If you want a H.264.mp4 1280 x 720 @ 29.97 progressive frames per second export as the match for your source video with those properties, then you use

After you hit the Advanced Tab/and the Video Tab and put in your settings, the Advanced Export setting should look like

Do not hit Match Source. Put the values in yourself.
One of the major factors that we need in all this is the bitrate value of the original. We want to make sure that the bitrate of original
and export as the same or with the bitrate of the export being higher than the original. More on that later.

RH Project Structure - Source File (*HTM) - advise pls

Hi All, (running RH X5.0.2 on Windows XP SP2)
I transferred & inherited an 'unstructured RH HELP s/ware
documentation system (*.chm output) and I'm trying to determine
upfront the best way to organize, share and manage the projects for
chm help, documentation & translation/localization.
I'm a Newbie to RH X5 but not tech. authoring etc, but
gaining experience fast, such as editing/updating existing (legacy)
projects - building them out as .chm projects - though I intend to
advance to shared outputs i.e. printed docs etc in good time. But
How?
My output (.chm's)62 chms and 54 in the other with approx.
2800 - 3500 topics - has various requirements, but the main being
its shared between 2 major branded products i.e. 'Product 1' and
'Product 2' - Product 1 being the flagship and the forerunner..
this causes soo much hassle as the S/ware products are sold or
INSTALLED in so many differing variations/permations.. so you have
to be very aware of what’s what and goes with what variation
of install - time will improve this..!!
I've found Conditional Build tags useful at this stage to
define each products content - for inclusion/exclusion!
Where as the predecessor preferred to do it the long/hard way
and recopy the Topic(*.htm) file and segregate it in another folder
(unfortunately, usually leaving the same filename and then edit the
Product 1 data for Product 2's requirements.. (Conditional text has
helped this..). ever heard of SIngle Source authoring ..?
However, there are a magnitude of repeated, duplicated topics
through out the total help system, becos of the above and I wish to
bring law & order to this non share friendly file structure -
ex BroadVision user speaking - and have the following question..
1. Do the source files, (*.htm) files, have to be
stored/located in same folder as the RH project (*.xpj).
Could you place the source files in a separate location,
away from the .xpj.. i.e. on a drive labeled F:\\Source Files
(HTML)\HOUSE projects... Then have on the local drive i.e. D:\, the
individual projects (*.xpj's) in separate folders, such as GREEN
HOUSE, RED HOUSE, WHITE HOUSE projects which are all linked to 1
copy of Source files (HTML )?
I hope the output from each separate project will build out
with the same .chm filename but contain the according Green or
White house data?
This would allow just 1 lot of source files with differing
types of HOUSE text/data - but conditioned appropriately could
provide multiple deliveries separately & version control?
Please say yes - although it’s not necessary for it to
work across separate drives/networks but it will be desired in the
future...
2. The second and quicker way I assume, would be to use
multiple project files in the same complete RH project and design
the projects files accordingly - prod1_RED HOUSE.xpj and prod2_RED
HOUSE.xpj then treat the xpj’s as separate projects and
include/exclude topics as you want...
3. The first is friendlier when collecting all *.htms from 1
drive and posting for translation I think – instead of having
to mine the HTM’s out of each folder? Agree
4. Also can anyone advise on the amount of work (damage) I
will have to do depending on which way I decide to structure the
source files/projects - as the existing projects (64+) are all in
self contained individual folders .... would prefer not to be left
with more work.. than what I'm actually achieving!! (Ref. to
Deleting and then re-importing all the topics in as file reference
have dropped…. like F/Maker?

Thanks for you reply - however I think you might have
misunderstood my question(s) or general intention.

