Just a quick question re my broadband speed.

Hi (again)
The advertised speed (from BT's choose for package page) for my line is 8.5Mb-13Mb, but I only ever have 5meg max (on a good day)?
Just wondered.

Speeds are sold as up to speeds the speed you achieve is dependant on your distance from your local exchange

  • Just a quick question regards my mobo..

I might possibly bricked my motherboard which I already ask a while back,, just a quick question,,, Now I did hooked up the powersupply to the motherboard alone,,, no other components,,, just the PSU and motherboard,,, then I use a paperclip to put static force on the motherboard's power button ( where powercables on the case should suppose to be in ),,, now the motherboard just keeps on blinking as my problem b4,, so its really the motherboard right??? I just want to confirm that the motherboard is the problem and no other components... thnks

Not in the Safari browser she can't. That is not supported on the iPad. There are other mobile browsers that do have that functionality - one is iCab Mobile.

Hi there, I just bought an iMac 2011.  Just a quick question.  Are those keyboard and mouse batteries that comes with the package are rechargeable?  Thanks!

Mine was bought last year and they were not; it they don't say "rechargeable". they're not. I started to use rechargeable as soon as the original batteries died.

  • Cirrus Logic sound card not working - Just a quick question (iMac 27-inch)

Hi, so as many have experienced, my sound card is not registering on my new iMac, on the Windows Vista side. I get sound out of the Mac side, just nothing from Windows.
I was wondering, would a USB sound card or sound pod solve the problem? I am not amazing with computers... But would buying one of those be a possibility?
I was looking at something like this...
    http://www.emicrophones.com/p-1230-andrea-pure-audio-usb-sa-full-duplex-usb-soun d-pod.aspx
If anyone who knows what they're talking about could give me some input on this, it would be greatly appreciated. I do a lot of video editing on the Windows side, so having no sound would be an extreme burden.

Hi - I had this problem when I installed WIndows Vista (32 bit) on my i5 iMac. I believe I resolved the problems by finding the drivers on the OSX install disk. What I am struggling with is updating the video drivers - but that is another story...

  • My Broadband speed - Is this normal

Just have a couple of questions about my broadband speed.
First of all, I am not using a homehub, Ive never been issued with one, and when my BT supplied broadband router died (voyager 205), I just went and bought a new one which allowed me to connect more than one computer to my internet.
However At the moment, I am running only one pc (and an xbox which is rarely connected to the internet) and I am getting just over 2meg internet as shown on http://www.speedtest.net/result/1870787988.png.
I am unable to run the online speedchecker from bt (it throws up an error) and the download version also starts throwing up errors.
Ive had BT broadband since 2005, so I am not a new customer by any means, But, is 2meg really normal? The exchange is less than a quarter mile from my home so its presumably not a distance factor for me.
If it makes any difference, I am on the Bt Total Broadband option 3 (unlimited), dont download much, and really only use the internet for Online gaming and general light internet usage (and for online gaming such as world of warcraft, I had to install Leatrix to significantly lower the ping or my game was bordering on unplayable).
The computer is connected directly to the router via ethernet cable, and the router is connected directly to the telephone wall socket. If anyone can shed any light on this, and let me know whether this is a normal broadband speed I'd be extremely grateful as it never deviates from that 2 meg, even though I am apparantly able to recieve up to 8meg, and a certain other internet providor has been cold calling lately telling me that in fact, I can recieve up to 24 meg from my exchange,

ive tried the speed test in Chrome, Firefox, and internet explorer, and its all returning that it is unable to check the speed for my line at present, and the download checker wont work in any of those either.
Looking at the router settings, and I hope this is the right information

  • Quick question from future mac user

    Hi there.
Just a quick question about the Intel iMacs.
Total noob with Macs so please forgive me, I'm looking to get away from Windows and PC's but not sure what I would need exactly.
Would the 24":3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 4GBs of RAM and 1TB hdd be more than enough to handle video/audio editing with Final Cut Pro Studio, some gaming (such as newer MMO games or RPG/FPS games) and maybe running VMware Fusion for running Windows apps and games that I have/use that are either not available or not yet supported by Apple?
Or would I be looking at goin with the Mac Pro?
I'd rather shoot for the iMac because I'm SO tired of PC's and boxes and would like my computer to actually look nice as well as kick butt. But I'm just worried that if I got with the iMac I won't be able to perform those functions well or at all.
I love the look and feel of the iMac although I don't think you can get more than 4GBs of RAM or more than ONE hard drive inside (which isn't a big concern as I can always use external drives) so I'm just wondering if upgrading to the extra ram and hdd space from the get go would be a great help without having to worry about adding more later.
I'd like to be able to just use the iMac than the Mac Pro because the price difference seems to jump up quite a bit between iMac and Mac Pro. I'm just worried if that type of iMac setup wouldn't be enough for what I need.
Any suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    Janin

The iMac in general is more than enough to perform those tasks well however the Mac Pro still has it's advantages. Lenn already went over those so take a look at these speed scores as they may help you to make your decision.

Either way I recommend getting the base RAM configuration from Apple and purchase RAM from OWC.

  • Quick Question - Setting up Personal Domain with godaddy

    Hi there
Just a quick question to make sure I've done this correctly?
Ok, I've published my iWeb website.
I've purchased a personal domain with godaddy.
I've set up the personal domain in my mobile me account.
I then logged into my godaddy account and went to 'Total DNS Control and MX Records'
I changed the following under CNAME (Aliases)
    www web.me.com 1 Hour
and then added a new CNAME Record
    www.*******.com web.me.com 1 Hour
Have I done this all correctly?
Will it take a few hours to take effect?
Anything else I need to consider?
    Thanks for reading.
    Ross

CNAME settings can take up to 24 hours to take effect.
As long as you have forwarded your domain name to web.me.com, then it should be okay.

