Just bought Quick Time 7 Pro---nothing is different?
What am I doing wrong? I received the email with my registration code, copied and pasted it into the Registration Code box under the Registration selection, rebooted and nothing has changed. When I search for Quicktime Pro it's not found in my computer, and my QT app in applications just says QuicktimePlayer.app When I get info on Qt, it says version 7.6.6
Anyone know what's up?
Just to add to it.. YOu can go to system preferences under the APple menu and select Quicktime and go to the registration tab. If the resgitration code is already there, your QT Pro is activated. If not you will have to key in the registration key there.
As such QT Pro key is just to unlock all the features of QT which are not enabled in the default version.
Also as per Niel's post, let us know the version of QT. If it's Quicktime X., then there's a different way to get QT 7 installed (which actually takes the Pro key)

Hi, it seems very comlicated getting around in Apple empire. Bought this registration key in the morning (GMT) but just been able to check order, according this i have got a MAC code which I did not buy. I clicked on Windows compatible software. Key is not registering. Any idea what to do? Not much but do not want to through out 30 USD.

Saving edits in Quick Time 7 Pro
I have just purchased Quick Time 7 Pro. I used it to edit a .mov file and saved the result. The edited version runs correctly on Quick Time. On the slideshow program Pro Show Gold, however, the file runs - but without the edits. Any suggestions?
Try " Saving as... " not just Save. You need to create another file to have your edits permanently applied. This is also recommended when you are trying to make your clips smaller and safe disk space. You can cut half of your clip, but if you just select "save" not "save as" the size of your clip will remain the same.

Just bought a used MacBook pro after my previous died. I want to migrate my applications, data, etc from a time machine backup of the old computer to the new. Will this affect, or overwrite the Apps., data, etc existing on the new machine?
No. Only those Apps that are not installed on the new will migrate over.

I just bought a new Macbook Pro 15" with SSD 256 Gb and its almost a brand-new (the 4th time to use the device) a while ago i was trying to connect to my home wireless network it said that the connection is timed out so i clicked the airport sign on the top it said that your airport is not configured then I restarted the system but it didn't restarted it showed the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel for more than 10min so I tried the force shutdown by pressing the power button till it switched off I waited for 5min then pressed the power button to start or boot the system and again the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel, I waited for more than 20min nothing changed, any solution please?
Your help is really appreciated"Thanks a lot i followed the instructions for safe mode (i found out that i was pressing the C button after restarting) i did whats written there but the repair couldn't be performed so in addition i needed to re-formate the HD so i erased the volume and then repaired the disk--> quite disk utilities --> start the installation from the installation DVD.

Thanks but now it won't down load because "my start up disc is full" this new 27 iMac has been nothing but problems since I got it , they "Genius bar" has cleared everything off two times already to get the programs to work so i have to download all my apps again

Quick Time 7 Pro will not load
I installed quick time 7 pro a week ago and my key worked fine. However now quick time just seems to freeze when I click on it. It says "loading" but nothing loads. I uninstalled it but now I need to reinstall using my user name and key. The problem is if I already purchased it where do I go to get it again with-out having to rebuy it. When I went to apple I don't see anything that says "click here if you already have a Key.

Im a new Mac user. I currently just bought a new MacBook Pro. The first computer I got apparently had a problem with the flex, so I had to go change it for a new one. The first one had the latest operating system, the second one the store gave me didn't, yet it's still a brand new computer, so I don't see why I should have to pay for the new operating system, which should already come with my brand new computer. So I am trying to contact apple so they may give me permission to download it from the app store for free, due to this inconvenience and first bad experience. The vendor tells me that sometimes new computers may come with old operating systems because they're from an old batch of new computers. Oh and by the way, I'm from Honduras, and bought it at Jetstereo, in Tegucigalpa (the capital). This store is a licensed distributor.

