Just a very simple report....I give up....

Workspace: ADP
App: 9311 Page: 7
I was trying to follow directions in 1.3.9.00.15 documentation -
"Report driven by self submitting select list"
see screen shot:
http://32.97.40.160/graphic/1.3.9.00.15_tutorial.jpg
Created one region & one item (dropdown) on this page.
Failed on both 1.3.9.00.15 local and Hosted HTMLDB.
Either no data returned or this error page:

Please go into my space & have look and let me know
what I missed/did wrong.
-- BUG(?) Report --------------------------
Also, FYI...
The LOV I created; on one step it say
"Display as : COMBOBOX_WITH_SUBMIT"
http://32.97.40.160/graphic/1b_of_4.jpg
Then very next step says:
"Display as : Select List with Submit"
http://32.97.40.160/graphic/after_1b.jpg
Not sure if this is intended - confusing thou.
----- WHINE/SUGGESTION --------------------------
Can you guys put up some REALLY simple basic
but COMPREHENSIVE samples ? don't have to be applications....
Case in point:
I looked thru ALL the sample apps....can not find one single page that can give me a clue of what's wrong with my LOV report because there is NONE....wasted hours....and I am beginning to loose the interest I had on getting an early start on this tool.....
You guys been developing this tool for years, know it like the back of your hands, but this is a totally new specie for many of us....
Im sure eventually there will be more/better documentations, samples etc.....
But until then can you not just put up some "quick and dirty" samples that we can follw along and not bounce around ?
Many Thanks

Robert - hang in there, we'll have plenty of example up on OTN soon enough. Remember that you are using a preview release of HTML DB which is not in production yet.

• Generate a simple report in XML publisher

Hello,
I have a simple Oracle Report 9i which displays data from four tables. It uses three different queries to get the data. How can I simply generate a similar report in XMLP without using the oracle report? I tried joining the queries (like outer join) but wasn't able to get the format which report 9i was generating.
Each table has two columns to be equated with other tables among the four i.e (A.c1=B.c1 AND A.c2=B.c2). The results are displayed in a hierarchial manner. Could anyone please help me out with a clear approach? Please let me know if I need to be more clear.
-Sitaram.

Check out in BIP user guide, fior sample simple reports.
to give you an overview ,this is the way BIP works ,
you create code to genrate the xml through any method from DB.
and Bip merges the xml and your template to get you the output you wanted.
BIP does more than what i have said, just go thru user guide :)
if you are expecting some help from your xml and xsl code,
paste your xml here and your xplanation , what you are expecting.

• A very very very simple question

Hi guys,
I have a very simple question and standard but I cant find anywhere...
I have two dateTime variables, i need to calculate difference between this dates in days, thats it.
I tried all functions and tried without success a Java Embed task but I couldnt retrieve this objects as java.util.Date so I couldnt calculate exactly the difference in days like this pure java code:
(dataVencimento.getTime() - dataReferencia.getTime()) / 86400000L)
can you help me this?

Hi Jose
Just see if these alternate approaches works. I know there may be lot like this and you may be lucky to find out simple out of box solution itself. If you want to solve this issue and move ahead, gives these approaches a shot.
1. Create a very simple standalone WebService that takes 2 input date elements (can be of Date type or String type. If string type, convert to date in your java code). Create a simple operation like getDaysBetween(firstDate, secondDate). In the generated webservice impl class, use the java code apis (refer earlier link for usage), and get the difference. Return this value. NOW, invoke this WebService in your BPEL Process, and pass your 2 inputs (if the bpel payload elemetns are date object or string objects of date), and get output, and then use this output in your continuing bpel process.
2. This approach, I did a long back. When we insert any expression using XPath, in that editor window on bottom right side, we see many categories and for each category we see list of functions we can use, like for String, we can use concat etc. I vaguely remember reading somewhere, that we can add our own custom functions also in this section. So explore this direction and see if you can add your own function and then use that fucntion with your 2 input dates.
I have not given solution to your problem, but may be these directions can help you move ahead. Or something along these lines.
Thanks

