So if you've removed the IT Policy (and you're absolutely sure you've removed it), that wouldn't be an issue now.
Go ahead and post ALL the details. When you try to register the device, what happens?
1. You do have THE BlackBerry Data Plan on your carrier account?
2. You have the personal email setup icon on your device?
3. What error or message are you getting when you try?

I just upgraded my data plan from 6GB to 10GB for the same rate of $80 per month. Is this a promotion? If yes, when does the promotion end?

In most cases you keep the same plan and promotions even when you upgrade the phone.  There are exceptions for very old plans and unlimited data, but essentially mrhelper is correct. You have option to "keep current plan" when upgrading.  so in most cases, your statement that you will go back to $100 for 10 GB when upgrading is incorrect.  What was your particular circumstance?

I'm going through the exact same problem.  I plugged in last night. Updated and when it came down to restoring it gave me the same message. Corrupt or not compatible.

  • Switching from Env Touch to a Droid 2     Questions about data plan.

I have an Env Touch with Unlimited Texting. My mother has a Droid 2 with Unlimited Texting and Data (the $30 plan).
I want to switch phones with her, but will I get the Unlimited Data plan with it or will I have to get the new payment plans for data?

Verizon has a data calculator on this site (just search for it) that can give you some idea of your usage.  You can also visit the services you plan to use and look for information about how much data they consume.  2GB would not be enough with hours of Pandora streaming each month, but if you regularly used WiFi for the more data intensive applications, you could probably stay under the cap easily.
If you go over your cap, you are billed $10 and get another 1GB of data to use.  You CAN use unlimited data, at a rate of $10/GB over your cap.

  • Just had cellular data plan added to my iPad 2. How do I wep secure my wifi connection?

How can I secure my cellular data wifi network on my iPad 2? I want to ensure others are not drawing against my data plan.

You can set up a password to secure your WiFi connection from your router. A very smart thing to do given a recent news story about a guy in Florida who didn't secure his WiFi network and was raided by the polce, who later discovered his signal was being used by another dude for illegal purposes..
As to your 3G cellular data plan, I don't believe it turns your iPad into a WiFi hotspot that others can use.
I can be paranoid, so I tend to turn on airplane mode when I'm not using my iPad, and especially overnight when I'm asleep.

  • My bill, my data plan

I currently have 3 phones on my account, 2 of which are smartphones. One has unlimited data (yay) and the other has a 2 Gb cap. The issue is this: the phone with unlimited data belongs to my wife. She usually connects to our WiFi and uses a smidgeon of that unlimited data. I, on the the other hand, spend most of my time at work and am limited by the 2Gb cap. I called Verizon to ask them to just port her number over to mine and mine to hers so that I can take advantage of the unlimited data that I am already paying for (I was told that unlimited data is associated with the number). I'm not asking for anything more or anything less. I just want to make more efficient use of my data plan. My wife has YET to reach the 2Gb in billing cycle, while I, in just 1 day, did so and pretty much had to not use data for the rest of the month. I was told that it is IMPOSSIBLE to change it over. IMPOSSIBLE? No. It's not impossible. They have the computers, they have the access, not me. How difficult is it to edit the database at a users request for something they are already paying for? Perhaps it is an oversimplification but it's a computer people. Stuff can be changed and adjusted. Like I said in the title, it's my bill, my data plan. I'm not trying to get unlimited data for both phones or bring Verizon to it's knees. I just want an appeal to reason and a SIMPLE customer request to make the most of a great network. I find it difficult to believe that there isn't one person who can help me. Is the information store with account information locked down? Did Skynet come online and not allow anyone to make changes? If so, tell me now because if that's the case, then I've got bigger problems than worrying about data plans and more to worry about in the form of Terminators and self-aware machines.
Seriously guys. There's SOMEONE who can do it. I'm not asking for the impossible. I just want to make better use of the unlimited data that I'm already paying for anyway. What do I need to do to make this happen?

demmo86rt, you have given me a more rational and believable explanation than any Verizon rep so far without patronizing me or pretending I'm some idiot. It makes sense if it does indeed matter between 3G and 4G phones. My wife is on an iPhone 4 (3G) and I'm on an HTC Rezound (4G). Still though, I imagine that since it's a billing thing, they could just move it over, OR, I could go the route of callling Big Red and say, "I would like to change the number on (mywifes-phone) to (myphone-number," and technically, I'm not changing the contract. I'm changing the number. Just seems that no one wants to do that. And I don't see how it's imossible to change numbers on phones that are already on the same network. But like I said, your post has been more informative than what any tier 1 rep or supervisor has given me thus far. I'm just disappointed that I can't make better use of unlimited data when my wife never will.

