"Junk" vs. "Junk E-mail"

I have two folders where junk messages are being filtered and it's a bit annoying to check both. The folders exist in Mail, .Mac Mail, and on my iPhone. Which folder can I delete so that I only have to review junk mail in one place?

Have you ever accessed your .Mac account with another other email client besides the Mail application on your Mac or with the iPhone's email client?
When I've accessed my .Mac account with Outlook, Outlook creates an additional "Junk E-Mail" folder on the server which is used by Outlook only.
You can remove the "Junk E-Mail" mailbox from the server via .Mac webmail access and designate the "Junk" mailbox to be used by the server for storing messages marked as junk by the server.
This should take care of the rest.

Is it being marked by your email provider? Check the raw headers and see if there is an x-spam header.
If so, you can disable Mail trusting spam headers in the Junk preferences.

Can't delete a junk e-mail

Hello, this is my first post so please bear with me. I am using the Mail program which came with our iMac....have been for over three years now and have never had a problem.
We were away for about a week and I opened the program to check our e-mail and deleted what we didn't want BUT, I have come across an e-mail that will not delete....it locks up the computer....produces the hideous spinning orb and I have to force quit to get rid of it.
Everything seems to be working fine....just can't get rid of this junk e-mail.
I have been reading posts on the forum but can't seem to locate one that addresses this issue.
If anyone out there has had this problem, I would really appreciate knowing the remedy....Thank You.

If the message preview pane is open and closing it doesn't work, if this email account is a POP type account and Junk Mail is set to automatic, quit Mail first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > this POP account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) > Junk.mbox.
The Junk.mbox file represents the account named Junk mailbox under Junk in the mailboxes drawer.
Delete the Junk.mbox file and empty the Trash.
Launch Mail and a new Junk.mbox will be created automatically by Mail within the account named folder when the next message received is automatically or manually marked as Junk.

Link Functionality in Junk E-Mail Folder

Mail filtered as "junk" is automatically moved to the Junk E-Mail folder and links in the message are disabled as a protective measure. However, if I delete the email, or move it to the Deleted Items folder, the link functionality is fully restored.
Does that not seem unwise? Why would mail in Deleted Items have functional links?

In my opinion, Deleted Items folder stores items that you deleted of your own accord. These items are different from Junk emails which could be harmful.
If you are sure that the messages in Junk folder are useless, we can right-click Junk folder and select
Empty Folder to permanently delete the messages instead of moving them to Deleted Items folder. Or, you can hold
Shift key and then click Delete button to permanently deleted items in Junk folder.

Our organization recently migrated from FOPE to Exchange Online Protection. Users who have the
Microsoft Junk E-mail Reporting Add-on installed on their Outlook desktop client now receive the following email message when reporting Junk Mail:
Delivery is delayed to these recipients or groups:

Subject: Delayed Mail (still being retried)
This message hasn't been delivered yet. Delivery will continue to be attempted.
Is there a fix for this issue? Is there an alternate Add-on or should we uninstall the existing one from our Outlook clients?

Hi,
Sometimes some add-ins may take more time to load in Outlook, it depends on the performance of your machine and if you have multiple add-ins enabled, please consider disable some if you don't use them a lot.
Since you haven't mentioned which version of Outlook you are using, please note for Outlook 2013 users, we can try disabling the hardware graphics acceleration to check if this can help improve the performance:
Go to FILE tab -> Options -> Advanced
-> Display -> Uncheck Disable hardware graphics acceleration
-> OK.

Junk E-Mail Folder Disappears with Snow Lepoard

On my Exchange Server, there is a folder called Junk E-Mail. My Exchange server puts spam into that folder. When I used Apple Mail with Exchange in the old Leopard implementation, that folder appeared and I could review junk mail. When I upgraded to Snow Leopard and created a new Mail setup to use Exchange, it pulls in all folders on my account EXCEPT for Junk E-Mail. So, now I cannot see Junk Emails. Is there a solution to this?