• Need very simple ''progress bar'' or a ''Please wait notice'' in javascript

I have a JSF portlet app, made in JSC. It uses remote EJB calls and some calls take a long time to finish. E.g. User clicks a button, some data are gathered, sent to an EJB and the app. is waiting for reply.
For the user it looks like this: Click ... Internet Explorer progress bar flashes, nothing happens for 30s, then the progress bar starts from zero again and loads the next page in 15s.
So I need a very simple notice in the middle of the screen, that will just say "Take a break, don't click the button again, please! ... " and animate a clock, a bar or whatever, maybe disabling the window so the user will not be able to push buttons. (The users are annoying folk!)
The message should dissapear as soon as the next (or the same) page loads.
I've never did javascript, so if anybody has a simple example code, I will be grateful and give him a duke or two. (And I really don't need the AJAX super-components)

Martin, best of luck, i fought this same problem last year.
Even when I got a progress bar on my page, it would not "animate" as IE apparently does not animate gifs after a form is submitted (and before the page is destroyed). I think I eventually got around this by adding an onclick event to my form submit that reset the image.
Best of luck.
Ideally, is there anyway that we can get this IE behavior (page loads, waits for X times, page loads again correctly) fixed? This is highly confusing to my clients.

• Simple reports

Hi
Gud Morning . I am Srikanth from hyderabad . I would like to know the following :-
1) Difference between simple reports and complex reports
2) Seqential procedure for creating SIMPLE REPORTS
3) FAQ's on SIMPLE REPORTS
Regards,
M.Srikanth

How many types of reports are there in ABAP and what is the difference between them?
Answer
In ABAP, there are a total of 7 types of reports. They are:
Classical
Interactive
Logical Database
ABAP query
ALV Reports (ALV stands for ABAP List Viewer)
Report Writer/Report Painter
drill down reports
Classical ReportsEdit section
These are the most simple reports. Programmers learn this one first. It is just an output of data using the Write statement inside a loop.
Classical reports are normal reports. These reports are not having any sub reports. IT IS HAVING ONLY ONE SCREEN/LIST FOR OUTPUT.
Events In Classical Reports.
INTIALIZATION: This event triggers before selection screen display.
AT-SELECTION-SCREEN: This event triggers after proccesing user input still selection screen is in active mode.
START OF SELECTION: Start of selection screen triggers after proceesing selection screen.
END-OF-SELECTION : It is for Logical Database Reporting.
Interactive Reports
As the name suggests, the user can Interact with the report. We can have a drill down into the report data. For example, Column one of the report displays the material numbers, and the user feels that he needs some more specific data about the vendor for that material, he can HIDE that data under those material numbers. And when the user clicks the material number, another report (actually sub report/secondary list) which displays the vendor details will be displayed.
We can have a basic list (number starts from 0) and 20 secondary lists (1 to 21). Events associated with Interactive Reports are: 1. AT LINE-SELECTION 2. AT USER-COMMAND 3. AT PF<key> 4. TOP-OF-PAGE DURING LINE-SELECTION. HIDE statement holds the data to be displayed in the secondary list. sy-lisel : contains data of the selected line. sy-lsind : contains the level of report (from 0 to 21)
Interactive Report Events:
AT LINE-SELECTION : This Event triggers when we double click a line on the list, when the event is triggered a new sublist is going to be generated. Under this event what ever the statements that are been return will be displayed on newly generated sublist.
AT PFn: For predefined function keys...
AT USER-COMMAND : It provides user functions keys.
Logical Database ReportsEdit section
Logical database is another tool for ABAP reports. Using LDB we can provide extra features for ABAP reports.
ABAP Query Reports
ABAP query is another tool for ABAP. It provides efficency for ABAP reports. These reports are very accurate.
Transaction Code : SQ01
Report Writer
Key Concept :
Super users and end users can use Report Painter/Report Writer tools to write their own reports.
Giving them the ability to report on additional fields at their discretion shifts the report maintenance burden to them, saving SAP support groups time and effort normally spent creating and maintaining the reports.
Instead of using ABAP code to write a report in FI and CO, many users build a Report Painter/ Report Writer library using transaction MC27.
However, this workaround has some drawbacks. Little known transaction GRCT solves these problems in most cases, and eliminates the need to use transaction MC27.
ABAP Report Types
ABAP report types are those ones available in some report's attributes screen, i.e. :
Executable program
Function group (containing function modules)
Include
Interface pool
Class pool
Module pool
Subroutine pool
Also ALV means ABAP List Viewer. Most convenient way to use it is through reuse library (cf. transaction se83) available from release 4.6 of SAP R/3.
ALV is available in two modes: list and grid. List mode is good old list processing with standard functionnalities, and grid mode is using a new OCX object displaying grids