  • Current UNLIMITED data plan...

I'm very upset and considering leaving VZW, after being loyal customer for TEN years! My family and I have a Family Share plan, we share minutes, all have unlimited text, and my line has unlimited data. I have bern researching for MONTHS about upgrading to a smart phone...talked to other VZW customers, in-store reps and customer service reps (more than one had them analyze the account) regarding my upcoming upgrade, what type of plan I have, how it would be affected, benefits, etc...
My first question to everyone I spoke to was 'Can I keep my unlimited data?' I have been reassured countless times, yes you can! I was ven told that by me upgrading to a smart phone based on my current plan I would be SAVING money...
Now the time has come to upgrade...I've been SO EXCITED...I've been debating on Razr and Nexus... I make my decision and head into the store...
When I tell them what I would like to do they are more than helpful...then I'm asked which data plan would I like...I'm sure I'm looking quite confused and ask Excuse me? I then am told that NO, they can  NOT transfer my unlimited data plan. When I question it I'm told there is nothing  they can do in store but I can call customer service.
I do so. Before I even leave the parking lot. I am then told the same thing by customer service which infuriates me!
I've been being told for MONTHS that this will be no problem, and now that I am actually elligible to do so, I'm being told a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT story!
My contravt end date is 4/17/2012 and I'm considering leaving.  And got the impression that VZW doesn't really care...made no attempt to rectify situation or ease mt displeasure in  the matter...
    Any suggestions?

  • How to apply Static IP address without disabling data plan

Our Network team does not want to open all ports on a server mobile staff needs to access.  We ordered static IP addresses and entered them on the firewall so they can specificall access.  Once the IP address is added to the iPad - the data plan is disabled.

I have just tried giving my iPhone's WiFi a static IP address and it did not stop the cellular data from working.
    I probably misunderstand your problem.
I presume by a static address you meant the WiFi, was this a company internal IP address or an external one?
There could be differences between the iPhone and the iPad in how it handles this situation, my iPad is WiFi only so I could not test this.
If you get no other suggestions on the forum I suggest a visit to Appe store if possible or a phone call to Apple. If you are not under Apple Care there may be a charge for the telephone support but may save a lot of hassle. The option is to ask your Data plan provider.
Sorry I can offer no other suggestions.

  • @Data Plan haters/lovers

So In light of the current topics at hand I wanted to do a psuedo social experiment.
Lets pretend you a potential Verizon customer. You walk into a store and see a lot of phones that catch your eye. You chose to look at the LG EnV Touch. On the LG EnV Touch's information sheet you see:
*Requires a $9.99 data package or higher.
From what I understand these would be your following choices:
    1) Choose a different phone, that doesn't require a data package, such as a Simple Feature phone.
    2) Choose to buy the phone and pay the data package.
    3) Choose to buy the phone and pay the data package but block data.
    4) Choose to buy a better phone, like a smartphone, but pay a larger data package.
    5) Choose to take your business elsewhere.
    6) Choose to file a complaint with Verizon and wait until they do something about it.
Our of choices 1-6, which one would you choose?

You guys bash everyone for making the slightest comment that you don't like about data plans, an tell everyone if they don't like the way things are or don't like what you are saying to get lost and stop coming to this board to say these things as by your decree, it is not at all a place for anyone to complain about this and then continue to bash them with your senseless opinions on that topic and others related to it till the moderators have to shut it down.
Yet then you turn right around an start up threads that by there very designed are just to taunt an suck people into another bash fest.
Serious what the heck is wrong with you people?
If people don't reply, it's either because they don't like the choices posed to them, they haven't read the thread, or just don't care enough to reply.
And I am sorely, unbelievably, shockingly, amazingly astounded that you would think that I would specifically design a thread just to target a demographic of people so that I can "bash" them.
Your assumptions hurt me. I feel very insulted.
I would never do such a thing, and I feel very offended that you think I would go to such extreme levels to bring some rationality to the table of people who complain.
If it helps, I would choose number 4.
There is actually much truth reveal in your cynicism Mike

  • Can an iPhone work without a data plan, like an iPod?

