Just been connected but pages won't load.

Hi,
I just had a new phone line installed last week (Friday) and have the BT Unlimited package. At the moment the signal is measuring at about 1.93 download speed. I know I am in the 10 day adjustment period but I can't even load a webpage at the moment, sometimes it is ok (still very slow) for 5-10mins and then becomes completely unworkable.
I contacted BT Technical to see if this was normal at the beginning and after doing various tests of the line, me changing cables and filters around, using different browsers and testing the wall sockets I was told I was in the adjustment period and had to wait ten days to see if it improves as there was nothing wrong with my line. I was also told 2 is acceptable which I disagreed with because I am unable to load even google sometimes. People in the area using BT are on a speed of around 5.
I am unhappy to be paying for a service that at the moment I can't use, this can't be right surely I should be able to use the internet?
Anyone have ideas what I can do, other than ring the Technical department all the time?
Thanks
Becky

welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
during the training period of 10 days you should remain connected 24/7 with no manual resets although your router mat reset but this is normal during training time
in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results .
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

I can make a WiFi connection but pages will not load.  WiFi works ok on a laptop using Windows.  I have reset the WiFi settings but this makes no difference.

Thanks, Linc, but  that almost helped:
Because the retina 15 only has a wifi connection (no ethernet), that's the connection I'm stuck with for the notebook. But on the 27iMac, I did have both ethernet and wifi enabled. When I turned the wifi off on the 27, therer was a brief moment when both computers were showing their counterparts when I tried to make a network connection. BUT, after a few seconds of 'searching', the computer I was trying to connect to disappeared from the Network list.
So I tried the opposite; the retina can only connect thru wifi, so that's a given. I swithched my ethernet off and then enabed the wifi on the 27 and ....same thing: When I try a network connection, there are a few seconds of 'searching', then the ony option I'm left with is share screen, which doesn't work either.
I've read the 'dropped' network is a problem with the retina, but the odd thing is that I never lose my internet connection—that continues to work fine, as does Air Drop—but I can't seem to connect, network-wise.
Any ideas about the dropped network?

Do a factory reset .. nothing will be deleted from your backups and you will be able to get access to them again.
    The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.

  • Xv6800 wifi connected but pages do not load error?

we just got verizon fios wifi in our house and my xv6800 phone is connected but pages dont want to load? ive also entered the code from the router? ive used wifi before with this phone and works perfect?

As long as you are connecting to the right router (check SSID) and are inputting the encryption key okay (WEP default) it should work fine, nothing else needed. Maybe try a router reboot/reset if it's still giving a trouble.

  • MacBook Pro displaying internet address but page won't load.

I restarted the computer and reset safari but it still continues.  I also deleted the cache.  It works at first when I turn it on for a couple addressed but then will freeze up again.  The web address displays but the page is white and won't load. Anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it?  A friend suggested updated to Lion OX.

Which Mac OS X do you have installed and which version Safari ??
Try turning the router off for a few minutes, then turn it back on, restart your Mac, try Safari.
If you have Little Snitch installed, that can prevent pages from loading.
If you have anti virus software installed, disable that.
And turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security
Upgrading to a newer OS does not guarantee that it will provide a fix for browser issues.

  • Help! Airport says I'm connected, but Safari won't load a web page!?

Okay, I'm a newbie, I would really appreciate if someone can tell me what's going on here. I purchased an Airport Express unit, followed the instructions, set up my own network, and on BOTH my G4 Desktop and my G4 17" Powerbook, the "internet connect" recognized the Airport and says that I'm connected to the internet (full strength), but on both computers when I try to open a web page Safari gives me an error code "cannot connect to the internet." What gives? Anybody know? There doesn't seem to be a help topic about this particular problem....

It sounds like it might be a DNS issue.

  • Internet appears connected but pages fail to load after 3-5 minutes!  HELP!

I purchased my Macbook three weeks ago and it immediately found my network and connected. A few days later my computer failed to load internet pages (both in firefox and safari). The connection would not disconnect, or seem to slow. I diagnosed and found no problems. To get it to work for small amounts of time I turn off airport and then turn it back on and get a few minutes before I get "Problem Loading Page".
I have updated the firmware in my router. I use a D-Link Router WBR-1310 and a D-Link Cable Modem DCM-202. I have called my cable provider, Comcast, and they tested the connection saying it was strong. I connected directly to the modem and it never failed to stop loading pages the full 20 minutes I was connected.
My computer has no problem connecting to other connections: The Library, neighbors, my parents' home. There are no time outs and it automatically connects through Airport, no problem.
I have called D-Link about the router. They're a bit confusing in troubleshooting the problem. They told me to connect my Ethernet cable to the computer and manually put in IP address, subnet mask, router address, and name server address. First, I don't know where to find any of that except for the IP address. Secondly, do they expect me to connect and leave the ethernet cable in my computer?
Have there been any problems with Macs and this router? What am I doing wrong and has D-Link given me good steps to take? My experience with them hasn't been so great so I'm skeptical. All of this is very upsetting, I can't enjoy my new Macbook at home.

