous post for over 4 years with no problems (and the PSU still works even after the mobo died from bad capacitors).  I am using it to rebuild the exact same (minus HP mobo) system when the replacement mobo (crappy Chaintech) comes back this week from being repaired under warranty.
I never said wattage was the only metric - it's just a guide, as no manufacturer I know of specifies exactly how much and what type of current anything they build uses in the computer world (nor would I trust the spec if they did) - it changes under load.  Most people use max figures to decide how much current they need.  I just don't want people thinking they need an expensive PSU to run their good to mediocre PC.  I don't use junk and my PCs last for years on end (actually never had one I built die for any reason, knock on wood).  You do not need a high-wattage or even big namebrand PSU at all, unless you are building a very high-end PC (with light cathodes, water cooling, light kits, multiple every kind of drives, etc. - meaning you plan to abuse the system).  The run-of-the-mill PC needs no more than a cheap (non-junky) PSU that can provide at least 17 amps on the 12V rail.  That's what I use and that's what I recommend.  Wattage should be at 300+ watts to "allow for expansion".  Use the calculator.  See what all you have to add to get up anywhere near 430 Watts.  It can be done, but I would never tax a system that way.  The bottom line is watts are only a limiting factor, not a design factor.  If you add up all the rails on a typical 430-Watt PSU, it is way over 430 watts.  However, if you use all the 12V amps it can turn out and still stay near 12 volts, most of the 5V amps, and most of the 3.3V amps by overloading the system with doodads and whatnots, the 430W limit will matter.  As long as you build what I consider a normal system, you'll never use 430 Watts.  All decent PSUs can supply enough 3.3V and 5V current (should be around 30-40+ amps each), but many of them are deficient on the 12V rail.  Looking for a PSU that can churn out 17+ amps on the 12V rail usually means it can handle about any normal load (meaning single processor, mobo, a HDD or two, a FDD, a few sticks of RAM, and  DR/DVD burner or two, and a few expansion cards with no strange mods like lights and 100 fans, water cooling, etc.) on all rails.
So, to recap:  For everyday computing, watts are only a limiting factor, so don't get less than 300 in case you really want that power hungry device of the future or want to build a top-end system now.  Current is critical, so don't get anything that's puny on any rail (3.3+5V = ~30-40+ amps each and 12V = 17+ amps).  Ignore all the "this power supply rocks" junk you'll see in bulletin boards and on Newegg (and other retailers) and look at the specs yourself.  Namebrand means as much as you think it does - some have a good rep, some have a bad rep, some have no rep.

  • Mobo won't work with internal or external isdn

2 of my buddy's bought themself 875P FISR mobo's, after i highly recomended it to them.
the mobo's run great except for this one major bug on it
you cant connect a isdn modem to it.
we've tested 2 isdn modems(pci internal & usb external) on both mobo's and they both do the same thing --> crash on isdn installation gives out some weird message irq not less or equal??????
both of these mobo's have the latest bios's installed on them(3.2) and we've tried clearing the NV ram/rom or something like that and that didn't seem to work + reinstalling winXP pro
Is this a known issue or is this a new prob.
    their system specs:
both antec true 550 watt psu's
    both 3Ghz CPU's with HT
    both 1Gig Transcend Ram
    both MSI 875P FISR Mobo
    pc 1.
       runs sata raid0 with 2 X 120gig drives(very fast)
       transcend radeon 9600 XT
       standard cooling.
       onBoard sound
    pc 2.
single 120 sata hdd(not so fast)
              heculeze 9800 SE
       Peltier cooling system
       some 7.1 hometheater thing
    Pleaze help.

    irq not less or equal
There is a lot of documentation for that same error all over the web I was having the same trouble a while back with no relation to isdn at all. I was never able to pin it down. It was fixed with a reinstall.
You might want to do a 'google' on that error message and do a search on it at MS site too. Maybe with isdn in the search string too.
Make sure you have all your drivers for the motherboard updated, chipset etc...
As well as the driver for the modem itself. ISDN being a technology that is somewhat on the way out the door is receiving less and less support from the Manufacturers. Are your Modem drivers for XP specifically ? There is a good chance that a Win9.x driver would not work properly.
I had ISDN for a couple years. It was better than regular dialup but overall it was a major pain in the arse. Partially becuase the modem I had was a junkie one. It plugged up to serial. Thereby limiting my max speed to 115 instead of the possible 128.  It was very sensitive to port settings and the like. Was too dadgummed expensive too.
Good Luck, Hope I helped a lil.

