Just bought a Powerbook 1.67GHZ hi Rez on Craigslist.....

and the battery will not charge, It says it's not charging. I've kept it plugged in to recharge the internal battery and it does. B/C when I shut it down then power it back up it doesn't lose the settings. I paid 450.00 for it originally the guy wanted 550.00 for it but I told him I could get it cheaper on ebay ( I really cannot their more almost 700.00). I zapped the pram, reset the nvram... any thoughts?
Thanks
jim

...the person who had the powerbook b4 me must not have used it as a laptop and must of kept it plugged in most of the time, would that make the battery bad over a 4 year timespan?
Yes, that would kill it. Batteries need to be used, lightly but regularly, to stay healthy. Putting a dead battery in the freezer won't revive it.
Cloning your G5's drive onto the new drive in the Powerbook was a mistake. The G5's operating system doesn't contain everything that's needed to run the Powerbook's very different hardware. So even if the Powerbook starts up and runs, you will be missing some of the features and capabilities it should have, and you may encounter unexpected behavior. You need to perform an OS installation on it using a retail, not model-specific, set of OS installer discs.
Using standard punctuation and capitalization in your posts here would make them a lot easier for other people to read — and since you're asking for other people's help, making it easier for them would be to your advantage.

  • Just bought a Powerbook G4

Is there an address where I can email a question for support? The Apple Store told me their support was great but I haven't been able to locate a support desk on this site.
Here is the question I have. When I bought the powerbook last Tuesday the sales person assured me it had ilife 06 on it. It doesn't and it wasn't in my bag of software when I left. Does it come with it or do I have to buy it?

Welcome to the Apple discussion forums.
According the Apple web site, under hardware, PowerPC G4 PB, it says iLife 05 comes with the currently shipping product. So, sounds like you got what Apple is shipping, and the sales person was wrong. However, if you want iLife 06, and the sales person told you it was included, you might go back to the store and insist on it....maybe you'll get it. Otherwise it's $79, or less with an educational discount.

  • I just bought a powerbook - week ago - acting totally buggy-have i been hacked due to poor security of lion?

i was hacked with my old mac book i just bought a macbook pro - week ago it is acting totally buggy - tried 3 browsers safari opera and now firefox - won't download embeded video - just stops etc - what security 'fixes' are available for lion to prevent hacking battery component and malware installed

You have not been hacked.  It's impossible to speculate about what exactly the problem is, since all you've said is that it won't download embedded video.  You may just need to update Flash, or you may be using a bad site, or you may have a bad internet connection...  impossible to say with such sparse data.  But it's not hacking and it's unlikely to be malware.  Regarding the malware issue, see my Mac Malware Guide.

  • I just bought an iphone 4s from someone off of Craigslist and I am using my consumer cellular sim but it's saying I need to contact the carrier to unlock the phone?

I bought an iphone 4s from someone off of craigslist. I went to update to ios7 (it was running ios5 for some reason) and when it finally updated it said the phone needed to be unlocked by the carrier. I don't know who the original carrier of the phone is or what to do about it.
I'm using Consumer Cellular and it my sim was working perfectly in my Iphone 4 for 7 months.
Did I totally get screwed out of $90?
I think the phone was jailbroken but I'm not sure.

Only the carrier to whom the device is locked can authorize it's unlocking.
Consumer Cellular is not a supported carrier.
Jailbreaking voids all rights to support from Apple and these user to user support forums.

  • Just bought 1Ghz powerbook but...

Got it from shop in Akihabara (sofmap for those that know), it was super cheap compared to the rest because of no box, data on the HDD (even though it's guaranteed) or OSX install cds. (¥50,000)
Wow i thought, it's ok about the OSX because i have an iMac at home with Tiger install disks (I know it's not 100% legit, but i figured the powerbook came with a copy of Tiger, so using my iMac's install cd is just a shortcut as I am not really cheating Apple as this computer should have Tiger).
But upon loading said installation cd, it says I don't have the drivers and does a kernal panic thingy!
Is there any way i can solve this?
I want to be legit, so please don't bash me.

You have a few options here:
    1) Purchase Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5) Apple's latest operating system. Your PowerBook does meet the minimum system requirements.
    2) Contact Apple tech support and get them to send you, for a small fee, the original system disks that came with the PowerBook. The 1GHz PowerBook shipped originally with Mac OS X 10.2.7 and much earlier versions of applications such as iMovie, iDVD, etc. Note that this machine shipped in 2003, so it is possible that the disks do not still exist in inventory.
    3) If you want Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4) you CAN still get it, but the only place to get it is from Apple's phone support agents. Call (in the US, at least) (800) 275-2273. Note that it does not come on CDs, but DVD. I do not know if it is available in Japan, sorry.

  • Just bought a powermac G4

Just bought a powermac g4 from a guy on craigslist that came with OS X 10.2.3 installed.
I would like to install OS X 10.4.9, but don't want to buy it. Can I use the installation DVD that came with the macbook I bought in april? Is this possible or will I have to buy a new copy of OS X?
    Power Mac G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Aside from the fact that installing OS X on more than one CPU at a time is a violation of the license agreement, you cannot install an Intel version of OS X on a PPC Mac.
So, yes, you need to buy a new copy of OS X or wait until Leopard is released in October (you will have to buy it, too) which will have a universal installer.