But Colum when you come to build this 1 project, based on
your suggested structure above, this would build out as just 1
finished final file - VERYBIG.chm. It would not allow for
variations of the install - (hence the reason I've 64 chm files).
Each feature or most of the S/ware menu commands/options are
in their own project/folder.. and that supplies 1 chm.
What I am asking is it possible to create more than 1 project
& .chm, say 10 projects/.chms from 1 lot of htm files. A more
accurate example may be required... see below:
I've 1 Folder called 'MY DREAM House' that contains all htm
files, and has 10 subfolders labeled as below with supporting
content:
1. Foundations/Ground Works - contains 10 htm files listing
how/why foundations are required & built.
2. Wall & Brick work design - contains 10 htm files
listing how/why
3. Doors/Windows design types - contains 10 htm files
listing how/why
4. Ground floor design/ rooms - contains 10 htm files
listing how/why....
5. 1st Floor Design / rooms - contains ... 7 htm files
listing how/why....
6. 2nd Floor Design / rooms - contains ... 17 htm files
listing how/why....
7. Electrical Systems /Design - contains 22 htm files and so
on....
............ Up until 10 individual Features (in separate
Folders), with the supporting HTM files, for the HELP design of MY
DREAM House....
Now you have three House Developers that require the HELP
formatted & specific Terminology their way.. i.e. 3 different
customers, but who all need the same general text/pics & but
differing Languages. So there are at least 3 deliverables involved
now
And each customer/client is not getting a complete
publication of all 10 Features - jobs required.
For Customer 1
You want to design the project (Customer1.xpj) to include
only Floor Design files - all 3 folder which totals 34 topics.. and
they receive it in 1 chm.. called DREAM HOUSE.chm
Customer 2
You want to design the project(Customer 2.xpj) to include
only Electrical Systems /Design & Foundations/Ground Works
files - 2 folders containing 32 Topics - in 1 finished file called
DREAM HOUSE.chm
Customer 3
your favorite customer - You want to design the project
(Customer 3.xpj) to include all 10 Folders/Features (not RH HELP
folders i.e. folders), supplying all the topics in a structured RH
TOC order just as the others have been, but with topics excluded -
but he gets over 80 topics in 1 file called DREAM HOUSE.chm
Separate OUTPUT folders
Of course you would require each .xpj to build out to a
different location such as Customer 1_Tender OUTPUT, and Customer
2_Tender OUTPUT and so on.. as the file names being the same would
be confusing.. (preferably I don't want to have to keep flicking
the generate Build conditions each time and have to remember and
adjust manually!
I think this may break down my requirement a bit better.
What I have just explained is my companies products
(software) being installed, but in all of there variations, scaled
down/lite version, major install or flagship fully paid up install
(Customer 3) and the .chm filenames are the same so the menu
cmd/registry entries call the file .. and the htm files remain in 1
place ready for copy to translation..
Do you understand what I'm trying to achieve now, with this
greater detail?

AS3 classes source file location?

Can anyone tell where the AS3 package source files (*.as) are located?
Besides for looking up class definitions in the AS3 framework in the Actionscript 3 Language Reference site, I'd like to open specific class files to look at them in their entirety. But I can't seem to find them, nor can I find any documentation specifying their location.
Any information on where the core AS3 package files are located locally would be appreciated.

Under Flash Preferences menu ->ActionScript->Language->ActionScript 3.0 Settings you find at the top level :

Found the flex_sdk folder in the Flash application folder (mac), Programs file on PC I imagine.
Therein is a 'flex.swc' file, which I'm guessing has all the core classes.
I'm guessing one needs to download the Flex SDK source code here; you may need to download & learn how to use a Subversion (versioning app) client ?? :

Mxmlc / compc: automatically link in all source files?

In the standard configuration, compc and mxmlc only link in classes actually used by your project. We're using code generation to get ActionScript classes from our Java classes for AMF serialization. We deal with most of these generically, so we don't automatically reference all the generated classes. Consequently, some of these are compiled out of the final .swf, causing hard-to-track-down serialization issues. Is there a simple way to tell mxmlc / compc to include *all* classes defined in a certain path? I tried to use include-sources, but when I just add all the source files to include-sources (I'm using mxmlc / compc through ant with a fileset for this purpose, for what it's worth, but the problem is not ant-specific), I get weird errors about circular inheritance. Any other strategies for achieving this?

One way you might ba able to acomplish this is when you are auto-generating your actionscript classes from Java, create a classes.as file.

Include this class in the compc include class.
This should alow the linker to pick up all classes very neatly.

How do I stream purchased movies to my Macbook Pro if I've already downloaded them and moved the source files to an external desktop hard drive and I'm away from home?

