Just a question to make sure this is normal.

Hi all,
I installed Leopard on my MBP, went smooth, no problems.
Now...my question is, in Tiger, when you start up you see the grey screen with the apple and gear, then you see a blue screen with the Mac OSX box and the blue bar. In Leopard, when I start up the computer, am I still supposed to see the Mac OSX box with the blue load bar or did they get rid of that?
Also, on shutdown in Tiger, you saw the blue screen, and then the comp shut down. In Leopard, it stays on the desktop (w/o the menubar and dock) and then shuts down.
Sorry these are pretty lame questions but I wanted to make sure it's normal...I'm so used to Tiger that I am paranoid after the upgrade. By the way, I did a Erase and Install.

Charles
This is all normal. Nothing to worry about at all

  • I updated to iOS7 and my deleted photos came back.  How do I make sure this doesn't happen again?

I updated to iOS7 and my deleted photos came back.  How do I make sure this doesn't happen again?  I want to get rid of the ones I already got rid of, but if they just keep coming back that will be a waste of time.
    Can anyone help?
When I sync with itunes, the photos sections says I am syncing with my iphone, so I assume that anything I physically delete from my iphone should not be showing up again.  Right?
    Thanks in advance.
    CM
    PS- I don't use iphoto.

Is that really how sync works?
If you read this, http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4236  and this http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314  they don't actually make how sync works very clear.  I had thought that syncing my device to itunes would allow I tunes to copy what was currently on my phone so that I could restore that information when needed ie if your phone dies and you need to do a clean install of the iOS system, you always have what is currently on your phone saved in Itunes.
    Specifically reading this:
To delete Camera Roll photos and videos from your device
There are two methods to delete items from the Camera Roll:
Import the Camera Roll to your computer and choose to delete items after import.
Delete photos and videos from your device manually:
Open the Photos application and open the Camera Roll.
    Tap the Action button.
Tap each photo to select it.
    Tap the Delete button.
Note: For photos and videos you want to save, import them to your computer before deleting them from the Camera Roll.
What you seem to be saying is that iTunes saves every contact, message, photo etc and when you click sync, it reuploads things that you deleted?  This seems like it should work the opposite.  Make a mirror image of my iPhone on my computer, not make a mirror image of my computer onto my iPhone.  You delete things for a reason.
Help- anyone else?  Is razmee209 right?

  • My itunes is on an old computer.  So old that I can't update it and so Haven't used it in two years.  How can I move it to my new laptop and make sure this doesn't happen again?  Very frustrated that I've spend $$ but can't get my music.

My itunes is on an old computer.  So old that I can't update it and so Haven't used it in two years.  How can I move it to my new laptop and make sure this doesn't happen again?  Very frustrated that I've spend $$ but can't get my music.
I want so set up itunes on my laptop and make sure that I get all of my old music and any music shared from my sons' itunes accounts.  Do I have to set up itunes on my new laptop first and then use the same logins?  Really concerned about losing any music, etc.

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have failed to move contacts and calendar items across you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

My sister and I share an itunes account so she can click on my email and receive my imessages how can I make sure this stops happening?

One of you needs to use a separate Apple ID for iCloud, FaceTime & iMessage.
The Apple ID needs to be a verified email address. Once you have an email address, that can be verified, go here & create the ID:
    https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/wa/createAppleId
Then on one of the phones, turn off Contacts, Calendars, etc. for iCloud. You'll be prompted to keep the data or delete it from the phone, then turn off iMessage, FaceTime & delete the iCloud account...Settings>iCloud...scroll down...delete account. Then, setup iCloud using the new Apple ID, turn on iMessage & Facetime.
This will have no affect on the ID you both share for iTunes content, & you can continue to do so.

Do one thing, take a back up of NQS config file from <Oracle Location>\instance\instance1\config\obiserver folder\nqsconfig.ini file.
Copy nqs config file if you have already have a back up.
Restart the services and try once.