• SIMPLE REPORTS FAILS

Hello,
I´m trying running this simple report on oracle developer:
TTITLE LEFT 'Run date: ' CURRENT_DATE CENTER 'Run by the' SQL.USER 'user'
RIGHT 'Page:' FORMAT 999  SQL.PNO SKIP 2
BTITLE CENTER 'Thanks for running the report' RIGHT 'Page: 'FORMAT 999 SQL.PNO
SET ECHO OFF
SET VERIFY OFF
SET PAGESIZE 100
SET LINESIZE 100
CLEAR COLUMNS
COLUMN product_id HEADING ID FORMAT 99
COLUMN name HEADING 'Product Name' FORMAT A20 WORD_WRAPPED
COLUMN description HEADING Description FORMAT A30 WORD_WRAPPED
COLUMN price HEADING Price FORMAT $99.99
SELECT product_id,name,description,price
FROM products;
CLEAR COLUMNS
TTITLE OFF
BTITLE OFF
And there´s no way to get in the output the TTITLE and the BTITLE, does anybody knows what´s wrong on it?
I already tryed comment the line TTITLE OFF AND BTITLE OFF.
Thank you very much.

If this is a regular report you run, you can create a user defined report. If you want to add formatting, then try the plsql-dbms_output report display style in the Reports tab.
e.g.
1. Create a new user defined report
2. set the display style to plsql-dbms_output
3. enter the report, e.g.
DECLARE
CURSOR jobs IS
SELECT last_name, job_id
FROM employees
WHERE manager_id > 120
ORDER BY job_id;
BEGIN
dbms_output.put_line ('<H1> The Main PL/SQL Report</H1>');
dbms_output.put_line ('<p> Designed to Illustrate a PL/SQL Report</p>');
dbms_output.put_line ('<H3> Ceated by Sue Harper</H3>');
dbms_output.put_line ('<H5> Create in November 2008</H5>');
dbms_output.put_line ('=============================');
FOR item IN jobs
LOOP
DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE ('<p> <b>Name</b> = '
|| item.last_name || '<b> Job</b> = ' || item.job_id || ' </p>');
END LOOP;
END;
I realize that this does not help any existing reports and scripts you have that contain SQl and SQL*Plus commands, but I give it by way of an alternative.

• I am going to buy a macbook pro for grade 12, and I need to know wheather I should get a macbook pro or a macbook pro retina. If someone could tell me (in a very simple way) which one is,better for me and why, I would be ever so apprreciative.

I am going to buy a macbook pro for grade 12, and I need to know wheather I should get a macbook pro or a macbook pro retina. If someone could tell me (in a very simple way) which one is,better for me and why, I would be ever so apprreciative.

Why do you need a expensive MacBook Pro?
Your attending high school and unless everyone else is rich also your likely going to be a target by the more poorer students for theft or damage to the machine.
You could keep it home, but if you need it for class then your exposed again.
Also at that age your not very careful yet, a MacBook Pro is a expensive and easily damaged machine.
Unless your made of money and so are others at your school, I would recommned a low profile, just does the job cheap Windows PC.
If it dies, gets lost, stolen or damaged because of your inexperince handling senstivie electronics then it's no big deal.
You can buy a Mac later on when your sure you have a need for it, currently there isn't much advantage of owning a Mac compared to a PC, they do just about the same things now, one just looks prettier than the other.
Since 95% of the world uses Windows PC's your going to have to install Windows on the Mac in order to keep your skills up there or be unemployed, so it's a extra headache and expense.
good luck

• I want the ebs report to give me an output in Excel

i am a bit new i can only view txt and pdf files as output from my ORACLE ERP.
I am able to change the file in the concurrent request definition window to XML but when i run the report from my HRMS resp. it gives me TAGS and not the output in excel.
Kindly help me with some document so that i can acheive my goal.
thanking you all in advance!