I recently added a number of movies to my iTunes library by redeeming digital copeis that came with Blu-rays. Due to limted disc space on my MacBook Pro, and for safe keeping, once I downloaded the movies, I moved the source files to an external desktop hard drive. When I'm home and I'm able to access that external HD via my home network, I'm able to watch the movies without an issue. However, if I'm away from home and I want to watch them, I'm not sure how to do that. I thought I could "stream" purchased movies from within iTunes - even after downloading them - using "iTunes in the Cloud" but can't figure out how to do that, or it simply isn't possible.
What are my options?

I understand that I can't play my downloaded movies when my external HDD is not connected becuase iTunes is looking for the downloaded files. This is not the issue. The issue is that because my HDD is not connected (as in when I'm away from home) I'd like to be able to stream the movies via the cloud.
If I hadn't downloaded the movies when I redeemed my codes, would I have been able to keep the movies online via Apple iCloud and watched them anytime by streaming them or must the movies be downloaded in order to be viewed on my MacBook? I read that Apple allows movies purchased (or redeemed) via iTunes to be stored in the cloud via Apple iCloud so that they can be viewed any time, on any device. IF this is the case, how does it work? From what I can see, it looks like movies can only be "streamed" from the cloud when useing Apple TV; on my iPhone and MacBook Pro, it looks like they need to be downloaded in order to be viewed.
Can someone clarify this for me?
Also - Michael - when you said that If I've already downloaded the film but I'm away from my external HDD I should "Delete the entry from the iTunes library so iTunes only sees the iTunes in the Cloud version", what exactly would this mean? Would this mean that I could then stream the movie from the cloud or would I have to re-download it to my Mac's internal HDD in order to watch it?

Windows Easy Transfer (WET) Issues with External Hard Drive - "Can't read from the source file or disk"

I work for Office Depot, in the tech department. Basically, one of our associates was supposed to do a data backup, and re-install Windows 7, then transfer the files back. He used Windows Easy Transfer and compacted everything into a 163 GB file.
Now comes the hard part. When we try to put it back on his computer ((drag-and-drop to the desktop) which has been wiped back to factory settings using the recovery partition), it stops at 79.5 GB remaining (you know how it doesn't give you a % of completion,
it just shows how many GB are remaining) and then says "Can't read from the source file or disk" and gives you an option to try again, or cancel. It gets hung up on the same point each time.
Normally, this wouldn't be a huge issue, but the contents on the drive are his wife's architect blueprints and interior design stuff, along with wedding photos, etc, which are the only copies they have. On top of those, they have court documents and other
important files that we are unable to access now.
I wasn't involved with this transfer, so I'm trying to clean up the mess as best I can. I remembered that the customer's wife was Russian, and had some files typed with a Russian keyboard, so on and so forth. I wonder if that's the issue? If not, I really
have no idea how to manually extract things from a ".mig" file, or how to diagnose what area is potentially corrupted.
In light of this situation, we tried using "Recuva" to recover the files post-wipe, but everything was corrupted or unable to be opened, and it also extracted and recovered all of the "useless" photos, such as the skype logos, up and
down arrows for browsers, etc (it was 160,000+ photos).
Trying to avoid a potential lawsuit, unhappy customer, and costing the company lots of money to see if professionals can get into this external hard drive.
Other relevant information:
We used a Toshiba 500 GB (465 GB) external hard drive.
Customer's computer is an HP Pavilion P6000 Series (Model No. p6520y) running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1.
Any other information that is needed can be provided, thanks in advance, and hopefully we can find a solution to this issue quickly!

Unplug from new, head back to new, plug it back in? That doesn't make much sense! Haha.
I knew what you meant though, somewhat. When I search through the drives after clicking yes (Has windows easy transfer
already saved your files blah blah blah) I click on the transfer file and it says "Windows Easy Transfer could not open the file".
Rather than drag-and-drop the file to the desktop, I now tried to double-click on the file itself while it was plugged
into the computer. It opened, and it started transferring until it was about 70% completed, and then an error popped up saying "WET can't open the easy transfer file, make sure your USB device is plugged in or check your internet connection".
I checked, and the USB hard drive's light wasn't on. Now, I unplug it and plug it back in, and the light comes back on,
so I click Retry, and it resets the bar back to nothing and says "Transfer time: 1 minute".
Rather than continue trying, I clicked "Cancel" instead of Retry, and it says "Your transfer did not complete successfully."
It says to click "view report" for more information, but there's no "view report button".
At the moment, I am scanning the External Drive for bad sectors using the check disk tool in properties. It's frozen
at "0 USN bytes processed".