  • Thunderbird fails to send email when "Scan email for junk mail" option is checked in Server Admin

I have 2 clients that need to send mail through my server, one Mac and one Windows. The Mac uses apple mail and the Windows machine uses Thunderbird.
Apple Mail will send fine, it is set up for "Use Default ports 25, 465, 587" and "Use SSL" and "Authentication: MD5 Challenge-response".
Thunderbird refuses to send and I don't even see any errors showing up in the Console on the OS X server under smtpd entries.
If I uncheck the "Scan email for junk mail" option on the server, then Thunderbird will send fine.
Thunderbird is set up as: "smtp port 587 (default)" "connection security: STARTTLS" "Authentication method: Encrypted Password"
May or may not be relevant: I use virtual domains as well as aliases.
Server: Mac OS X Server version 10.5.8

Solved it, looks like maybe the smtpd settings for sasl authentication may not have been correct. I followed everything in http://osx.topicdesk.com/content/view/38/41/ the "Frontline Spam Defense for OS X server" guide and now can send mail just fine from Thunderbird Winodws and from Apple Mail.

    Hi All
For Dunning Letter Report registered in Oracle Applications, made changes in Column headings like added customer number as Kunde for German Letter
but in pdf output it's appearing as junk characters even date field is happening like that. It's happening for German, Spanish, Italy and French Letters. Working ok for Netherlands, English.
any input to fix this solution will be great
    Thanks

Maybe you check the NLS_LANGUAGE-settings on the client where you "edit" the reports-definition.

  • How can I migrate my junk-mail settings from one Mac to another?

I would like to move my junk mail settings from one Mac to another. I found this article (https://kb.siteground.com/how_to_synchronize_the_junk_email_settings_in_mac_mail /), but can't locate the file indicated in the article, so I suspect that the article is out of date (though it's not dated).
    Both machines - MacOS 10.9.5; Mail 7.3.
    Any insights much appreciated!

Make your user library visible and see if you can find it.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library.

I just checked my BIOS and my current setting is set at IDE although it also mentions that the default should be AHCI. Currently I have a dual boot of Windows 7 (need it for Tax software) and Arch
So I guess, when I get the new HDD, I will first set it to AHCI and then install the OSes on it. See if NCQ helps any, and if not I will turn it back and re-install (if I have to). I am planning to have Windows only in virtualbox in the new drive.
Anyhoo, while I was in the BIOS I found two things which I had questions about :
    1) Under Onboard Devices --> Integrated NIC , my setting is currently set at "On w/PXE" and it says the default should be just "On". Would it be ok to change it back to On since its a single machine and its not booting an OS on any server. I just don't want to have to re-install anything now since I will be doing that in the new HDD.
    2) How would I know whether my BIOS would support a 64 bit OS in Virtualbox? I checked some setting under Virtualization, but they weren't very clear.
I will edit this post and let you know exactly what settings were present under the Virtualization sub-section.

  • How can I create a fIlter to delete only "junk" from the server?

One of my E-mail accounts is that of a major client. I handle their customer service online. Normally our protocol is to always leave all messages on the server, so for that one Thunderbird account, I have it set to never delete messages on the server.
But the account recently started getting a lot of junk messages. Thunderbird is doing a remarkable job at marking those and placing them in the junk folder for that account. I would like to create a filter that could remove them from the server, preferably those more than "x" days old so I could monitor the activity to be sure that no important message are removed.
I did notice that in "Filters" I can create a custom filter from a header of my choice, but can't seem to create what I want which is:
    - after mail is marked as Junk by Thunderbird to delete those messages from the server if they are older than "X" days (my choice of "X").
    - not delete any other messages from the server for that account

I believe that did it! Thank you. I am running those changes on a secondary E-Mail address for the same job and server and it appears to be working properly.

  • Blank screen after looking at a junk e-mail

Last night I was looking at my e-mail inbox(on outlook.com) and after deleting an e-mail the next e-mail came up.  It was from a sender whose name I did not know and the subject line was "thanks".  A quick glance at it mentioned some junk about a deposit of $2,000,000 that will be given.  I could see it was garbage and was about to delete it when my screen went blank.  I tried to move or click the trackpad and nothing happened.  After about 10 seconds I hit the main power button and the screen came back and everything looked normal.  I deleted the e-mail right then.  Since then the computer has been working fine but I am concerned that e-mail installed some malware.  Am I right to be concerned? I never clicked anything in the e-mail, just looked at it for 3 seconds before going to delete it.  Any advice?  Thanks.

  • CS3 Won't Run, Uninstall or Deactivate, Can't Reinstall; Junked.