  • I just bought a wiped Mac PowerBook G4 where can I find a software disk like OSX it's asking for?

I just bought a Mac PowerBook G4 from Cashland (which is a pawn shop) and they totally wiped all the software off the computer which is company policy, but now I can't use it because of that. The computer is asking for OSX software which I have no disk, where can I obtain the disk to put the correct software on this computer? It's also asking for a password and I have no idea what it was because Cashland didnt obtain it when they bought it from the previous owner...

For starters, try asking this question in the correct forum and NOT and iPhone forum - did you not look before you posted?
Probably best to take it back to Cashland for a refund as there will be nothing you can do and you may never be able to use it.

  • Anyone as frustrated as i am...just bought a brand new 13" powerbook to find that I can't load my adobe creative suite 2.3 software! i need solutions that do not involve spending more $$$$ one the newest version.

Is anyone  as frustrated as i am...just bought a brand new 13" powerbook to find  that I can't load my adobe creative suite 2.3 software using the lion os! I need solutions  that do not involve spending more $$$$ one the newest CS version. After googling problem, I find I am not the only one. Apple told me Creative Suite 3 would work, but others said no.  Version 5.5 seems to be most reliable. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

No, you're not the only person who failed to do any homework before making your purchase. You will have to upgrade your Adobe software at the very least. Before you post another complaint about what doesn't run see
About incompatible software (OS X v10.6, OS X Lion, OS X Mountain Lion)

  • Install program from my imac to an older powerbook g4 I just bought?

Hello, new here, learning about my mac. I have an imac I bought about 2 years ago. Love it. I just bought a used powerbook g4. Is there any way to install the garageband that came with my new imac on to this older powerbook? thanks!

Hello Jzap, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Unfortunately no, It's likely a Gray Intel Machine specific Disk.
And GarageBand for the PB will be hard to find, but look on eBay & such, iirc GB should be on iLife05 Discs or later.

  • Dell E228WFP 22" display - Problems connecting to Powerbook 1.67ghz

    Hi All
I've seen this same issue mentioned in another post elsewhere in the Apple Discussions, but it seems to remain unresolved in that instance...
I've just bought a 22" Dell E228WFP display to connect to my 1.67ghz Powerbook 17", running OS 10.4.9, as a second display. It's connected with the supplied DVI cable, but continually blanks out while using it. The screen goes black for a second, then reappears.
This only happens when something moves on either screen - particularly when operating the dock or - most severely - when dragging windows around. It's perfectly fine when sitting unattended, or when I've tested running a game on the Dell screen. The problem only seems to occur when interacting with some interface element...
This seems to suggest that it's related to the video output from the Powerbook rather than a problem with the display. I don't have another Mac to hook it up to to test it under other conditions unfortunately.
The display does not exhibit the same problem under self-test mode, nor does switching resolution, colours, mirroring or arrangements make any difference. The pwer light stays on consistently throughout.
Anyone else ever experienced anything similar?
    Cheers
    Paul
    Powerbook 1.67ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I've just noticed in another topic that the DVI output from Macs is 'exclusive' to Apple Cinema Displays, and can only be used with third-party display via a DVI - VGA adapter. This would make sense in relation to the other post on this subject elsewhere, where the poster talks about resolving the problem with the VGA adapter, although he thought this indicated the DVI cable was dodgy... I've not seen this issue coming up in any other discussion/post here or elsewhere where various third-party (and Dell) displays are discussed.
In addition to the circumstances listed above in my earlier post, I've now noticed that the problem is at its worse when viewing a web page with Flash content - constantly updating/changing animations and effects...
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks
    Paul

  • N card for Powerbook 1.67GHz G4

Does anyone know of any cards for the 15" G4 Powerbook 1.67GHz that will for sure work with the new Airport Extreme I just purchased. The speed is great on my iMac C2D and would like to get the Powerbook going at the same "N" speed.
    Thanks

  • Powerbook 1.67GHz PowerPC G4 (17") - Memory upgrade

My Powerbook came with 512MB originally from Apple. I just bought another 512MB card from the Apple store, and after installing it, when I display "About this Mac" to check whether the installation was succesfull I see the following information:
    SODIMM0/J20STANDARD.512MB DDR SDRAM PC1700U-25330 OK
    SODIMM1/J23REVERSED...512MB DDR SDRAM PC1700U-25330 OK
Is it OK that the original card is "STANDARD", but the added one is "REVERSED"? What does it mean?
Everything seems to be working fine, but the word "REVERSED" concerns me.
    Thanks for your cooperation

I am running Yosemite and have just bought Pro Tools Express with the intent to Upgrade to Pro Tools 11. Pro Tools Express is not compatible with Yosemite and will not install. How can I get this done?

I have had this problem for close to a year. I have an Extreme base station, two Airport Express's and multiple G4 Mac's with up to date software. I have spent a huge amount of time trouble shooting, resetting, reapplying software and finally calling Applecare without any help. It would be great to get this problem solved.