Importing to LR and Moving Source Files?

Is it "bad" to import to LR and then move the source files? AKA I want to import to LR from files stored locally on my machine and then move that local folder at a later time to an external drive. Will this cause problems and or is there something specific to do so it won't (cause problems?)

Why don't you just import to that external drive and eliminate a step? Seems to me that eliminating the step of moving the photos at a later time makes your work simpler.

UPDATE : Toshiba Recovery Wizard 'cannot read from source file or disk' error (satellite L500)

UPDATE 2: Phoned Toshiba tech support again, guided by techie to begin the recovery again. Just before phoning I was able to go into recovery options and view the drive setup and all the files that couldn't be read are on the CD so I've no idea why the error kept occuring, and neither did the techie. Fingers crossed it works this time but I'm not overly hopefully given that we've just done exactly the same as I did before. UPDATE 1: I got into the BIOS and reset everything back to defaults and yay, my toshiba recovery wizard now starts! :-D On the down side, when trying to do a factory default software / out of the box recovery I continually get error messages with regards to copying the files, for example

I have a two and half year old satellite L500 with an Intel i-3 and 4 gigs of RAM, on which I was running Windows 7.
Admittedly it’s had rather a hard life (I ran some very demanding CAD / graphics software on it) but it had always performed well until just recently, when after suffering several BSOD (which had never happened before), the hard drive failed.
I partitioned and formatted a brand new hard drive (which is perfectly fine and functions normally when hooked up to another laptop with a SATA to USB cable) and obtained system recovery discs from Toshiba. Unfortunately, when I try and run the first disc, windows starts to load files but then generates an error screen with the message Error F3-F100-0003 and a request to turn the computer off.
When I use the windows Memory Diagnostic to get into the Windows Boot Manager Screen I get the following;
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware / software change might be the case.
To fix the problem
Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer
Choose your language settings and click ‘next’
Click ‘repair your computer’
File: \boot\memtest.exe
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.
I can also use F8 on startup to get into the advanced boot options but selecting any of them simply results in the F3-F100-0003 error message. I’ve run a memory test using the UBCD, which tells me the memory is fine, and tried another hard drive (which also works perfectly well in another laptop) but no joy. On phoning Toshiba support the techie said my hard drive had failed, but as I say, both hard drives are perfectly fine / usable when hooked up to another laptop. I’m now completely stuck as to what the problem is and how I might resolve it – any advice / suggestions would be most gratefully received! Thank you in advance :-)

the second disc gives me the the "cannot read from source file or disk PREINST8.SWM"
My best guess is that the disc is not readable. Try copying it to another. Sometimes that works.
Otherwise, order new discs from Toshiba.

How can I change the source file so it is direct from external hard drive?

I am trying to make a movie on imovie of a snowboarding trip that I went on, there is around 80 to 100 gig of mp4 movies that will not fit on my computer that I have stored on my external harddrive. I had the movie half finished then found I could do no more as I had no space left in my mac. I had to delete everything and start again but I'm not doing this until I can find a way of changing the source file so I can take them direct from my external hard drive as to not use up all my computers available space. I have moved imovie to my external hard drive but it still tries to read from a movie file on my mac, how can I change that so it will read from a source file on my external hard drive, is it possible?? Can someone help me??

I have a WD 1TIG hard drive and are using usb connection, is it possible to use fire wire with these? I have had trouble with a lot of the videos I Imported, once they downloaded the file in the viewer window showed up blank and when I mouse over them it places a picture of another file in the window and wont drag and drop into the movie window, like their corrupted or something? Had to delete just about all of them and start again. Also is it possible to select a bunch of videos in the viewer window as to change the dates to the correct dates? All I have been able to do is "select all" which is no help.