You need to use XML publisher and create a RTF template to format the data in Excel.
Outputting Oracle to Excel is always cumbersome, you can use XML Publisher (BI Publisher), Discoverer and bunch of other tools. The only problem with them is that you have to learn on how to use the specific tool, which often outweighs the benefits. Especially if your users have hard time adopting it.
I have been dealing with this issue for many years in all the places I worked at and finally came up with an approach where you simply paste your query in the standard report definition screen in System Admin and it produces Excel outputs when run. No CSVs, no dumping files into Unix, just click on the report output to have the Excel screen open up with your report in it. The only skill you need to have is writing SQL. Other than that, no development tools are required. To my surprise my latest client migrated from Discoverer to my tool, heh.

• Very Simple Problem-- Need help in method selection process

Hello,
It's difficult to explain the background of the program I am making-- but I am stuck at a very simple problem, that I can only solve with a very long block of if statements:
I have 3 possible numbers-- 1, 2, or 3.
Imagine two numbers are already taken-- say 1 and 2. I want a variable to set itself to the number that's not taken (3).
So, again: If two numbers were taken say 2 or 3-- I want the variable to be sent to the other one that isn't taken-- 1.
Thank you for your help,
Evan.

Actually, I'll just tell you the context of the program-- here is what I have so far:
This program is meant to simulate Monty Hall Problem:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monty_Hall_problem
The program sets up an array of three possible values. Each one of those values represents a door with either a goat or a car behind it. It then randomly sets one of those values to 1 (in order to represent a car as per the Monty Hall problem), and 0's represent goats.
The user, which is simulated by the program (does not involve actual interaction), chooses a door initially.
The game show hosts then reveals a door that is not the users initial choice, but IS a goat ( an array value of 0).
For example if the array was [0][0][1]
The user could pick door one (array position 0). Which is a goat.
The game show host then reveals a goat that is not the users choice-- which would be array position 1.
After the game show host reveals the goat-- I want the user to always switch his decision to the only other remaining door that was not his first choice.
Then I wanted the computer to test to see if his final choice is the one with a car. And to tally up the amount of times he got it right.
--Sorry that was long winded:
import TerminalIO.*;//imports TerminalIO package for system.out.println
import java.util.*;//import java.util for random
public class Monty_Problem
int doors[]= {0,0,0};

return judgeDoor;
else
return judgesChoice(rand.nextInt(3), initialChoice); //infinite loop right here that I cannot remedy. I want the program to have the judge pick a location that is not occupied by a '1' and is not the user's choice.
public void gamePlaySwitches()
int initialChoice= rand.nextInt(3);
int judgeDoor = 0;
int secondChoice= 0;
judgeDoor= judgesChoice(rand.nextInt(3), initialChoice);
//This part is meant to have the user switch choices from his initial choice
// to the only other choice that hasn't been revealed by the judge.
while(secondChoice == initialChoice || secondChoice== judgeDoor)
secondChoice++;
if(doors[secondChoice]==1)
wins++;
totals++;
else
totals++;
public static void main(String [] args)//creates the main menu
Monty_Problem a= new Monty_Problem();
int games=0;
while(games!=100)
a.carAssignment();
a.gamePlaySwitches();

• How to create a very simple dyamic tree with rich faces

hi i have spent more than 5 days trying to make a very simple rich faces tree but with no result
i want to make a very simple dyamic tree
for example i have a button when i click it.i want to add two nodes in my tree("node 1" and "node 2")
i have also failed in making even a static tree with richfaces i think that some thing is wrong with them i checked the live demo website
http://livedemo.exadel.com/richfaces-demo/richfaces/tree.jsf?c=tree
i have tried the source code but with no result :(
thank you