If I purchase a new iPhone 4S, I want to give my old iPhone 4 to my daughter to use as an iPod touch.  Will it work the same as an iPod touch just without a data plan, not being used as a cellphone, just an electronic device?

Being already activated, the old iPhone 4 should still work as an iPod even if the data and cell plan are cancelled. If it deactivates for some reason, you'll need a valid SIM to reactivate, though you still shouldn't need a cell plan. You can ask for confirmation in the iPhone forum, just in case I'm missing some recent change or detail.
    Regards.

  • HT2731 Does using the same Apple ID on my iPhone and iPod touch use my phones data plan?

Does using the same Apple ID on my iPhone and iPod touch use my phones data plan?

If you are using the internet then it's eating away at your data plan, irrespective of your Apple ID.

  • Data plan!  why???  whats the difference of me using Wifi or being charged for a data plan?

Feature phones iterally suck, even the internet pro reviews on the phones are very low and most of the feature phones that are  reviewed  the reviewer gives  their  last comment as "don't buy" .
I do not need a data plan, ( I carry either a Verizon netbook or a notebook for all my internet needs) nor am I comfortable with the charge of a data plan being necessary or is this simply another way for a large company with a large profit margin to stick it to the consumer knowing we have to maintain a cell phone in this day and age?.
I had settled on the KinTwo, the reviews are not glowing but .... r not that horrible either.  It is also the only phone which gives the owner WiFi accessibility.  (which makes me wonder if this is the reason Verizon has pulled it off the market).  From my extensive research the KinTwo is the only feature phone choice.  But..... When I went back to the site to order it was gone, and the VW stores do not carry it.
UGH>  I am so discouraged by the data plans and the extremely high price.  Would someone please tell me what the difference is in my using my Netbook, laptop (notebook) on WiFi and not being charged a data fee?  Or why I can bring Wireless Internet into my home and have all my WiFi accessible electronics connect through my main ISP with an additional fee for each WiFi user????   But I am not able to use a Smartphone this way???
I am serious about these data plans  are they necessary????

once upon a time verizon did not require data plans
    many users were happy
but t h is did not last for users started having problems with thier hands
they would often hit the wrong buttons and use data
sometims as little as a mb, sometimes many mb
verizon forums and customer service started recieving phone calls to get credits for this usage
after all its not the users fault is it? i mean are they responsible if they had the phone to a 2 year old to play with and the kid brings up the browser?
so verizon decided it was in its best interest to protect its users.  they started requireing data plans so you wouldnt get hit with huge bills for being an idiot.
So if you wanna cry about data plans blame all those people out there that complained

  • This isn't a question but rather a warning to anyone using the new OS for iphone 4.  The imessage uses up your data plan like crazy.  I called Apple about it and they said no it's not doing it.  I called AT

The new OS is burning through my data plan like crazy and here's why.  Imessage uses your data plan and not your texting plan.  So every time you send a text message to someone with an iphone it uses imessage and it uses your data, not your text plan.  I couldn't figure out why I was burning through so much of my data plan so quickly.  I called Apple and they said, no it's not the data plan doing it.  I called AT&T and they said, yes, the imessage uses data instead of your texting plan if you are texting to another iphone.  Also, the new OS runs your apps all the time, even when you aren't using them.  So if you are not near wifi your apps are running and burning your data plan.  The AT&T guy took me through the steps to turn off the apps.  You can still use them but they won't be running constantly.  Seriously Apple, you should let people know this.  It does say it in the fine print on the website "data rates may apply" under imessage but most people will never read this.  So my data plan started on October 10th and it's already at 175 megabytes and I only have a 200 megabyte plan.  I've never used more than 50 to 75 megabytes in a month.  Apple get it together and be honest with people and tell them.  Quit denying the problem.  Most people have probably not even discovered this yet.  Wait till you get your bill.