I just bought a used Macbook Pro. How do I make the changes to make it personal. Example the iTunes comes up as the old user and I have to have his password to make changes on the laptop. Can you make any suggestions?
Also I cant make a right click on the pad. Is that normal?Your first going to have to remove all your personal data off the machine to a external storage drive, do not use TimeMachine when it asks as this will copy the entire drive and is unnecessary at this time (also takes too long).
You need to drag and drop copy your personal data folders (Music, Pictures, Movies etc) to a external storage drive, once done, unmount and disconnect this drive.
Most commonly used backup methods
Next your going to follow the Zero Erase and install method for your OS X version, either 10.6 or 10.7, here
How to reinstall just OS X or erase/install OS X
10.7 requires your AppleID and password to install, so make sure to have that ready.
Once you reboot your into the real setup of OS X, which will require your name etc, so it's now your machine.
Install your programs, iLife package is only free for the owner of the machine.
If you have the 10.6 machine specific disks, then it's on there.
If your using 10.7, then you'll have to purchase it from the App Store.
Last, return your files from the storage drive, consider setting up a TimeMachine or clone on the external drive. -
Quick Time 7 Pro not displaying .mov files
I just purchased Quick Time Pro to make movies that were transferred from my video camera in a .mov format. Prior to purchasing and installing I had an older version of Quick Time and I was able to view the movies with no problem. Now the screen is simply black but the audio is still playing. I downloaded a file to a thumb drive to double check on my lap top with an older version of Quick TIme and was able to view with no problem. What am I doing wrong with the new install?
Thank for you help.The files are in MPEG-4 format. And they do play perfectly in player. However the dimensions are wrong for my Ipod Nano 3rd gen. The edges are cut off. I am under the impression that if I export the file from QT7P i will be able to convert the file type to fit the screen of the Ipod nano.

This is standard on Macs. The ability to see more than one window at a time. Some apps - like iPhoto, Aperture etc - have a Full Screen mode. Check out the View menu.
Drag the lower right hand corner to resize the window.

Ive just bought a used macbook pro (2011 model) with applecare from eBay which runs out in September, but the original disks are missing, I have yet to recieve the macbook (whuch should arrive late this week) but can see from the description it's listed as a late 2011 model and have been told the system runs on snow leopard ..
From what I can see online I will need the original disks to start up the machine when I recieve it ? .. is this true and if so how do I go about getting these disks or can I start up the system online ??
also being a late model should it not be on the Lion operating system ? ..
any help will be appreciated, as Im new to macbooks and apple products , thanks,The first thing to do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You—not the original owner—must do that. How you do it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
It's unsafe, and may be unlawful, to use a computer with software installed by a previous owner.
1a. If you don't own another Mac
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller—not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine is very old and has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for a MacBook Air. You should have received those media from the original owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To start up from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then restart the computer and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should start up in Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
Some models shipped with OS X 10.6 and received a firmware update after 10.7 was released, enabling them to use Internet Recovery. If you have one of those models, you may not be able to reinstall 10.6 even from the original discs, and Internet Recovery may not work either without the original owner's Apple ID. In that case, contact Apple Support, or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to have the OS installed.
1b. If you do own another Mac
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to prepare a USB device, then start up the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can start from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
2. Partition and install OS X
If you see a lock screen when trying to start up from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive—not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. If you're installing a version of OS X acquired from the App Store, you will need the Apple ID and password that you used. When the installation is done, the system will automatically restart into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
Then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the original owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed—you have to repurchase them.
3. Other issues
If the original owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're irrevocably linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a lifetime limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an iCloud account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information. The setup limit doesn't apply to Apple ID accounts used for other services, such as the iTunes and Mac App Stores, or iMessage. You can create as many of those accounts as you like. -
I have just bought a new Mac Pro after my old one died after nearly 10 years. I have most of my music backed up on CDs, but when i load them into iTunes they are only identified as Track 1, 2, etc. Can I transfer from my iPod and how?

I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