  • Quick question about RegExp

    Just a quick question.
In other languages, I can do this...
    while(reg.exec(string)) {
         //loop through results
And while looping, I can access the current match with something like reg.Match or whatever.
    Is this possible in AS?

    Look up the RegExp class.

  • Quick question concerned with external HD space

    just a quick question
if TM only backs up files that have changed since the last backup
why does every time it back up i end up with a folder in my external HD (that acts as a time machine) that is the same size of the hard drive?
(e.g im using up 70 gigs on my macbooks HD..every time i back up with TM i end up with 70 gigs less on the external..should i just lose the space of the changed folders? :S)

That's the "magic" (or "smoke and mirrors") of Time Machine.
It makes "hard links" (sort of like multiple aliases) to the backups of the items that didn't change. That makes each backup, in effect, a full one.
That's how when you go into the "Star Wars" display, it can show you a snapshot of your entire system at the time of any backup.
If you look at your backups via the Finder, each dated backup folder is counting all those items that didn't change; so each one appears to be a full copy of your Mac. The sum of all the backup folders will be far greater than the amount used on the whole backup disk.
By the way, be +*extremely careful+* using the Finder on your backups -- if you change, move, or delete anything there, you can hopelessly corrupt them.
You can do everything you need to via TM.

  • Oracle 10gR2 Dataguard quick question

    Hi -
Just a quick question about Oracle 10gR2 Dataguard. I'm in the process of creating dataguard standby, which is running for few hours and could take few more hours because of the size and the standby's network latency, and i'm using OMS to create the DG. I'm in a situation now to create new tablespace(A) and also one more datafile to the existing tablespace(B).
Question is: How would this new tablespace and the new datafile in the existing tablespace affect the DG standby which is about to finish in couple hours? Will the DG pickup the new changes from the primary? Or, will it be done with error from the mismatch of the number of files? The issue is that i can't wait for the standby creation to be done as the additional tablespace and datafile requirement is production critical, and should be added right away.
note: standby_file_management is set to auto.
    Thanks for your response.
    regards.

Your post is a bit vague, as OMS is an acronym for Oracle Management Server, which is a service only.
If you would have stated you are using Database Control, or RMAN duplicate database, the picture would have been much clearer.
Database Control uses rman duplicate database.
Recovery is the mandatory implicit last step of this procedure to pick up all changes since you started the duplicate.
One word of warning: Network latency is one thing to avoid like hell in a standby configuration.
It might even slow down your production database.

  • Copy Array Quick Question

    Just a quick question.
    Say I have an array A = [1,2,3,4,5]
    B = new int[5]
I understand to copy the elements of A into B we could use a for loop.
But can somebody explain to me why you can't just go B = A?
Does this just cause B to point to A?
So how do arrays work exactly? Is it like in C where each element is actually a pointer to the data, or does Java copy the data directly into the array element?

Array A=[1,2,3,4,5] ----> Here A is a reference variable which points to memory locations A[0],A[1],A[2],A[3],A[4] which could not be continueous.Actually no. What you have there is a syntax error. And please don't confuse people by talking about non continuous memory locations. That's simply wrong. And 100% irrelevant for the question at hand.
    >
B = new int[5] -----> Here B is another reference variable points to an array which could hold 5 elemets. That is correct, basically.
All the five element holders of B could be physically any where in the memory, thus copying the the elements is done via a for loop. No, Java is smart enough to store arrays sequentially in memory. And the smart way to copy large arrays is System.arrayCopy().Or java.util.Arrays.copyOf.

  • My BT broadband speed is more like dial up, no jok...

Hello, i was wondering if anyone of this forum can help me because the BT customer service help line cannot help me. I've been asking for help for too long now and this problem is just unbearable now.
My BT "Broadband" speeds are limited to an appalling '17 kbps.' Web pages take about four minutes to open and 5 minute you tube videos take about 20 minutes to load. Sometimes the broadband speeds can go up to a respectable "120 kbps" but then it drops to these dial up rates and it lasts that way for days. I know that I can get speeds of "350 kbps" in my area but i've never achieved this with my BT connection. The broadband service has been terrible which surprises me because i was with BT in the past and they werent that bad. Im in my final year at university as a computer science student so i've needed the internet more than ever but BT have never been able to fix this for me. Either that or they are capping me for whatever reason. Engineers have been out to the house (three i think) but whenever an engineer comes out the speeds miraculously go up to a reasonable rate, i find that more than suspicious. I kindly ask any officals on this forum for their assistance because this really is my last effort in trying to fix this before i seek legal advice because this has been going on for months now.
Here are my speed tester results:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 119 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-250 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :1344 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 135 Kbps
Note that it says 119 kbps achieved during the test. I don't know where it got that number from because it's nothing like that when using the computers. I get my reading from programs that monitor the downstream and from just watching my direct downloads. I have two computers and an iPad that connect to the homehub so i know its no a problem with my computer. Plugging the computer into the hub using the ethernet cable shows the same download rates so its not a wireless problem
Thank you very much for reading my message and i eagerly await a reply.
    Thank You

Im not sure about my socket. I know that it's shaped like a step on the top with two levels. There is a port for the phone line  and a port for the ADSL connection. The help line had be taking the front of the panel off and trying different filters but it seems like the filtering is done in the actual socket because it has two ports. There is one telephone extension in the house that goes to the kitchen, but that just plugs into the normal phone port.
I must confess that i have been pressing the reset button quiet a lot out of frustration. i thought that it might of helped. Ill perform a quiet line test now as you suggested and ill post my findings on here
    Thank you
