Just bought a new i phone

Hi i'm from Malta, and just bought a brand new i phone from the internet since in malta it's praticly a 700 euro (ripoff), my question is can i go to a provider and get it unloked? or should i just trow it in the trash can, because there is no AT&T in malta.
I stil cant understand why if i am paying a full price for a product brand new, it got to be locked to a single provider.

Full price does not mean unlocked. It just means that you're not committed to a contract.
If you bought a US iPhone, you wasted $700 and should try to return the phone for a refund. You'll need to buy a phone from Vodafone if you want to use it in Malta.

If you have an old ID in Settings>iCloud as a result of updating to iOS 7, to change it you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change (you should need to verify the old account). Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

By calling iPod tech support while you are under warranty. You also have 14 days to return it w/no questions asked for a replacement or your $$$ back.

I suggest copying your entire iTunes library to your new computer, also you might want to copy the photos you want to save. Then sync your device to the new iTunes and copy over your music, documents and photos that you want.
If you are no longer going to use the old computer you should open up iTunes on the old computer and use the menu to deauthorize it. Be sure to use the same iTunes menu on your new computer to Authorize the new one.

Wipe iPhone/iPad/iPod touch clean
There are a few steps to do:
Switch off iMessage in Settings > Messages
Switch off FaceTime in Settings > FaceTime (iPod touch 4th Generation or later, iPhone 4 or later and iPad 2 or later)
Delete iCloud in Settings > iCloud > Delete Account
Finally Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.

Now you can sell/give.
Now, you should get her a new Apple ID to sign in the options above.

So just to be clear, when you say "just bought" how long ago was that? Is it on this new iPhone that you had pictures, texts, etc that you want? Were you backing up to iCloud or onto iTunes?
This may not help for everything but if you go to iCloud.com and log in, are you able to find your pictures there?

Are you saying your iTunes doesn not have your songs? If not, where would they be? If on an older iphone, then they should have gotten there via itunes and itunes has them.

There are apps you can dowload that will let you sync your contacts across platforms or backup and restore contacts without iTunes. An app that will sync your contacts is Contacts Sync. Search the app store and find an app that will meet your needs.

Are you making sure you are in park before attempting the sync? The car won't allow you to do it in motion, whether or not you're the passenger.

I suspect unless he had some items in iCloud backup then they are gone. Connecting an iPhone to a different library from that to which it was previously connected will result in the device asking if you want to erase it.

Owner status on POST PAID is not the same as PRE PAID.
on prepaid you can get any device you like.
But you pay upfront.
People on post paid get the advantage of reduced priced devices on contracts. Prepaid is no contracts.
Any carrier will function the same way. Go online and check out Verizon pre paid policy and then look at the other carriers.
Maybe prepaid from Walmart or Boost Mobile, or Cricket etc. would be best for you. Pay for all you can eat calling, texting and data for one low price. Say $45-$55 and buy the phones they offer.

If a phone is sold from one friend to another and wants to use it on a different carrier the friend can contact the carrier it was sold by to request it unlocked. I know AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint will give you the steps to unlock it as long as the original contract it was bought under has been completed. eBay/Craigslist is really not the best place to try to get "unlocked phones" from, if it turns out the phone isn't unlocked then I'm really sorry you got stuck with that one and as stevejobsfan said above I would report them immediately and see if you can recover your money. I sell phones for a living and this happens a lot

You have to start by erasing your phone. If you have any newer data on your phone that is not contained in the backup you'll need to save that first. Then go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup and follow the prompts, choosing the backup of your old phone to restore from.
Be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger while it is restoring the backup.