  • An index of my desktop files appears in firefox. why is it there? does this mean my personal files are accessible from the internet? how can i make sure this goes away and stops?

i am seeing and index of my personal files on firefox. what is this? why is it there? how can i make it go away? does this mean my desktop files are on the internet? can someone explain clearly and simply (i am not tech saavy at all) thank you

This issue can be caused by an old bitmap version of the Helvetica or Geneva font or (bitmap) fonts that Firefox can't display in that size.
Firefox can't display some old bitmap fonts in a larger size and displays gibberish instead.
You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.
Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or see if you can find a True type version that doesn't show the problem.
There have also been fonts with a Chinese name reported that identify themselves as Helvetica, so check that as well.
Use this test to see if the Helvetica font is causing it (Copy & Paste the code in the location bar and press Enter):
    <pre><nowiki>data:text/html,
    Helvetica<br><font face="Helvetica" size="25">abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ</font><br>
    Helvetica Neue<br><font face="Helvetica Neue" size="25">abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ</font>
    </nowiki></pre>
You should reset the network.http prefs that show user set on the about:config page.<br />
Not all websites support http pipelining and if they do not then you can have issues with images or other problems.

  • Im new to the iCloud and Mac in general. After experincing a hard drive crash out of the blue, I lost everything. I want to make sure this doesn't happen again. I show backups for my iPhone and my daughter's iPod but my mac doesn't exist. How do I fix tho

I'm new to the iCloud and Mac in general. After experiencing a hard drive that went out of the blue, I lost everything. I wanted to use the icloud to back my documents up. I went into the iCloud under settings but it only shows my iPhone and daughter's iPod. How do I get my Mac to back up too? Is there something I need to use to have the documents back up?

You cannot back up your Mac to iCloud. Even backing the whole thing up to another online service would be dubious because it would take a very long time. You should buy an external hard disk and back up to that - even better, buy two and use one to make a Time Machine backup and the other to clone your Mac from time to time, thus giving you a backup from which you can boot in an emergency.
If you wanted to back up a suitably sized selection of data to an online service there are a number of third-party methods available, some of which are examined here:

  • Using Mozilla FIrefox I now keep gettng a display that says I must install a new "plug-in". How can I make sure this "plug-in" is secure?

Lately I've been receiving requests to update a "plug-in". This is a new message, and I can't get to my usual web sites without upgrading a "plug-in". A list of "plug-ins" is then displayed that require updating. How secure is this update page? Should I log in to your Mozilla web site to insure security? I don't want to be a victim of "phishing".
    Thank you,

  • This is normal, right?!

My question is this: whenever I turn on the computer or wake it from sleep, the disc drive (at least I'm pretty darn sure it's the disc drive) makes a bit of noise (same rhythm/sound every time). I just want to check to make sure this is normal. It's also a somewhat noisy drive when it comes to loading discs, burning, erasing, etc. Normal, yes? I hope so!
    Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

  • JUST TO MAKE SURE....

i just bought some ram from 18004memory.com and this is what i got:
    2GB KIT (1GBX2) DDR 333 PC2700 FOR POWERMAC G5
i have the 1.6ghz g5 and wanna make sure this will work for sure. or other wise i am an idiot. thanks!

I read more and more about RAM problems and making sure you have Mac compatible RAM upgrades...
I have added RAM to my G5 twice... I walked into CompUSA, told them the type/speed/size I needed and they sold it to me with no questions about my computer.
It has always worked fine for me.
Did I get very very lucky (twice)?

  • Noob here seeking help to make sure audio for my film is mastered properly

I learn through diving into things, watching and discussing and I'm at the point of worrying about audio and was hoping someone can fill me in on proper steps to take.
I am cutting together a 25 minute film on premiere CS5.5 and of course I have Audition. I have many many audio clips as you can imagine. I am wondering the basic process as to what steps I should take to make sure this sounds as good as possible. I have read some tutorials on Audition but honestly don't know enough on the concept of sound to understand if the steps shown in any of the tutorials pertain to my specific case.
I basically want all the volume levels to be standardized across the board. I know this can be done in Audition, and would love if someone could give a step by step as to how to properly do this. I suppose I am shooting for the standard -6 max peak, but again don't know which options to select in the process to make sure this is properly set. I'm not even sure how to properly select which clips I want the effect applied to... I attempted to do a volume match in some clips in Audition, but I did it by hilighting the clips with the mouse by dragging over them in the timeline, and I think though that the volume matching popup window was instead asking me to find these clips over in the Files window to the left. I pressed batch process and it defniitely processed SOMETHING though i'm not sure what. I hope that the program truly doesnt need for me to physically click on the files in the window to the left and will accept what is just hilighted as this would be a nightmare trying to sort through hundreds of clips.
I also don't know how to make the clips youre editing in Audition apply the changes to the Premiere timeline when working with dynamic linnk. Do I just save?
I also know I'm going to need to take out the electrical hiss is many clips (or hums) and was wondering what the best process to do that is as well.
Thanks a bunch for the patience with newbies like me to anyone who chooses to answer.