    Windows XP Pro SP2
    2GB Ram
    Adobe CS3 Production Premium
Thanks to Adobe's new licensing system I have a $1700 production suite that is completely useless.
After a few weeks of working fine, it suddenly decided, for reasons unknown, to cease working. With the exception of Acrobat Reader, no portion of CS3 suite will load, all crash out with an error during the loading process, all with what appears to be an issue related to Flexnet licensing.
I've tried following the crazy instructions regarding removing it, but not even Windows' Add/Remov eprograms can remove it because it needs to be deactivated first, but I can't do that because I can't load any CS3 application to deactivate it.
When I tried manually removing all traces of CS3, including all the registry hacks Adobe barbarically suggests (rather inelegant for a supposedly industry profrssional product) the reinstallation goes awry and after it finally finishes, all applications still fail because it is supposedly not activated properly.
At this point I can only assume that the product is merely junk and that Adobe simply does not care. (they have not suggested a real solution, only clumsy and idiotic suggestions to remove it manually and reinstall over and over).
My last recourse is to completely format my hard drive, and completely reinstall Windows XP SP2 which is a major undertaking in and of itself, entailing a massive backup and reinstallation of all my software, as well as all my project and business information.
Adobe (and Photoshop) have truly gone downhill since Photoshop 7, and I see very little of any value or worth in this "Creative Suite" as the only thing it seems to create is frustration and additional problems. Is this sort of licensing really stopping software pirates? Am I supposed to suffer through lost contracts and countless hours of frustration after paying nearly $2000 for the software so that some pirate can't use it? Why don't they have a standalone application that can handle activation/deactivation and installation repair? Flexnet is practically a system crippling virus. And why did the add/remove wizard force me to shut down Yahoo messenger before it could run, and then tell me it couldn't do anything anyway?
This software is junk. Now I am forced to find a new product to edit my digital photography and create web and video content (hopefully for less than the $2000 I wasted on these discs that are now only good as beer coasters).

    >Any chance your firewall is blocking Flexnet?
No, I had disabled the firewall entirely after the issue presented itself. When I initially installed CS3 for the very first time I gave it (and all Adobe products) full permissions to allow for updating and any other internet-related communications they might require. Initially everything installed correctly, activated properly and all applications worked fine. After two or three weeks everything suddenly failed. After trying to load Photoshop and getting the mysterious failure, I had tried running other apps and all CS3 specific apps failed, giving me my first clue that it was licensing related (especially in light of the fact that non CS3-specific Adobe apps *would* load, such as Flash Encoder, Acrobat, and mysteriously, Soundbooth).
It's my belief that since the Flexnet licensing subsystem (which is crucial to running CS3) is prone to corruption, deletion or other conflicts, that there should be a standalone application that can perform a verification check for Flexnet activation and repair, registration and updating without requiring an Adobe CS3 app to be loaded. Especially since the deactivation procedure requires loading into a working CS3 app. I was told by a forum member that this is "the least of my worries" yet it is a concern for those who wish to minimize the amount of time spent calling customer service and dealing with installation and activation problems.
It's most likely that something I installed, uninstalled or use, had caused a conflict or corruption in Flexnet thereby preventing CS3 from operating. Following Adobe's suggestions, I stopped and restarted Flexnet, and Photoshop asked me to reactivate, and the reactivation was successful, however the application still crashed when it got to the "Initializing Palettes..." loading stage. All other CS3 applications, at that point, also failed to load, and all gave the same error code (which also referenced adobeowl.dll).
The Add/Remove system didn't work properly, and so I also followed other suggestions (as per Adobe) of manual removal, running CS3clean.exe and reinstalling, but that also failed to resolve the issue (twice running CS3clean.exe first at level 1 and then level 2, I hadn't bothered with level 3 at this point as there seems to be no trace of Adobe software on my system), and the applications gave the same errors after reinstallation, activation and attempting to launch.
The last recourse suggested was a "low level format" as that would be the only way to ensure no remaining traces of activation, licensing or prior installation, and would generate a new and unique activation and installation environment. However, since the actual *problem* has not been determined (nobody seems to know *why* or *how* this has happened) I am extremely reluctant to take such an action if the problem is likely to crop up again.
Since other people have reported the same problem, (not to mention many issues regarding installation problems) I really don't wish to spend hours backing up my system, formatting and reinstalling Windows, updating Windows, reinstalling every driver and software package and then gambling that Adobe *might* work properly after all that.
Since there is obviously a conflict with some software I run, and the other software I run is software I own and use routinely, then it's evident that Adobe Flexnet licensing is unable to maintain a coherent and secure record of my ownership of the CS3 product. That being the case, I don't see any point in continuing to wrestle with it until such time as Adobe determines a cause for the problem and issues a fix for it (though I doubt they will, they don't seem concerned in the slightest). For now, CS3 is no longer a piece of software I can use effectively or rely upon to be part of my production pipeline. I'm looking into other options for my workflow, and recommending against CS3 (as a whole) in general, except on "clean" systems with virtually no other potentially conflicting non-OS software present.

  • Cannot move junk email to Bulk Mail folder in Yahoo, greyed out

I've searched but so far no luck.  Ever since I added my two Yahoo email accounts on my iPhone 4, I cannot seem to send junk email from my inbox to my Bulk Mail folder, it is greyed out.  First off, I've confirmed that the Bulk Mail folder on my iPhone is the same as my Spam folder in Yahoo mail on the desktop.  I can see the same emails in both folders.  Anyone have the same experience and found a way to correct this, or is this just a Yahoo limitation?

I am having the same problem, but I'm not very clear on how to follow the steps.
    went to my yahoo account in IOS;
    hit edit, hit "new mailbox" at the bottom right corner of the screen;
    entered a name;
    below that, it has "Mailbox Location", I opened it;
it list all my personal folders, I am stuck here.
How do I "point the mailbox location to the Bulk Mail folder", as instructed? Am I missing a step?
This is for iPhone 4S, with the latest released version. Thank you!