You can try something like this
<rich:tree switchType="server" >
<rich:treeNodesAdaptor nodes="#{CB.calendarioHandler.organizacion.departamentos}"
var="departamento">
<rich:treeNode>
<h:outputText value="#{departamento.nombre}"/>
</rich:treeNode>
<rich:treeNodesAdaptor nodes="#{departamento.empleados}"
var="empleado">
<rich:treeNode>
<h:outputText value="#{empleado.nombre}"/>
</rich:treeNode>
<rich:treeNodesAdaptor nodes="#{empleado.calendarios}"
var="calendario">
<rich:treeNode>
<h:outputText value="#{calendario.nombre}"/>
</rich:treeNode>
</rich:treeNodesAdaptor>
</rich:treeNodesAdaptor>
</rich:treeNodesAdaptor>
</rich:tree>
where departamentos, empleados and calendarios are just simple pojos lists.
I hope to help.

• Creating a very simple XML-driven gallery

Hi, I'm learning XML in AS3 and I am having real trouble finding a resource that can help me learn how to build a very simple XML-driven picture gallery.
I am working in an FLA file with AS3, with a dynamic text field with the instance name "textfield". I also have a UILoader Component with the instance name "UILoaderComponent" and an XML file called "rootdir.xml".
I have an XML file in the following format.
<images>
<imagenames>

</imagenames>
<imagepaths>
image1.jpg
image2.jpg
image3.jpg
image4.jpg
image5.jpg
</imagepaths>
</images>
I am using the following as my actionscript.
var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
var xmlData:XML = new XML();
xmlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, LoadXML);
xmlLoader.load(new URLRequest("rootdir.xml"));
function LoadXML(e:Event):void {
xmlData = new XML(e.target.data);
parseImg(xmlData);
function parseImg(imgLoad:XML):void {
var imgChild:XMLList = imgLoad.images.children();
for each (var imgTrace:XML in imgChild) {
trace(imgTrace);
No matter which way I experiment, I always have poor results with my dynamic text, and every tutorial I've followed does not reproduce anything like the same returned data in "textfield" that it does with the trace command.
My objective is: I simply want to build a menu inside a textbox called "textfield" that lists images1-5, and when clicked, calls upon the relevant image. For instance: I load the file "rootdir.xml" into the file "index.fla". I call a function to parse the XML into a dynamic text box called "textfield". When image 2 is clicked on the textbox "textfield", it would call upon a function that would load into the UIComponent Loader "image2.jpg".
Are there any tutorials for this? I'm so confused as to why dynamic text operates so differently from the trace command. I'm not interested in doing a fancy menu bar with thumbnails, scrollbars and animations, I just want to learn the basics.

I don't really see how you are getting a valid trace out of that code (I get nothing if I try it as is), but as far as the textfield goes, you haven't shown any attempt in your code that might help to point to why you cannot get the text into a textfield. It might be a problem with how you are trying to write to the textfield and not how your are manipulating the data.
While you could make use of a textfield for the menu, doing so is not straightforward, as you would need to implement htmlText with special coding in order to have the text clickable. You might consider using a List component or ComboBox instead.
What I always do when I am working with xml is to store the data into a data structure, usually an array conatining objects, and then make use of that structure rather than dippng into the xml data itself when I utilize the data.
Another thing, which rquigley demonstrated, is that your xml will serve its purpose better if the data for each image is collected under the same node. If you have separate sections for each piece of data like you have, when it comes to editing it will be more prone to error as you have to be sure you are editing the correct entry of each separate group.
I too am no expert in the world of xml, but I have not yet worked with parameters inside the tags, so I would usually structure it as...
<images>