PDF outputs continually crash after editing an html source file

I have English and multiple localized versions of a RoboHelp webhelp project. I have created several PDF outputs for the localized versions. I can generate the PDFs fine when I don't touch any of the html source files.
However, I had to make a change to one of the html source files to remove a <dl> from the source file. After making the change to the source file in an outside text editor (Notepad ++), I went back to RoboHelp to generate the PDF, and the PDF output crashed.
The reason I was using an outside text editor is that when I tried to edit the <dl> HTML tags in RH, its HTML editor deleted all text within the tags being edited. There was no undo at this point. In anotehr attempt to use the RH Design editor, RH didn’t delete the <dd> or <dt> tags when those tag styles were changed to <h4> and <p>, respectively. RH inserted the new html wrapper inside the existing ones, instead of replacing it.
Also, during the PDF generation process, a Visual Basic error message will appear dozens of times stating that the application was interrupted. I must press OK to continue for each error message.
What gives with the PDF generation failing like this?

I hate to say it but it sounds like something you are doing in the external editor is not liked by RoboHelp.
It could just be the way that text editor codes the file. I use EditPad Pro and that has various options for text encoding. My guess is your editor is not set to what RoboHelp expects.
Aftr that what I would do here is create a new one topic project and recreate the problem, with the minimum of text. It may help you spot the code RoboHelp does not like.

How can multiple users work on one source file?

I'm currently working on a project that I would like to hand-off to another person to finish. I've tried sending the source file located in at: Home>Movie>iMovie Projects but apparently that doesn't work as the second user is unable to work on the project.
Is this achievable? If so, how?

For iMovie 09, you:
You have to plug in an external drive, and within iMovie, drag the project file to the external drive. It will ask you if you want to "copy project" or "copy project and events".
If you want to move the project and not just make a copy, then hold down the Command key while you drag the project file to the external drive.
iMovie 08 does not have the capability of having project files on the external drive, but you can try to manually copy it to the external drive with the finder, and then move the associated events +from within iMovie+ (critical for the other machine to find the files) and when copying the project file to the other computer, it would be critical to find the iMovie project folder in the Movies folder and put it in exactly the same place on the other machine. Otherwise iMovie won't find it.
The way you want to use it, iLife09 might be worth the upgrade, especially if my suggestions don't work.

How do I relink my video files when the source files are located in an AVCHD folder structure?

I am using FCP X 10.1.1 and I was completely done with editing a simple multicam video for a choir track and when I was exporting it it failed. I re-opened FCPX and found that there are several missing files, when I had just been working with them just a second ago! I know about relinking video files, but when I try to locate the source files (knowing where they are), the browser will not let me select ACHD file contents to get at the video files. Also, I cannot open the Library file for my project either.

If it comes down to it, use clip wrap to carve your .mov files out of the SD. I am confused tho - if you were originally able to import all you needed and still have the original media ? Why can't you do it again to add other clips? To "get in" to your Library, control click on it>show paskage... but do NOT MOVE anything only copy.
Perhaps soeone else can shed light on this?

Well you can do exactly the same with a folder of photos, just put in the Users/Shared folder.
Iphoto is a mite more complex than this. It's a database and so there's a bit more involved.
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

Can I change original source files in the project?

I have a project which has become very disorganized over the last year of editing due to PPs poor ability to effectively share sequences/projects across multiple computers. My assistant editor used a different computer and so the links in the sequences point to multiple "source" files in the project (some in imported folders). However, there is ultimately only one original video clip. The problem is that Premiere Pro won't allow me to delete the nested versions of the source files without also REMOVING the clips in each of the sequences that uses them. For example, the project folder looks like this:
- Original File Folder
-- videoClip-001.mov
- Imported File Folder (imported on one of the many exchanges between editor and assistant editor)

If I delete the Imported File Folder, which only has a mirrored reference to the same video file as in the Original File Folder, then the clip in Sequence Version 1 dissapears. What I expect, rather, is to see a "missing media" message in the sequence so I can reconnect it to the version in the Original File Folder. But I can't. BIG HOLE in Premiere Pro CC.
Why do I want to do this? In a large project with hundreds of video clips, keeping order is very important. With the sequences using multiple "versions" of the same video clip, that order goes down the tubes and it becomes impossible to work.

I don't know of any way to clean up this project, but in the future, don't import the project, just import the sequence. That will not create duplicates.

Just blew away my source files.
