Just bought a iMac - good decision???

I just ordered a new iMac 24" online and the order is being processed. I dont know that much about macs as I have used PC's all my life. Have I made a good decision? While I can still cancel the order I need someone to encourage me that I have made a good call and spent the money wisely!! There are mixed reviews out there.
The spec I ordered is:

I will tell you what I tell everyone.
My iMac G5 with the super PPC Processor, is a sweet and relatively problem free machine, but so are my PC's and they are all about the same vintage. I have used PC's since the first 100 MHZ chip and that huge 2.1 Gig HD. In all around 13+/- years, I have never had a PC fail, they just got old... to be honest about this, the Mac and PC are about equal, both with strengths and weaknesses. For the artists in all of us, Mac hands down, for the business side of us, there is nothing like a PC. <imho> IE7 is by far the best browser out there and I do use them all. Software compatibility is still a minor issue but you will learn to get around this some way.
From my perspective of being a life long PC user, I compare the Mac to a mistress/lover, quite refreshing and exciting, a bit different then the usual same old same old, it makes your heart beat race and your pulse quicken. But in the end, I still need the PC... to make my work complete.
Could I recommend a Mac to anyone, no. Certain people have asked me if I thought they should buy a Mac and I just discourage them. They just don't need a Mac for their purposes.
Do I think you made the right decision, only time and your trouble free Mac will tell, good luck, Rick

Don't get caught up in the "I have to have the newest latest thing" trap. There is always something new coming out around the corner. If you keep trying to time your purchases you'll end up either frustrated because Apple does not conform to your schedule, or waiting too long to make a purchase when you really need a new computer.
Buy what you need when you need it. A computer is obsolete when it no longer meets your expectations of what it should do.

Problems setting up my TC. Have just bought new iMac(OS 10.6.8) and TC. I tried to set it up. iMac cannot find it. I have tried direct connection with an ethernet cable to Mac or direct to my wireless router but nothing. Just a flashing orange light. Help for a simpleton please. Have tried reseting TC, but to no avail.
Just updated from 10.6.7 ---> 10.6.8 and had the same issue. Despite having done a clean install from 10.6 and got everything back off my TC, now Time Machine can't find it!
Green light is on, ethernet cable conected, network CP says its conected but nothing. Airport Utility can't find it. Hit reset button, Orange flashing light but still no show in Airport Utility.
But I know its there, as rebooting from 10.6 SL disk shows the backups are still ok?
Hmm, ideas anyone?

It is best to stop making all new apple IDs, as software is permanently tied to them, and you can't converge them. Make differnt ones if you plan to get divorced though....

HI, I just bought an Imac G5 with 10.4.11 OS in it but I can't do much with it. I can't even wach Netflix on it because it needs a newer version of browser but I can't download newer version because My Mac's OS is to old, at least 10.6 needed. Can anybody can help Me? Thank you
No, sorry. It was only ever available on Disc. You can search places like eBay or Amazon for a Retail Copy. Do not get the Grey Set as they are machine specific. I don't think 10.5 will let you do much more than 10.4 as you said you needed at least 10.6 which is not possible due to the age of your Mac.

I just bought an iMac. Since there is no DVD with the OS in the box, what am I supposed to do if I have a problem?
Do I have to pay to get a copy of Mountain Lion? I know it's not that pricey but still when you pay such a price shouldn't it be included? Considering the fact that people who bought a computer a few months ago without Mountain Lion can download it for free, I think I should have the right to get a free copy too, no?If you have a problem and need to reinstall, you don't have to pay.

All of them had a built in Superdrive. It could be dirt (easy fix) or a malfunctioning mechanism (happened on mine) - in that case, it would have to be replaced and you may be better off getting an external drive (less expensive).
And, you said it has 10.8.5 installed? Did the seller give you the original install DVDs? You will need those sooner or later. -

You should be able to use the OpenVPN Connect app running on your iPad to connect your iPad to the VPN directly. It is an official OpenVPN client for iOS devices.
In what way is it "not compatible"? Have you tried it? Tunnelblick is an OpenVPN client, so your school's VPN is using the OpenVPN protocol. That means any OpenVPN client should be able to access it. (It is possible, but unlikely, that your school uses encryption that is not available on the iPad, but that would be very unusual.)
Otherwise, a remote control app on your iPad would let you control your Mac at home. "Back to My Mac", for example, would allow you to control your Mac remotely. The tricky part of this is that usually a VPN is set up to send all Internet traffic via the VPN server, and I'm not sure how that would work with "Back to My Mac". -
I just bought an iMac now running OSX 10.8.4. I have a G5 running OXS 10.5.8 - External HD connected to the G5 been using Time Machine to back up. Need to get my files, photos etc. but not applications etc. onto the iMac. How do I do it?

Not those whole folders, but their contents, maybe.
If the user account now on the Mac has read rights to the user account(s) on the backups, yes. If not, you may have to do some finagling.
Try the Browse Other Backup Disks option, per Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #17. If you find an account that can open those folders, restore what you want to an alternate location (#16 in the FAQ).
If not try creating one or more accounts temporarily. -
I have bought a photoshop elements and have installed it on my MacBookPro. I have just bought an iMac and what to install on this computer as well. The iMac does not have a disc drive. I have copied the file onto a remote hard drive and tried to install but it thinks I have a pirate copy. What can I do?

Good morning.
Apple no longer includes Flash with the new Macs. So, if you run into things that require Flash you must, if you want to view them, go to the Adobe site and download the Flashplayer as Paul_31 suggested.

i just bought an imac and want to transfer all my music from an iphone to imac - how is this done please
1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.

In that case it sounds like your DVDs have a physical problem or your DVD drive has an issue reading the DVD,
I would suggest you try making DMG inages of your DVDs, save them to your Mac and try installing from the disk images instead... (Disk Utility reads the DVDs in a slightly different way that can help get around certain physical issues)