<imgName>image 1</imgName>
<imgPath>image1.jpg</imgPath>

<imgName>image 2</imgName>
<imgPath>image2.jpg</imgPath>

</images>
Now, back to what you have... let's say you have a textField named imgText that you want to list the image names in. The following should work, though I do not go my usual route of storing the data into an object array first...
function parseImg(imgLoad:XML):void {
var imgNames:XMLList = imgLoad.imagenames.name;
var imgPaths:XMLList = imgLoad.imagepaths.path;
// show name
for each (var nameTrace:XML in imgNames) {
trace(nameTrace);
imgText.appendText(nameTrace +"\n");
// show path
for each (var pathTrace:XML in imgPaths) {
trace(pathTrace);
imgText.appendText(pathTrace +"\n");
// show name and path
for(var i:uint=0; i<imgNames.length(); i++){
trace(imgNames[i].text()+"  "+imgPaths[i].text());
imgText.appendText(imgNames[i].text()+"  "+imgPaths[i].text() +"\n");

features. I just want to play one static mp3 url and have
Quicktime-like
controls of play, pause, rewind, etc. Any suggestions or
tutorials on how
to do this? If there is a simple tutorial on how to roll your
own in Flash,
I have Master Collection which includes Flash.
Best,
Christopher

I spent a couple of days reviewing various flash mp3 players
on the net and
decided to use SoundPlayer from FlashLoaded.com. For $35 it
works OK. But
here's my question. Why doesn't DW CS3 include a flash mp3
player component
similar to the flv player? Or did I miss it? Yes, I know the
generic
plugin can be used, but that requires visitors to install an
additional
plugin. Adding mp3 players to web pages would seem like a
common problem in
search of a simple solution in DW; why isn't a flash solution
included with
DW CS3 and/or Flash CS3? Am I missing something? This was my
first Flash
project, so perhaps I overlooked the obvious.
Best,
Christopher

• Need help with a very simple example. Trying to reference a value

Im very new to Sql Load and have created this very simple example of what I need to do.
I just want to reference the ID column from one table to be inserted into another table as DEV_ID.
Below are my: 1) Control File, 2) Datafile, 3) Table Description, 4) Table Description
1) CONTROL FILE:
LOAD DATA
INFILE 'test.dat'
APPEND
INTO TABLE p_ports
FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"'
DEV_id REF(CONSTANT 'P_DEVICES',NAME),
NAME FILLER ,
PORT_NO
2) DATAFILE:
COMM881-0326ES09,6
3) TABLE DESCRIPTION:
SQL> describe p_ports
Name Null? Type
ID NOT NULL NUMBER(10)
DEV_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(10)
PORT_NO     NUMBER(3)

hi,
i managed to do this for my app. (think i referred to viewTransitions sample code and modified quite a bit)
i can't remember this well cos i did this quite a while back, but i will try to help as much as possible
1) from the appdelegate i initialize a root controller (view controller class)
2) this root controller actually contains two other view controllers, let's call it viewAController and viewBController, for the screens which u are going to toggle in between. and there's also a function, let's call it toggleMenu, which will set the menus to and fro. i copied this whole chunk from the sample code. it actually defines the code on what to do, i.e. if current view is A switch to B and vice versa.
3) inside the controller files, you need to implement the toggleMenu function too, which basically calls the rootController's toggleMenu
4) we also need viewA and viewB files(view class)
5) need to add the .xib files for the respective views and link them up to the controller class. i did not use the .xib files for ui layout though, because of my app's needs. however, it will not work properly without the .xib files.
5) inside the view class of both views, i.e. viewA.m and viewB.m, you need to create a button, that will call the toggleMenu function inside the respective controller class.
it will look something like this:
[Button addTarget:ViewAController action:@selector(toggleMenu:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
so the flow is really button (in view)-> toggleMenu(viewController) -> toggleMenu(rootController)
i'm sorry it sounds pretty hazy, i did this part weeks before and can't really remember. i hope it helps.

• This is a very simple question,but I don't know.Please me.Thank you!

I am a Chinese student in a university.I have a very simple question to ask.
I have writed a EJB module,and I have deployed to Weblogic8.1 successfully.
1.Now I want to write a client program.Is it necessary that the client program is packaged in the EJB package.For example ,the EJB package is Beans,is "package Beans " or "import Beans.*" necessary in my client program.
2.If I only know the EJB interfaces,that means the EJB module is writed by other programer.I want to know how I can write the client program.How can I call EJB module's method writed by other programer.Could you give me a simple example?
Thank you very much.