    Hi Velzz,
If you've achieved picture lock in Premiere - you're done editing the video and are now mastering the audio - this is a pretty straightforward procedure.
From the Premiere sequence, choose Edit > Edit in Adobe Audition > Sequence... and allow Premiere to generate an interchange session and open it in Audition.  You may want to render a reference video to make it simpler, but this is not a necessary step.  What we'll be doing here is not directly editing the clips in the Premiere timeline, but generating new clips for an Audition session, then sending rendered, mastered stems back to Premiere to replace the existing audio.
Once this sequence opens in Audition, select the clips you wish to standardize - these would likely be voice clips only and not music - and right-click one and select Match Clip Volume from this menu.  You'll be able to select a target level to which you'd like all selected clips normalized.  You may need to follow-up by adjusting the levels or mix depending on your needs, but this should get all the clips at a relative level so you're not making wild adjustments.
When you're satisfied with the mix, choose Multitrack > Export to Premiere Pro... from the menu.  You can send back individual tracks or buses rendered as full-duration stems, or the master output rendered to mono, stereo, and/or 5.1 stems.  Premiere will import these and allow you to place them on new audio tracks in your sequence.  mute the original audio tracks and you should be ready to export your final product.
To attack the hum/hiss, you'll want to try some of the Noise Reduction / Restoration effects.  Hiss reduction should make short work of any standard hiss while you may want to try the DeHummer tool to remove electrical hum and related harmonics.  You might have good luck using the Noise Reduction tool for these operations as well - find a region of audio that contains JUST the noise or just the hum (or both), select it, and choose Capture Noise Print form the right-click menu.  Then open the Noise Reduction effect and preview/adjust until you find the right balance of noise reduction without affecting your actual audio signal and apply.

  • To make sure sync doesn't over-write the phone?

I've just installed the new Itunes 9 but haven't connected my iphone USB cable yet Because I don't want to have the computer sync over write all my new info that's on the phone.
How can I make sure this doesn't happen.......??

    You have control over this.
The iPhone includes a setting under the Summary tab for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, and iTunes includes a global setting to not automatically sync when any iPod or iPhone is connected. iTunes > Preferences under the Devices tab.
Installing an iTunes update alone should not over-write or change anything on your iPhone.

  • Make sure 3g contacts aren't over-written in Itunes?

Sorry but the search came back with a zillion of confusing results. hence this post!!
I make a lot of iphone contact corrections or changes as my day's work/play goes on and "want to make sure" when i sync my 3g in Itunes version 8..... it doesn't over write my phones contacts.
How can I make sure this doesn't happen the next time I sync.....?

    Hi Jay,
You can Reset the Sync History in iTunes> Preferences> Devices. This would make iTunes ask if you want to merge or replace the data.
You can find more information about Resetting the Sync History and troubleshooting contact and calendar syncing issues here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1692

its not a question, but i just hope someone from apple can read this, i just wish you can make a card just like itunes card, for ipad wi-fi card. would be convenience.

That's why he gave you the link to make the suggestion.
But returning to your proposal ... Apple does not sell any of the "wifi" connections. It would be up to providers of service to sell giftcards, and perhaps Boingo or some of other airport-commercial WiFi firms do. I can't think of any other place I've been asked to pay for WiFi.
Now Verizon and AT&T, as well as other providers in other countries, could sell Gift Cards... and again, perhaps they do, but you'll have to check with them or make the suggestions there. It's really not an Apple issue, as they don't sell or provide any connections, just the hardware to make them.