i was also somewhat confused by Matt's solution suggested since I too have enterprise-grade exchange service and it has a good spam filter that i would like to keep on.
i did, however, investigate further and found that i can find the junk email folder using the 'Move To' submenu in the 'Message' menu in Mail. just navigate there and you should see the 'junk' folder in the list somewhere.
i have only tested this on my own macbook pro and not sure if it would work for the rest of you but i am using exchange 2007 features pretty smoothly in Mail.
i also confirm that junk emails are included in mail searches.
on a partially related note, msgFiler is a nice little mail plugin that helps move my messages but also is a way of quickly navigating to any folder by entering the first few letters instead of digging through menus and it brought up my junk mail folder when i typed 'junk'.
finally, after you do find the 'junk' folder on the folder list, it should show up in the sidebar after using it once but i am guessing it disappears once you restart Mail.

Duplicate emails in Junk E-Mail folder when running multiple Outlook clients

Has anyone experienced problems when running multiple Outlook clients - and a junk e-mail is received?
We are seeing that when a user is running 3 Outlook clients (2007/2010) - and they received a junk email - Outlook seems to take that email and movie to the folder. However, with 3 clients, there end up being 3 copies of the email.
Mail clients are Outlook 2007/2010 running in native Exchange mode (no IMAP, POP, etc). Server is Exchange 2010 SP1, RU2.
Antivirus is McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.7.0i - but we believe that the problem occurs even with it disabled.

we had a common mailbox that is accessed from different workstations, and the outlook profile is set to cached mode. when a junk mail is received, it will create duplicates according to the number of outlook clients, as what jbuschmann mentioned. Is this
a known issue in outlook 2010? Understand there's a fix for outlook 2003 for a similar issue, is there a similar fix for outlook 2010? thanks!

Keep marking the messages as Junk to hopefully train the junk filter what you expect. It is not a prefect science. One mans junk is another mans treasure even in email.

Blocking Junk E-mail

I just got my iphone and I have my email set up, is there any way to block unwanted junk e-mail?

I utilize the Junk mail blocking in mail.app. As long as that's up and running on my desktop, items that go to the junk folder never appear on my iPhone. Similarly, though, anything that does filtering at the server shouldn't be allowing emails to transfer over.
Actually, if they're being "filtered" but left in the inbox, that might cause it.

Blank screen after looking at a junk e-mail

Last night I was looking at my e-mail inbox(on outlook.com) and after deleting an e-mail the next e-mail came up. It was from a sender whose name I did not know and the subject line was "thanks". A quick glance at it mentioned some junk about a deposit of $2,000,000 that will be given. I could see it was garbage and was about to delete it when my screen went blank. I tried to move or click the trackpad and nothing happened. After about 10 seconds I hit the main power button and the screen came back and everything looked normal. I deleted the e-mail right then. Since then the computer has been working fine but I am concerned that e-mail installed some malware. Am I right to be concerned? I never clicked anything in the e-mail, just looked at it for 3 seconds before going to delete it. Any advice? Thanks.

How to mark as 'Not Junk' in Mail?

I no longer seem to have the option to mark mail as 'Not Junk' on my Mac.
I only have one mail account on my Mac (MobileMe) and recently some of my Facebook email notifications haven't been getting through. It turns out that a few of these emails are making their way to the Junk mail folder.
Unfortunately, I no longer get the option to mark the mail as 'Not Junk' when I open it. It doesn't matter if I open it from the Junk mail folder or move it first. Interestingly, the message isn't highlighted in brown even though it's in the Junk folder so it's as if MobileMe has decided it's junk rather than Mail on my Mac. Does that make sense?? I can't find a way to change Junk mail settings from the MobileMe web interface, though.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd be grateful!

It's not a very elegant solution (I am not a Mac expert) but I think I have come up with something.
I have created a rule in Mail>Preferences, such that if an incoming message contains the email address I want (e.g. from facebook), it will 'move' it to my MobileMe inbox. I reckon it should have gone to the inbox automatically anyway, but this seems to have worked.
Unless Apple have done something behind the scenes that I wasn't aware of?

That is a function of your email providers server when it comes to iOS. The mail client does not have any way to create and run rules.

Mail filtering must be done at the server level. So, see if your mail provider offers filtering & how to setup the various rules. Such cannot be done on the phone itself.
