Just bought my itv - what's the rub with Canada?

I just bought my itv and love the idea... i'm sure I'm not alone as a Mac junkie in Canada - i've just placed an order for the time machine... Why can't we rent movies. Is this a priority for you? or is it a long time down the road? I'm really disappointed... I would have preferred to look into the product more closely, buy I bought into the flashy advertising on my apple home page.
I clearly would like to be able to participate. It seems strange. I suspect there may be a problem with Canadian regulators... any information would be helpful.

Welcome to the club. I've had the ATV since day one in Canada and all I can say is things have improved with the addition of TV shows finally. I think we'll get movies and rentals this year at some point. Nothing to do with regulators at all (you'll see lots of uninformed blaming the CRTC - which is completely false). The issue is rights and who gets the dough. Once they iron those out - we get content - just like TV when it finally arrived. Add to this our small market size and you can understand why we are not always at the top of the list....
We love ours and I plan to get a second unit - so hang in there!

I have successfully installed PSE 12 on my Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 systems several times without any problem. (I keep doing the re-installs to test problems for other users).
You were running as an administrator weren't you?
I have also known problems with some Internet Security suites and the recommendation is to disable them while installing PSE.
Since you are not mentioning any error message, you could have a duff DVD which is why I suggested trying the download. The download and the DVD are the same program.
The main problems seems to be signing in and getting the serial number to work but you aren't reporting those faults.

I've just bought an iPhone 5S in the UK, seems like a big mistake, but luckily by law we can return goods, which is exactly what is going to happen if I cant get this to work. This is my business phone, not having it functional can cost me money.

I'm happy you figured it out and just try to keep in mind that not everyone you talk to at support will give the same advice or have the same knowledge. Just like those who contribute to these forums. Sometimes Google is your best friend.
I agree that Apple could probably make it easier, but as of yet prefer security over freedom. (sound famaliar?)

Here is the information I have. The external hard drive is a 120GB Acomdata. It has both USB and Firewire. When I go to plug in to the mac mini through USB, it is not being recognized. When I switch to Firewire on the old computer I can see it, however when I go to USB it is not being recognized (even on the old computer).
I'm at a loss as to what to do. Any advice would be helpful.

You can use Microsoft Office for Mac, one of the free Office clones such as LibreOffice or Apple's iWork suite of apps. The iWork apps - Keynote (presentation), Pages (word processing & page layout) & Numbers (spreadsheet) are available individually from the Mac App Store. There are also versions for iOS available separately. And, coming this fall, iWork for iCloud.

I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S4, and my wife has an iphone. We found out that imessage wont come through from her. After we went to the AT&T helpdesk they said that she could turn off imessage on her phone and that I would get texts on my S4. But then so would everyone else who has an iphone. That won't work for everyone in my company that has an iphone. So what I am wondering is- since I recently got this phone, should I get a new number? Or should I contact ATT or contact Apple to try and get this number de-activated? I'm thinking I'll never get into the icloud account that this number is attached to, but maybe someone has some advice on that?
I just sincerely want imessage to work on this phone and I'm willing to take the steps to do that.

Either one of the two should work - getting new number from carrier or contacting Apple to revoke phone number from imessage system.

Just bought a Macbook pro 17" 2.16 with 2gb ram and 500gb 5400 HD. IT RUNS VERY SLOW, even with fresh install of X 10.6, what do I do?

So I just bought a great condition Macbook pro 17" with 2gb of ram, and the last owner upgraded the HD to a 500gb toshiba 5400rpm HD....the computer is VERY slow....when loading up anything it take forever, and watching video's freezes it for a few seconds then starts for a 1-3 seconds then freezes again....what can I do? I really like the laptop, but hate the performance...and I don't want to go buy another one....but I have considered a SSD....any idea's before I do that?

Sluggish Finder - Bunch of icons on your desktop? An overcrowded desktop slows down your Mac.
Get rid of needless Finder calculations - Open a window in Finder/View/Show View Options: ensure "Calculate All Sizes" option is unchecked.
Internet related - It's likely that your broadband connection is the bottleneck. You can check your speed on http://www.speedtest.net to see how fast your connection is. If your web browser specifically performs slowly, quit and relaunch it.
If browser remains sluggish, empty its cache.
Safari/Empty Cache
Firefox/Preferences - select the Network tab of the Advanced preferences and click the "Clear Now" button in the "Offline Storage" area.
Application related - Launch "Activity Monitor" - Applications/Utilities - click the CPU heading and see what float to the top. If an application takes up a large chunk of CPU and won't let it go, it could be dragging down your Mac's performance. Quit it by clicking the Quit Process button at the top of the Activity Monitor window.
Too little ram - max out your ram.

It's the button (key) that is labelled Control.

If you open Keyboard Viewer (in the Input menu, the one which displays the flag in the main menu bar), you can see what symbol refers to which key.

Legality aside (I'm not a lawyer and have no opinion on the matter) in order to make a purchase of an iPhone 5 you would need to travel to a country where they are for sale and purchase it there. Be sure to get one that is officially unlocked or you would not be able to use it with your cell carrier. Be sure that your carrier supports use of the iPhone before you buy. Also note that the warranty of the iPhone is only valid in the country of purchase.
Appe does not ship outside of the countries where it sells the phones.

Back in the good old days when software was purchased on disk one could sell it (legally).
Please describe your problem. Give us some details to go from. Are you using iMovie 06, or something newer?