    kimmie92592 wrote:
It's not really common knowledge because I've talked to several people today and none of them knew about it.  Also, when I called Apple they said no the new OS is not using data.  Totally wrong answer.  You'd think they'd know about it and at least tell people.  The people who are going to be hit by this are people like me with the 200mb plans.  I just think it's best to spread the word so people can know what's happening.  I still don't know how I went through so much data in such a short period of time.  It's not happening anymore though, not since I fixed everything up last night.
If you are using a free wifi connection, there are no data charges with iMessage.  But in an area where you did NOT have a wifi connection, of course it used 3G and of course you got charged for it (or had it count against your plan limits).
I'll ask again - without a wifi connection, just what did you think was happening?  How did you think your iPhone was able to magically send a message WITHOUT using any data connection?  A little bit of rational thought would have made you realize that there was no way, over a 3G connection (which is a service provided by your cellular service provider, NOT Apple), that you can send or receive ANYTHING without your service provider's plan picking it up.
Nothing abut iMessage has ever hinted that it can, in any way, bypass your service provider when NOT using a wifi connection.

  • Questions about Assumption of Liability and device to be used for unlimited data plan

This is my first post on here. I have an opportunity that someone I know is willing to transfer his smartphone plan with unlimited data to me. I have read extensively on here and other sites and gathered some information, and also heard of many complications and questionable losses of unlimited data plans when making various types of changes to devices or services. Some of what I read may be outdated as well if Verizon has made changes in their policies, so I will start with the most obvious question: as of this date, is an AOL possible while keeping the unlimited data plan intact?
If so, here are some other questions I have:
-Will I receive a new SIM card by mail or do I need to use my friend's old SIM card?
-If my ultimate end goal is to use laptop, do I have to connect through a smartphone (and is there any additional charge for that, or would it change the plan), or can I put the SIM card in a mobile hotspot such as the MHS291L and use only the data portion of the plan?
-After getting the plan, is there any way I can get TWO SIM cards - one for a mobile hotspot, and the other strictly for voice and text? If so, how much extra would that cost?
-If we went to a Verizon store to do this transfer or AOL, how can we be absolutely certain it goes smoothly, that no one makes any unauthorized plan changes and does not lose the unlimited data? I have unfortunately read some horror stories of it being lost in similar situations, no one seems to be accountable, and it winds up costing someone countless hours of struggle with Verizon to try to get it back (whether they are successful or not I don't know).
-If at some point the SIM card was lost (such as if I lost the device), can it be replaced without affecting the plan?
For what it's worth (especially for those working for Verizon), I am not looking for a way to hog up absurd amounts of data but simply to be able to do the basic stuff I need to online and maybe watch a movie once in a while without having really huge bills. Even if I used the internet without giving data consumption a second thought, I doubt I'd go much over 25-30GB most months.
Thanks to whoever can provide me with information.

Hi NicandroN_VZW, sorry i did not see your reply in time but thank you just the same. I called the number for the AOL department and they were able to help me with it pretty easily and answer most of my questions
I do have a couple other questions regarding the unlimited data plan on smartphones. I have seen various comments regarding these things online, and i can make a good guess about what "might work," but i'm really looking to know Verizon's official policy on these things, if one exists. In case any non-verizon employees are able to provide this information as well, if you have references to where i can find it in writing that would be helpful.
First, i realize there is an optional $30 fee for mobile hotspot use. But does Verizon have any policy about whether this fee must be paid if i connect only via a USB cable (since it would not actually be a "hotspot," and could not connect multiple devices)?
And my other question is, if i do opt to pay the $30 hotspot fee, is there any policy either for or against using that SIM card in a 4g hotspot such as the MHS291L?
PS i am asking these things here rather than by PM because, given the wide range of opinions which can be found online and that others have looked into similar things, i am sure other people could also benefit from knowing Verizon's policy regarding these things.

What exactly are you seeing on the phone's screen ? If the iTunes icon and cable then the phone is in recovery mode, in which case it's too late to take a new backup or to copy any content off the phone - you will have to connect the phone to your computer's iTunes and reset it back to factory defaults, after which you can restore to the last backup that you took or just resync your content to it