Yes I had read about this. The point is, especially with something such as wireless, it has to inter-operate with everyone else out there. You would think Apple would do some testing before going to some "recommended" standard that obviously is not widely used in the real world. To someone who just bought a new MacBook, it doesn't matter that Apple is using the "new" recommended way. They just want to be able to connect everywhere they go.
No, networking is a world of standards and recommended procedures. This all used to be a lot easier when there were actual engineers who understood the RFCs running most networks.
You seem to think Apple just throws software over the wall. If that's true, you should swing by Cupertino some time and see if you can meet with a member of their software test groups; I'm sure they'd love to know that you think they don't do anything.
Or perhaps Apple is supposed to test their software with every ISP on the planet first.
And how many people posting in these forums have said when they turn Airport off and back on, then things work again for a while. If the issues are on the other side, why would that make any difference?
Did I or anyone else here say that changing to OpenDNS' servers would solve every issue with every person in each and every one of these threads?
But there have been many cases where switching to OpenDNS' servers does solve people's network delay issues. Hmmm, I guess Apple's cluelessness doesn't apply in those cases.
Come on. He connected directly to the modem and was loading Web pages for 20 minutes without any problem. He goes back to using Airport and the problem reappears. And you think it's reasonable to assume it was just a coincidence that the supposed DNS issue went away while he was connected to the modem and reappeared when he went back to Airport?
It depends now, doesn't it, as I just said.
Perhaps he tried "surfing to a few sites" while connected directly, and when that worked he went back to AirPort. Did he try going to the same sites? Different ones? We don't know.
In fact, even if he did visit the same sites, that wouldn't tell us anything either way as the DNS resolutions for those sites would have been cached when he was connected to the wired network.
This is the same thing that has happened to me since upgrading to Leopard. My wireless started going bad after some minutes of accessing Web sites. If I rebooted the machine, it would be fine again for a while. I finally just turned Airport off and plugged in an Ethernet cable. I have not had any trouble with accessing Web sites since - same ISP (Comcast), same DNS servers.
Tell me there is no Airport issue.
I never said there weren't issues. No one did. Except you implied I did.
Your approach to troubleshooting seems to be "Ah, Apple's software is broken, why bother."
    1) There are many people whose problems have been solved by switching to OpenDNS' servers. That's fact.
    2) There are many ISPs who have broken DNS servers. That's also fact.
    3) Comcast has a variety of DNS servers spread across the country, so your results in Colorado may differ from those of a Comcast subscriber in a different state. Fact again.
    4) You asked for reasons, I gave them, you don't like them. Obviously I must be an Apple shill. Funny, I'll have to ask why I haven't received a paycheck from Cupertino. Ever.
I understand your frustrations if AirPort isn't working for you, but don't turn around and drop into troubleshooting threads and tell people why suggestions we're making can't possibly address their issues just because they haven't solved your particular issue.
That would be just as silly as me assuming that because I haven't seen an AirPort drop since 2007, all of those posting in threads here are simply delusional or incompetent.
The only way to find out what's wrong in each case is to be methodical, and step one in diagnosing network delays is to see if DNS is at fault.
If it is, great, problem solved. If not, on to step two of a nearly infinite sequence.
    One step at a time.

  • Firefox suddenly doesn't load ( can still do stuff with mouse but pages won't load further) at random?

So I noticed this after the first update. I will be browsing on sites ( sometimes with more than one tab open, different sites each time) and suddenly the internet will go 'dead'. I can still do stuff with the mouse e.g; close firefox, click the tabs etc but the pages just stop loading.
This is not a problem with the modem, as other things like msn are still running fine.
This started about two weeks ago, the only way to solve it is to close firefox and open it again.
This seems to only happen on my account on the computer, the other accounts don't seem to have the problem.

The default of the pref network.http.max-connections has been increased from 30 to 256 in Firefox 6+ versions.
Try to decrease the value of the pref <b>network.http.max-connections</b> from 255 to a setting like 30 as used in Firefox 3 versions.

  • Connected but pages do not load

    Hi
I am new here and I was wondering if somebody could help me with my problem. The BT people were unable to help me so I am trying here. Basically, my internet connection is good (apparently excelent) but it often happens that no pages are loading when I want to surf the net, or incredibly slowly. So slowly that loading one page can take literally 30 min.
    So I tried the following:
    - cleaning my browser cache
    - I use IE so I installed Firefox
    - reseting the hub
    - disabling webshields in antiviruses (Avast)
    - tried the cmd , resetlog.txt thing
    - changed DNS settings (BT people told me to put 4222,4221 but I also tried the google ones 8888, 8844)
None of this helped one bit. Any other ideas? Please help as I feel for some weeks like I am paying for internet but in fact, do not have internet. My experience with people in the call centres when contacting BT was useless. They just keep repeating that my connection is good, which I know.
Please please help, I would be grateful.
    Thank you, Lucie_P

    Hi
Yes, I have firewalls. I tried to switch them off, which made no difference.
This problem started like 2 months ago and since then I emailed, called BT but they have no solution. They just repeat over and over that the connection is good. They are not interested in anything else.
Sorry, I have no other device for internet.
I can use it sporadically, at unpredictable times. I might be lucky an hour though the day or maybe 30 min in the evening. But even then, only some pages work, like maybe google. But not, say, Youtube.
It really drives me mad, because until two months ago, my internet was completely fine, no matter the time of day and the speed was decent. Then, from day to day, this problem.
    Best regards

  • I show full wifi signal but pages won't load

I recently upgraded to Lion and I'm having internet connectivity problems.
On my new macbook it shows I have full signal to my secured personal wifi network but nothing loads up on safari. This problem wasn't present when I was using Snow Leopard.
My computer that is hardwired to the router works perfectly with no issues. Suggestions?

    Unfortunately this doesn't work.
My wifi signal is at full strength using my network and I can even connect to other networks at full strength.
The internet was working yesterday but would drop off after about fifteen minutes until I restarted. Now no matter what I do, I can't even get a connection for two seconds.

  • I have an internet connection but pages won't open

For the past 24 hours, I have been unable to open my Web browser (Safari). . . The window stays empty for about 5 minutes and then I get a message that I'm not connected to the internet, even though it is showing a strong wireless signal. When I click on network diagnostics, I am told that I DO have an established internet connection, so I don't understand what the problem is.

Of course when I got home last night, it was working again, but it would still be good to know what the problem might have been, so your suggestions are helpful for the future.
Thanks for pointing out what should have been obvious to me about reception and access being unrelated. The answer to this may be obvious as well, but I'm somehow missing it - if I didn't have access, why did I get the message, "you have an established internet connection," when I ran network diagnostics? If it doesn't mean I have access, what is that referring to?
I haven't had any problems since I set it up almost a year ago, but if it happens in the future I'll try your suggestions and be sure to provide more specifics.
    Thanks!

  • HP Pavilion 23 all in one pc: Internet says it's connected, but it won't load any webpages

My desktop isn't in the same room as the modem, but I'll see about moving it to check the cable. Thank you for looking into it.

Opus123 Saw where you posted a reply with no response.  Must have missed that but yes it has been a while since we attempted to fix your issue.  I can suggest some other methods. The first one would be to reset all your browser settings to see if that helps. If you are receiving emails then we can assume that the connection to the internet is fine.  I know Ihave an issue where my phone knocks me off the wireless hub in my house so I need to turn off the WIFI on my phone if I am doing any work. I don't know why this is the case but it seems to be fixed if I do that. Then I reset the router and I am back in business.  you could try to go hard wired versus  wirelsss if that's an issue. Could be a driver thing.   As a last resort you could do a factory reset of your system by reinstalling the OS and basically starting with a clean system. MAKE SURE TO BACKUP ALL YOUR FILES BEFORE DOING THIS SO YOU DO NOT LOSE ANY OF YOUR FILES.   Try those and get back to me. I'll be wating and watching to see if any of those options work for you.  Happy New year

  • Connected to wifi but safari won't load anything

I can connect to wifi and it connects successfully but when I start safari it stays at the blank white page and the blue bar stays where it is at. I am running max osx version 10.7.2 and I have a macbook pro I just bought. I am getting very frusterated.

I had the exact same issue - new mbp, safari, wifi connected, but page would not load. Happened at two different hotels, one airplane, and two different airports.  Luckily, I had a PC running IE with me and it worked. I called Apple Support twice - no help. I was able to favorably resolve the issue by shutting down the computer and then downloading a different browser (e.g. Firefox). Hope this helps!

Dreamweaver uses virtual() if you have set your site
    definition to use
site root relative links. Unfortunately, virtual() is
    supported only by
Apache, so the fact that it doesn't work indicates that your
    remote site
is probably on a Windows server.
When changing from virtual() to include(), you also need to
    change the
link to your connection from a site root relative link to a
    document
    relative one.
    virtual('/Connections/mycon.php');
    needs to become something like
    include('../Connections/mycon.php');
